OP, there are many unhinged characters roaming these parts, craving for the slightest provocation to ignite their fury. I have also seen self-proclaimed Efiks and Ibibios here that have made unsavory remarks about the Igbo at different times. Does this mean that our respective people are no longer in good terms because some uncouth knuckleheads on a faceless forum decided to trade insults? I believe the situation on ground suggests otherwise. So, do not be quick to indict Igbo for the erratic comments of a few urchins, who may not even be Igbo but are hell bent on sowing discord, as you noted. Rest assured, most of us are familiar with the good ole' 'Igbo want our oil' propaganda and the clowns that stagger around to propagate it. The comic relief they provide is duly noted.

THE PLANNED RELOCATION OF BOKO HARAM CONVICTS TO ANAMBRA PRISONS

SETTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT

The attention of the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has been drawn to the mischievous speculations on the social media that the planned relocation of some Boko Haram convicts to some prisons in Anambra State was done with his tacit approval and endorsement. I wish to categorically dismiss these speculations, hearsay and beer parlour banters as fundamentally untrue and should be disregarded by Nigerians.

Hard Facts

The fact is that when governor Obiano got wind of the planned relocation of these high risk prisoners to Anambra State, he quickly swung into action and contacted the relevant authorities to seek clarifications on the matter after which he raised several objections to the plan.

Among Governor Obiano’s many objections are -

That Anambra has been one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria in the past one year under his watch and that the arrival of these radical elements in any part of the state would disrupt this peace and lead to a new regime of a different kind of fear in the state.

That Ekwulobia Prisons is not a Maximum Security Prison. It is therefore not suitable as holding place for convicted terrorists. Global experiences show that terrorists and terror suspects are kept in strongly fortified and isolated places. A good example is the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp where the US keeps high-risk terror suspects and convicts which is a military facility, located away from the people. Ekwulobia Prisons does not fit into this category of detention facilities.

That Ekwulobia Prisons has a capacity to hold 85 inmates. At the moment, there are 135 inmates in the prison. Therefore, there is no space for new prisoners. The acute shortage of space presents a high possibility for the radicalization of other inmates by the Boko Haram convicts.

That unlike other locations where the terror-convicts are held in sparsely populated areas which makes their isolation from the people easy, Ekwulobia is a densely populated town. There is a very high risk of contact between these radical prisoners and the civilian population with an avoidable danger.

That the relocation of these prisoners to Anambra may not have paid adequate attention to the sensibilities of the country, especially the fact that some ethnic populations have suffered the most from the activities of these convicts across the North.

Governor Obiano’s efforts to establish this understanding and achieve a speedy and peaceful resolution of the matter went to the highest authorities. He was given assurances that the matter would be looked into with a view to resolving it with dispatch.

With these assurances he worked assiduously to ensure that there was no breakdown of law and order during the peaceful demonstration staged by traders across the state on Saturday, June 27, 2015 against the relocation of the inmates. Since the demonstration, Governor Obiano has continued to engage the relevant authorities on behalf of Ndi Anambra to ensure an amicable resolution of the issue.

He therefore urges Ndi Anambra and Ndigbo in general to remain calm and avoid anything that might lead to a breach of the peace as the matter is being resolved at the highest level.

The premier Special Operations Force in the United States is the revered and secretive Delta Force. Once upon a time, one would have tipped the British SAS(Delta was fashioned after the SAS, as America's premier counter terrorism unit) as number one, but based on sheer resources, America's global reach,which makes Delta way more active, and the experience and operational capabilities gained from being so active, even some former SAS members have declared that Delta clearly has the edge.
The US Navy SEALs are enjoying their hollywood moment(like Special Forces aka Green Berets did in the aftermath of the Vietnam war), but fiction is a little different from reality. First of all, only the former SEAL team six (DEVGRU) is comparable to Delta, and they are still a notch beneath Delta. The other SEAL teams are at best comparable to the Green Berets, which is a vast improvement in reputation....in the 70's they were the equivalent of the Army Rangers.
Most of Delta's missions are highly classified, and the Army doesn't officially recognize the existence of 'The Unit', as they are often called. So, very little of their activity makes it to the media. They are certainly more secretive than DEVGRU. . .it was Delta that captured Saddam Hussein, but in maintaining their secrecy and code of the silent professional, they let conventional Army forces in the area take the credit. Just last month, Delta Force struck deep in ISIS held territory in Syria and took out a key ISIS leader with little fanfare.
Some in the special operations community were appalled that DEVGRU was sent to eliminate Bin Laden instead of Delta. . .what was that about? It came down to the constant pissing contest between the Army and the Navy, and the commander of JSOC(joint spec ops command) at the time being a Navy Admiral(and former SEAL) wanted to score one for his guys. It was a 'vanilla mission' as their was little resistance encountered, but the naysayers were proven right as the SEALs involved soon started seeking fame, writing books and publicly arguing with each other about who actually shot Bin Laden. It was a show of shame.
The bottom line is; the highest value targets on America's hit list are primarily hunted down by one unit. . .Delta Force. It is certainly the highest priority unit in the US military, and I really don't see how they don't come out tops on this type of list.

It took many members of both teams to separate these two powerhouses. Saccani had no choice but to show both men a red card and send them packing. If only this was the end of the story.
However, as the two men entered the tunnel the fisticuffs continued. According to witnesses inside the tunnel it was Davids who waited around a corner to ambush an unsuspecting Contra. He unleashed a hailstorm of punches and kicks on the Romanian. Security guards tried to separate the two but to no avail, Davids was on a rampage. Ciro Ferrara and Lilian Thuram were alerted by the scuffle and got involved. Milan back-up keepers Christian Abbiati and Valerio Fiori came to the aid of Contra. According to witnesses Ferrara kicked at Contra causing Abbiati to growl, “Ciro, I never expected this from you!” Finally the two were pried apart and went their separate ways. In case it mattered, Milan went on to win the match thanks to an Andriy Shevchenko goal in the 17th minute most.

It was not the first time Davids found himself at the center of controversy and certainly wouldn’t be the last. Under investigation just a few months earlier for using performance enhancing drugs, the Dutchman had been sent off nine times in his career in Italy racking up 69 yellow cards in the process.

This was not the end of the Davids-Contra affair as years later, when Tottenham Hotspur were contemplating a move for Davids in 2005, Contra (then a member of Getafe, a side he would go on to manage) spoke out against the Dutchman to The News of the World branding him a “psychopath” and a “violent man”.

Mr. Aribasala was on the right track till he started characterizing Ndigbo as a people holding on to old grudges just for the heck of it. Perhaps he felt the need to butter us up with all the adulation before levying this damning accusation against Ndigbo. I'm not saying his intentions are evil, but the conclusion that Ndigbo begrudge some other Nigerians without acknowledging the opposing grudges and spiteful attitude still directed at Ndigbo, amounts to a gross misrepresentation of facts.

I dare say that Ndigbo emerged from the civil war with every intention to put the ugly episode behind them. However, some other Nigerians, intent on dominating the affairs of the nation, would not let them live down the episode. The Igbo dusted himself up after the war and set out to fully reintegrate himself into Nigeria. Too soon, too quick, they sneered at him, and continue to sneer. Events in Nigeria to this day, too numerous to mention, constantly remind Ndigbo that all is not well in this contraption of a nation.

Ndibgo, at various times in the history of Nigeria post-civil war, have participated fully and given support to Nigerians of other ethnic origins to emerge as the presidents of Nigeria. They gave so much support to Goodluck Jonathan that some started to speculate that the Ijaw man was somehow an Igbo man. Yet, many balk at the notion of an Igbo president.

If the Igbo hold any grudges, it is because they are not at peace with the injustice which they presently endure in Nigeria. Really,why would they not hold a grudge? The relentless hostile attitude of the north and the passive aggressive stance of the west, which are ingrained in every facet of Nigerian life, certainly leave a lot to be desired. Hence, the increasingly renewed agitation for Biafra, I believe, represents the frustration of a people who have all but given up on getting a fair shake in Nigeria.
