Politics / Political OBIdience #ObiAhmed 2023 by Joshthefirst(m): 9:25am On Aug 04, 2022
To make a short case to fill well meaning Nigerians with some hope.

I was present in Osun state for the gubernatorials. It was calm and quiet, the people chose and they got who they chose, they went for the opposition and won!

Let Osun (and even Anambra) give us some hope that there is a reasonable chance that the people, especially the progressive young people, will go for Peter Obi, obviously the best alternative in the current fold of candidates, and actually have whom they go for.

OBIdience was like a fantastical dream before, but he's kicking up a storm. Have some hope. Pray to your God. This is not a candidacy of tribalism or sectarianism, #ObiAhmed presents balanced young and competent leaders and the breath of fresh air we've been waiting for.

Are you still unconvinced? Did you visit the INEC registration centers? Young people everywhere, powered by youthful zeal and OBIdience.

Over 4 million new voters were in the young category, and over 2 million of those youngsters were students. Have some hope. Get OBIdient. Join the train. We hope to see a miracle, a turnaround.

Religion / Back For An OBIdient Religious Defense by Joshthefirst(m): 9:11am On Aug 04, 2022
Hello guys! I'm back from self imposed exile, primarily to give a religious defense for the Nigerian Christian population to make a deliberate political choice in the upcoming general elections for Peter Obi and His wonderful Vice; Mr Yusuf. And so on.

I believe I've gathered some extra knowledge and maturity and weapons of sound argument. Indulge me.

It feels good to be back. grin

Evangelynn:

Abortion isn't murder and I cannot see it as such especially when it is legal in those countries it isn't categorised as murder because it just doesn't have the ingredients to be categorised or seen as such.Abortion isn't murder, when a child has been born outside the womb then it can be called murder or infanticide depending on what constitutes it as such, lastly your last statement makes no sense any parent that doesn't want a child doesn't give birth to it where abortion is legal hence why the law is there once the child has been born it has rights and in that case the law of the country is allowed to run its course.
Hmmm. So in your opinion aborting a child is acceptable because it's legal in some countries? What if it also became legal for parents to kill their kids up to 5 hours after birth and the rights of those children withdrawn? Would this still be acceptable to you? Since it would be the law of the country taking its course?

I didn't open the link,I have read many for and against arguments on the issue,I can even share another link to disprove otherwise, you claim it starts from conception others can concede it starts at a particular week when it gets to a particular stage.

I don't believe it starts from conception but from a certain stage I am pro-choice and I see abortion as a social and economic issue not a moral/religious one so even if it starts from conception according to you I still support abortions where necessary if the parents don't want it,it doesn't change my view as I don't see it as murder
Hmmm. So you believe even if human life starts at conception parents can still kill their children and it won't be murder. What if the child is outside the womb? Can parents still kill it if they don't want it?

Some even argue that it starts from the 16th week,my stance isn't unpopular and I used the term 'technically' in that sense

Whether you believe life starts at conception is up to you.It doesn't change what is on ground I don't believe life starts at conception and whatever life that is is subject to the woman carrying the pregnancy to decide.
Did you open my link? From that research, your stance is actually incredibly unpopular among scientists, even among very pro-choice biologists.

But I'm only asking why you don't believe it starts at conception to understand your reasoning. Do you think it doesn't start at conception because that would make abortion ending human life and that feels uncomfortable for you?

When does human life begin?

Does human life begin at conception? Is that a developing human in the womb? This is currently a huge political issue in the United States,(that's why I brought it to the politics section) and I want to know what people here think and also have some arguments regarding what is widely regarded as the popular view by biologists:

That human life begins at conception

Argue with the scientists a foetus isn't fully human and cannot technically have any rights that is the argument depending on the school of thought you belong to,some also argue if the foetus has same rights as the person carrying it.
Majority of scientists believe life starts at conception though. So the science supports me and rejects you.

Why do you have the unpopular stance that a foetus isn't fully human? What does it take to be fully human?

Better to abort than to bring irresponsible souls to the world.

Cases of robbery, raping and other social vices done are done by children whose dad rejected their pregnancy.
The issue is this: why don't we end same fatherless children after they are born? Convenience? We can still save ourselves a lot of heartache by ending them after they're out of the womb. And save ourselves some cowardice by looking in their faces as we end them. Abi? Or is ending them in the womb simply easier because you can't see or hear them yet?

The foundational framework of the Christian belief is itself loaded with cascades of Bronze-Age Myths. They are flawed, contradictory and laden with fraud.

So, when thw author writes that Jesus died , was buried and then resurrected, he is definitely not stating a known and verifiable fact, but an age long myth, built on other cascades of myth, passed on in most cases through the sword and swaths of blood.

Now, building and clinging to a worldview constructed on Bronze-age myths, and pontificating thereof, is the grand folly of Most Africans in this 21st century.
The account of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus is very readily historically verifiable, by both secular and biblical sources.

Claiming otherwise is actually ignorant.

One reason the Christian worldview has remained so convincing is primarily the strength of its historical account.

Please what are some of the flaws and contradictions of this Christian belief?

Read about optimistic nihilism and cure your ignorance.
Optimistic nihilism is senseless. Your position has a fundamental problem(many actually). Subscribing to meaninglessness makes every argument and championing of logic over emotions and rationality and the scientific method over blind faith foolish and senseless, as both rationality and blind faith would equally be meaningless. But this is only the beginning of your problems.

If life is meaningless, Is your conclusion that life is meaningless also a meaningless conclusion? Or is it meaningful, with you miraculously exempting your high and mighty conscious existence from the other things out there?

If life is meaningless, how come you know it? Eh?

And more and more and more. Nihilism is an illogical position that collapses upon itself. But maybe this too is meaningless eh? cheesy

Your mindset is a very dangerous one. Your bible tells you to give unto ceasar what is ceasar's. Something about your civic duty. Yet, you are here saying that you only care about God's kingdom to be advanced. How does one enter heaven? Didnt Jesus say that one should love his neighbour?

Wow, I can't believe that I'm preaching to a christian. Me, an atheist. This is how backwards many christians have become.....damn

Think about it bro. Your hope is your god now. Yet your god is taking just as much time as africans are taking to bond and make things happen.

Seems to me your god is taking a long time to make things happen. No difference between waiting for your god and trying to make things happen...atleast from ur house.
God doesn’t work with your timetable. He is God. It is senseless to think he will choose to work based on your whims to please you.

And my definition of “make things happen” is very different from yours. Entirely. God is already making things happen. I used to be nationalistic in thinking, now I just want His Kingdom to be advanced, whether it results in transformation or persecution or both in varying degrees. I don’t expect you to understand my meaning though.

As usual, you fail to understand and then, blame me for your lack of understanding. I gave a simple analogy to explain how in a wider sense, something can be meaningless but we humans can attach meaning and purpose to that thing.

You dismissed the analogy without any sensible objections. This is not fair.

Another analogy- A paradox of meaning/scale- a "heap of sand" is just sand clustered together. Now, at what point does that heap turn to a "sprinkling of sand" if we remove from the heap, grain by grain?

The paradox is to show how meanings of things change at different scales and that the line drawn between them is arbitrary (ergo meaningless)

This is just like how on the grand scale of things, life is meaningless and paradoxical. We are born to die. Every day we live is another day we get closer to death. Every day we live, we also die. Should the sun explode, the earth will be decimated and all our human inventions or logic will be for nothing- just gone.

However, individually, we can choose to make meaning of what has no meaning. Writing on a blank slate.
I don’t fail to understand anything. It is either life actually has meaning, or it doesn’t. Since you believe life doesn’t have meaning, then any attempt at infusing any meaning to it is futile, a futile and meaningless attempt from a meaningless life, yes? Your analogy is also meaningless, eventually forgotten, empty and empty wind, as our reality is? Abi is that not what you believe. See, you cannot eat your cake and have it. You cannot claim life is meaningless and meaningful at the same time. cheesy

whitelotus:
Christianity (religion) is dying in all developed countries. America, UK, Europe, Singapore, Japan etc. Pick any top 10 countries and you will see that they are increasingly secular.

I also repeat that most Jews arent christians and most Jews do not believe in Jesus. That is a fact. Jesus failed his own people. His death was meaningless. He came for the lost sheep of isreal. The sheep are still lost.
I saw your red bird and killed it. cheesy We cannot bring it back to life.

whitelotus:
I will point you to my first paragraph. Address the points and the analogy. Dont get into your soapbox and dramatise your disdain of my beliefs or lack thereof.
Does it really matter then? Is logic and rationality and science not meaningless and purposeless? Does death not laugh in the face of any true happiness? You see, you aren’t being honest with your beliefs. Life should be empty for you, as meaningless as death.

Life is intrinsically meaningless. We are but a speck of dust compared to the total size of the universe. We live only to die. Every day we live is an other day closer to death. An asteroid could land on the earth and blow all of us to smithereens tomorrow.

Life lacks meaning. This does not mean that we cannot give our lives meaning. For example, there is a stone in my field- it is useless but i can choose to make it useful- I can choose to use it as a grinding stone or a weapon.

Think of life as a blank slate or chalkboard. It has no words or drawings on it. No meaning. It is our choice to either write on it or leave it blank.
How do you acknowledge the meaninglessness of a speck of dust such as your life is and then go ahead and say that you, in your meaningless existence, can give your short and meaningless life some meaning? You even go ahead and give a meaningless analogy. This is quite senseless. But more to come...

whitelotus:
=======================================

If you want to know how meaningless life is, just look at your Jesus. He really died for nothing. His torment at the cross did not even yield him followers among the Jews- his own people. Most Jews are not christian. Furthermore, almost 70% of people in the world are not christians. His message did not even move close to half of the world. And the numbers of christians are dwindling. Not only that, christianity has been so perverted today, that many even ask if Christians are truly like Christ.

=======================================
Jesus didn’t die for nothing, his torment has won him followers in the billions since his cross, there are currently about 500,000 messianic Jews with more to come, and you lie, Christianity is actually increasing in the world today. But this is a red herring, a bird cheesy
Could it be that faced with the unfortunate meaningless of your life and the fact that you can actually and logically do nothing to add any meaning to it, you try to distract the question and attack my religion? Is this what atheism and humanism is? A purported meaningless existence, the best its representatives can offer being to attack questioners who ask them the honest question of their foolish position? I wonder.

whitelotus:
As an atheist and a humanist, I try to enjoy my life and make this world a better place because it is the only life I will have with my consciousness. I alone give my life the meaning or purpose that I want it to have.

And this is the sum total of the foolishness of atheism folks:

A self proclaimed meaningless entity goes on to foolishly proclaim that he, in his meaningless existence, can infuse his meaningless life with meaning. From where please

And here is more, If this meaningless entity screams and believes that all life is meaningless, then what is the point of holding on to “logic” and “rationality” and “science”? And seemingly upholding them against religion? What is the point of seeking to explain anything of your meaningless views? Or struggling to share this meaningless and unfortunate way of life to others? If one truly believes we are all in the same meaningless blue mass?
