Africa Intelligence is still running with this story despite the denials from Leonardo Pakistani option has Italy scrambling to defend sale of Leonardo combat aircraft The Italian government has embarked on a diplomatic campaign to strengthen military cooperation with Abuja as a means to lock in the sale of 24 combat aircraft to the Nigerian Air Force. But it is facing a circumspect air force command and competition from Pakistan. https://www.africaintelligence.com/central-and-west-africa_business/2021/08/19/pakistani-option-has-italy-scrambling-to-defend-sale-of-leonardo-combat-aircraft,109685910-art

kabe1:The Chief of Naval Staff mentioned a couple other acquisitions in his speech at IMDEC in Ghana. Apart from the Damen boats purchased from Vietnam, we are getting Fast Attack Crafts & OPVs NNS Kano & NNS Ikenne

Lurker4Long:This is what is obtainable in the Nigerian Navy, don't know what @riceproducers is arguing over. |
Hennynitan:It's hard to say if it's the same. However contractor patrol vessels do not bear a Nigerian navy pennant. |
RiceProducers:The statement from the Nigerian Navy is clear, 2 x FBS, designation/name of a vessel differs from country to country. A contractor owned vessel would not have the pennant of the Nigerian Navy. Both vessels from Vietnam and are named NNS Kano and NNS Ikenne. Show me the budget item no where the procurement of 12 x Super Tucanos fro. America is detailed? You need to show proof your claim. |
RiceProducers:You have a habit of arguing pointlessly without any evidence. Nigerian Navy expecting more platforms before end of 2020Published 2 years ago on December 18, 2019 The Nigerian Navy says it is expecting the delivery of more platforms before the end of 2020 to join her fleet to further boost the Services’ maritime security operations. Rear Admiral Tariworio Dick, the Chief of Training and Operations, Naval Headquarters, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja, while giving the Nigerian Navy score card for 2019. He explained that the Service was expecting these platforms from various manufacturers from within and outside the country. “In 2019 the Nigerian Navy acquired some platform to boost her maritime security operations among which are 20 x Riverine Patrol Boats, 20 x Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) and 2 x 25 Man House Boats,” he said. Dick listed the platforms expected to join the Services’ fleet in 2020 to include, 1 x 60m Hydrographic Survey Ship from Ocea France, 2 x 40m FPBs from Damen Shipyard Vietnam, and 1 x 43m SDB III from Naval Dockyard Limited Lagos. https://newsverge.com/2019/12/18/maritime-security-nigerian-navy-expecting-more-platforms-before-end-of-2020/ |
RiceProducers:Can you post any sort of evidence to support this? |

shadowprimezero:I knew the visits were quite unusual. They all visited Navy headquarters to drop tender documents. |
dragon2:The navy said after SDB 3, SDB 4 would be started though. However i agree that we need capacity to build these patrol ship's locally. |
bidexiii:It's good news that we are buying new ships no doubt, but like you i wonder why we keep buying Offshore Patrol Vessels, especially considering that we already have a large patrol fleet. I was thinking that with the purchase of the LST, installation of Falcon Eye, Nimasa C4i systems and the new patrol ships from Nimasa, our OPV buying days would be over. It's incredible, how many patrol ships do we want to really own at the end of the day. |
Toju200:Yet another patrol boat? We really need proper fighting ships, we just keep piling on the patrollers left right & center. |
willybaby:I agree. |
kabe1:We can as well kiss this day-dreaming good bye ![]() |
BREAKING NEWS Nigerian Navy would purchase 2 x additional OPVs Worthy of note is the support from Mr President and Commander-in-Chief. Specifically, Mr President has shown tremendous support for our fleet recapitalization effort. Recall, the recent acquisition of NNS LANA, again contract has been awarded for a sister ship to NNS LANA which is the 35m Hydrographic Survey Ship. Also, construction work is ongoing on the LST-100 and we have just received yet another approval for the acquisition of 2 x OPVs. https://www.navy.mil.ng/2021/08/16/remarks-by-the-chief-of-the-naval-staff-vice-admiral-az-gambo-am-psc-ensprsa-mtm-mnim-musni-fces-mipm-mesp-fiips-fcai-at-the-dinner-run-ashore-in-honour-of-the-nigerian-navy-graduands-of-the-nation/

Coolliot:I agree with this. my own assessment is that getting a frigate might not be the best purchase for Nigeria, as speculation is rife that we're getting only a single unit. For me i would prefer we hold on, instead purchase 2 Corvettes. That would make more sense in my opinion. Of-course China & Germany would be the most likely suppliers for a Nigerian frigate for obvious reasons, but we'll still have to wait and see. |

jteku:This is hard to watch. 3 people plunged to their deaths in a separate video I saw. |
shadowprimezero:I think there's an ongoing competition, we've seen Turkish and Indian ambassadors visit CNS in recent days. Also Turkey & India participated in the LST RFI, but both nations lost out to Holland. With the Navy getting an LST, possibly 2 units, it is almost guaranteed that they would be getting a Frigate or Corvette too. 3 units of the Milgem would be ideal. |
