The L, 2 and D on the gear lever means something different from what you stated.

For instance engaging the L means you are limited to drive in the lowest gear ratio or gear 1. You can't go above gear 1.

Putting it in 2 does not mean you immediately start from second gear, it means you start from first gear as normal but you are limited to second gear. In other words you can't go beyond second gear.

Then putting it in D means all gear ratios are available for use.

The phone has been fixed, took it to another guy that I know was good and after explaining all that transpired. He dismantled the phone cleaned and dried it and vola it works with all my data intact.

Update.
Took the phone to the nearest repairer and after "reading the fone from his computer" he said the charging CPU and the board is damaged. Later in the day, I removed the back cover and placed it under the sun for long time.
Now if I try switching it on, it vibrates shows the "MI" logo then shows charge battery symbol before it goes off.
when I plugged it in to charge and try booting it, it does the above process but now it loops it continuously no matter how long I leave it on charge.

I tried Fast booting but still no luck.

the phone is currently chilling in a bag of rice.

is there any remedies?

Driving in the hot sun yesterday, 97F, I suddenly noticed the driver side AC was blowing hot while the passenger side remained cool. I have tried deactivating and reactivating the dual zone but problem persisted. Pls what can I do?

This has happen to me.
the problem, in my own case, was a faulty actuator. the actuator is responsible for regulating the temp. of either the driver's side or the passenger's side. for me i was able to get at the actuator open it to discover that one of the gear (that moves the lever operating the temperature door for hot and cold) is off its seating.
hopefully your case my be something similar, that will require minimal expenses.
Worst case replace the actuator of the drivers side.

Your engine may compression ratio maybe low. ie you lose power on hill climb etc.
Be proactive and check your engine before a serious problem develops.

Having gotten the right quantity of salt, I just to collect 2 liters of distilled water (I decided to collect rain water instead)
