richmon74: I usually stay away from making this kind of comments am about to but for this one i really feel like i should.
In economics of Engineering, we were thought to make the best use of what the client has on ground already. You should avoid making changes according to equipment you feel are not pro, rather you should base your design on what the need of the client is. In this case you didn't tell us what the need of your client is. Your planning to sale off the solar panels any replacing it with an expensive inverter doesn't make sense to me except i didn't understand you well. With that system and your recent upgrade to FM80, I want to believe if the installation is properly carried out (with proper cable sizing/quality, proper terminals etc) that the system should be very effective with relative to the size.
What will your client gain buy buying an inverter with almost half a million naira when he doesn't even have batteries? What advantage will he get by buying PRAG over luminous?
In my advice, power generation is always priority to storage. As such, the solar panels which you even want to sale off is more important than the inverter and batteries except the present batteries are bad.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Sukam inverter if you depend more on solar for charging the battery. Depending on inverter for charging the battery doesn't make economic sense to me except the person is not paying bills for power.
Finally, we always advice client to upgrade only on certain conditions like; - If he has grown financially over time and wants to move to pro products - If he has moved to a bigger apartment and can afford the upgrade - If the system he had installed was wrongly designed and wasn't operational for at least 60% rated efficiency - If the previous system failed and he could afford something better - If we are called and asked to upgrade.
The upgrade must make economic sense and improved efficiency before we get involved.
Please pardon me if this is not what you expected best advice. Oga has spoken |

Saipro: I concur with previous ratings and comments. My own addition is: I wish there were a way we could give feedback to make improvements. My greatest grouse with most Chinese inverters is their high standby energy consumption. imagine seeing 24v/2a cooling fan on one like that. I had no option than to dump it. Self-consumption was over 60w. I will post the picture later. But I liked the machine for two things. 1. It has AVR 2. Zero change over (DC to AC) is zero just like online ups. Believe me if you see prag with avr and ups function their price go tear pocket |

Order #3-5
User Experience:
After buying some limited sample inverters from this seller in 2013, we decided to start full commercial orders in 2014. We ordered 2 different products with total cost of about USD 10,000. In the process of selling the first batch or the commercial order we started receiving complaints of malfunctions and faults from customers. We even found a unit of one of the 2 products did not work at all right at the time of installation despite having no sign of physical damage or ingress of any liquid or fluid. Soon, we realized we were faced with a high failure rate of 10% which reached a peak of about 15% by the time all the units had been sold for each of the 2 products. We complained to Tina Yuan who was our sales contact using email (musta@mustups.com) and by phone (+86 13420968535, +86 189 4872 0962) and by whatsapp at different times but despite her promises nothing was done to address the problem. Several emails were sent to Tina and to the sales team mailing list and most of the emails were not replied. At a point Tina admitted they have received similar complaints from other resellers about the failures of the control board in one of the products which usually resulted in this particular product not accepting mains/utility power for battery charging or bypass operation. She indicated she will arrange for replacement boards to be shipped to us but failed to do so. The last complaint was made to Tina during the last 2015 Intersolar event and she asked me to send complaint again by whatsapp which I followed up with an email but she did not reply to any of these. I informed her I will use all means to report to relevant agencies or authorities about this dumping of poor quality products without necessary support by MUST and the effect this will have on their brand image but still there was no response. Every attempt to contact the senior or executive management of Must Power was also not successful which seems to be deliberate to shield the company from taking responsibilities.
User Recommendations:
I learned that you must not be deceived by Chinese companies that pose as manufacturers but lack real technical support for their products. They may have good website and even showcase products at global industry events. I learned that Must Power does not seem to have any strong technical team as we were never handed over to a technical team to resolve the problems. I advise other buyers to beware of this seller as they do not support their products. They are interested only in selling and collecting payments. This seller appears to be trading company that does some basic assembly of generic components with little value addition other than packaging. If you must deal with this company make sure you have a strong legally binding contract to protect you from potenutial losses due to product failures. Ensure you secure a 3 years warranty for the products at the minimum. Ensure you have information and necessary contacts of their E- level personnel.

Barezzi: Thanks bro, but how will this timer help in the scenario i painted earlier? There are times, during cloudy days that the battery state of charge is low. If the water pump comes on, it'll drain the battery and trip the inverter at low battery cutoff. If i had a voltage controlled switch instead of a timer, set it, the pump would never come on as long as the battery voltage is low and there's no utility power from the grid. I'd achieve better control...
So whether during the day or at night, i want my auxiliary loads disconnected when the battery voltage drops below a certain value, and reconnect them when the battery voltage climbs (by solar or grid supply) above another value.
If kiekie has such a switch, abeg hola! bros that device is capable of anything you want. Here is how I use mine, during raining season I set the timer to on my fridge by 11am and off by 2:30pm. Cos there must little sun that can power my fridge during that time no matter how cloudy. During dry season I set it to come on by 8.00am and off by 5:30pm. You can set it to pump the water for 20 or 30 minutes everyday between 12:30pm-1pm that's the peak time for solar panel according to research I did. Lastly the timer has different settings. On, it will be permanently on like a bypass. Auto according to what you set. Off there will be no output. I can provide 30a and above if you need it |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by JUO(m): 4:51pm On Oct 24, 2015 |
Barezzi: i am very interested in this... What's the fail-safe mode? If your inverter and utility supply go off, does the timer reset? I'd love to have a switch/setup that switches my fridge to NEPA when there's power, then to inverter at SOC => 50% when NEPA goes out. When the SOC drops below 50%, it should knock the fridge off the inverter, preserving battery capacity...
Is there a switch/relay/contactor/whatever that can disconnect/reconnect my fridge/water pump depending on my battery voltage? Like the type that switches off the inverter when the cut-off voltage is breached, and switches it back on at another voltage... it has a cmos battery that can keep time for over 6 months according to spare in my hand. You will need 30a for pumping machine although this will work because is 16a. Contact kiekie he is the dealer. Believe me this timer will make life easier for you |

chris81964: Mornigstar has a 600 V MPPT and Midnite Solar has a 250 V unit. Most controllers have a 150 V max. The Chinese have as low as 70 V and can max out at 145 Volts. Having the recipe does not make one a chef. That is why forums like this are a gold mine. and that doesn't come cheap, since MorningStar has 600v input are you saying one should put 550v or 600v since the the cc can handle 600v? High dc voltage can kill incase we have forgotten |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by JUO(m): 11:33am On Oct 04, 2015 |
abunafiu: Yes. I will definitely be scared of usimg 4 by 4. At 3 by 3 typical total Voc is usually between 115 and 130v for every 24v panel. My TSMPPT60 can handle max 150v. which means 130v is safe enough. However, 4 by 4 will result to 145 to 160V voc and that's when d problem will start. Always consider the name plate values on ur panels with respect to your cc b4 connection. With my 3 by 3 connection. My cc has never gone beyond 45°C . My cc has high temperature protection as well as high voltage disconnect.
Surge protection is highly recommended. my oga easy o. Your boy remain loyal. Just an advise for those that don't know, high voltage will damage your cc |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by JUO(m): 10:13am On Oct 04, 2015 |
abunafiu: I don't think his panels arrangement is responsible for the fault. To the best of my knowledge, mppt controllers have dc to dc converters that's controlled by some programme( firmware) for best performance. It's simple, lightening struck his cc and affected some components on board. Over time, we have been advised to use surge arrestors. I am still saving for one though, except if solardepotng.com is kind enough to throw one at me as independence gift.
Alaba boys are good. You may give them a try.
BTW Earthrealm, u hardly acknowledge or reply mails. the other time u posted about stabilisers, I was kind enough to send u a mail including pictures of them. and so on. Same yesterday morning. But you were scared to use 4x4 even when your cc is 150v input? Have you by any means checked the device temperature at 90v and above at noon? I believe you will be scared of 4x4 by the time you see the result. I think you know the result of an engine performing at a high RMP all the time? |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by JUO(m): 3:54am On Oct 04, 2015 |
earthrealm: sad news...my morning star 45amp CC has died....my folks in the village hv been complaining that the inverter barely lasts 10mins for a couple of days now...was finally able to go check it, thinking twas the heavy rains or something...but alas in bright sunlight the CC was displaying 0amp,i checked the log and this zero harvest started 10days ago....they reported no ligtening strike...so am rally at loss what might hv damaged it......has anyone experienced this b4?...and any luck in repairing it? the unit is about 21 months old. 4 x 250w 24v renogy panels connected in series. input voltage usually hovers around 130v. system is hooked up to 2 x 200amphr luminous batts, and 1.5kva 24v luminous inverter....
any suggestions would be welcome, attached is a pic of the unit voltage usually hovers around 130v. This is high, you suffered the cc to handle the voltage for 21 months. To make matters worse you were off grid, no resting time for the cc. Sorry for your loss but I think alaba boys can fix it. Always leave breathing space for anything be automobile or electronics next time. 2x2 would have been better |

JohnKester: Sir Frankie
I am in the process of moving into a new house and wish to install solar power since I am not connected to the grid yet. For this I need the following:
Hybrid 6KW 48V Inverter (Daltron, Xantrex, Outback or Prag are my preferences) to handle Solar, Generator and Public utility. Solar charge controller, MPPT 80A (Morning Star, Xantrex or Outback) Mono Solar Panels (24V 300W minimum capacity), German, Japan or American made Batteries (AGM Deep Cycle, 12V 230AH or 2V 500AH or 6V 500AH) German and American makes which can be install indoors. AC and DC breakers
Kindly give me a quote based on the above, using the appropriate quantities.
The project is to be executed in Port Harcourt and your quotation should therefore include delivery of the merchandise to Port Harcourt.
Please give me your most competitive prices and I will see if we can deal and I trust that all items shall be original and no China Nigeria specs.
Send email to reflections_galleries@yahoo.com.
Hope to hear from you soonest.
Cheers. by the time you see the quote, I mean the price only you will request for Chinese cc and battery. Even governors and senators cannot pay for what you are requesting for, not because they can't afford it but they will prefer to run generator than spending almost 10M for 6kw in the name of American and European products. I wish you success, please post pictures and spec when you are done |
