NTSA: There are also reports that Putin is preparing for a long war ...either way the myth of Russian military superiority is long dead.
I don't think Russian military superiority is dead, I think the Russians would need to reorganize, and invest in ISR capabilities, UAS and UCAVs.
Compared to the Russian invasion of Georgia, the Russians are better armed and prepared, however the Ukrainians, unlike the Georgians, have had 8 years to fortify their defences, and the quality of their personnel.
From an African perspective, the war in Ukraine, and Ukrainian military experience should give us guidelines on how to fight a super power.
The Ukrainians were spending 8 billion a year on defence for the last 8 years, and they have an advanced defence industry.
Irrespective of the territorial gains of the Russian army, Ukraine still has an air force flying, complete with MIG-29s, SU-25's, SU-24s, MI-17s, UCAVs and MI-24 Attack helicopters.
That's a failure for Russia after 82 days of war.
The Russians have also been dealt defeat in Kharkiv city, that's another embarrassment for the Russian army.
The amount of armour the Russians have also lost is incredible, I don't trust the calculations of "Onyx" on Twitter as he shows bias towards the Ukrainians and cannot claim to be impartial in his count, but nonetheless Russian armour loses have been high.
If the Russians don't take Odessa, Kharkiv and the east of Ukraine, this military operation in Ukraine would be considered a defeat.
davefurn: Wow, enlighten us about the war you had with Russia; I'm kinda learning here too. How did it go, What caused it?, How did it end....... Browsing on it, not seeing anything credible here, just Russia-Ukraine . I will love to hear the full story or any links to it
Here's a short animated video to get you up to speed.

He's referring to the Angolan Bush war which resulted in the fall of Apartheid and the Independence of Namibia.
GreenandGold: Russia donated those to South Africa in the 80s... They left them on the field as usual
So are we military expects? There's a reason why the best fighters in the continent live in the South. War strategies are built-in
It's hard to say what is fact and what is fabricated in this war in Ukraine, as is the case in many wars across the world. Credit to the Ukrainians for defeating the Russian army in Kharkiv city, although fighting continues in Kharkiv Oblast. However in other areas of the front lines, the Ukrainians are doing poorly, Poposna, Liman, severdonesk, Snake Island etc etc
With regards to shoot and scoot , the video I shared shows the Russians shoot and scoot, however have you seen the number of commercial off the shelf drones in this conflict?
With regards to your last paragraph, let's not drag this thread through an avoidable nastiness.
"VKS has lost 10+ Alligators but how they used it in offensive role & doing CAP like missions over vast countryside, it showed impressive performance".
Ukraine admitted that the capture of Snake Island failed
The head of the main intelligence department of Ukraine said that the island is of strategic importance for both the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Russian army, because. allows you to control the surface and, to a certain extent, the air situation in southern Ukraine. Also Snake island is strategically important from the point of view. the possibility of landing tactical amphibious assault.
The head of the GUR acknowledged an unsuccessful attempt to take possession of the island, but promised to fight for snake island as much as needed.
Russian control of the island is also confirmed by satellite images from May 12, where our air defense systems on the island, 2 landing ships and a floating crane of the Black Sea Fleet are visible.
Buschlaid: DRC has unknown number of 2nd generation Plasan SandCats - in 2015 it was reported DRC wanted to buy Georgian made Didgori-2s, but a year later, in 2016, Georgian officials had rejected the deal. Thus it's likely DRC went on to buy Plasans instead for it's Republican Guard. Spotted on 2018 parade
How do they have all this equipment, yet their soldiers fighting in the East of the country look so poorly equipped?
Over the past three days, the Kiev regime has lost 30 military unmanned aerial vehicles in the area of Snake Island, of which nine are Bayraktar TB2
official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense Igor Konashenkov.
❗️Ukraine lost 14 planes and helicopters while trying to capture Snake Island - Russian Defense Ministry
From Ukrainian sources
"Our source in the OP said that in the last two weeks we have lost more Bayraktar TB2s than in the entire war. The failure of the operation to storm the Snake island and unsuccessful flights to military facilities in Russia cost us 50 Bayraktar. The Turkish side has already expressed its dissatisfaction with the use of drones, but the General Staff has its own vision on the use of Bayraktar TB2"
MAN1960ii: After SDB3 I was expecting the Navy to build something like this an OPV, I think this size will be about 50m or 55m
This ship is 72m long, Damen the builder has been building naval ships for the past 120 years.
The approach of the Naval Dockyard Limited in building vessels for the Navy is exemplary. We are building more classes of ships as SDB 3 in other to horn our ship building skills. Once SDB 4 and 5 are built and delivered, we can now look at larger vessels of 60 meters and above.
shadowprimezero: Yeah, sure. Russia Today (RT), the Kremlin's main state sponsored news outlet is known for its absolutely balance and truthful reporting and has no motive of ever churning out fake news in favor of Russian troops
Aren't Western mainstream media sources known for pushing left wing propaganda too?
NIGERIAN NAVY SHIP KADA pays a courtesy call to South Africa on her maiden voyage.
The Nigerian Navy’s newly acquired Landing Ship Tank (NNS KADA) embarked on her maiden voyage from UAE to Nigeria.
South Africa was one of the many ports on her passage where the NNS KADA’s Ships Company came alongside for some recuperation and recreation (R&R).
During the visit to Cape Town over the period 3 to 7 May 2022, Officer Commanding of NNS KADA, Captain R.O. Adoki paid a courtesy call to the South African Navy’s Flag Officer Fleet at the Fleet Command Headquarters in Simon’s Town.
Other activities embarked on during their visit, including a friendly volleyball match between the two navies at the Wynberg Military Sports complex, as well as a Cocktail Function onboard NNS KADA.
Lurker4Long: Because my company's clients do a great deal of business in Nigeria, Ghana and the greater ECOWAS region, I consume a lot of Nigerian and west African media content. I have not come across any official explanation of why specifically the Nigerian government voted with the West twice at the UN on Russia's aggression against Ukraine, and then abstained on the 3rd instance. I have my own hypothesis, which rightly, can change depending on more information coming to light. I shall therefore, refrain from putting my perspective forward, lest it contaminate this query.
So, from the Nigerians here, why do you think your government adopted the stance it did? Why, with all the knowledgeable facts did they vote the way they did on those 3 occasions? Why can't I find any public explanation of their shifting stance? Last, in the absence of opinion survey data, what is your sense of public opinion on the issue?

Nigerians generally don't care too much about the war in Ukraine. Apart from the initial 2 weeks and the subsequent plight and government sponsored emergency evacuations of mostly Nigerian students in Ukraine, major 24 hours news channels in Nigeria haven't put too much focus on the ongoing conflict.
With regards to foreign policy, Nigeria and Nigerians are more afrocentric in thinking.
Only Nigerians that are military inclined or enthusiasts follow this war. The rest of the country is focused on the politics of 2023 and all the drama.
With regards to Nigeria's vote at the UN, a significant proportion of Nigeria's military equipment comes from the US, as we now see, it is clear the US blocked additional MI-35M deliveries to Nigeria. We can't afford to scuttle that.
On major international issues of this nature, Nigeria was always going to tow the US line, different when it concerns Africa though.
"A public explanation from the government for a war majority of Nigerians don't care about?"............ It wasn't ever going to happen.
davefurn1: Concerning that, Nigeria just decided to play their international politics well; heard the Nigerian army led a delegation to the Russian embassy recently. Nigeria is now trying its best to play neutral but nevertheless US have been very helpful in their humanitarian efforts in north-east. On my take on the snake island and lose of mi-8 controversy; too many confusing statement but I will drop this: the former commander of the 10th Naval Aviation Brigade of the Ukrainian Navy, Colonel Igor Bedzai according to some ukrainian sources. Modified: according to them, he was among the very best pilots they had.
According to them, he died on the May 7th on the day of the snake island raid; let's not jump to conclusions yet. It's from this little pieces of information we can atleast get an idea of what is going on in ukraine presently despite the fog of war and propaganda from both sides. Posted a pic of the Russian mod on the snake island situation
Concerning the tb2, I have been forced to ask myself between the tb2 and the orlan 10 UCAV which have been more effective in this war. Let's forget about those switchblades and suicide drones that the US hyped that even the propaganda video of it was somehow a failure
