AfriqueDuZuid: It's kinda putting the rest of the continent in to shame, when people see YouTube and see how small things like a 20 km road is praised or how putting pavement/walkway makes headlines.
It's videos like that that makes people disrespect Africa and its people. And worst part they mention the rest of the continent like the entire continent does it.
They dream everyday to live in apartments on those blocks that do not have lifts thinking it os good living because that is all they see.
When people from their slums make small progress in live, they move from the worse part of their slums to the less worse parts (slum apartments)
They dont know that the best part of life is to own their own 3 to 4 bedroom self compound and own a car or 2.... this is not part of their dreams
vankelvin: When Kenyans see highrise building all their worries varnishes , and that's why they live in slums. When they wake up in the morning, they come out of their dirty rooms, look at the high rise buildings in the city center, go and cook stones then go back to sleep again
Nairobi has the highest growth rates per annum compared to the other growth rates in Africa. 75% of the urban population growth is absorbed by informal settlements. The number of urban population living in slums will double in the next 15years.
Informal settlements cover only 5% of the total residential land area of the city, but they are inhabited by at least half of the city’s population
vankelvin: Ghanaians are never traumatized by your tiny unis. So sensible person will compare a one highrise building to multiples of building such as we have in University of Ghana. We have established that here.
Just a traditional Uni hall in Ghana is bigger than a whole Uni campus in kenya
see this below
Let me help you with a proper picture of the 4 halls.
rvp20182: Once again; countries like South Africa have slums; Kenya has slums; Nigeria and Ghana slums have nice areas. That is definition of a slumpolis. Big difference. You entire city is unplanned hodgepodge of cesspits and soakpits - where everyone build their own chicken coop like unfinished structures without basic infrastructure.
FOrtunately every part of my City is planned.... including all-district...
There is basic infrastructure for all and that is why they are able to live in their nice building comfortably....
You guys are poor and the only things you can live in is the huge slums all around your country.. with no proper infrastructure.
I can bet my last dime that GSTS secondary school has more infrastructure than most Kenyan universities. Yet they keep building more newer labs and hostels
Is it Ghanaians fault that kenyan universities dont have infrastructure?
NTSA: Why are Ghanaians this daft ...when I get time I will do a detailed comparison of the various universities in both countries and end this debate.
We already have the most modern sewage systems that does not polite the environment with raw sewage anytime it rains like in Kenya that practice open pit sewage
That is as old as 1800s..
modernise guys..... if you cant learn from Ghana, at least learn from Egypt, they are building similar sewage treatment facilities that Ghana have been building.
Fotunately, my entire cities are more beautiful and more developed than your slumpolis of 7 million people....
We can pick all your 4 cities and there will be more slum dwellers than people living in well established neighbourhoods.
Why do you think your country is the slumpolis of Africa ?
rvp20182: Build a modern sewage system first before you engage us in any serious debate. If it was that simple - Egypt wont have invested 1.5B dollars in one. Your entire cities are slumpolis. That is why you fear drone shot - except for a few selected areas.
rvp20182: Oxymoron - according to UNCTAD- if you purchase 10 percent of a stock through LSE or JSE - it quality to be FDI - if you buy a few shares - then it doesnt.
You can make direct investment in a company - through equity or debt - there is no other way.
Go back to school and learn what FDI is..... i prefer a Ghanaian school for you
Dont confuse foreign Direct Investment with Foreign portfolio invesment.
rvp20182: You simply cannot afford to build apartments because it's impossible without modern sewage. One apartment would need huge cesspoll/soakpits - so you have sprawling slumpolis like in Nigeria - and crazy traffic jams.
Apartment are most economical use of urban spaces.
We can afford anything as long as there is demand for it... The things we afford to build, kenya cannot afford them.
What you don't know is, most apartments decide to treat their own sewage on-site because it is cost-efficient as they can use it to generate gas for cooking..
We have sprawling well-developed communities with beautiful mansion that have made our cities bigger than anything in your country.. We dont allow slums to develop here like you guys have allowed in your country.. all because of lack of proper accommodation facilities that is affordable to the 7 million slum dwellers in Nairobi.
rvp20182: Only in Ghana where you lack modern sewage system - do people share facilities like one toilet connected to cess pit or soakpit. In apartments - everyone has their own "everything". The only shared thing is perhaps the lift or stair-case.
You are dumb as usual .... Ghanaians do not want to have a shared corridor with anyone or live in an apartment without lifts.. that is 99% of apartments in Kenya..
As we've seen in Kenya several times, those apartments tend to be filthy.
We like our own self compound where everything is used by only us, including sewage.
rvp20182: How is purchasing interest in company - not stock or equity investment. This problem of double track half-baked Ghanian education. Go back to proper school
IF you buy it through stock investment.... it doesn't count as FDI, unless it is done directly....
Kenyan education failed you .... dumb kid
THose are the reasons why 90% of investments doesn't count as FDI
gallivant: Ghanains are traumatized by high rises.
Ghanaians do not like poor living and living on an apartment and sharing the same user facilities with thousands of people is an example of poor living....
rvp20182: Madcow. That one clearly involve stock investment;
OECD definition Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows record the value of cross-border transactions related to direct investment during a given period of time, usually a quarter or a year. Financial flows consist of equity transactions, reinvestment of earnings, and intercompany debt transactions. Outward flows represent transactions that increase the investment that investors in the reporting economy have in enterprises in a foreign economy, such as through purchases of equity or reinvestment of earnings, less any transactions that decrease the investment that investors in the reporting economy have in enterprises in a foreign economy, such as sales of equity or borrowing by the resident investor from the foreign enterprise. Inward flows represent transactions that increase the investment that foreign investors have in enterprises resident in the reporting economy less transactions that decrease the investment of foreign investors in resident enterprises. FDI flows are measured in USD and as a share of GDP. FDI creates stable and long-lasting links between economies.
dumb kid .... You know nothing but always want to comment on things...
A foreign direct investment (FDI) is a purchase of an interest in a company by a company or an investor located outside its borders.
Generally, the term is used to describe a business decision to acquire a substantial stake in a foreign business or to buy it outright in order to expand its operations to a new region. It is not usually used to describe a stock investment in a foreign company.
If it involved stocks, like Ghana FDI received will be 20 billion dollars a year and FDI outflows from Ghana will be 12 billion dollars.
See how you are fumbling... Your fingers cant even string a proper sentence together.
rvp20182: There is no a single Ghanian here who went to single track of school - all you never went back in the afternoon or in the morning - that is only humane excuse that would explain this level of obtuseness.
There is an old Ghanian in Skyscrapper city who knows his stuff - I guess he didnt go to school in Ghana - the rest of you Bonobos - your combined IQ would not light a bulb
rvp20182: There are many definition - this is UNCTAD - and clearly they do a poor job collecting data
Foreign direct investment (FDI) Foreign direct investment (FDI) is investment involving a long-term relationship and lasting interest in and control by a resident entity in one economy in an enterprise resident in another economy. In FDI, the investor exerts significant influence on the management of the enterprise resident in the other economy. The ownership level required in order for a direct investment to exist is 10% of the voting shares. Such investment involves both the initial transaction between the two entities and all subsequent transactions between them and among foreign affiliates, both incorporated and unincorporated. FDI may be undertaken by individuals or by business.
rvp20182: UNCTAD dont know what they are doing. 2021 alone - Safaricom outflow to Ethiopia is worth how much? Kenya companies are behind the private sector of many east african countries - now including Congo.
I don't think you know what FDI is... FDI does not include a stock investment
The problem with you dwarfs is that you base your argument with those two campuses - one is a professional school which in Kenya, we don't count those as a university.
Every campus in kenya even the smallest has all things mentioned above.
