It doesn't sir. Even the tobacco leave we heard of when we were kids does not repel snakes. There is a liquid chemical that repel snakes. Just spray it around your compound, and no snake will stay around again..
What's the name of this liquid chemical?

Copper pipe for 9500 is much 6500 is a good deal for better product.

Then the 4” pipe of 2500 should be thick pipe of 3-4mm thickness

Also the 2” pipe thick one is 1400 against 1700

Others are very good price
Thanks a lot man.

I got a qoute for a bag of lawn grass in Onitsha as between N1400 - N1700 (supply only) depending on the type. I was told a bag can cover between 3-5sqm.

If they would supply, prepare the ground with manure, plant, and nurture the grass for 3months involving 2-site visits per week, they would charge N2500 per Sqm. They are not responsible for watering on this condition, so you must have somebody to do the watering.

Buying the bags and planting would workout best if one has somebody on ground to always water the grass. The price may differ from place to place.

If I want them to just supply and plant the grass only, they charge N1,400 per sqm

I love green space, and have a compound littered with assorted fruit trees and flowers which now looks like a mini bush.

To avoid mosquitoes (My God! I dread that) I fumigate the compound every six months, otherwise 2weeks before getting home.

To wade of snakes, I have lemon grass planted everywhere especially, entrances by the gate, and into the house, along the fences. It would be dreadful to have your kids sight a snake inside their room or under a stair if we travel home simple because their Daddy loves living in a bush house.

Snake? Naaaa!!!!
But green area?, Yeeaah
Does lemon grass really wade of snakes?

The only advantage I know is low self consumption, but the disadvantage is that they do not have a good current surge protection.

But last last the choice is yours...
So, in this regard, a hybrid system is better?
I think someone posted earlier that even withe a hybrid you should still buy a CC because most of them are not mppt

Meanwhile, I want to start upgrading my system bit by bit to 100% solar. Do standalone inverters have any extra benefits than the hybrid types?

I am aware hybrids remove the need for CC. Does this come with a downside?
Thanks guys.

Remember I talked about having 4 12v 100ah and 1 200ah batteries that seem to have packed up?

Well, I added bought and added acid (from battey charger) to one of the 100ah batteries as a test but it still didn't charge. Eventually I gave this particular battery and the 200ah battery to a local battery charger for 3-4 days.

Now, the 200ah does not stop charging. It can charge for 7 hours straight nonstop. I am using a 40a Souer smart charger.

I think the battery I added acid to has gone bad since it can no longer hold any charge.

Any recommendations?

Thanks waiting, I'm trying to revive a dead 200ah battery, it wasn't taking charge before but started taking charge yesterday and has been charging since then till now. More than 12 hours and counting.
Bros. In trying to revive your battery, do you add distilled water inside?

I have 1 200ah fullriver battery that has been dead for over a year. And then 4 100ah GACIA batteries that have started packing up.

When I opened the 100ah batteries. They were all dried. I bought acid from a charger to put in one to test if it will work but my 40a suoer charger charges it for a bit and then stops. I have sent two of the batteries to the guy to charge for 2k.

What's your take on this?

In that case the client choice defined that situation..... Oga Hajj once commented that knowing Nigeria for what it is it's better to tile all walls for rest of mind, but that seem to be a general view about kitchen and bathroom in Nigeria. Yes, noted that majority of Nigerians doesn't have consistent maintenance culture attitude but it not really necessary if you understand how protective satin paint could be.
So, in terms of cost, which option is cheaper?

how many entrance doors do you have at the building. I will advise that you use iron doors for all the house. They are cheaper and more durable. Each door below costs #18,000 for the single and #28,000 for the double door
I passed a welder's shop and asked for the price of these doors (single). The criminal told me 220k and I'll supply the materials. I think he was drunk sha.

You need to know the numbers of watts for each items you want to use, these will guide experts in helping you to know the numbers of batteries and solar panel to use including the inverter. But be rest assured you can't use your iron and freezer on the solar system except you go by buying a solar freezer .
In general, I came up with a 12,000wh power requirement.

I looked at the solar freezer and it's basically a freezer with a panel, battery, and inverter. I'll settle for an inverter fridge or freezer instead.

Hello GeorgeD1, thanks for this thread. I spent all night reading from page one. How has your system been from day 1?

Using your calculations on page 1, I came up with a minimum of 12kwh as my energy requirement.

What's my best bet with a budget of 500k for a start? I can lower some of the load. Thanks.

I have a set-up for less than that amount but working with your 500k plan:

200AH X2 lead acid battery: 200k
Inverter hybrid 24v 2kva: 120k
Solar panel 380w X 3: 140k
Cable, battery lock, etc: 40k

Caveat: It certainly won't power all those stuff you've listed simultaneously. At the minimum you want to remove iron from the list
Thanks man. Everything is not being used at the same time. I already have a 4kva gen that carries most things in the house apart from AC. However, it will be unwise to depend solely on gen when there's no NEPA light in my new place.

my guy 500k go buy u one land for ibafo, or one mini bus as investment,
500k should do,and most importantly is to get good original batteries, mono solar panels, that money fit no reach o, cos if u buy original 2-3 200ah batteries, how much go remain for panel and charge controller....can't u just go for solar freezers and DC iron
I already have these items unless I'll have to sell them. I might consider the solar freezer if it is durable though.

Ceejay80s. First, I want to appreciate you for opening this thread and your efforts.

We did business over 3 years ago. You helped me to purchase my entire DIY unit comprising of UPS, 30amp smart charger, and a 200ah battery. I used that unit for about 2 years before the battery packed up.

Ceejay80s and to all the gurus in the house, I'll like to know what kind of setup 500k will give me.

Note: There's no electricity in the area I'll be relocating to. So, I'll be leaving 100% off grid until more people start living there.

What I intend to power. 1 deep freezer, 1 standing fridge freezer, 5 wall mounted fans, 2 LED TV sets, 1 1200w iron, and general LED house lighting.

Priority goes to my fridge, freezer and house lighting.

Please, I'll love experts in the house to help me. I'll also like to ask. I am yet to wire the house. Is there any need to do a separate wiring for solar and another for NEPA?

Thanks in advance.

Whether pvc, precast concrete or block type, they’re all inspection chamber and you’re definitely going to need one.

The only difference is you’re replacing the brick chambers with PVC.

Nothing more. The pipe network remains the same.
Thanks chief

Now I get it.

The pics below shows different types of inspection chambers.

The conventional method of using brick, cement and slab (Pic. 1) and then there’s the PVC inspection chamber (Pic. 2 & 4) and of course there’s precast manholes (Pic. 3) too.

If you ask a plumber why he’s using brick, his explanation will be “that’s how it’s done” or “it’s the best way.”

Now ask the same person what can the brick type of inspection chamber do that a PVC type can’t do.
Also considering the time, effort and the installation costs, a PVC inspection chamber is a cheaper alternative and lot more reliable option for modern builds.

It’s pretty easier to install PVC inspection chambers.

You don’t have to break slabs to inspect the chamber in case there’s blockage. You just need to open the lid and that’s it. No stress or sweat.
Chief, can you please explain how this chamberless system can be achieved. My site engineer is already talking about chambers for the building. Even the architect put chambers in the design.

If this I'd a cheaper and more reliable option, I'll definitely love to implement it.
