willybaby: a good partner you say, have we ever been disgraced and shamed as a nation while trying to buy arms and equipment from Russia or China, with the USA we usually make headlines and always for the wrong reasons, the Tucano deal comes to mind, 6 years of begging and insults even with our money International politics is not done with sentiments. If you don't want insults, build your own shipbuilding / defence industry. |

willybaby: excess defence article again, that's how we received ships (NNS THUNDER and CENTENARY) after enough boy boy to the USA, ships that were totally stripped of all offensive and defensive capabilities with only canons left, cannons that I have not even seen the NN fire even in training, also two alpha jets we were able to get was so stripped it seems we had to repaint it our self's, kudos to NAF who were able to retrofit and upgrade the jets to be able to carry dumb bombs and shot Rockets..
Sorry if am not estatic, has the USA been a good military partner to us the answer is NO... You are wrong. we received NNS Thunder and NNS Okpabana from America. Both ships were never seriously armed even in American service. They are both Coast Guard Cutters. Long Endurance patrol ships, the kind of ships we seriously needed at as the time they were transferred to us. Let me also tell you, before those ships were gifted to Nigeria, the Nigerian navy did not have one single Ocean going Ship in active service. Not 1!!! So while you moan, remember that. Also many countries around the world, including big European countries like Turkey are beneficiaries of second hand Ships from the US. Even in Africa, Egypt has received many second hand frigates from America in the past. The US has been a good military partner to Nigeria. Look at the number of joint military exercises each year. |

rka1: You won't get any argument from me as I agree. I think the navy just wants the hull of vessels and then up-arm them. They even do that with the new Ocea boats from France. The Ocea boats from france are armed. I have not seen anywhere in the world where a research/scientific ship is armed with more than a cannon at most. It's quite ridiculous that some of you experienced defence contributors are making these sorts of complaints about the armament on NNS Lana. |

shadowprimezero: First time seeing the SANDF with an AK...... First time seeing an AK with an M-203 grenade launcher. Also, I wonder why none of the guns have optics, most of the R-4's I've seen in SOF hands all have them. I have hardly seen South-African special forces on deployment using optics on their rifles. It is very rare, probably a cost factor.
