Faithful007: They can successfully invade Nigeria with those weapons and install a Taliban government .
But on a serious note. This guys might be looking to Africa next. Let nobody ever downplay the efforts of the Nigerian military in fighting terrorism. Our guys have done well giving the circumstances we've found ourselves, especially the Nigerian Air Force. The Nigerian army is better armed, better prepared today, more than ever to deal with a Taliban style situation. Terrorists in Nigeria having any "bright ideas" better need to think through whatever actions they plan on taking. |

tutudesz: Biden should've cancelled that deal. so many security minds kicked against a full withdrawal of troops after Trump deal. My only concern is that terrorists around the world would become very emboldened by this American show of cowardice. The government in Nigeria needs to watch ISWAP & the current mass surrender of Boko Haram terrorists carefully. These might be sleeper cells trying to infiltrate Nigerian cities to cause havoc. |

SuperSixSeven: Trump hold peace talks with the Taliban in Doha and signd an agreement to withdraw in May(!). This became a lost case when 350.000 Afghan security forces showed zero will to fight 60.000 Taliban. How much more support did they deserve? What Afghanistan needed was a permanent American presence on the ground, similar to what is obtainable in Japan, South-Korea & Germany. While continuing dialogue. |

Faithful007: I believe it's clandestine support for Taliban along with growing hate and loss of support for the US.
Russia and China are trying to domesticate and legitimize the Taliban, just because of power struggle. But the Taliban will continue to be like a wild animal. I hope it affects them if the Taliban take over that country.
Also they seem to have a lot of mild support across players in the Middle East who are tired of US presence. US has more stronghold over the Afghan government than Iraq, so a regime change would cut down their influence in the Middle East region. Thank you Sir for this answer. However, Trump spent only 4 years in power, we are talking about a problem that is 20 years in the making. Even if we account for the 4 years, what about the rest 16 years? How do you explain that America spent 88 billion dollars over 20 years in training alone, yet the full army collapsed in one month. It burgles the mind. |

My questions is how did Pak do all these and not only did they get away from it, they also got billions of dollars in US funding, have not been blacklisted and have good diplomatic relations with the western countries that were affected by their actions. Pak must be very important to the West or at least have a great leverage against them to have pulled a stunt like that and get away with it. This is a good question I'll also love answered. |

SuperSixSeven: One more this has to be said: The US strategy of nation building failed but any country who recognized this Jihadists is a traitor and cannot be a friend of Nigeria. And yes, i am looking at Russia, China and Pakistan here. We should watch their body language closely now. I don't get this, these countries are right on the border with Afghanistan, they have the right to protect their own citizens no matter what. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by kabe1: 11:00pm On Aug 13, 2021 |
SuperSixSeven: I as far as i understand the US strategy they were expecting the Afghan army will hold a stalemate and the government will then broker a peace deal with the Taliban and form a new government. But it seems the withdrawal of NATO Troops was such a shock that the government and including all institutions (including army, police and civil services) collapsed within 2 weeks. The Taliban's diplomacy missions to China and Russia gave them an extra big boost.
It will be over soon. If you look at the amount of funds invested in the Afghan military over the past 20 years, you also add the billions in US military & contractor spending, claims & claims of killings of Taliban fighters in airstrikes it's just incredible that the Taliban can take over the country in 1 month. I don't understand it, anyone with better information, I'm more than willing to listen. |

How does the US spend 20 years fighting in Afghanistan, only to have the Taliban take over the country in 1 month?
This is a military disaster of enormous proportion no one is talking about.
Why blame Afghanistan, who were the US really bombing in that country? |

Odunayaw: I'm hoping the NN don't intend to go ahead with that "flagship" — 1 frigate nonsense. I'd pick twin corvettes over 1 frigate any day I agree with this. Two corvettes would be far better, 3 would be ideal. There are many options we can pick from, Turkey is building excellent ships, Netherlands is there, Russia too, but for the sake of streamlining logistics, I would prefer a Chinese Corvette. Proper Type-056 corvettes to complement the OPVs. We really don't need any additional patrollers, especially when we take into account SDB 3 & possibly 4, the 2 special mission ships from NIMASA & 2 40 meters damen vessels in Vietnam. |
