Lessons Learnt: Ball Boys mind the occupational Hazard ![]() |
Blaming the EPL for Nigeria's footbal failures is like blaming car invention for road accidents. How many players in yesterday's team play in the EPL and how does watching EPL translate to the field? The truth is we have not produced enough players in the past 7 years compared to the years before. We/NFF lack a football identity And of course our league needs to work starting with having a Championship winning team based in Lagos. Until then, the easiest option is to play any style apart from Spain. We just don't have the talent don't kid yourself. |
If at all there is anyone or anything to blame, then blame parents/citizens. I believe the success of any child is linked to how much time the parents spend with them at home. Our demography in Nigeria has changed, parents (mum and dad) don't have as much time due to work routine and economic changes. Kids are joining cults is a shame, kids get sexually abused every time etc. Issue is if a parent doesn't communicate then you can't figure it out. Structurally, government needs to tweak a few things,I will never understand why a primary school will be accredited without sports facilities, even a five aside pitch is enough. Kids learn differently and with sports energy is diverted to good use, helps the learning process. Pension pull for teachers (both private and public) to stem migration and improve remuneration. Planning: Based on data available, Nigeria allocates/invests a huge sum in education, not enough BUT we should never have so much kids out of school or have the low level of quality based on what we currently spend. We lack planning and we don't use data effectively. For instance what schools are doing well and any plans to look at what they are doing right and implement at a poor school? Are some places over schooled while other places lack, leading to over population? A few things need to be done but the problem is not easy to solve |

The new English core strategy is purely economic and it shows the club is learning its lessons and the purse will not be as tight as it used to be. Having a core gives the club more stability and even if a player chooses to go elsewhere he will command huge sums as long as the premier league maintains its money making status. The truth is even if Manchester City will pay more the English player's likelihood of moving is less compared to a foreigner. Local folks don't like moving but foreigners have nothing to lose. |
To avoid wahala, If you want 300 guests only, print 200 invitation cards. Where is your wedding? Location matters a lot if it is in Maiduguri , you will look for guests. Even if in Lagos there are places folks dont like going to for reasons like traffic etcDo a Tuesday wedding, always works Avoid locations where both parents are based. Just tell your guests |

Boat transportation enlightenment Build more bridges rather than roundabouts. Ajah roundabout to Ado road needs a bridge instead instead. Create industrial zones in every local government through entrepreneurial incentives like tax breaks Maintain adequate records of population in fact effective statistics and maximum capacity for cities. Each estate needs a maximum number of occupants and based on that access/exits would be developed. Design better bus stops Design better bus parks Ban seriously, very seriously sirens and escort idiots Build heliports Car pool discounts at the toll gate |
How many people has okada killed compared to motor in this country? Would be an interesting stat |
An IPAD is a tool and for some churches it is for efficiency. As long as the preacher is reading from the bible, where he is reading it from shouldn't be a problem if the goal is to preach the word. However, I see some folks are showy with this tools but again that's a personal issue. Even the Catholic church is allowing IPADs for mass so it is what it is, tools don't matter just the word. In terms of distraction, for some it is the female usher or the projector screen or whoever, its all relative and it just based on how things are used. |
Problem is, we built a 60 thousand capacity stadium in Abuja, too big, with tracks and very bad for TV. The Lagos stadium is worst, why have Teslim Balogun stadium by the side of a national stadium? To cut a long story short, privatize the stadiums at a lower amount to save its legacy. |
norrisman: When Djouoru was playing his heart out at the beginning of 2010/2011 where wan Van Pu$$ie? On the treatment table collecting a salary (like he had been doing for the preceeding 6 years) without contributing anything. Djourou got inujred in the Newcastle game and went off at half time when the team was leading 4 nil. we all know what the result was at the end of that game.In an ideal world what you are saying would be true but we don't live in one. Using your examples, Bridge is English, was at his peak and a club willing to spend much needed him and his agent negotiated well. Carroll is young, English and a striker, strikers earn more than defenders and goal keepers generally. Plus just because a player is bought for 35 million does not mean he earns so much. Carroll is at 80k and I think Cazorla might be higher. Etoo has paid his dues, went to Russia (a lesser league but rich) Neymar is Brazilian which is a plus when he moves to Europe but now he is at Santos, he can't be paid more than the going market rate in Brazil due to economic factors. In all this, nationality, agent tactic, playing position determines your pay. This is why Southampton focuses on developing midfielders cos they sell more and why Arsenal crowds its playing staff with midfielders in order to groom them and even sell higher. This is the market in football, Djourou will have to kidnap Messi and Ronaldo in order to earn 250k a week, he is a defender and he plays for Switzerland not Italy or Brazil. |
coogar: transfer fees have nothing to do with wage bill. the selling club gets the transfer fees, the player get the wages! i reiterate, why is the difference between the wage bill of both clubs negligible and united have more quality in their squad than arsenal? The total wages that appear on the balance sheet is different from that of the playing personnel. So, AFC wages in a balance sheet includes administrative, coaching, academy and professional player wages. So if AFC has 10 more u18 pros (which is possible due to its vast scouting network and kiddie investment) than MUFC it will surely add up and close the gap. The real difference is to look at the 25 man squad and compare their wages. That number is more than 15 million. |
Funny people, didn't we have Lula visit Nigeria few years ago, why is this suddenly a great achievement? abi na because na female presido Lula encourages investment in Nigeria ABUJA, Nigeria – President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said Tuesday he will encourage Brazilian companies to invest in Nigeria, as part of his efforts to have developing nations strengthen economic and political ties. “Nigeria, having the largest population of Africans in the world will be an extraordinary trade partner with Brazil,” Silva said at a joint news conference with President Olusegun Obasanjo, leader of the West African nation of some 130 million people. Silva said he would push Brazilian firms to visit Nigeria and form new partnerships. The two men signed a protocol to cooperate in crop production and agricultural practices. Obasanjo said he would visit Brazil, South America’s most populous country with 184 million inhabitants, for independence day celebrations on September 7. The two countries have common goals: both are pushing for permanent seats on an expanded U.N. Security Council, and both are members of the G-20 group of 20 developing nations campaigning for the United States and the European Union to end all export subsidies to farmers by 2010. Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos, boasts a Brazilian quarter settled by freed slaves who returned in the early 1900s and now hold yearly carnivals. Nigeria is the world’s seventh largest oil exporter and Brazil’s fifth biggest trade partner. Silva arrived Monday from Cameroon and left Nigeria on Tuesday for Ghana. He will then visit Guinea-Bissau, a former Portuguese colony like Brazil, and Senegal. Africa is a sizable market for Brazilian exports, receiving some U.S.$2.3 billion worth of goods in 2002. Based on style, Nigeria is closer to raise a team like Chelsea than Barcelona. NFF through their policies in the past 15 years screwed up our system and now we need to make a few tweaks to play foot ball like Spain or Barcelona, the work requires planning and of course our local league must be up and running commercially. |
Walmart is already in Nigeria via ownership of Massmart which inturn owns the Game. For me it is a win/win for our infrastructural development and the businesses |
Coffee shop in Nigeria? Crazy brave business |
First off, you have to save your family expense for the next 6 months at least. Secondly, you mentioned your wife is into baking, if I were you I would invest in her business and expand it for her. Equipment rental business is good BUT you have to do your research, figure out location, very important. Some markets are saturated even in Abuja but be flexible to move to places with new construction going on. As an example a place like Imo State might be good one since the govt is spending heavily on construction, do your research, watch news and know when the next new building is happening.Get your second used equipment in Lagos and transport to your location. Don't be afraid and desperate so you don't get swindled. |
The question is, why are you coming back? And what do you bring? Houses, cars etc are fine but again without a plan it is nothing. Being back 5 months and starting a new business, all is well. Dropped my American accent sha, except in government or private offices but be humble and extremely focused for it to pay dividends |
@Poster, this is a sad and unfortunate situation. Before you do what ever, here are some few things to ponder about. First wife counts for nothing if she gives birth to a son. I am assuming that with this situation and how it happened, this is obviously an issue depending on traditions Have you discussed with your husband? And what did he say? Do you work? Do you have some savings? Are you interested in your happiness and can you trust again? I won't advice you to stay or live but its time to calm down, think and take some actions that are beneficial to you. Be strong! |

The issue with this question is, if it is free how does the school employ and compete for the best talents/lecturers/students in the market place? To get quality most times, you have to pay more so in that case I guess the question should be what is the quality of the private university graduate? Economically, demand is high for education based on good morals (non-cultism), non-strike, safety for students etc, so the government can counter this by making other public institutions great places.
They will provide free education once the govt gives them the resources needed to establish and run a university for free.
I see your view point and I support it in as much as some folks feel otherwise. As an example, from its inception Madonna University ran on generators for close to four years before NEPA finally connected them. This are some of the problems that private universities face in Nigeria. Again the issue should be about quality. If I were to advice any Christian private school administrator, I would say no freebies BUT focus on QUALITY and charge what you think is reasonable to achieve that. Harvard was founded by Christian clergy but today the price is beyond most peoples means but they have the QUALITY. |
How do folks get their license? No training required and most times you don't even need to be at Road safety office for that. On the other hand insecurity is an issue that cannot be neglected, people get robbed waiting in traffic or at a traffic light at night hence no need to stop, you might have a good intention to obey but if you see gun once, your eye go clear ![]() |
For me the issue is not whether it is English or pidgin, it is actually the poor reading culture. Plus you limit your market to the local Nigerian market; no Booker Prize and chances for an international publisher to publish and expand your market is limited. However, if you can add illustrations and make it a cartoon novel I think you might have a market with good publicity. |
