Exnavyboy62:The American deal for AH-1Z Viper helicopters is done and dusted. We are getting the Vipers definitely. As far as the ATAK from TAI goes, I'm still not sure, infact I'm not sure of any AH for Nigeria, until we see them in Nigeria. As far as the ATAK goes, it is easy for the Americans to scuttle any sale to Nigeria, ask Pakistan. The advantage the ATAK gives Nigeria is the allowance to use the helicopters anywhere we like without restrictions. |
MAN1960:Not military, that's a police armoured vehicle. |
kabe1:Statement from DHQ | Troops of 7 Guards Battalion and 167 Special Force Battalion in conjunction with the air component of Operation WHIRL PUNCH conducted a clearance patrol around Bwari general area between 24 – 26 July 2022. Troops successfully cleared Kawu and Ido villages. Consequently, about 30 terrorists were neutralized and their enclave and hideout were destroyed. Ground troops also recovered 6 x motorcycles, 2 x AK47 rifles, 1 x fully loaded LMG magazine amongst others during mop up. |
Lurker4Long:Kuje prison is in Abuja, the outskirts of the city. 60 Boko-Haram Terrorists were imprisoned there, all of them fled. A number of them have been recaptured, however a good number of them are still at large, majority actually. Worrying developments ........ Are you serious!!!! That's the understatement of the year that has had Russia invade Ukraine. We are looking at a very precarious situation in the country, not just Abuja. |
Lurker4Long:Before there's a mis communication. The Presidential Guards is a branch of the Nigerian army in charge of security in Abuja, parts of Niger state and parts of Nassarawa state. The Attack happened in Bwari(Bwari is on the outskirts of Abuja), the intended target was the Nigerian Law school in Bwari. A Nigerian army patrol came under attack, however the attack was repelled, although the army lost 3 soldiers. I think the security situation around Abuja is about the seriously deteriorate, except the security agencies launch an operation to nip this in the bud. You don't have to be a security expert to see this coming. |

kabe1:While the T-129 ATAK is an excellent helicopter, I don't think this helicopter is what Nigeria needs right now. If we are looking at the purchase strictly through political lenses, it makes sense, especially seeing that the AH-1Z would have operational restrictions, it probably makes sense to purchase another type in limited quantities. However, how does the Nigerian Air Force plan to maintain the MI-35M, AH-1Z and T-129 ATAK helicopters? |
