gists:Still, you exhibit the lack of understanding of the dynamics involved in national development. Assume that you were the president, CAN YOU SOLVE ALL THE PROBLEMS PLAGUING THE NATION IN 6 YEARS? It is easier said than done. Destruction is easier than building. It took several decades of successive leadership failure to plunge Nigeria into the sorry state that we now find ourselves. I wonder how you want all these to be repaired in 6 years. you ignore the fact that it is normal for challenges to emerge and threaten the sustenance of progress. The fall in oil price and the recent pull out of the US from buying Nigeria's petroleum products are not under the control of the FG. All they can do is to re-adjust to sustain the pace of development. The link that you posted, about the outcome from the stagnancy of the PIB bill is more complex than you have implied. It is either you deliberately ignored it or you just don't know. The national assembly are the ones behind the deadlock as shown in the link below; http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/01/22/nigeria-oil-idUSL6N0ARD3520130122 You are very wrong to blame it on GEJ's government. He is simply being a democrat by respecting the other arms of government. After all, you played a part in electing the legislators. The sack of workers and the glut in investment in the petroleum industry has been blamed on the lack of government stance on the PIB bill. It has nothing to do with GEJ's effort. It also has nothing to do with the issue of oil bunkering. Oil Bunkering did not start with this government. As a matter of fact, this government has made tremendous effort to curtail it by arming the Navy effectively. See the links below; http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=28952:nigerian-army-arrests-1-945-destroys-ships-illegal-oil-refineries-in-2012-crackdown&catid=108:maritime-security&Itemid=233 http://saharareporters.com/2014/01/14/nigerian-navy-arrests-21-impounds-two-ships-oil-theft http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/tackling-crude-oil-theft-the-nigerian-navy-way/132768/ Oil Bunkering is a problem that was in existence even before the current government was conceived. Like I said before, it took decades to create, it will take more than 6 years to crush it effectively. You are right, "SOME" workers have not been paid in November and December. However, the FG has responded and explained that IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SLIDE IN OIL PRICES or ECONOMIC DOWNTURN. See the link below; http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/lead-story/192034-workers-groan-over-unpaid-dec-salaries You are attributing it to Nigeria's economic problems which is VERY WRONG. worse still, you are implying that Nigeria's economy is not the biggest economy in Africa. You posted a link about Nigeria being the poorest country in Africa. THAT IS RELATIVE. YOU WILL NEED TO UNDERSTAND THE INDICES THAT THEY REFERED TO BEFORE MAKING YOUR CONCLUSION. Nigeria's economy, backed by the fiscal policies of the FG, is still powering in the face of enormous challenges. IT IS THE BIGGEST ECONOMY IN AFRICA. see the link below; http://www.informationng.com/2014/09/nigerias-gdp-records-6-5-growth-in-second-quarter-nbs.html You cannot argue about the fact that Nigeria is facing enormous SOCIO-RELIGIOUS challenges, and the fact that in the midst of these challenges, the government is still holding the economy up. Again, you WER wrong for denouncing the FG on the basis of a conclusion made by a certain agency. You must be objective in your reasoning. Generally, employment rate is thriving, though not good enough yet. See the link below; http://www.informationng.com/2014/09/good-news-nigeria-records-85-per-cent-employment-in-first-half-of-2014-nbs.html It is expected, considering the increased rate of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflow and the activation of the manufacturing sector. Even with the worrisome unemployment rate, jobs are being created by the FG. See the link below; http://businessdayonline.com/2014/09/rate-of-job-creation-insufficient-to-tame-unemployment-in-nigeria/#.VKU8eCuUdGQ If you want to convince people that the FG did not transform Nigerian roads, you must bring some evidence. There are lots of evidence to show that the FG has greatly transformed Nigerian roads. See the link below; http://www.today.ng/opinion/how-jonathan-is-breaking-new-grounds-for-road-sector/ You will have to take pictures to prove them wrong. I have friends that traveled to the South East through that road this December, and they proved that it has been transformed, although they noted that a lot more needs to be done e.g. drainages as noted in one of the videos. If you say that it is not true, you will need to show some evidence. As I noted above, it took decades to destroy the power sector, 6 years will not be enough to repair it. The first step has been taken by handing the sector over to capable hands, YOU WILL REALLY NEED TO BE PATIENT TO EXPERIENCE THE IMPACT OF ITS PRIVATIZATION. You will need to see the video that I posted. Same goes for the security issues being faced by Nigeria. The military was tactically disarmed by past governments for fear of coups and mutinies. The military was and is still in a sorry state. the Federal government is currently recruiting, training and arming the Nigerian military to face current challenges. See links below; http://ynaija.com/army-trains-154-special-forces-to-dislodge-boko-haram/ http://www..ng/2014/12/19/nigerian-government-buys-77-t72-tanks-fight-boko-haram-see-photo/ http://www.worldbulletin.net/news/150158/nigeria-to-buy-russian-fighter-jets http://www.janes.com/article/46579/ideas-2014-nigeria-close-to-signing-up-for-jf-17 Yeah, it is fine for you to choose not to vote GEJ, but give honor to whom it is due. |
gists:In your attempt to rubbish the glaring milestones in the video, you have made very frivolous and ignorant statements. I don't mean to insult you o, but your response to this post revealed how much you don't know about transformation and development. Your "REAL-LIFE street facts", whatever it is, did not reveal any fact. What does being the biggest economy have to do with withholding the salaries of workers? WHICH AGENCY RATED NIGERIA AS THE POOREST AFRICAN NATION? WHERE DID OIL WORKERS LOSE THEIR JOBS? You will do well to back up your frivolous statements with evidence. Moreover, if oil workers lost their jobs and the economy is not doing too well, do you have to blame the government for causing the economic crisis? Did the FG reduce the price of oil? You see? You know very little of what you are fast to respond to. You have just announced to us that you are using an inverter. Good. How does that disprove or make FG's privatization useless? WHO ARE YOU TO SAY THAT THE STORY REMAINS THE SAME ALL OVER THE COUNTRY? DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT POWER GENERATION AND DISTRIBUTION IN THE PAST AND NOW? Here again, you showed that you know nothing about privatization, power generation and current dynamics in the Nigerian power sector. About the roads, are you saying that what we are seeing in the video was distorted? Do you really think you can interpret everything the way you wish even in the face of glaring evidence? Did you even watch any of the videos? Your statement about the Made in Nigeria cars is laughable. It shows that you underestimated how much reforms has happened in that sector. Just patiently watch the video before making any comment. You call the trains obsolete. Sigh, you are so ungrateful. Which advanced rail system were you riding in the past in Nigeria? Do you know that the same train is being used in more developed nations? How will you know when you have refused to do your research. Street facts indeed. SMH. Your continuous use of the security situation to score points against the FG is becoming obsolete. ISN'T IT OBVIOUS THAT THE FG IS TACKLING THE SECURITY ISSUE HEADLONG? This is despite the fact that it is a war involving INTERNAL GUERRILLA WARFARE. Something that Nigeria is not used to. Gallant youths are in the forests dying for you, you are here mocking them. What a shame. I'll leave you with some questions, "WHICH LEADERS FAILED TO UPDATE THE NIGERIAN MILITARY FOR MANY DECADES? IS THIS LACK OF UPDATE REFLECTING IN THE CURRENT FIGHT AGAINST INTERNAL AGGRESSION? IS THE FG STRIVING TO UPDATE THE MILITARY? If you can sincerely answer these questions, you'll be educated on the complexities involved in the current war. If you must criticize, try to be objective or better still, present facts. |
bigiyaro:It is a transformational process. It does not happen overnight. If previous governments had done their bits, the situation would have been way better. There is hope, especially now that the private sector has invested their scarce resources in the power sector. They will fight tooth and nail to provide good services that can ensure the recuperation of their investments. In a few years to come, the government will only play a regulatory role in that sector and stability will be ensured. |
These are some reforms that GEJ's government has carried out that cannot be doubted. Video Links are provided to prove their successful implementation. 1. I have decided to campaign against electoral violence in Nigeria. I will devote my time to this in 2015. Dear Nairalanders, Please vote for your preferred candidates and respect the votes of other Nigerians. No politician is worth a human life. The beauty of democracy is in the ability to make a choice and watch the impact of the voting power of the masses. ABHORE VIOLENCE, DISCOURAGE POGROM AND ENCOURAGE DEMOCRACY. WE MUST PROTECT OUR VOTES AND MAKE THEM COUNT IRRESPECTIVE OF THE OUTCOME. I want to wish Nairalanders happy new year. May we all live to see 2016. LONG LIVE NIGERIA AND NIGERIANS. |
International diplomacy is about securing the interest of a nation amongst their peers. Nigeria made a right decision. Let me ask a simple question; Between Isreal and Palestine, who will you prefer Nigeria to have as a friend? We have our problems as a nation, and we will have to protect our interest as much as possible. We need our oil to be sold and arms to tackle internal agression. America can buy our oil and Isreal can supply us needed weapons. The Palestinians cannot give us anything. This was used as a bargaining chip. Politics is cruel. If you don't want to play dirty, stay away from it. |
iampartyboy:Catchment area is about geographical location and possible socio-cultural similarities. However, it is based on merit. In essence, NIGERIANS, as a whole are admitted, but a few, from some STATES (not ethnicity), are given preference based on their geographical location. Which means that an Igbo can gain admission as well as a Yoruba and Hausa in Lagos State. We all have the right to study anywhere we want in Nigeria, as long as we are Nigerians and we meet the qualification criteria. Catchment area does not give a Yoruba student more right to study in Lagos state than an IGBO student. Moreover, catchment area is more about state than ethnicity. An Igbo student that graduated from a school in OYO or Osun is still eligible. Read the link below;http://unilagadmissionguide.com/tag/what-are-catchment-areas-of-universities/ |
lowgeorge:I am confident that you'll come to accept it as a reality with time. Your response is hilarious. It got me laughing. I still can't understand why you are so enraged. Lmao. |
VirginFinder:"RULE" is a wrong word to use. Don't be scared, nobody will rule you. "GOVERN" is the right word. Good governance does not come with ethnic affiliation. Competent non-Yorubas will govern Lagos State soon. Hopefully, you will see that you have nothing to be scared of. |
VirginFinder:It is happening. The governorship position is a matter of time. A non- Yoruba governor of Lagos State will happen soon despite the loud antagonism from a few like you. Lagos will be the starting point of true unity in Nigeria. If this fact gets you angry, then I can't help you because I am only stating facts. |
Nigeria's unity is a settled issue. UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL. We are Nigerians and Nigeria is ours. Every single part of Nigeria belong to NIGERIANS. Those that sow the seed of discord in the name of ethnic plurality and religious fundamentalism will be defeated by the hard earned unity of Nigeria. Souls were avoidably lost in a regrettable civil war to sustain the unity of this great nation. The loss of those souls must not be in vain. LAGOS STATE aka EKO aka LAS GIDI is a reflection of Nigeria's strength and unity. Lagos was created as a gathering point of NIGERIANS from every nook and cranny of our beautiful nation. In Lagos state, it is difficult to differentiate people based on their ethno religious nationality. LAGOS IS OWNED BY NIGERIANS. The tribal homogeneity of Lagos disappeared with the end of the civil war and the declaration of NO VICTOR, NO VANQUISHED. Those of you threatening mayhem against Igbos are not aware of how complicated the task will be. You don't understand that Nigeria's unity supersedes spurious ethnic claims. What you seek has been settled decades ago. IT CAN NEVER, I repeat, IT CAN NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. The moment you start it is the moment you will face the wrath of the Living and the Dead. NIGERIA WAS SIGNED AND STAMPED WITH BLOOD. YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DUMP YOUR ETHNIC BIGOTRY AND ACCEPT EVERY NIGERIAN AS YOUR BROTHER OR SISTER IRRESPECTIVE OF TRIBE.
|
T4taiwo:Kano is part of Nigeria too. It is just that Lagos is more multi-cultural and metropolitan than Kano. So, Lagos is a better place to start the annihilation of ethnic based politics. |
shiffynaani:I see. You don't believe in Nigeria. Sorry, we have come too far to divide. Eko was historically in Yoruba land. Lagos state is currently in Nigeria. You should be proudly NIGERIAN.
|
shiffynaani:All you need to do is to embrace your fellow NIGERIANS as your brothers and sisters, enjoy the diversity that is inherent in the nation and tour the expansive and ravishly beautiful landscape of Nigeria. You will need to destroy the mental slavery that ethnic bigotry has subjected you to. When you do these, you will seriously make your life less complicated and very enjoyable. ENJOY NIGERIA. STOP SEEKING TO SEPARATE NIGERIA IN A PARADOXICAL DIVIDED UNITY. |
huptin:Yes, you are right. I am aware of that. It's, however, not as simplistic as you have implied. It's not just a give and take affair. The clarity of the land use system in Nigeria, as stipulated in the constitution, is still being questioned and subject to scholarly and judicial review. Having said that, you are mostly correct. |
shiffynaani:The IGBO group in question is seeking for political relevance in Lagos State. They are exerting pressure for political gains because they feel that they have earned it. They are NIGERIANS, and they have the constitutional right to do that. Other ethnic based pressure groups can do same in other states of Nigeria if they feel that they need political relevance. As long as they are Nigerians, it is constitutional. The anger generated by the action of this pressure group is based on suspicion of ethnic dominance, which is totally unnecessary. Very unnecessary. I see some people threatening pogrom. That is the height of ethnic bigotry, envy and hatred. Not like I care about how they feel because a pogrom cannot happen in present day Lagos State. Talk of OYO, Ogun etc, I'll agree. Lagos? Forget it. Where you wan start and where you wan finish? SMH. |
shiffynaani:Satisfaction does not necessarily come from the attainment of outcomes. It is also generated from the attainment of objectives. For example, If my objective is to beat my personal record in a hundred meters race, then I don't necessarily have to win the race in order to feel satisfied. My objective is to vote for some aspirants. I will attain satisfaction from simply contributing my quota towards their aspirations irrespective of outcome. |
aresa: huptin:According to the constitution, the state holds and administers rights over land use for "All NIGERIANS". As long as I keep paying the required fees as stipulated by the state government for the stipulated time frame, I own the land. It is mine until the day that I cannot lay claim of it. Moreover, the C OF O is applicable to every NIGERIAN irrespective of ethnicity and religion. In essence, even Yorubas are subject to the same law. The land is not owned by the Yorubas as purported by many here, but by the government. A government is not an ethnic or religious institution. In this case, there is no special privilege accorded to the Yorubas. Finally, the state cannot just wake up one day and start seizing lands bought legitimately because they feel worried about a certain ethnic group. They will be sued and Justice will prevail. |
whitecat2:I'm living it. |
whitecat2:Like I said, you have the right to think of it the way you want. I am proudly NIGERIAN and IGBO. I believe that soon, Lagos State will lead the way in ensuring true integration in Nigeria. A non-Yoruba, may or may not be IGBO, will lead Lagos soon. No matter how much you try, you cannot stop that from happening. It is a sign of an evolving metropolitan society. |
whitecat2:The group in the article is known as a "pressure group". They represent their organization and they hope to influence power. The idea of their representation of the entirety of IGBO NIGERIANS is subject to your own interpretation. They are not complaining, they are exerting pressure for political favor. They will vote hence their move to win favor. You need to do a bit of research on the meaning of "pressure group". I don't belong to that group. So, I find your generalization somewhat based on ignorance, and I mean that literally. Having said that, you have the right to express your view the way you want. |
whitecat2:Oh yeah? Lmao! Well, I'm living and loving my Nigerianness. I don't know what you mean by being MOVERS AND SHAKERS. All I want is my right, as a Nigerian, to live anywhere I wish without being trampled upon. I believe every NIGERIAN deserve that right irrespective of their tribe and history. Yeah, I have one vote, and I'll use it to express my preference. Even though we all love to win, expressing our preferences is more important than winning. I had no intention of making you excited. |
whitecat2:Currently, we do have the same rights. I don't see any special rights enjoyed by Yorubas in Lagos state. Can you outline any of these "special rights"? |
whitecat2:It is happening in Lagos State and other states. I'm living it. I'll vote to determine who'll lead Lagos State, as a Nigerian IGBO resident in Lagos. It is happening. Only disintegration can stop it. |
whitecat2:Like you noted, those are tales now. We must put the animosities behind and live together as ONE. I should be free to vote and be voted for in any NIGERIAN state. This is supported by the Nigerian constitution. Lagos shouldnt be an exception. Igbos are making valid demands in Lagos state. If you don't want it, speak with your vote, if you are of voting age sha o. |
Collynzo419:I agree that my fore-fathers were roundly defeated. This is why I believe in the one Nigeria that you boast of. I implore you to accept it and PRACTICE IT too. You have no choice. It is here to stay forever. |
I think the patience and hospitality displaced here by the INDIGENES is being seriously exploited by the IMMIGRANTS.
