arsenal won the game simply because of what they did while in possession and what they did when not in possession. robin van persie might not have hit the onion bag this season but he has to be credited for his pressing last night. he kept defending from the front - never giving ivanovic and terry any breathing space and when petr cech went the long ball route, djourou and koscielny dominated drogba. another masterstroke was starting theo walcott to curtail ashley cole's offensive quality. chelsea were lethargic. malouda, essien, ferreira, kalou should have their wages deducted for three months.
Spot on!It's the Barca way and it's one of the reason they are arguably the best team in the world.Whether we can continue to play like with matches coming thick and fast is another issue entirely.

Arshavin in yesterday's game would have been a NO NO by the way.

While the match would have been a great run out for Cesc in regaining form,i think it is better than missing him against Birm and Man City.

I would really love to see Nasri moved centrally but i am sure Diaby/Rosicky,Wilshere and Song will be Arsene's preferred option.

Believe me,our pressing game/defending from the front played a big role in the victory. How do you think we came bout those 2 goals in quick succession? We harried them like we did Everton last season at their ground.

Forget defensive cover, Chelski simply didn't play well through the wings at all - their main weapon was Cech to DD aerially, which JD dealt with very well.
Chelsea did the usual.i can't remember the last time they outplay us either through the wing or anywhere. . .the difference was we did the basic thing(like closing them down and been up for it physically) and never panicked through the game.

Though me i worry pass toothache even when we were 3 goals up.

Shey you see what a good help/cover could for Clichy.Though he still had his moment of madness, you will discover he was barely exposed as he will be when Arshavin is playing ahead of him. tongue

Song was immense today and was KEY,re-watching the match now and i wan beg Arsene t let this boy play his usual role without distraction abeg.

But for the fact that we won,Clattenburg's questionable and dodgy officiating would have been a MAJOR issue.

@ Debo,

You and who were praising Mikel?

Not me!

Mikel is a player without position. Too slow to play AM and too lethargic to play DM. Mikel is a monkey post footballer.

Tiote waz responsible for numerous one nil wins that secured Twente the title last season. He's made two mistakes for Newcastle, but the fans are raving about him.

Chelsea problems are structural. We have a system that requires 3 strong central midfielders who should tenacious, strong and skillful. Mikel is only skillful. Essien is fading and Lamps has missed the whole season. Chelseas system is simple - The wingers (Anelka and Malouda) are defensive passengers. . . and that's why we cannot have passengers in midfield, of which Mikel is one!
Not a Mikel fan but you will really have to look far to see anyone who will agree with you on Mikel been a liability in this game.

Essien and Malouda were far more culpable.Even Ferreira who i thought would be mangled by Nasri put up a more formidable show that those 2.

The more Carlo starts putting faith in the younger ones the better.Eachran and Kakuta should be getting more time and i felt Lampard not Mikel should have been subbed for Eachran not Ramirez.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (R.I.P Bawomolo). by kaypumpin2(m): 12:26am On Dec 28, 2010
Nice victory.Till the ref blew,I thought we were gooner blow it.

All the lads gave their besy but special mention must go to Djorou, his aerial dominance was helpful.I have always felt its either of the new guys along him in the CB as he doesn't have the adaptibility issue.

Kos was OK till the goal and I I think this dude should be converted to a DF where his mistakes wouldn't be that telling.Plus he his comfortable with the ball at his feet and his distribution isn't that bad.

Song had his best game of the season and Wilshere doesn't need Ballotelli's acknowlegdement.

All in all, good 3 points and we should shake this off immediately and get our mind to facing the erratic Wigan at JJB.

While I wouldn't want to be drawn into the RVP vs Chamakh debate(both are good players who should start depending on what tactics Le Prof decides on),I am sure whatever attacking formation will be used will become null IF Song decides to maraud far too much into Chelsea's half rather than sit right infront of the back four a la Mikel.Wilshere is energetic and smart enough to play the pressing game Wenger wants Song to engage in.I do not see us keeping a clean sheet(isn't it ordained for Drogba to score against us) and I doubt we will have to many chances with Mikel and Essien dilligently choking the midfield up.We are not the type to utilize set pieces/area ball too so I am banking so much on individual brilliance of any of our forward players.IF they score first, wahala dey o,

PS:Can someone tell Kos,if he plays, not to go forward when we have any set piece please, it's not like he will score, abi?

I have always maintained that these lads have the right mentality. These bunch like i said earlier in ze seasun, are my best group.

On if the jinx of the big games have been broken
There has never been (a) jinx.It was media (fabricated)and we never worked with that.

On if the team will win the league
Yes,just like Chelsea,Man United,Man City,Liverpool and Tottenham(intentionally calling the spuds last) all have chances of winning.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (R.I.P Bawomolo). by kaypumpin2(m): 8:59pm On Dec 26, 2010
Ze match was a tight one and you can see the players have improved from ze last time we played at ST bridge.Ze pitch also affected ze way the players should have played. We lacked a little bit of sharpness and physicality due to the fact we have not played for 2 weeks now and it took ze players time to get into gear.
On Drogba scoring again
I don't know, you can see he didn't do ANYTHING throught ze match BUT for ze goal.
On if Kos should have defended better against Drogba for the goal
I didn't see the incident before ze goal but you can see he did well againt Drogba for 35mins before ze goal.
On if his side in still in the title race
Zis is one crazy seasun and i am sure everything can change in the next 2 weeks.

That said,MI was never a lyricist so I am wondering why anyone is dissapointed in the first place.I'll understand if it's Modey that came out with this album and you are up in arms.

Is this album a lyrical-fest?NO

But did the album achieve what it set out to commercially?Oh yes

I do not think we need new player(s),save for the GKing situ.Just tell Song to go back to his last season position, even with his hair and advise Kos to stop into the opponents half anytime there's a set-piece tongue

Bring it on,dude!!! grin
But seriously,no offense meant, just stating my view.
The only reason it would seem I'm persisting is because no one has defined the "big game"thing for me adequately. . .
Star,

You will get the adequate explanation as per the big game argument if you keep an open mind.Let's get hypothetical here:

Let's assume Barca and Man City do some exchange programe today that made all Barca players turn Man City players and vice versa, will it automatically transfer the tradition and history of Baraca to Man City and turn them into a big club?NO

Will it turn them into a competitive team capable of ensuing in a BIG GAME against any of the established team in the EPL?Oh yes.

With Tevez,Silva and Toure on the parade, you can't call such a game an "ordinary game".

BTW,if Arsenal has gotten whooped against Man City, will you not agree Arsenal can't hold his own in the "big games"?

Will you call a match against N.Forest(with all its tradition and history) today a BIG GAME?

debosky:
I don't buy that - who is protecting Sagna? huh Sagna goes forward far more than Clichy does, yet is rarely in the type of trouble Clichy finds himself in.

Someone has said Clichy lacks good defensive habits. Good defenders intercept the ball and get rid of it quickly - either boot it out for a throw or fire it forward.

Clichy will intercept and then switch off, thinking he can dribble, only to lose the ball back to the attacking player. No amount of ‘protection’ will prevent that kind of idiotic behaviour.

I don’t buy that - I think it’s more of a myth than anything else. We didn’t have Keown or Adams coaching when Campbell and Kolo were the CBs, so why will they suddenly do magic now?
You don't have to buy it,it is as clear as daylight.Who helps Sagna?Of course Nasri tracks back and it is obvious.I am not in anyway alluding to Clichy's impeccability, but Arshavin is useless in tracking back, never mind his inconsistent attacking stint.

Coward?Did you watch the convention at all?Did you particularly watch Tinubu's invectives towards Poverty Development Party, especially Atiku and Goodluck?

I think not!No coward can launch such vitriols against a sitting President.

That said, when is their Presidential primaries coming up and it is laughable to see Ribadu grovelling in a party that has Tinubu as a top shotter.

As per Clichy, I know he's not popular but I don't actually agree with most people about how bad Clichy is. As recent against ManU bar one or 2 miscues time and time again he took the ball off Nani quite easily. This perception of the horrible defender that Clichy is in my IMO is quite wrong. And to put Baines as his replacement?
Clichy's been terrible but i maintain if he has a player that helps out defensively,he wouldn't be made to look that preposterous. You just need to look at Arshavin's disposition to the defensive side of the game to understand why Clichy is always exposed hence highly susceptible to clangers.
