PoliticsRe: Why Did Buhari Arrest Ojukwu? by Justcash(op): 1:13pm On Jan 10, 2015

I am telling you allegations of corruption were just a COVER. They were afraid of the guy. They did not do it (arrest him) because he was Ibo which is always what you guys like to hear. So many other people were arrested without trial not just Ojukwu, we are hearing Ojukwu' s case because of his prominence.
The common and most usual official line to the family when you are arrested without trial was always that they were investigating. The worst perpetrator of arrest without trial was IBB (Jonathan's Fada) and Abacha.
IBB AND ABACHA arrested people and placed treason as their crimes. They subjected people to trials and even shot some. Atleast, we do know that they were accused of being coup plotters.

Buhari, on the other hand, arrested people and accused all of them of corruption. But then, it is surprising that he arrested a person like OJUKWU who obviously was not part of the government and whose capability and willingness to muster political influence, of national scale, had waned. OJUKWU COULD NOT EVEN WIN AN ELECTORAL POSITION IN THE EAST AS POINTED OUT EARLIER. Why was such a person arrested? They kept him for 10 months and gave no reason for that.

If OJUKWU was arrested to raise the popularity and support for Buhari's government, as implied in a contribution, whose support are you talking about? How can arresting a man that has been pardoned by the state raise the popularity of BUHARI'S government?

I have googled it. I could not find any tangible reason. I had to ask here to gain more insight because I'm sure some people with adequate knowledge about that event are in this forum.

I have just explained above.
The RISK PROFILE of Ojukwu was higher than others. He was a former military man, leader of a secessionist region who went into partisan politics. If you allowed him free, what if he linked up with Umaru Dikko (who was the main enemy in the mind of the gov t) they threatened the new government?. To you as civilians it is wickedness, to Ojukwu himself who would have done the same if the shoes were reversed it was expected security issue by a new government trying to prevent a counter coup. My major problem is always why Ibos don't have capacity to understand other people at all and are always operating under a kind of persecution mania. Abacha threw Yardaua and Obj into the worst prisons, injected one with poison and almost got the other with the same treatment and we all shrug it off now because rightly or wrongly Abacha was doing it for his own self survival.
ABACHA threw OBJ and Yar'adua into jail because he accused them of plotting a coup. The reason for their arrest was clearly stated, even though we may not be able to verify how true the accusation was. WHAT WAS THE NAME GIVEN TO OJUKWU'S OWN CRIME THAT EARNED HIM INCACERATION BY BUHARI'S GOVERNMENT?

The problem with Nairalamd is there are too many half educated and unexposed young people, semi illiterates actually who have lost the power to research anything or think due to an inadequate educational system. A lot of them start ignorance exposing threads and spew trash unnecessarily.
First of all, Ojukwu was not of concern to the Buhari Idiagbon regime at all. The biggest enemy they had was Umaru Dikko, the NPN strong man who had stolen money and was threatening to start a gov't in exile, there was later an even bigger enemy within the administration itself which we now know was Babangida.. Ojukwu himself had been out of the country in exile for years and was only invited back by the NPN gov't to boost their chances in the East against Zik. At the time Ojukwu came back to Nigeria, he was practically friends with everybody except funny enough, the Lagos State government that was sitting on his dad's numerous properties in Lagos. Ojukwu was a spectacle to behold and he attended Miss Nigeria contest as guest, fell in love with the winner, CC Onoh's daughter who became his wife. That was the Ojukwu we knew, a glamorous celebrity.
When Buhari came in all politicians had messed up big big time and were very unpopular. The jailing of all politicians included Ekwueme Ojukwu, Pa Ajasin and Okadigbo who used to insult Zik in public. Akinloye and Akinjide ran to the UK.
Most active senior politicians were in prison except Zik, Awo and Shagari who was put on house arrest.
The Buhari regime came in as heroes to rescue the country and most newspaper articles were favourable. Umaru Dikko who was later put in a crate was like the Shekau now, a public enemy No.1
Please cure your delusion. The Buhari regime was not about Ojukwu and Ojukwu was not the main issue of the day.
It was just an Hausa-Fulani civilian government being overthrown by Hausa-Fulani military officers. Pure and simple.
Interesting response. Thanks.

I already know that Buhari bundled a lot of politicians into jail. While it is easy to understand why he threw the active politicians in jail, it is difficult to understand WHY HE DEEMED IT FIT TO BUNDLE OJUKWU INTO JAIL TOO. After all, Ojukwu did not participate in Shagari's government.

Are you implying that by marrying Bianca Onoh, he demonstrated corruption and deserved to be jailed? Was his crime being pardoned by SHAGARI for political popularity?

Please, explain further. Your explanation is vague.

Buhari actually arrested Ojukwu. It is well documented and can be found if you conduct a minor search online.

I'm asking why he arrested Ojukwu, especially as I don't know why he did it. I will like to know. No need for you to get sentimental.

Ojukwu was active in politics. He contested for Senate and lost to Dr. Edwin Onwudiwe in 1982. He was arrested, his innocence proven, he was freed and I am sure they apologised to him.
You rightly noted that Ojukwu contested and lost. Therefore, he was not part of Shagari's government. If Buhari's intention was to punish corrupt officials at the time he overthrew Shagari's regime, WHY DID HE SEE THE NEED TO ARREST OJUKWU?

Was Ojukwu the only one that was jailed and freed unconditionally? Ciroma was jailed, Jakande was jailed (and released) but both men respect Buhari. Infact, Jakande campaigned for Buhari in 2011... Ojukwu was also close to Buhari and was even accused by some people that he was working alongside Buhari to return Buhari as President in 2003.
I will like to know why Ojukwu arrested? What was he arrested for? What was he suspected of doing? He just came back from exile at that time, and was not actively involved in running the government. Why was he arrested?

I will not let this thread to go down without someone telling me about one thing the so called, "People's General" has done in all the years that he lost all the presidential elections.

A CHILD BORN WHEN BUHARI FIRST LOST A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION WILL BE 12 YEARS OLD IN 2015. APART FROM BEING KNOWN AS A "SERIAL ELECTION LOSER", WHAT ELSE CAN SUCH A CHILD REMEMBER HIM FOR?

Please, if he has written a book, tell me about it, I will like to read.

PoliticsWhat Was Buhari Doing In The Years After Losing Elections? by Justcash(op): 3:39am On Jan 09, 2015
Out of curiosity, what was Buhari occupied with in the years after he lost elections?

He lost in 2003, what was he doing in 2004, 2005 and 2006?

He lost in 2007, what was he doing in 2008, 2009 and 2010?

He lost in 2011, what was he doing in 2012, 2013 and 2014?

I am asking because he seems to disappear after losing elections, and appear when it is time to contest a new election.

Is there any lecture delivered by him? Any books written by him? Is there any project of national development embarked on by him? Did he embark on any course? WAS HE JUST DORMANT?!

I don't mean to insult him, I just need to know.
PoliticsThere Is A New PDP. That Is The Change We Crave For by Justcash(op): 3:20am On Jan 09, 2015
I don't know if it is only me that noticed that PDP has been transformed into a younger and more rejuvenated party?
The old PDP cargoes like

OBASANJO
ATIKU
ANENIH
IBB
EKWUEME
LAR
.....and many more have either defected to opposition parties, are late, been retired, been relegated to the background or left to play advisory but non-influential roles. Infact, Adamu Muazu was the oldest active PDP member that still stands on the podium with the younger ones.

A new set of influential, rejuvenated, updated and more educated PDP leaders have emerged. Men like:

GOODLUCK JONATHAN
SAMBO
FAYOSE
PETER OBI
AKPABIO
METUH

.....and many younger people. The youths and women are finding their voices as has never been witnessed in Nigeria's history

This is TRUE CHANGE.

APC ALSO BOAST OF YOUNG AND VIBRANT LEADERS LIKE FASHOLA, BUT THESE YOUNGER MEN LACK INFLUENCE IN THE STATE OF PARTY AFFAIRS. THE OLD CARGOES LIKE BUHARI, TINUBU ETC ARE STILL DOMINATING PARTY AFFAIRS
PoliticsRe: External Reserves Rises Marginally To $34.513bn by Justcash(m): 10:57am On Jan 08, 2015
Adminisher:
The exchange rate is flat. What is there to celebrate here? The ECA was shared because because of the 'suspicious' level of movements of the money kept in the accounts. The governors wanted to build their own reserves or spend them on infrastructure. Akwa Ibom is shinning now where do you think the money came from?. Go to PH and compare it with what it was four years ago. I am an APC supporter and I am the first to admit that a governor like Peter Obi did well, where did the money come from and how did he build his own reserves for the future, leaving about N60bn in savings. If the governors had left the money, it would have gone anyway. Senators are paying themselves $2m per annum and were steadily increasing the values of their fake constitutiency projects to loot. The generals are prolonging the Boko Haram war to loot everybody lots with the clueless Jonathan and all the money would have gone without any development. At least the following states have done something with the money- Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Kano, Osun, Imo, Lagos, Ogun, Edo, Ekiti, Kaduna and Oyo.
What Jonathan should have done was applied good leadership and engaged all the governors to agree to jointly owned high value Niger Delta projects that would have earned more money for Nigeria like fertilizer and petrochemicals (these projects would have been managed by the world bank to prevent corruption and quickly implemented so that we would have started deriving value now).
The issue here is that some APC chalartans like Amaechi, who was at the forefront of the demand for ECA funds, is now accusing GEJ of embezzling the funds. This is despite the fact that he knew what happened to the ECA funds. APC IS BEING UNSCRUPULOUS JUST TO SCORE POLITICAL POINTS.

He has been hiding under the military mentality to strive, but he never knew that one day, our democracy will become matured. If Buhari cannot support his credentials, he should be disqualified and arrested for scamming NIGERIANS for many years.

This is not fair at this point in nigeria
I don't intend to sound insensitive, but obedience is critical in the development of a formidable army. From information being received, these military guys are facing a ragtag group that lack training and are sometimes outnumbered. If they don't want to fight, why are they wasting their time in the military? They should give way for NIGERIAN youths that are ready to pound the BOKO Haram charlatans. 30 boko boys dislodged up to 1000 military men who ran like women at the sound of gunshots. We need warriors, not sissies.

There is no democracy in the military. If you don't want to fight, stop receiving the dues meant for warriors.
