Yes, I live in Nigeria. Never travelled out as a matter of fact. However, education should make you think out of the box.
For me, it's all about functionality and cost. Is it cheaper? Is it better? Is it durable? Is it safe?
1. Plywood should work. With some sanding, you can achieve that fine look.
2. I intend to do a small text run with my kitchen or dinning before deciding on tiling or not. |

n3xt: For creative minds only, DIY concrete and wood countertop idea. Lovely. Over the next few months, I'll start buying my DIY tools. In-between, what's the mix ratio? Can our regular sand and cement mixture achieve this? |

To the gurus in the house... I have a few questions.
1. What's your take on concrete countertops as opposed to HDF, MDF, or marble.
2. Is concrete flooring/polishing a cheaper alternative to tiling?
For some context, once I am through with plastering, I am seriously considering a lot of DIY for the remaining part of the house, particularly cabinets, wardrobes, chairs, and flooring.

saint2ace: Use the Intelligent charge option as indicated. U can use it for batteries up to 400ah, either 4pcs of ur 100ah in parallel or 100ah x 2 in series (2 banks).
But be mindful, just like a dead person, the charger can't wake up a dead battery but can restore an ailing one. All the best.... Thanks man |

I have finally picked up the pulse repair charger from kie kie. I am hoping that it will be able to repair my 4 100amp batteries. Some quick questions for the gurus before me.
1. What settings should I use - I see lithium/common battery, manual/intelligent, and a knob.
2. Can I connect two batteries at a time in series?
I have hooked up one battery and the starting readings are 13.8v/2.4A. It's on intelligent charge and the knob is all the way to the left (counter-clockwise).

Quick update to the house. Over the last week, I picked up 6 used 200w solar panels from Valto. Deal went well.
I also purchased the 12v DC iron from justemmanuel. Deal also went well. The DC iron heats up just fine. Not enough to burn a cloth but a considerable alternative to using gen to iron.
Thanks to both of them |

TheGodlessGod: I'm going to 21 years, I've nothing, I can't even afford recharge card, I'm broke, I haven't bought a single clothes since this year and I've only 2 boxers which are bad.
If school finally resume maybe next year, I won't have clothes to wear, no money to rent house, everything is just going downhill.
All my friends are buying the lastest iphones, when I asked them how they make money or begged them to teach me, they won't reply.
I'm just tired of everything, motivation isn't there because I can think of something to change my situation.
I need advice please I'll have to break it to you sir. There's nothing anyone here can say or do to help you. So, your problem is to buy cloths and the latest iPhones? My friend you are not serious. First, who is funding your education? Are you independent? What were you doing or using to fund your education prior to this time (of you are independent)? Like someone said above, building wealth is a process. If you cannot discipline yourself to browse the internet and learn, once again sorry for you. Nobody is going to spoon feed you. There are so many threads here to help you. So, get to work. Good luck. |

michlins: as I have explained always, these doors can be used for interior and exterior needs. About the toilet aspect, I will suggest that you use these aluminum doors cause of the water splashes (no steel can survive caustic soda from soap no matter how strong it is. Just give it time and the water will ruin it) The doors can be customized as to your needs from the size of the frames which can be 5",6" or more. The doors sizes can be customized too. About the locks, it's dealers choice but I always tell people to buy at least the quality on the door in review cause the cost of replacing the locks always offset the little savings you're trying to make. The price of the door is 20,000 and 30,000 for the 3ft and 4ft respectively. Kindly contact me with the attached detail Chairman, you don get business card too? Please message me. |

bixton: At the bold I'll figure out a simple explanation without making it lengthy.
Average is 3 bags for that size of room. I think you should ask your engineer what mix ratio he intends to use. Better you be at the site to check the work methodology on the first day or keep a trusted eye.
I checked your profile and it reads Port Harcourt. PHC has 2 types of plastering sand-- gum and power form. The gum is mixed with soft sand(sharp sand), the other is used alone. If he intends to use only sharp sand(soft sand) probably it's not completely sharp meaning it does not have teeth enabling you to have a smooth surface after shining. Thanks. I get it now. I'll ask the bricklayer about his mix. And I estimated 5 bags per room (which I think is an overkill) but got 80 bags for interior and exterior. |

rotecch77: Let me just put it in a simple and straight manner That you will understand.
To get good well leveled wall with details supervision coupled with final good looking finishing wall Then ready to pay more. A lot of technical explanations on this. But that is what the guy means on the 1st quote
Second quote means regular average work. Thanks. It's clearer now. So the quotation is in order? |

spyder880: Well, there might be buildings where the owners are not interested in best practices and might want to cut construction costs as much as possible, he can employ some workers who won't use the modern tools to get the best of levels. Such jobs include walls of motor parks, low level rental units in low paying houses, etc. Thanks |
Properties › Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by JustCryptos: 6:34pm On Oct 11, 2020 |
bixton: Except I'm mistaken the term he ought to use is "guage plastering and range plastering".
Most people take quoted and end up doing the second one.
As to the number of bags of cement....if your already formed wall is not aligned you'll use more bags of cement to bring to level. The other one is the mix ratio he intends to use per room to give a satisfactory job. Thanks for your contribution @bolded, what's the difference? On average, how many bags of cement should be used for a 3.6*3.6 room? Also, I don't get the logic behind using sharp sand instead of plastering sand. |

Guys please, I need help.
The engineer on my project sent this as a quote for plastering a 3 bedroom flat (all ensuite) with a visitor's toilet.
Labour Ranging plastering Inside plastering is #120,000. Outside plastering is #90,000. Windows dressing is #45,000.
Not Ranging plastering To plaster all the houses is #170,000. Inside and outside. No window dressing.
Materials Two trips of gum sand and two trips trips of shape sand and 110 bags of cement.
When I asked the difference between the two, he said in the first one they'll dress the plaster and plum it to be level. This won't be done in the second case. I can't wrap my head around plastering a house and not making sure it's level.
Secondly, I thought plastering a room takes 3 bags of cement? I did my calculations with 4 bags to be on the safe side. However, the engineer is saying each room of around 3.6*3.6m will take 5 bags using ranging method.
Experts please what's your take on this? CnC n3xt, spyder880, saydfact, lastpage, rotecch77 |

If yes then I would advice you don't use it . It's the poorest quality of doors Can you share your insight on this? I was told 23k for these doors - American panel. This against PVC doors for the interior of the house, which do you recommend? Note: Na kobo kobo project. |

Pros and Cons of 0.5hp and 1hp Submersible Pump
1. Power Requirement: 0.5hp submersible pump will work even in situation where there’s low voltage. 1hp requires full current. You can also power 0.5hp pump with a medium size generators. If you try using same generator for 1hp pump, it might burn the pump.
2. Borehole Depth: 1hp submersible pump is an overkill where the borehole depth is not more than 20m. 0.5hp will work fine in most Lagos sites. But if your depth is over 50m or even more, you’ll require a bigger pump.
3. Usage
#personalopinion #notabibeli Thanks. Point 1. I am very power conscious since I plan to go 100% off-grid at my new location. Point 2. I am based in Rivers State. So, I believe the 50m should work. Point 3. In that case, 0.5hp does it for me. Thanks once again for the clarification. |

If yes, I should be able to calculate the area for you.
Secondly, you said its aluminium 0.55? Are you using Tower? If its imported aluminium, it is not up to 3,800 psm. Is it possible to calculate this with just the perimeter and height of king post? |
