this statements by Bayo onanuga is without a doubt one of the most insenstive statements ever made. this stupidity within it is honestly baffling. how can you judge the suffering of the masses based on a flight to london. even the prices he called out for a plate of semo and other foodstuffs is honestly above what many nigerians currently see in a day. |

just gonna say two things. first of all those of you critcizing the boy for his statements should please keep quiet since you dnt know what has happened.the fact is, father or not, respect has to be earned and if his fater hasntdone anything to merit such respect, then i see no reason for complaint here. i respect my dad a great deal but not because he contributed to my birth but because he has contributed to my life and growth as a person in virtually every aspect. maybe its because i am not much of a traditionalist but i see no reason to respect an irresponsible man irrespective of any biological connections. secondly for those critcizing the boy for making the matter public, you all should remember that his father actually started the whole thing by issuing a public statement even making allegations that the occurence of his son's death was hidden from him. not saying the boy was in the right for going public but please remember to include his father when looking for who to blame. |

tbh, i am currently in shock at the level of ignorance displayed by some of the posts i have read through. why is it that we love celeberating stupidity and mediocrity in this country. this was honestly a non-issue that could have be resolved quitely and peacefully yet it has bern blown out of proportion by our inept police officers. also shocking is the fact that some people not only support this arrest but also feel the complainant was justified in making death threats whereas in saner climes, he would have been placed on immediate survellance while the police attempt to resolve the issue. LASTLY, for the *christians* among us who support this arrest, i hope you will not voice any complaint when missionaries are also arrestedor threatened with death for trying to preach the gospel in moslem communities as that could also cause "civil unrest" as it is "highly provocative". |

It is not a tradition that the most senior should automatically becomes the Leader, Gowon was not the most senior not even from the North but he became the Leader after the counter coup, Abdulsallam was not the most senior when Abacha died but he was made the head of state 1) still doesnt make it an igbo coup. nzeogwu, the coup leader was igbo but had spent most of his time in the north such that he took up the name kaduna. 2) like i said, ironsi clearly erred in judgement. 3) except thst is the norm in just about any "normal" coup (except in coups successfully carried out by junior officials). in the case of gowon and abdulsallam, they were clearly favoured by the northern elites whom after ironsi s death had control. particularly in gowon s case where even the british govt clearly wanted "jack" to become the next head of state. the main point of the military is a hierachial structure based on merit and service. thus, for your junior officer to suddenly become your superior without any merit would ordinarily be seen as a large insult by a true military man. its even been acknowledged that ojukwu acted like any soldier would given the situation. https://www.nairaland.com/814135/anybody-ojukwus-shoes-1966-wouldve |

southpole: You Igbos are too tribalistic, first it was the Igbo tribal coup, second the coupists infirmed their Igbo stakeholders to run away before the coup was carried out, third an Igbo man was made the head of state, fourth, the Igbo man head of state was not ready to punish the coupists may be because they were Igbos, fifth, when Ironsi was killed ojukwu an Igbo man started nursing ambission. why? actually you are being biased. 1) it wasnt a tribal coup. there were other officersalongside nzeogwu who werent igbos. 2) ?? 3) ironsi was head of state because he was the highest ranking military officer at the time. and while it was clear he erred in not immediately punishing the culprits, he actually made efforts at unifying the nation. iirc, he was even on a national tour when he was murdered. 4) ojukwu s grievance was the fact thar gowonwas made head of state despite being below ojukwu himself in rank. however, the agitations by ojukwu for biafra started after the massacre of reportedly milions of igbos in the north as well as the implied complicity of the gowon regime in the massacres. |

Is there any war(s) the country's troops are currently engaged in? The monthly IGR of lagos dwarfs the entire IGR of the 5 South eastern states combined. ibitzbarlow: I wonder why your likes can't make comments without name-calling or casting aspersions. That's negative and not good for anybody especally our country as it is so divided now.
You need to pay attention to details, my dear. The said land was acquired in 1992 (in the military era probably under IBB) by the FG and not "mapped out" by Goodluck. That was before democracy or Jonathan came on board. Goodluck couldnt have acquired that land in 1992 for his " sight and services" scheme as you claim between 2010-2015. Do the maths please.
I dont see any hatred here rather genuine complain. Not all states are blessed with large expanse of land in the country. In the military era "lands" were acquired under the guise of FG and owership later changed to private individuals. No work, construction or activity on the said land since 1992; that could lead any state govt to revoke ownership of the land and appropriate same for better use. Questions I would ask before taking sides are: 1. Did the FG attempt dialogue with the Anambra state government b4 filing the suit? 2. Did the FG acquire the land the right way (was due process followed?)? 3. Did Anambra state follow due process in revoking the land ownership? 4. Is the 50billion damages sought by the FG rational? 5. Is it right for the FG or any State government to tie-down such size of land without making efforts to utilize them?
Criticise or support wisely without bias or hate. Thanks. *slow clap* |
Politics › Re: How Buhari Averted Disaster In Ogoni Land ~ By Mohnice by JUHABACH: 2:11pm On Jun 03, 2016 |
mohince: If Buhari visits Ogoniland today and an attempt is made on his life, two things are bound to happen and both leads to only one end. One is to take him out using snipers or whatever and then what? The army will wipe the entire Southeast and South South off the surface of the earth. The army, Air force, Navy and all other security forces will be given a 'shoot at sight order' to keep shelling the entire region until nothing moves again, yes, nothing. The other is to make an attempt on his life and he escapes the assassination plot; either ways, the security agents will still kill everyone and everything. So, who wins? No matter how it plays out, the northerners will immediately commence ethnic Cleansing against the Millions of southerners in the North and the Southerners will also annihilate the Few northerners in the South and a full scale war that is worse than the Biafra or bokoHaram war will begin. Every ethnic group will take up arm against the other and continue to kill one another till the whole country is littered with corpses. Then the international community will wade into the crisis in the name of quelling the fight and take our oil and lands away from us. Then another round of Colonialization will begin in full gear and the few ones that are lucky to be alive will become slaves to the West. Biafra is lost and One Nigeria is also lost. So, who wins? Then 60 years from now, one of the few lucky survivors of the war will author a book with the title: 'There was a country' or 'Buhari's visit to Ogoniland: The beginning of the end of Nigeria'; or something like that. Again, who wins? But after a deep thought, I told myself that Buhari was right to cancel his visit and take the Shame that comes with it. He has clearly demonstrated a rare statesmanship that is worthy of emulation. The Buhari that I know is not worried about his life; he fought in the Biafra war 49 years ago. He is a war General who has seen death on several occasions. He is only concerned about the millions of life that will be wasted because of him as well as the aftermath effect of such bloody situation on the over 170million lives of fellow Nigerians. Thank you baba for saving our lives. You have just earned yourself the title of 'The father of a new Nigeria! Shame on you Wailers! kolmart: Dont you know that whenever there a low purchasing power the economy of such nation is bad. Workers are the distributor of cash to various people in the country. The reason why the people are complain now is that the purchasing power of the workers are very low and there is no much cash to be circulated by the workers to the people. Once the income of the workers increase, the purchasing power will be improved and more cash will be in circulation for the other people. Secondly, workers are the one that usually carry the burden, minimum wage have not been increased since 5 years now, and everything is increasing almost every second, how do you think the workers survive the hardship?. My brother we need increase in workers salary, without that the artisan, traders and other people will not get the cash. i m no expert but i dont fully agree with your analysis. while an increase in workers salary might increase the cash in circulation, the removal of fuel subsidy will inevitably lead to significant inflation of most goods and services in the country. thus, while federal workers may get more cash, there is little guarantee that their purchasing power would experience similar increase. there is also the fact that the salary increase only affects federal workers, thus i think you are over estimating the impact of the minimum wage of what amounts to about 1% of the total population on the overall economy of the country. |

Sorry....I know people would hate me, and I have already been shouted at for saying this....but right now....Nigeria cannot afford mass welfare projects with oil prices at $50 per barrel.....when we were having issues with such projects at over $100 per barrel.
(And I have even more bad news.....oil is going to keep going down. The $100 barrel era is over.).
For me, there is only one way out of this. Telling Nigerians the honest truth....we do not have enough money right now....and we need to spend money on becoming a self sufficient nation.....by improving power, roads, rail and education....so that we can no longer be affected by sudden drops in the oil price. We may go through some austerity....but it would be worth it at the end.
So sorry.....but APC and every other party should be thinking about saving money. Awoof government is forty years out of date. Time we became a serious manufacturing power...the hard way. my thoughts exactly. |

Fraudsters took advantage of the susidy policy, in league with Jonathan's officials, to rip off the treasury few years back. Rather than this writer leading a protest to accelerate the trial of subsidy thieves so that our money can be recovered and the thieves jailed, he is busy doing a jaundiced analysis. Mark my word, the wicked marketers behind fuel scarcity will come back soon to ask for higher price! Cost of living will hit the roof. The social cost of the removal will be higher than the expected savings! Respite will only come when local refining capacity is shored up. This is why Dangote and other modular refineries should be supported to come on stream quickly.
