If you're wondering how the American pilots would fly back to America, this Donier support aircraft escorted the Super Tucanos all the way from Florida to Nigeria.

And we need another Air Force base in Borno. Why do you think we need 24 UCAVs? |

Following the successful delivery of this batch of Tucanos, what next for the Nigerian Air Force?
The Air Force were recently giving nearly 1 billion dollars in additional funding, different from the initial funding in 2021 budget.
This additional fund goes specifically to capital projects, no salaries.
What are we to expect?
Alpha Jets need to be replaced
Additional attack helicopters are required
Additional MI-17 helicopters are needed.
Light and medium tactical transport aircrafts also needed.
A minimum squadron of modern 4th Gen fighter jets are also needed.
So what would it be for NAF?? |

Nemesis4you: Just for the sake of discussion
Let's try to list very few of 5th gen characteristics
1. Stealth shaping cheap enough but that would require high cost composites , exotic materials/alloys , RAM / RAS , FSS materials which are expensive
2. Fly by light is a hallmark of 5 th gen aircrafts , which again required state of the art materials and technologies , very expensive to be bulk produced as they are niche products , developing them itself is very expensive
Only these 2 factors will push the aircrafts costs beyond 20 million let's not even talk about the avionics radars electro optical devices etc
My personal estimate 60-90 million depending on the capabilities being provided as per budget
Also russian aircrafts base price is low but overall life cycle cost is very high . Lets see if they are able to address this I think the onus is on the design bureau to walk the talk. Let's see if and when the aircraft is launched, how far they would deviate from this original price. My personal estimate would be 45 - 50 million as the tech would be more readily available in the coming decade. No high development cost is envisaged and market availability. |

Nemesis4you: Not true perse , components level importation still exists eg bolometers for IR devices etc
Maybe over the years they will localise it eventually I was referring to major components. Example engines for Project 22350 frigates which used to be imported from Ukraine have been substituted. Generally bottlenecks capable of halting development of military systems have been removed. |

RiceProducers: Obviously you are not an engineer. Where does that happen?. I am saying they are going to have to build the 100% local content from scratch meaning I already know it is a possibility but it will take time for a new type of aircraft. To make matters more interesting, this is also supposed to be low cost as in, use existing components as much as possible. Where does that happen in less than 5 years If you followed the launch, you really won't be making these comments. |

ugo4u: This is a flight sim for Typerating and it was just installed recently. You said their are multiple private training and MRO facilities in the country, Oga please name them. We have MROs and yet our airlines fly abroad to do C-check and other maintenance abroad, it's even last year or so Air peace began talks of building an MRO facility in Asaba. Like I said earlier name one privately run aviation school in Nigeria do you think it's child play going into this heavily regulated sector?. We were talking about training of personnel which you quoted below. I said as far as training goes I could provide a list of training facilities in Nigeria. I've done that. Anything outside of this is a deviation. ugo4u: This must be a joke I guess. Till tomorrow we still send personnels to Southafrica for flight training. When it comes to aviation the Southafricans are the best both in civil and military aviation in Africa. They're even into Aircraft manufacturing . |

ugo4u: Lol! My guy na my constituency be this o! You see aviation in Africa leave it for the Southafricans. With an SCAA license you can fly in the US(though conversion to FAA might be mandated), infact it's harder to get an SCAA . Some more for our viewing pleasure

With an SCAA license you can fly in the US(though conversion to FAA might be mandated), infact it's harder to get an SCAA license than the FAA license. Nigeria no doubt have capable personnels but we don't have the structures/organisation on ground or if I'm to be a bit harsh individually we're very good but collectively as a group we're almost useless and this is in all facet of administration in the country. Go to NCAT Zaria and see how things are been done anyhow, infact the helicopter flight school established in Enugu by Arthur Eze and managed by NAF have been grounded after only about 7yrs or so of operation. 70% of instructors (Military Pilots) at International helicopter flying school Enugu hold Southafrican flying license. You're talking about only government institutions. There are multiple private training and MRO facilities in the country.

I can also send you a list of military pilots that come to Nigeria for training. South Africa has an advanced military industry, but they still depend heavily on importation of military components and systems. As far as militaries in Africa go, Egypt , Algeria and Morocco are ahead. South Africa and Nigeria are regional heavy weights. Our militaries are structured differently. South Africa is not ahead of Nigeria. |

RiceProducers: I disagree with your suggestion on the JF13 specifically forbthe Block 3 (even though I agree Block 2 may be too transitory in terms of capability versus value for money
We may need 3/9 ratio for the M346 - LIFT/Fighter Attack.
The SU 75 is not happening. Russia would not be developing that aircraft in the next ten years.
I agree we should consider increase Super Tucano fleet in 3s and 4s over the next four years. The aircraft has other civillian nation building applications aside from its potent internal security uses. We cannot talk about the Block 3 because the specs of the aircraft are not publicly available. So you cannot say what is good and what is not. On LIFT, we currently have aircrafts that are in dire need of replacements, Nigeria has sucked the life out of the Alpha jet and L-39 and we need them replaced. The M346FA is a purely light attack jet, not a LIFT aircraft, I don't see why we should get the FA if we need a light attack jet we should just stick with the JF-17. Unless you provide verifiable evidence your comments on the SU-75 is simply hogwash. |
