Anybody in Nigeria not visiting his village will have visits from his relatives regularly. We can easily send garri, yam and native fowls for them. Tell me if it will be easy to pay DHL for same package to the US.
If you cannot send goodies from abroad, we have to judge you harshly because you are not perfoming your own share of family work. Its better you return and be weeding your mumsie's cassava farm or replacing your dad in his suya hawking business under the flyover!
Yea send some goodis to some grumpy uncles who never saw anything good in u but the moment u left Nigeria he start checking exchange rate for u, telling u stories about how he bought u rainbow pant when u were 1yr old.

Not only goodis, u will get microwave from abroad, greedy things
There you o again with your 'many Nigerians abroad' quotes. I ask again, what of those we have not heard from in 15 years since they travelled? Some have even changed their names and are peeping from far away lands and waiting for their dads to die so they can come home to divide his properties.
If that is your idea of a great relationship then rant on.
There is no doubt that there are many Nigerians who travelled out and things turned out badly , but there are those who made it as well.
There are many Nigerians in Nigeria who left their villages to lagos or Abuja and things never turn out the way they planned and going back to the village becomes a nightmare, they spend yrs on and never visit. There is no smooth ride anywhere in life.

Wht i don't understand about some of you moaning about Nigerians abroad not sending gold and silver home everyday is by whos standard are you judging them? Yours or God?

Things are bad both in Nigeria and abroad, there is no heaven here, i never claim in any of my post that leaving outside Nigeria is the best thing ever, i just don't like it when pple start this home vs abroad bashing.

It is a life of pity. Some want to go home, but no papers, no money for ticket, no where to start, just living from hand to mouth. you can say all you want, but when reality bites you in the anu.s, thats when you will know there is nothing big deal about living abroad, absolutely nothing. Dont come here to hoodwink us about how life abroad is sweet and rosy. Yeah right, or how you are a Nigerian American or British Nigerian. Who cares about your nationality? We agree, you can live anywhere you want, but to come here and start making mouth about how things are bad in Nigeria as if you live in paradise. Hell no.
Calm down!!! why are sounding so bitter? Why do you care so much about how pple live their lives outside Nigeria? If life is heaven in Nigeria then gr8!! enjoy it and let those abroad suffer, wash plate to survive.
^ yea elderly people tend to be more mixed about it. they are more likely to say that they regret moving abroad (at least partially).
it think it also depends on the age of the emigree. If you came to the US/UK early in life you might have less regrets than someone who came at a later age.
so the factors that affect it, in my opinion, are:
1)the age of person at time of immigration. the older you were the less opportunities you may feel are available to you abroad.
2) length of time abroad. the longer u've been abroad, the more disenchanted you may become and start thinking of coming back home.
3) position in Naija. If you were rich in naija, it may be better to stay home. That's why politicians and big business men only go abroad for summers and vacations even though many have the option of staying abroad permanently. 4) success abroad. obviously if you have achieved your dream abroad, then you probably want to remain there.
Have to agree with u there, if pple are doing well in Nigeria then leaving Nigeria permanently makes no sense.
Many left Nigeria cos things are not working out and they want to explore other avenues outside Nigeria.

seeking to know our divine destiny and where it lies should be the motivation and therefore reason we seek to leave our home countries. unfortunately, the majority of people, nigerians in particular are motivated by the need for 'making it' and comfort as their reasons for moving abroad. while there is nothing wrong with this, it is painful to watch when so many of us then look back on our lives abroad to see that the only thing we have to show for all the years there are the material status symbols of our westernised lives - and nothing with eternal value that can really give us a sense of satisfaction or sense of having been a real blessing to many. this lack of fulfillment of our individual divine destinies is what really lies behind questions such as 'do you regret moving abroad'.God has made us africans - indeed, nigerians, for a reason. whether we choose to leave or stay should only be part of the bigger quest to find out what are God's plans for our individual lives are.remember, the Book says, "what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world, yet loses his own soul( i.e his very identity)?
I really don't understand the point u are trying to make here. Does it mean that i can't fulfill my destiny outside Nigeria? How does leaving Nigeria to another country equate to waste of time or even sin aganist Nigeria?

@ justwise
come to think of it, if I leave like every other person, who get's to change it. I'm sure we all know that Rome was not built in a day. Europe, America, Asia all have their stories to tellmake we no dey fight ourself, but try to see how we can rebuild this country whether we live in it or abroad. see what's happening in china and other asian countries recently, who believed it could be so. The Chinese believed so much in themselves, in spite of all odds.we shouldn't turn this community to one where we speak evil of our own country.
I'm not speaking evil about Nigeria, the point is, not everybody will move back to Nigeria to help build Nigeria, some pple can still help from outside Nigeria. I may move back oneday or i may decide to stay here and visit as often as i can, its all individual choices.
There are Chinese communities here, many i know have established homes here, some never went home for ages that doesn't stop China from developing. We can not pretend that we don't have problems in Nigeria like every other country and one should not be hanged for speaking out.
