What are the rules of engagement? Urbanisation and development have the potential to expand the market for products. This is why we need Land reforms, you can have development and also fresh palm wine in a community. By the way, television erodes our culture more than any other thing and villages without roads at least watch tv somehow. |
We like to tribalise and spiritualise our problems. Yes the constitution gives you the right to live anywhere but you also have to respect traditions and laws of your hosts. Onitsha market closes on Catholic holidays (Nov 1, Easter) I don't see other religion or Christian complain about it, why cos it is a culture. There are some markets in Igbo land that still follow the Eke, Nkwo, market day and no visitor dares go against that. Try to buy a land as an Hausa in Enugu and see who will sell to you Fact is Lagos is a tolerant place and if we can't follow the little babaloja leadership issue then yes go back to our village. Yes we are good traders and sellers but it doesn't matter if you have no customer so please park well. |
proudlysports: On a personal note, the whole Suarez link doesn't make any sense to me. One he is not the type of player AW would sign considering his discipline (or more like, lack of). Secondly, the amount of money we will be throwing at this is totally unArseneWenger!Morally AFC don't want him but footballistically (apologies AW) he is the perfect fit for the team. It is a delicate balance, if we pull it off it would be glorious. We also need a defender. Huge doubt on Fellani but I hear his release clause expires on the 31st July and if no one comes in then is down till August but doubt we really need his type but who knows. Let's keep watching |
Haha this is news cos they are Igbos. Most states including Anambra sent beggars back to the north so rather than talk about creating opportunities we are here talking Igbos this and that. For their safety and for other people's safety destitute should be relocated to their states of origin. Even Abuja does this all the time. Sacked From Abuja, Beggars Settle in Mararaba6 May 2013 , By Abubakar Yakubu, Source: Daily Trust They were chased out of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in their hundreds, but now seek refuge in nearby Mararaba, Nasarawa State, which is fast becoming a 'colony' of beggars. The war being fought in Abuja city centre against street begging is gradually affecting Mararaba, a town in Nasarawa State which is close to the city. The town has been taken over by beggars who now occupy in large numbers, a pedestrian bridge, major roads, front of banking premises and major supermarkets.Majority of the beggars, however, told Weekly Trust that they are willing to leave the streets if they are empowered to start small businesses.Jummai, a mother of three under-aged kids at the top of a pedestrian bridge in the area, said life became so unbearable for her that they could hardly feed. "These children's father died in a motor accident and I was left with the burden of looking after them. We had no money to feed and had to come to this place to beg for survival," she said.Umaru Sokoto, an elderly beggar, said he begs to feed. "The country is bad and there is nothing for me to do at my age than beg those God has blessed," he said.More than 30 women, 15 children of between the ages of one and six years and elderly men beg for alms on the bridge. At the Mararaba-Keffi road demarcation (centre of the road), more beggars, including women and children were there. The beggars were also seen in large numbers at Mararaba junction to ECWA Karu, entrance of Abacha Road Mararaba, Orange Market and Aso road.Another set of beggars in the town are those who wear dark eye glasses to show they are blind and move around shops in Markets with under aged children as guides.Weekly Trust gathered from residents of the town that the influx of beggars is as a result of the Federal Capital Territory Administration's policy against street begging in Abuja city centre.Since the policy came into effect, billions of naira has been spent in rehabilitating a welfare centre, acquiring buses for enforcement and to mobilize security operatives as well as officials of the Social Welfare Secretariat/ Abuja Environmental Protection Board for operations.Few years back, over 170 beggars arrested in different parts of the city centre were repatriated to their respective states of origin. The repatriation process, according to an official of FCTA, has been ongoing and has led to the eviction of over a thousand beggars to Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, Jigawa, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Plateau, Gombe, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Abia StatesThose entrusted in carrying out the repatriation were officials of the Society Against Prostitution and Child Labour in Nigeria (SAP-CLN), Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) and Social Development Secretariat.During that period, Grace Adogo, coordinator of SAP-CLN, said the beggars had to be repatriated due to the security challenges facing the FCT.She said the FCT Permanent Secretary directed that the stoppage of street begging and hawking, which according to her contravenes Section 36 of the AEPB Act of 1997.The coordinator expressed worries about the identity of street beggars and said they have no identity, but often flood traffics during hold ups with bags and unknown items. She also accused them of peeping into peoples' cars while begging for alms and warned those repatriated not to ever return to the city except they want to face prosecution.Another FCTA official, Oludare Atere of the Social Development Secretariat, vowed that the FCTA will not relent in ensuring that beggars, hawkers and commercial sex workers are removed from Abuja streets. He advised the repatriated beggars to seek meaningful livelihoods in their respective states of origin.Mararaba residents have also expressed concerns for the under-aged children, whose lives are endangered at the roadsides and on top of pedestrian bridges. They criticized the state and federal governments for not showing enough concern for their plights.Barrister Chuks Adolphy, a resident, wondered what has happened to the fundamental objectives of state policy as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria. "Beggars are Nigerians whose interests are protected in Chapter 2 of the policy," he explained. He blamed the Federal Government for going against the policy by concentrating the wealth of the nation in the hands of a few instead of the majority.According to him, the constitution forbids that the economic system be operated in such a manner as to permit the concentration of wealth or the means of production and exchange in the hands of few individuals or of a group."The policy also implores government to ensure suitable and adequate shelter, suitable and adequate food, reasonable national minimum living wage, old age care and pensions, and unemployment, sick benefits and welfare of the disabled to all citizens," he said.He criticized the FCTA's repatriation of beggars to their states of origin and said it goes against the following aspect of the policy that reads thus: "For the purpose of promoting national integration, it shall be the duty of the State to provide adequate facilities for and encourage free mobility of people, goods and services throughout the federation and to secure full residence rights for every citizen in all parts of the federation.Barrister Adolphy appealed to government to come up with laudable empowerment programmes that will accommodate and turn the lives of beggars around. "Nobody prays to be a beggar and the economic situation in the country is terrible," he added. He said the children of beggars need to be sent to schools in order not to become security risks in future."The state's policy also mandates government to eradicate illiteracy by providing where practicable free, compulsory education from primary to university level.Another resident, Amina Jimoh, criticized the beggars and accused some of them of engaging in the activity to make easy money. "Some lazy women carry other people's children on rent to beg on streets and this is child abuse," she warned.According to her, those children stay under sun and rain daily without any future.Amina appealed to social welfare officials in state and federal government offices to start rescue missions in saving the children."The children presently have no future and are abused on the streets daily, which doesn't speak well of our country. If we abuse our future leaders in such manner then we are doomed," she added. |
edoyad: Arsenal will not sign Suarez, that one I can bet my username on. I am truly convinced that demented Frenchman plans to use Giroud as his point man this season, may be his contribution to the France world cup preparations.I will take you up on the name change the only thing that will change it is Luis Suarez, Liverpool claiming 50 million is joking especially if Madrid does not bid or compete with AFC which seems likely. A clause is a clause. Liverpool is interpreting it foolishly and they know it. Per Liverpool owner asking about what AFC is smoking, well you signed Carroll for 35 Milla. The joke is on you. |
AFC fans need a new signing so badly that any name excites. Who be Bernard? Sounds like a plumbers name. Any name will do I guess even Yerima ![]() |
Traffic was gangster but truth be told you turned at the wrong place causing more traffic. That doesn't deserve a slap from anyone but you became a tool for them to make money turning at the wrong place same with one way people. |

Seems Villanova has suffered a relapse, Barca to announce departure at 730pm tonight. Very sad for Tito. Wish him a quick recovery if true Who takes over? AVB, Laudrup ![]() |
So Manchester United bid for Cesc is confirmed on BBC. It's now left for Barca to decide which I think they will be willing to sell for the right price. Also do Arsenal need him? I think Barca still owes money on Cesc plus we have a first refusal on him. If United miss out on Cesc I think they will settle for the versatility of Fellani. It's going to be a long summer. I just hope there is someone under the radar that Arsenal is targeting cos as soon as it comes up Napoli especially hijacks the deal. AFC needs to move fast. |

proudlysports: I think the problem we have is that most clubs now know we have money and seem to want more than we are willing to pay for players. Arsene Wenger in his usual way is calling their bluff. I still believe we will sign Higuain and Caesar this season. There are chances we will sign one more name whom I won't say now so I don't get into trouble again but Ive hinted before in the past.lol even BBC gets it wrong sometimes. Sports journalism is all about speculation and opinions, keep breaking |
The Genesis of the problem Ameachi was loyal to President Umaru Yaradua. Consider Yaradua Jrole in his ascension to power and read between the lines. Amaechi through the NGF wanted better transparency in the disbursement of revenue accruing from oil export among the three tiers of government. GEJ relocated NLNG and Air Force base to Bayelsa from Port Harcourt Bayelsa and Rivers have disputes over oil Wells. Amaechi opted for an escrow fund to be established pending court settlement but Bayelsa still earns from it till now. In my mum's village they don't kill the python. If it comes to you home it is a sign of a bad omen so at least not as common. |
Have you considered the possibility that your friend is porn addict and not really gay. Port addiction like most addictions takes you further than it is normal. Once one is addicted to porn the brain gets bored of everyday sex acts and moves to other categories like fetishism, transsexual and gay. Core porn addicts here will understand what am saying. So I would suggest you have a talk about him using your phone for porn browsing first. Then talk about other issues unless of course you are an addict yourself. |

Afam4eva: The obvious answer to this question will be security. But isn't there a way around it such that our residential houses will be open just like the Americans do theirs. I think fences take away the beauty that a house is supposed to add to the environment and it also makes sure that there's no uniformity. Every compound is like a country on it's own. Why can't we borrow a leaf from the way American suburbs look like.Actually the real reason is an ineffective land reform. When we learn to document our lands and know where our ownership starts and ends then yes it could change. In my village, most places are still without fences but once a person chooses to build a huge mansion he tries to secure as much space as possible to avoid future disputes. Many die through land disputes you know. However there are places in Lagos that are like the place you just posted check Nicon Town Lekki, Mobil Estate near Chevron office and Cooperative villa estate. They just have the entrance gates and its really a beauty without fences |
I would disagree slightly, everything depends on the platform for making an impact. Bill Gates through his work at the Gates Foundation is giving billions out to education, health and research. Education gives a person a chance to succeed.Health is wealth. Gates has the world as his platform so he is impacting more folks out there. Abramovich is an industrialist in Moscow and London but his philanthropy in remote regions of Chutokca could open the region to greater things in future. To cut the long story short, industrialists should also be philanthropists. It is a way to give back. No one way is better to solve anything, but both together lead to endless opportunities. |
You can't go wrong when as a victim you remain happy. It confuses the silent one. Avoid any vice during the period. Watch tv, laugh loudly, help with chores without been asked. Greet them in the morning and evening. Pray and thank God for your spouse. It works like magic but stick with your decision until you guys can talk reasonably. |

Ada Nri1: If Dangote gets the monopoly of this tomato business then poor man is in trouble! Fresh tomato will become a luxury and canned tomatoes, well, let's just say that you'll buy them at any price Dangote puts. How is the poor man in trouble? When you understand how much waste in tomato business then you will know how important this is. By the time tomato is transported for sale from North to South the price quadruples. A basket of tomatoes depending on the season is 700 to 1000, if it survives to the South it sells for 4000 or more. We produce the capacity we need but waste 900000 tonnes, Dangote will convert the 900000 to paste and create jobs doing that and he is putting poor man in trouble? Abi you dey import tomato paste? ![]() |
Just wanted to correct an impression here, a house is not a legacy. For all I know, you could have a coke head son who sells it for peanuts when you die. Yes it is good for old age after retirement. Also here in Nigeria for a business loan. But it has its downsides, I could build a house Lagos and in my old age the Lagos noise gets too much and I choose Calabar Instead and choose to rent plus if you have a huge family your house becomes default relocation spot for many coming to your town adding to costs and maybe trouble The summary is in all things housing choose to make it a home whether renting or owning. |
edoyad: Sharp Sharp to sign players and coaches, sharp sharp to sell them. That's the philosophy directionless clubs operate with. We on the other hand sign coaches who will spend two decades with us and players who stay for half their professional careersEvery thing is pre planned at Arsenal. I think they are waiting for the month of June to end in order to close the years book. Another reason is to delay for other special effects like increase in tickets prices. It's all planned just pause for effects |
June 23rd is International Widows Day.: The Plight of Widows Around the World – reveals that there are an estimated 245 million widows worldwide, 115 million of whom live in poverty and suffer from social stigmatization and economic deprivation purely because they have lost their husbands. Please say a prayer and an encouraging word today. God bless and comfort our widows. |
Are they illegal in Nigeria? Not from what I have seen. Plus I think they pay taxes indirectly in Lagos so how. |
The major problem we face is a lack of effective town planning and land reforms. We don't plan for population increase. Over the years the population in this axis has increased dramatically. Maybe a flyover will reduce the pain for a while but me thinks, we need to develop our waterways. By water Badore to VI Civic Centre is less than 30 minutes, repair and open up the alternative route from Ogombo axis before they fence everywhere with houses. |
Very wrong name... |
