Check out the following books
1. Reinforced concrete: design theory and examples ( first and second edition) by T. J. MACGINLEY and B. S. CHOO

2. Reinforced concrete design to BS8110 - simply explained (A H ALEN)

3. Reinforced concrete designer's handbook (C E reynolds and J C Steadman.

4. Reinforced concrete design ( Bill Mosley, John Bungey and Ray Hulse).

These books were very helpful to me during my undergraduate years on reinforced concrete design.

I will also advice you to get all the BS 8110 for reinforced concrete design, steel table and structural detailing to Bs 8110. You need to also get BS 6399 loadings for building. These codes will make it easy for you to do your design.

Structural design requires lit of simple mathematics unlike structural analysis that requires advanced and vigorous maths. What you need to do is devote more time to it, understand all the steps involved and prepare your mind towards it.

During my undergraduate years, grade (gp) was secondary to me, understanding the design was more important to me. I study these things to be able to do the design, so I use lit of practical examples like working real architectural drawings instead of those simple panels giving in the classrooms.

You know eh, when I read most of your write ups, I feel like I should get an opportunity to learn - even if it's a week - from you, I know I'll surely learn a lot. You make these stuffs easy to know. Thanks for your explanations.

Ever heard "A bird at hand worth more than two in the bush"? Hold on to your little and HOPE. Bros, construction job adverts hardly see the light of the day in Nigeria. Even if it does, it comes with great conditions like 7-10 experience, COREN registered, etc. Believe me, it's painful seeing such, especially when you're handicapped in the direction of the requirements. I'm a Civil engineering graduate still on the look out for job. It has not been easy but I believe it will son come to an end. You can check out alljobs.com.ng (I hope I got the site well). Most of the jobs they post is Civil engrg related but some (jiji and olx) are scam. All the best.

Oga, if Liverpool wins the #UEL, it doesn't stop the 4th best in the League from participating in Next Season's #UCL (that's if the team qualify through the play-offs). When we may get there?
The SEET Complex in FUTO was designed and constructed in this manner. The only difference from the above picture and that of FUTO is the material used. That of FUTO was done with blocks. Some also use clay pots as the required material - like where I did my six months IT. Though the project was halted before the slab was introduced. It's very commendable and cost wise. But considerations are made before going for such type of slab.





PS: You can also run a combination of this type with solid slab at difference floors of your building.

Why the misleading info about electrical writing later. dangote test is finished. I wrote at Obajana, it was Mech, mining, elect and chem that wrote, other disciplines join closely related, for instance geology did mining. if you guys are saying chem, elect, mech, or wat so ever didnt write in lag, who nw wrote, only mining, there was a list from what i gathered. gate crashers at obajana were tld to write 'not on the list' on top their paper cos most claimed they where invited, so they said they were gonna check later, or write ur serial number if urs is on the list. We are thinking of completely banning the promotion of forex trading and sports betting on Nairaland.

Forex day-trading and sports betting are fundamentally fraudulent because they're promoted as a quick way of making money whereas due to mathematical facts, the only people who make money are the middlemen and marketers. The "investors" almost always lose their money.

In our experience, it's not enough to warn Nairaland members about the dangers of forex day-trading and sports betting. The promise of quick profit is just too strong for thousands of vulnerable Nairaland members to resist. The only way to protect them is complete censorship.

We believe that the complete ban of such content will make Nairaland a better platform for discussing legitimate entrepreneurship and finance.

All protocols duly observed.

You must know that threads are created for owner's sake, likewise visiting them. Saying that these threads are not helpful but rather affective, thus the reason for banning them, gives room to a lot of questioning.

Every thread/section I visit on Nairaland is for the sole purpose of learning and knowing what is happening in the society through Nairaland (I love the JV {Chat room proper} section). It does not mean I'll have to visit all threads. But it definitely means that the subjects are attracting and the piece therein is worth glancing through. The same should be said for all Nairalanders.

Whoever is visiting a thread does so at his/her discretion and is liable for any negative thing he/she encounters therein. A perfect example is that of the Sexuality section. If a "Church goer (Holier than thou)" strolls down to the Romance/Sexuality section all in the name of wanting to know more, will s/he expect to see Jesus Christ or "church" related stuffs there when the section name says it all? Or the Muslim section that requires you accept you're a Muslim before you can "view" what is happening there. You don't expect me to continue with the journey when I know it has nothing to do with my faith - Even when Madcow1's signature, "The Islamic Section of Nairaland is a
Potential Security Hazard.. They may be planning a Jihad
there and we wouldn't know", says it all.

Uncle Seun, leave threads for those who enjoy it. Believe me, most peeps only know those threads on Nairaland and shutting them simply means reduction in traffic (or whatever it can be called). I'd suggest you create a separate thread for betting, since it's garnering enough visits and views so that the sports section will be devoid of betting complaints.

Since then I've not been able to leave that page as it keep rejecting either my username or password (annoyingly, the page opened in Dutch). Please, how did you go about the username and password? Does the password or username require a symbol or figure.
