GanagiBitrus:
It's understandable for the hospital example you cited, Infact for public services.

But in this case it's a personal commodity. Like for the $1000 gold, if you offered me ₦2m or higher instead of ₦1.6m, I wouldn't refuse. So the issue may actually be the Naira conversion rate the buyer used which is unacceptable for the seller.
I think there's a clear difference between rejecting a payment because of price disagreement (your right) and rejecting the naira (a crime). I doubt the EFCC would be that clueless to mix up the two. But let's see how the case pans out.

It's good they're prosecuting the guy though. Imaging going to Alaba Market to buy home appliances and on the way you're wondering if some of the traders will insist on US dollars, British pounds or Saudi riyals! The naira is LEGAL TENDER for ALL transactions in Nigeria, whether public or private or personal.

Na Britain cause all this Rubbish , because had they left those hopeless Zionist where they were, middle East will not have been a boiling point.

The Hypocrisy of fighting for Ukraine to retain her land and fighting to take Palestine land.

Tueh I spit on Europe.

The US is just looking for its own honk Kong,
The fear of California wild fire, hurricane and typhoons are the beginning of wisdom.

But make Dem no worry, Jerusalem has already been cursed , so all this gragra go still end in disappointment.
Britain did not bring the "Zionists". Them "Zionists" weren't going to stay "where they were". In fact, many of them were already in the area. So I think Britain did the right thing by offering to partition the land. But the Arabs said no. Things got physical and the better fighter won. And here we are.

It's what humans have been doing for thousands of years - fighting wars over things and the winner taking it. Hopefully, one day, we'll become civilised and learn to resolve issues around a table.

Magnus Eze, a media aide to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, said in a statement on Sunday that Ojukwu made the request when she met with the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria and Permanent Representative to ECOWAS, Michael Freeman, in Abuja.

This must be investigated and retracted if it's true that such request was made on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria to demand that another nation confer her citizenship on Nigerians shocked
Me sef don't understand. Apart from this being a Jewish nation that doesn't dash citizenship to non-Jews, how does this call square with FG's anti-japa campaign?

If the rejection of the naira is what is sending this guy to jail then why wont efcc go and close Herbert Wigwe Private University willing to accept dollars as tuition fee inside nigeria o
If they charge in dollars, the EFCC may do nothing. But if you take the naira equivalent there and they REFUSE, you should write to EFCC and they'd act.

Funny case. smiley

Let's assume I have a Gold Bar for sale valued at $1000.
A buyer offers me 1600x1000=₦1.6m.
I reject it, probably because I was expecting a higher naira exchange rate because of fluctuating naira value.

I don't think there is any crime there.

The buyer could as well had gone and exchanged the ₦1.6m for $1000.
The purpose of that law is to protect the ability of people to do transactions. Business thrives on certainty - knowing that your money will be accepted. Imaging going into a hospital in an emergency and they refuse to accept your naira because they want dollars. Someone could die. Note that selling your wares in dollars is not the offence here. REFUSING to accept NAIRA is the offence.

Legal tender (of any country) = something you CAN'T REFUSE for payment (in that country).

Politics › Re: 2027: Peter Obi Or Akinwumi Adesina? by JuanDeDios: 3:49pm On Feb 11, 2025
Penguin2:
As the race for 2027 gears up, alignments and realignments have continued to dominate our political space with leaders of opposition trying to unite and forge a common front to face APC in 2027.

Now, with Peter Obi’s showing in the last election coupled with the fact it’s the turn of the south, by Nigerian political convention, the pendulum seems to be swinging towards Peter Obi to be the candidate of the united opposition. Add the fact that Obasanjo seems to be sold out to the Obi project and Obasanjo is a big factor in the ongoing discussions for opposition leaders.

But the recent interview of the outgoing President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwunmi Adesina, talking about being available for any role in the future (with 2027 presidency clearly in sight) there seems to be a new bride who might be entering the race.

Ordinarily I would have taken Adesina’s interview as a no issue but knowing that he’s another guy President Obasanjo admires, I won’t be surprised if he becomes a surprise joker in the race.

But now I want to ask, who would you rather faces Tinubu as candidate of the united opposition, Peter Obi or Akinwunmi Adesina?
It's Peter Obi for me. No, I'm not an Obidient. I also know he's just an average candidate. But he's better than Adesina, Tinubu and Atiku. So he'll get my vote.

People in her Sussex (or whatever it's called) constituency would definitely know her. This survey picked another Tory-held constituency to check her popularity. Not sure what's wrong with that.

The UK isn't like Nigeria where random people might know such things though. The findings will be similar for any opposition leader less than a year into the job in the country.

It takes gut, compromise, foresight, intelligence and proper planning. As controversial as it may sound, such individuals deserves whatever they are able to amass in the course of service. They are usually encumbered with calls for financial aids in and out of office, the holier than thou hypocrites wont understand these things, they cant possibly subsist on just their official salaries and they cant openly ask for help as people believe and expect them to be rich and independent

I will also not recommend the NPF to tackle them headon but after successful clearance by the military.. the police have to takeover to maintain the peace.
That's how's it's even done in a more crisis probe countries reason our police are deployed by UN as Peacekeepers around the world
I agree. The problem here is that when the NA routes BH from an area, they later regroup there when the NA leaves that place. Same force, similar capability. That's why the police can't immediately step in in most of these places until BH's capability is degraded to such an extent they can't pose a serious threat. We're not there yet.

That's the job of police

In summary we need more police coz the majority of the few ones we have are stationed with VIPs ....
The police are not equipped to tackle organised groups using military-grade weapons. That's the job of the military.
