No matter how they try to position it, setting the bar incredibly high for Nigerians is bare-faced discrimination. Not just discrimination based on nationality but also racial discrimination. I wonder why a company would look at the mass of the largest collection of black people in the world (170 million strong), and decide that no good can come out of the country.

Methinks you're being paranoid. I don't think anyone has singled out Nigerians to be discriminated against but rather, the site is wisely trying to manage the population of freelancers it has to make the site a reasonable workplace for both lancers and clients. I for one registered with my full Nigerian details about a year ago and got approved with zero fuss. But times have changed and there has to be a workable balance. I have a friend who's a Chartered Accountant living in Canada that tried to register and got rejected. You just have to look at Freelancer.com to understand what I mean. Within two minutes of making a job post on Freelancer, you'd have at the very least, 50 (I'm not exaggerating) applications from mostly Indians and Pakistani's. It's not just the overwhelming number of applications but the fact that 97% of the applications will come from India and Pakistan and it's stifling talent from lesser populated regions. I bet if Upwork were to be left open, we'd stand no chance against the Indians and Pakistanis who are undoubtedly skilled in various fields. Quora is currently facing similar problems with Indians and Indian topics overwhelmingly dominating discussions as a result of what can best be described as patriotic Upvotes. I believe the need to strike a balance between the number of job seekers and ensuring a healthy spread of applicants is what's behind Upwork's now more frequent rejections. If you can't find your way in, you just need to find a way to deal with it. This chant of racism is becoming stale.

Hello Fam, has anyone withdrawn money via Payoneer lately? I learnt they've been deactivating the "send money" function for some users. Would anyone know if Upwork users were affected? Secondly has anyone used the Paypal Upwork withdrawal in Nigeria? I'm thinking of channelling my funds through it for my next withdrawal. Nigeria is just a wasteland, we can never do what other developed countries do without involving stories that touch. Ever since this taxify started, it has been one bad story after another. a not so similar situation had happened to me. After I'd withdrew the client requested a refund back and Upwork had to make a debit order, so as soon as I finish any work on the platform they (Upwork) deduct the money and refund the client.

My Advice: Leave the money there(on Upwork) for a while. I like the fact that you've already contacted Upwork support. Just leave the fund, say the next two-weeks to see how it goes. One thing I'm certain is if you withdraw the excess, Upwork will still get the fund back, if there's actually a system error that resulted in cash loss from their end.

Thanks, I'd resolved not to touch the funds also and see how it all plays out.

In addition to the previous suggestions and advise make sure you keep a copy of your chat with Upwork customer support for future evidence that you reported the situation ( as a matter of fact have a screen shot of subsequent chat and conversations)..... and wait a little longer than weeks if you must touch the money although I do not subscribe to that.

Hello fam, been a while I made a post on this thread but I'd like to know your thoughts on something strange happening with my Upwork withdrawal. I initiated a Direct Debit withdrawal from my Upwork account a couple of days ago and sure enough, I received a Naira debit alert in my bank account within 15 minutes and went about my normal business. A few hours later, I received a notification from Upwork that the transaction had failed and the funds (Dollars) had been returned to my Upwork account less the $1 transaction fee. I logged into my transaction page and my account had truly been refunded. Funny thing was that the initial credit to my Bank account stayed untouched so in essence, I'd been credited locally and same funds have been returned to my account.
I contacted Upwork CC explaining what had happened and got a perfunctory response about it being a system error and that I should re-initiate another withdrawal for it to go through. I followed up with a more detailed explanation of what had happened and hours later I got a hands-in-the-air response about them being helpless in a situation the system tells them there's been an error. Apparently in situations like that, all they're obligated to do is to return the funds ($) to the original source which they've done. So here I am stuck with money that I shouldn't have and I'm not sure how to go about it. Anyone faced anything similar? Victor101, stagger, Kaycodes, anyone faced anything similar? Any advice?

You seem to be knowledgable about this. What is the way forward to liberate it thus not requiring the password or even user id?

If you truly know the original owner, then give it to him to remove his password - that's the only way. If you attempt a reset, you'll be permanently locked out then you'll know what it means to really be iCloud locked!

Your phone isn't iCloud locked. The phone's apple password is probably what's giving you issues as it has to be entered to enable you make purchases on the appstore and maybe do a phone reset. Where you'll have problems is if you accidentally lock yourself out and need to reset your phone.
An iPhone without an apple password can be used conveniently but it is a ticking time bomb as it's hardly yours.
