I AM A MEMBER APOSTLESHIP OF PRAYER SACRED HEART OF JESUS,((OTU OBI NDIA NSU JESU ) |
The controversy over lawmakers’ pay has taken a new shape, with a senator proposing the scrapping of the National Assembly – if that would lead to drastic reduction in the cost of governance. Senate Leader Victor Ndoma-Egba made the proposal in an interview with The Nation in Abuja. Ndoma-Egba took exception to the frequent bashing of the National Assembly as the cause of the overbloated recurrent expenditure of the Federal Government. The Cross River Central lawmaker specifically said that the damning Sheik Ahmed Lemu report, which castigated members of the National Assembly for alleged flamboyant lifestyle at the expense of Nigerians was off the mark. The Senate Leader, who described the report as “sensationalism, tokenism, scapegoatism and diversionary tactics”, noted that those who talk about jumbo pay for lawmakers forgot that the budget of the National Assembly is only N150 billion or three per cent of the country’s annual budget. He insisted that the country should consider scrapping the parliament if that would assuage the “misinformed sentiment” some Nigerians have about the National Assembly. Ndoma-Egba said his take-home pay after tax is between N900,000 and N600,000. The basic salary of a rank and file member of the US Congress is $174,000. He wondered why anybody would accuse members of the National Assembly of flamboyance when he has only one car, unlike ministers who move about in a convoy of cars. Ndoma-Egba said: “I have made a proposal that we should scrap the National Assembly and see how much we save. “Like I said before, we lived without the National Assembly before. We lived without the National Assembly for 30 years. Let’s scrap it and see whether it will solve the problem. “But I told you, even when the National Assembly did not exist, the cost of governance was an issue.” The Senator said: “Let us put the cost of governance in perspective. First of all, you know, for the many years that we had the military rule the National Assembly did not exist. “And in those 30 years, that the National Assembly did not exist, the cost of governance was still an issue. “I remember I was commissioner under the military and one of the most topical issues was the cost of construction in Nigeria. “It was said to be the highest in the world. This was when the National Assembly did not exist. The cost of governance was still an issue.” Insisting that the cost of governance has nothing to do with the National Assembly, Ndoma-Egba said that Nigerians should pick the budget and do informed analysis of the fiscal policy. He said: “Let us come to the figures. We have maintained a budget of N150billion in the last four or five years. “That of the Judiciary has been dwindling, from N97billion four years ago to about N60billion. “What has been the trend for the Executive? Has it been stagnant like the National Assembly or has it dwindled like the Judiciary? “That of the Executive has continued to go up. Now, what is the ratio or the percentage of N150billion out of a national budget of approximately N4.8trillion, about three per cent. “So, why do we have this fixation on three per cent of the budget and not on 97 per cent of the budget? “Three per cent of the budget is getting 97 per cent attention and 97 per cent of the budget is getting three per cent attention. “What is the fixation? And now the impression out there is that ‘oh you collect this N150 billion and just share it amongst members of the National Assembly. “Nothing can be more fallacious because one, the N150 billion includes our capital; it includes recurrent; it includes the salaries of 109 Senators, 360 members of the House of Representatives, their aides – we have a maximum of six aides. “It includes the salaries of the civil servants from the Clerk to the National Assembly to the Deputy Clerk, to the Clerk of Senate, Clerk of House and to all the civil servants here down to the lowest cleaner. It includes the salaries of the National Assembly Service Commission, from the Chairman through his Commissioners, down to the civil servants there to the lowest cleaner. It includes the salaries and allowances of the National Institute of Legislative Studies, from the Director General through the many Professors down to the cleaner. “It includes our subscriptions to international parliamentary organisations. “The total running cost of the National Assembly is that N150 billion out of a budget of N4.8trillion.” Ndoma-Egba spoke about the cost to maintain the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). “Do we know? What does it cost to maintain a senior manager in NNPC? I am not talking of the Managing Director. Do we know?” “What does it cost to maintain a senior manager in Petroleum Technology Development Fund? Do we know? What does it cost to maintain a senior manager in Central Bank of Nigeria? Do we know SOURCE:;http://thenationonlineng.net/new/senate-runs-on-n150b-budget-says-ndoma-egba/ PLEASE CAN SOME ONE SHOUT "HOLY GHOST ![]() ?SOURCE:

nO BE NEWS AGAIN COZ HE IS USED TO BITING ONCE HE IS EMOTIONAL. When he was Ajax captain in Nov 2010 Suarez was given a seven-match ban for biting PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal . I am sure that he also bites his girl friend when ever dem dey do something like pokky pokky \\\\[b]Ajax captain Luis Suarez has accepted a seven-match ban for biting PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal's shoulder in Saturday's 0-0 league draw. His club, who have unilaterally fined and banned the Uruguayan for two games, will not appeal against the punishment. Suarez will be sidelined domestically until 4 February next year, but remains eligible for European competition. The striker's three goals in the 2010 World Cup were overshadowed by his red card in the quarter-final with Ghana. The 23-year-old's deliberate handball on the line in the dying seconds of the game in Johannesburg - which earned him his dismissal - prevented a certain goal and Asamoah Gyan missed the resulting penalty. Uruguay subsequently went through on penalties before being beaten in the semi-final by the Netherlands - a game Suarez missed through suspension. 606: DEBATE Give your reaction to Suarez's seven-game ban Saturday's incident against PSV happened in stoppage time after referee Bjorn Kuipers showed Ajax's Rasmus Lindgren a straight red for a rough tackle on playmaker Ibrahim Afellay. Suarez argued with Bakkal, who stood on the Uruguayan's foot, prompting him to bite the PSV midfielder's shoulder, although the incident was missed by the referee. In reaching their decision over the severity of Suarez's punishment, the Dutch Football Federation said they had taken the player's previous conduct into account. The forward, who has scored seven goals this season, still had a suspended one-match ban hanging over him following a red card in the season-opening Johan Cruyff Bowl match in July. Although he will miss Ajax's next six Eredivisie fixtures, and the Dutch Cup tie with AZ, Suarez will be eligible to play in the Champions League group match against AC Milan on 8 December. Ajax's 4-0 home defeat by Real Madrid on Tuesday ended their hopes of reaching the knockout stage but they can finish third in Group G to clinch a consolation place in the Europa League. Player Rating: Nigeria Vs Kenya by Jarus(m): 6:58pm On Mar 23 Martins: Power playing Martins was eager to impress to recalim his space in Eagles team. He wasn’t awful, as he charged the Kenyan defenders and wasn’t selfish either as he freed Moses and Ideye a number of times. His inability to convert the few chances he had may be because he was impatient with himself. He is not spent, he is still needed for this team. 5.5 Kwambe: Home-based Solomon Kwmabe who stood in for suspended Efe Ambrose wasn’t exactly outstanding. He was shaky acouple of times. 4.5 Musa: He was awful. He ran without thinking. He ballooned the half-chance he got. He didn’t create chance as a winger is expected to do from the flanks. He gave away possession too. 3 ![]() PLEASE MARTIN NA :OP: BROTER? WHY HE KILL OTHERS NAH ? http://www.punchng.com/news/police-killed-our-son-labelled-him-robber-parents/ The parents of Seyi Fasere, who was allegedly killed in Oye Ekiti after simultaneous attacks by hoodlums on a branch of United Bank for Africa Plc and the police station in the town, have accused the police of being behind their son’s death. They said the police murdered the 400-level student of Business Administration of the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti at their station 24 hours after the robbery. The father of the deceased, Mr. Joseph Fasere (65), and his mother, Florence, told PUNCH Metro on Thursday that both of them were locked up and tortured at the police station when they went there to claim the corpse of their son. The grief-stricken mother said Seyi had gone to Ilupeju to collect his tuition to enable him write the second semester examination but ran into the robbery at Oye Ekiti. She said 28-year-old Seyi had boarded a commercial bus to Ado Ekiti last Thursday (February 28), adding that the driver made a detour to a saw mill along the road when he learnt that the robbery was going on. She said, “I was told the driver, an old woman and Seyi who were the occupants of the bus ran out into the bush. “My son was later arrested by the policemen who combed the bush after the robbery and found Seyi where he was still hiding. They took him to the station, where the N100,000 tuition was found on him. “I learnt that a notorious policeman at the station, known as “Akobi Esu” (Devil’s firstborn) pulled the trigger which terminated the life of Seyi who the whole family was looking up to.” The grieving mother added that her son was tortured overnight and was killed on Friday morning, a day after the robbery. She stated that one of the robbers who was shot during the incident had run into the bush and was later swept outside by flood the following day. The woman said that the suspected robber who was swept outside by the flood was now receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Ido Ekiti. She explained that Seyi’s corpse was taken to the suspect for identification and the suspect said that Seyi was not part of the gang. She said, “Seyi was a very hardworking boy. He was into palm kernel and cassava processing. We do the same business. He was going back to Ado to pay his fees when he ran into the robbery incident. He ran and hid in the bush but the police killed him to show that they were working. “We saw his corpse at the police station, his hands were tied to the back and he had been tortured before he was killed. His corpse was first taken to the bush and they brought it out as if he was killed inside the bush. This is just a cover up. I want the government to help me because my son must not die in vain. “The robber even said that Seyi was not a member of the gang. He said that there was no Yoruba among them. They know that we have nobody to fight for us and that is why they are treating us like criminals.” The second passenger in the bus, 72-year-old Victoria Adewuyi, said Seyi and heself ran into the bush to avoid the robbers. The woman said, “I boarded the bus at Ilupeju and Seyi joined the bus at Eshinku. He was going to Ado. Later the bus ran into a robbery scene. The driver sped to a sawmill and we all ran away from the bus into the bush. I later came out of the bush because I realised that if I was killed in the bush my children might never know. I am very sure that Seyi was not part of the robbers.” The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Victor Babayemi, denied that the deceased was killed at the police station. He said Seyi might have been caught in the exchange of gunfire. The PPRO said, “There was a simultaneous attack on the bank and a police station. The hoodlums came with dynamites and guns and attacked the bank and the station at the same time. They used a rock in front of the police station as a cover during the operation but our men were able to repel them after exchange of gunfire. “Our men went to the rock after the hoodlums had fled and recovered some dynamites. Bloodstain was seen there and the bloodstain was traced into the bush where the corpse of Seyi was recovered. “One of the robbers who was shot and arrested said he could not identify Seyi because their gang leader recruited them separately and he (Seyi) was not among the team that attacked the station. “He (suspected robber) said that he was part of the team that attacked the bank and not those who attacked the police station. But we are still investigating the incident.”

BRILLIANT JUST ON THE SPOT,BUT PLEASE BEFORE YOU CRITICIZE THIS MAN BE KIND TO LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE A NIGERIAN, YOU LIVE IN NIGERIA AND WHERE YOU LIVE? ARE YOU A PARTY MEMBER OR A NIGERIAN THAT WISH THE BEST FOR NIGERIA. DEMOCRACY 3. There is no point in rehearsing all the text-book theories of democracy to this august gathering. But in practical terms there are, I think, certain conditions without which true democracy cannot survive. These conditions include, but are not limited to, the level of literacy; level of economic attainment; reasonable homogeneity; rights of free speech and free association; a level playing field; free and fair elections; adherence to the rule of law and an impartial judiciary. But these imperatives are not applicable to all countries and all climes. India for example, suffers from great poverty and diversity but its efforts at running a democracy are exemplary.4. Democracy can best flourish when a certain level of educational attainment or literacy exists in the society. The vast majority of the voters must be in a position to read and write and consequently distinguish which is which on the voters card to make their choices truly theirs. In recent elections in Nigeria, many voters had to be guided – like blind men and women – as to which name and logo represent their preferred choices or candidates to vote for. When one does not know what the thing is all about, it is difficult to arrive at a free choice. It will be even more difficult to hold elected office holders to account and throw them out for non-performance at the next election. Under these circumstances, democracy has a long way to go. Our collective expectations on a democratic system of government in less advanced countries must, therefore, be tempered by these realities...... KINDLY DISPROVE THIS IN RELATION TO ABOVE 5. Nor must we discount the role of economic development on the democratic process. An even more compelling determinant to human behavior than education is, I think, economic condition. I will return to this topic when discussing elections, but suffice to remark here that if, for example, on election day, a voter wakes up with nothing to eat for himself and his family and representatives of a candidate offer him, say N500 (£2) he faces a hard choice: whether to starve for the day or abandon his right to vote freely. As the celebrated American economist, late Professor J.K. Galbraith said: “Nothing circumscribes freedom more completely than total absence of money”. ALOT AND ALOT TO SAY BUT THE TRUTH MUST BE TOLD |
PLEASE THE WAY THINGS ARE GOING IN ABIA STATE METHINKS THAT ORJI UZOR KALU,T.A.ORJI AND CLIFFORD ORJI ARE RELATED. PLEASE ANY DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE HELP UP WITH A DNA ![]() |
[b]Win Abia my a??, 1) All the slots given to Abia State by GEJ was corned by Gov Obi to his Anambara people from Bianca to just name it. 2)What role did Gov Obi, Bianca all other National officers mentioned above play during the last 2011 election in all those states that he mentioned, cognizance must be given to the fact that 2011 was not an election year in Anambara State, but like the camelon he is he never campaigned in any of the states he mentioned to prop APGA to victory. He only tried to make sure that GEJ and PDP wins. Now coming to Abia State. [b]Chief Reagan Ufomba, this is a man that did not even pay 1 KOBO ( ONE KOBO ) for "PURE WATER" to his agents, I am not talking about his Party officers or assist in any way to help the party during election ,all he told them was to go to their polling units, win election come back to him and he will give the agent 1Million( Crazy)Win your Local Govt and come take 1million Naira cash(419) [b]Chief Dickson: Is this fellow in Abia APGA ? LOL.With the death of Ojukwu, this guy died with him too.As far as Abia APGA is concerned this guy should ask Bianca to assist him . The Gov Peter Obi faction in Abia State, please can any Nairalander help tell Gov Peter Obi to as a matter of fact wake up and face the realities on ground coz if he did not come in 2011 to all those states to campaign to assist all those states is now that he is going to assist. We the real APGA (the grass root) is joining APC based on the fact that the The Ikemba, Eze Igbo gburugburu, Odu ndi Igbo nkem Bu, Anya di igbo nji ahu uzu nke Mbu, Oputa Obie nke mbu Ndi Igbo etc ( please add your own title to this great son of our land) will not consider only people from his state for any political position rather he will make sure that it spreads round .He believes in equality. Please let them tell the above mentioned that APGA IS NOT ANAMBARA PEOPLE GATHERING AUTHORITY. Owelle is leading us and we must follow him |
Here are some examples of previous popes who have given up the papacy: – In 1045, Benedict IX, renowned as one of the most disgraceful popes the Church has known, sold his papacy to his godfather, pious priest John Gratian, so that he could get married. Reportedly unable to persuade the woman in question to have him, he returned to seize Rome. – In 1046, Gratian, who had reigned shortly as pope Gregory VI and was considered the true pope by many despite Benedict IX’s violent return to claim the throne, was forced to resign himself amid accusations he had bought the papacy. – In 1294, Celestine V, a simple hermit who was elected to end a deadlock among cardinals, proved incompetent and stepped down after reigning a mere five months. He had issued a decree declaring it possible for a pope to resign, opening up the way for his own departure. – In 1415, Gregory XII resigned in a bid to end the “Western Schism”, when two rival claimants declared themselves pope in Pisa and Avignon and threatened to tear apart Roman Catholicism. – In 1804, Pius VII signed an abdication of the papal throne before setting out for Paris to crown Napoleon to be put into effect in case he were imprisoned in France. – During the Second World War, Pius XII is reported to have signed a document which said that he was to be considered as having resigned his office should he be kidnapped by the Nazis. Several popes were resigned or martyred as the Roman Empire collapsed, and the Eternal City — sacked and depopulated by barbarian hordes — fell prey to quarreling factions. But the historical details of how they fell are often lost in the mist of time, and often only the legends remain.(AFP) |
