Romance / Re: Single People How Do You Cope With Being Alone by Justpassing1: 8:57pm On Aug 07, 2021
Summary is you are young with a lot of time on your hands…

Books …read books.

Otherwise , note down any problem(s) you observe during your day and spend your free time thinking about solutions or ideas around creating a business opportunity - one of the best ways to create wealth.

Other things you might feel you are missing out on presently will generally come to you on their own …no be by force by fire.

Peace.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Three Regret Mails In One Day by Justpassing1: 2:05pm On Jul 12, 2019
Young blood.....keep pushing it.

I have over 800 ( Eight Hundy ) regret emails before I finally got a job. I kept these to show my siblings when they get depressed during job hunting ...the 800 were within 4 months...

Take note of , and do , the following ;

- Till you get your job..you have no other business on the internet besides searching job boards and applying for roles.

- For most multinationals ..first stage screening is done by a robot. Before uploading your CV , you need to tailor it such that all keywords in the job description are on your CV. Don’t just develop a general CV and throw at every job.

- You need interview experience. Apply and interview for jobs / companies you know you wouldn’t even want to work for...wether na egg dem dey pack there o ..or Na car wash ..as far as dem advertise vacancy ..throw your CV..after attending a few “yeye” interviews , you would be less nervous when THE INTERVIEW comes...I was so confident at the interview that finally got me a job that I wasn’t worried sharing 2 to 3 big stouts with one of my useless paddies before the interview.

- Do some research about any company interviewing you. Products ..Services...Competition..previous year financials..etc

- Don’t limit yourself geographically...and I don’t mean Nigeria..the world has really gone smaller..one of my mumu guys for Ilorin throw CV to Multinational wey dey UK ..dem fly am go interview for Ghana..before you know he was in the UK with the firm..no foreign masters ..nothing ..2-2 from Ilorin village

- You get a regret email ?... look at what you might have missed /done wrong and reapply immediately if possible. Those days I would be on my computer applying ..regret email notification comes in..I yinmu..finish the one I dey do..go to that regret email and reapply ...their daddy !!

Kids , IVF might assist in getting preggy ..however , the real miracle which concerns us is giving birth to a baby (a healthy one at that)..

I'm no church person but it really gets to me when folk start running mouth about IVF or no IVF....We know it's IVF but we don't give a bloody gaddem hoot. .God has blessed them with the miracle of life.

If only you knew how many IVF's fail + how many successful IVF's get miscarried...

Pray you don't go through this....

Congratulations.

But people should be honest. These so called miracles are from assisted reproduction that more centres now offer in 9ja and more affordable now than 10 years ago.

That is why I respect a pastor friend who used assisted reproduction to have his twins and openly told everyone about it.

It encourages people to seek help on time.

IVF / Assisted Reproduction MIGHT get you pregnant ..It however does not guarantee a baby. Millions of people try IVF without even getting pregnant.

That being said , a tiny+invisible Zygote growing into a baby with 2 eyes , 10 toes and 10 fingers is a MIRACLE.

Once a woman gets pregnant there is nothing any Doctor can do to guarantee she will have the baby.

Hope u learnt a thing or two...God Bless and may you never experience delayed childbirth.

Business / Re: New Tricks Used By Filling Station's Pump Attendant by Justpassing1: 1:11pm On Oct 17, 2013
I have had these type of experiences since the late nineties.....but as dem talk "once beaten......".

There is no need arguing / trying to play smart immediately when you figure out the attendant wants to play a fast one.......relax and use it to your own advantage.

My last experience - I was travelling and my tank was at 3/4 Level. Not knowing when next I would hit a "decent" fuel station , I decided to fill up at the next TOTAL station. Take note that my car gets filled up from Empty to Full Tank for about =N=7,500 or thereabouts. So at this instance , all I needed for a full tank was about =N=1800 to =N=2000 MAX!

I got down from the car and asked the attendant to fill the tank ( though I noticed the meter was unwiped with some =N=3,700 sold to the last customer. I left the guy to pump the fuel and went inside their shop to get a drink whistling wickedly in my mind )

Na so I return , the guy don fill the tank tell me say my money na =N=5,600 (LMAO!). I gave him one very dirty =N=1000 note that I had been trying to spend for a long time, got into my car and started the engine. Na when hin wan argue I tell am say I wan see hin manager......he couldn't say a word.

Moral of my long story - I buy =N=1900 fuel for =N=1000.

If you send in your CV / Resume as a Word document , please correct all spellings & punctuations so that there are no red and green lines all over the place.

I personally will not take my time to look through an unedited CV.

Very nice write-up.

Mazi :I'm not sure what you do for a living , but believe me - you got talent.Try as much as you can to clean / soften the sex scenes a bit and write a book and/or open up a blog so you can gain acceptance/support/sponsorship in the more corporate world. I see you going somewhere with this. One can easily relate with the stories. It's the same concept that has changed the fortunes of Nigerian Hip-Hop Artistes these days - one can easily relate to flavor singing "Ada Ada" than to Usher singing some western crap. Unfortunatley , Nigeria doesn't have a lot of young people with talent anymore because the society doesn't provide an atmosphere that allows self discovery or maybe it's just because we are all after quick cash.

The stories made me smile , laugh and cry - The ugly guy/weird guy scenario is similar to how myself and my best friend set it off back then in University. We were room mates in 100L , mutually disliked each other when we first met but eventually realised we were two of a kind as we both liked beer, parties and women. We also came from the same strict background requiring us to make a minimum of 2:1 on graduation or get disowned . :-) We had similar codes and could actually speak to ourselves with no one listening able to decipher what we were on about.

We lost him to Indian Hemp not too long ago :-( . I do not think I can have a better friend.

Feed a dog - It will protect and remain loyal to you till its day of death.

Take a human being out of the streets ,feed him , give him a job , give him money , send his kids to school , give him everything - he will still , one day , bite your fingers.

Career / Re: Blue-collar Job In The UK Or White-collar Job In Nigeria? by Justpassing1: 8:10pm On Oct 11, 2012
Summary Advice : If you have never LIVED ( not VISITED) the UK/US/Oyinbo Land before and you are killing yourself to migrate , there is nothing special there. I personally think it's for those who have made up their minds to live a quiet, peaceful, uneventful lifr and quietly die there afterwards. If you plan on going and then coming back to Naija to "establish" therrafter , you are wasting your time. Best you can get is a good education and some exposure.

For students , try as much as possible to get a job in naija while studying - my personal opinion.

Interesting discussion here though.....been weighing my options for a few weeks now.

Cyberknight:

Point noted, mate. Well explaned. such a transaction can obviosuly take place in the UK or anywhere elese in the world. Relating it to Naija was a rtad superfluous then?

It is more likely , though not impossible , to have the required Info/Authority/Connection & Network at home ( Naija ) than in any other part of the world.
Career / Re: Blue-collar Job In The UK Or White-collar Job In Nigeria? by Justpassing1: 2:03pm On Oct 11, 2012
@Cybernight : A "deal" is 1.An agreement entered into by two or more parties for their mutual benefit, esp. in a business or political context - it does not have to involve fraud as I seem to have interpreted your comment. e.g You have info / authority etc required by 3rd parties...you sit at a table in a bar , talk things out ...parties execute "deal" clean and legally and pay you "homage" thereafter.

Your insight is appreciated as well though. At the end of the day , one might have to say both sides are the same. It is an individual preference based on choice and what each individual wants out of life.
Career / Re: Blue-collar Job In The UK Or White-collar Job In Nigeria? by Justpassing1: 11:58am On Oct 11, 2012
Naija Vs UK......it's really a tough one.

Based on personal experience ( I relocated from the UK about 2yrs ago )

Living in the UK :
Monetary Aspect:
Started off as a Graduate Engineer earning 28000/Annum ( This was relatively high as it was a multinational. Regular Engineering Grad Jobs/Coys would pay between 20 - 25K/Annum back then.
After tax/month , take home = 1900
Monthly Expenses ( Accomodation/Feeding/Transport/Mobile/Land Line + Internet/TV License/Clothes/Light entertainment) = 1300
Unforseen Expenses ( Parents, siblings, etc in Naija..... This might not be applicable based on parent/family financial status = 300
Total Monthly Expense = 1600 => Savings was 300pounds ( In actual fact I dont think i ever had up to that to save per month )

General Life ( +ves and -ves ) :
Same bus at same time every morning and evening containing same set of people with earphones staring at you. You start feeling like a robot after some time.
Light / Internet / Phone => Constant 24/7
That 1900 monthly income stated above is CONSTANT , no additional 1Pound will never come into your account from any other source in any month.
Time is money i.e You dont get to socialise a lot...many of your naija friends are on the hustle 24/7 - forget facebook pictures , na lie. After a while , if you are single you get very lonely unless you dey find oyinbo companionship. I personally did not like thier company.
You are not respected in the society - I got an education to be a respectable person.
You can move around at any time of the day and feel safe.
You and your next door neighbour might never talk to each other. ( A woman living in a flat next to mine died and I never knew till after 6months when my Landlady told me )
Thump your feet too hard while walking around your flat / play small loud music / TV => Neighbour complains or calls Police.
You eat well , smell and look fresh.
You can shop for virtually everything online and have same delivered to your doorstep + ATM Never "Swallows" your card.
Easy access to other European countries for holiday visits.
You will never build a house , you go pay mortgage for 2bedroom flat for the rest of your life.
Miracles dont happen ! Everything you earn is worked for except you wan turn criminal.
PEACE OF MIND

Living in Naija
Monetary Aspect : If I compare my present salary to what I would have been earning in the UK now ; I would say I save reasonably but not as much as I thought I would when I made up my mind to come back home. Having lived in the UK , one ends up spending more to maintain same living standards which one has been used to back there.

General Life ( +ves & -ves ):
Social life is great => Friends/family close by....weddings and things on saturdays , boys get your time on Fridays , etc
You need to have a generator + pay someone to switch on and off
You need security dogs => dem barking no dey gree person sleep for night...dem food na die
Folk wanna tax you at every instance.... u end up not picking calls from some numbers
Everyday is different => u fit see okada man dey fight bus driver on your way to work today , another scenario tomorrow
Some change dey enter pocket apart from salary
Spacious house + compound
Anything can happen ! ( deal dey show from nowhere )
You are respected in the society
Food is great
You can acquire land and build a house to your taste.
Your must buy and maintain a solid car because of road conditions and zero transport system.
NO PEACE OF MIND - BH/ALUU/POLICE/THIEF/VILLAGE PEOPLE etc

Personally for me , I think of running back sometimes. Nothing beats PEACE OF MIND.

Career / Re: Which Areas Are The Best For Young Graduates To Do Masters In Nigeria? by Justpassing1: 12:27pm On Aug 07, 2012
A Masters degree ( foreign or owambe ) guarantees nothing. Simple tips for Nigerian Undergraduates ;

1. Read daily : Not just the outdated notes spoon-fed to you by the clueless lecturers. Carry out extensive personal reasearch on the internet w.r.t your chosen field/subject. Buy and read additional books relating to your subject including other books written on topics like Leadership , Entrepreneurship , etc. Have this habit of reading daily and I GUARANTEE you that while your peers are burning the unneccessary midnight oil during exams you would either be sleeping , chasing girls(or boys) , drinking beer or coaching your classmates... AND still come out with top grades - GUARANTEED!!.

2. Gather the little experience you can : Back in the day , we were given the oppurtunity to complete a total of 11months internship within a 5yr Engineering Degree Program. I want to believe this is still the case. As an intern ( even if you find yourself in an Auto Repair Shop by the roadside ) give it all your time and atttention , learn all you can , ask questions from your Supervisor. If your university happens to go on strike....go and work for free in an appropriate place.

Your CV should come to life after your first internship so that you do not forget your previous accomplishments at the time of graduation. Keep working on your CV throughout your undergraduate years. Carry out a real and unique final year project ( do not copy and paste someone elses project who wrote the same topic in another university or in a previous year ). Highlight the project on your CV as well. Try as much as possible to spend your 1yr NYSC in a relevant role. In summary , on completion of NYSC you should have a standard CV which any employer looking to hire Entry Level employees would be interested in. I have gone through a number of Nigerian Graduate CV's which have absolutely no content.....maybe "name" "DoB" and "Sex".

I GUARANTEE you will not spend too much time on the streets before getting a decent job in your chosen field. Forget about knowing someone in-house.......a number of organisations still hire strictly on merit. I was recently part of a panel interviewing Grads for an Engineering Graduate Program. Even though I was able to refer a cousin of mine for the interview , he was not hired. Truth be said - the dude came across as EMPTY. We had other Nigerian candidates with foreign MSc degrees and all.....we still did not hire any of them as they were ALL EMPTY. The guys employed were local candidates without Masters Degrees who knew , and most importantly could defend , their onions.....they were selected based on consensus amongst all 8 of us within the panel ( none of us within the panel were buddies at the time as we work in different roles in different locations so there was no way we could have helped any of the candidates ).......I could not have voted for my cousin as I would have been looked on by other members of the Panel as DAFT as well.

However , if you do not for any reason get your dream job in your dream organisation , I once again GUARANTEE that following the simple rules highlighted above , you would have enough "upstairs" to start up a successful venture of your own.

Cheers
