I feel for Dangote and his business. He has invested so much into the refinery to now have to be dealing with a disruptive union that gave him nothing when he was building the refinery.
On the other hand, I can’t in good conscience stand against the unionization of the refinery workers. Unions, no matter how disruptive are very essential in ensuring the protection of workers interest against a capitalist that intends to maximize profit.
Hopefully, the two parties can find a middle ground in the overall energy interest of the country.

CoronaVirusPro: Do you know approximately 40% of SP500 company’s manufacture in China? Not mentioning small businesses that depends on China.
Yes, by figures you might attribute all and say the US has a bigger economy. But you must also include how 40% of it is driven by China.
Now relate with debt. Despite China’s tremendous growth, its debt has still been curtailed and less than 17 trillion which is about 85% of GDP. The US debt has buried its GDP-over 110%. Size of the economy is not a footnote. It's the main metric. The gap becomes even more glaring when you look at PCI, meaning Americans are far far richer. On manufacturing, China is just the factory, it doesn't own the brands. Don't get me wrong - I'm not downplaying China's phenomenal achievements. Just looking at your wild claims about it being ahead of the USA - which China itself admits it's not. |

They don’t cost an arm and leg to get basics. The bolded is correct. Not sure where you pulled the rest out of. Outside of the military, the other thing is economics. It's Islam that's against eating pork. Christianity doesn't condemn it Yes. Islam and the Old Testament are against it because at the time they were written, pigs were raised in very unsanitary conditions and so pork was seen as unclean. GanagiBitrus: You are blaming the crowd & at same time excusing them.
If emergency had arrived the scene, 1st thing they usually do is get rid of the crowd. Such untrained crowd usually do more harm than good.
That rope was simply not a good rescue option. It's only when you are pulling from a height or across shallow water. Even tying around the body might not have prevented drowning, though they would later be able to pull her body out.
If the crowd was intelligent enough, they would have realised the rope option wasn't a good one. They would also have realised that the woman was already safe where she was, so they should have encouraged her to be patient instead of attempting the rope option. She wasn't safe where she was - unless the rain had stopped and the waters were receding instead of increasing. They must have sensed that. This is Nigeria, so no helicopters were coming. No 911 or something to call - that's why did the only that made sense: try to help. If she had tied the rope around her, she would not have spent enough time inside the water to die - as long as the people pulling the rope didn't let go. It could still go wrong of course, but she would have stood a chance. |

GanagiBitrus: Plenty uncoordinated shouting from the crowd got the woman more confused & she panicked.
The crowd should have just calmed her down. &she should have just remained where she was which was safe enough, till a better rescue arrived.
Na the crowd follow kill the woman. She died because she could not hold on to the rope. Which is understandable under the circumstances. I wish she had tied it around her body or something. Really sad. No, the crowed played no role in "killing" her. Crowds are loud - that's normal. Their presence must have given her hope. Yes, they managed the rescue poorly, but that's because they're not trained. RIP to her. |

Travel › Re: Lekki Traffic: Lagosians Criticise Government For Not Opening The Coastal Road by JuanDeDios: 7:51am On Sep 24, 2025 |
naptu2: Yesterday confirmed something that I had previously written (I'll search for my previous post later).
I told you that the opposition to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road is purely political. I told you that years ago, when it was politically favourable, many of the same people that are criticising the construction of the road were actually criticising government for not building the road (this was in the period from 2006 to 2014). I also told you why they criticised government then.
They condemned government because they said that there was only one road into and out of Lekki. The Tinubu and Fashola administrations decided to expand the Lekki Expressway and people said that they were stu pid because they couldn't see that what was needed was another road. They said that the Coastal Road and Fourth Mainland Bridge should have been built instead of "Just adding one lane to Lekki Expressway".
Later, when the expressway was being tolled, they said that government should have built the coastal road before tolling the expressway.
Well, yesterday happened.
There was a monster traffic jam yesterday evening when I left the hospital. I gathered that it affected the eastern part of Victoria Island and the western part of Lekki Peninsula. It was partly due to people leaving their locations at the same time after the heavy rain that fell yesterday morning and afternoon. I was reading reactions while I was in the traffic jam.
Go to Twitter and you'll see some of the people that said that the Coastal Road is unnecessary. You'll see them complaining, insisting and appealing to government to open the completed sections of the Coastal Road. Some of them were able to go past the barriers and use the road anyway. These are the same people that say that the road is unnecessary.
See the reactions below.
Photo: Screenshot from a dashcam video of someone that used the Coastal Road yesterday night. I too was a critic of this coastal highway. But I recently travelled across the “south south”, and now I have mixed feelings. There are hardly any good roads left in the SS. Across the roads, you see fallen trailers, creating bottlenecks as road users are forced onto one lane and spend hours at a spot. In fact, everywhere, people have two words on their mouths: Dangote and Bua. They believe the roads have been spoilt by trailers. Now, here comes my on-the-one-hand… argument. If FG does not do the coastal road, it’d have more money to spend on these existing federal roads that have become unpassable – which was the argument made against the new road by many Nigerians, including me. However, many people I spoke to say – somewhat naïvely – that government should create a road for trailers. Well, maybe they can get that with the new road. The new road won’t be Trailer Road, of course, but having two roads will reduce traffic on one. This will reduce the issue of cement-laden trailers putting dead weight on the roads and spoiling them. But, again, we already have two roads (Old Road, the one built by Setraco, and New Road, the one built by Niger Cat). In most places, one was allowed to rot away, forcing all vehicles and trailers to use one and then wreck it. And now? Sisyphus is building a new road, a coastal road. Anyway, I wish Nigeria luck with its roads. |
