Mysql is not well promoted and implemented, if you need to roll with the big ricks, then Oracle OCA,OCP is the way to go.
Though you can start with it........... shocked sad

drexx: @pasnet Ok thanks. Do u think. I would be able to gain real expertise in self study? Al the same tanks 4 d info
The guy pretty knows what he is fuckinly talking about. Programming is not mechanics or auto-pilot engineering. Programming is basically code, codes and more codes.

So if you can just sit down and read the right and relevant stuff, then you would start seeing result in no time you can call yourself a programmer.

Javanian:

Wrong, i learnt Java without and IDE.

This issue has been debated on this forum a lot of times, The Job of an IDE is to get the Job done easier, faster and in a more efficient way.

Hmmmm
fallguy: Example of a bad design . Java. Yeah, popular all mighty java. java is still obese. Java attacked the complexity inherent in modern software creation by providing so many classes and base libraries in addition to a language core and new versions keep swelling the add ons combine that
Please @fallguy dont attack java like t.

passing....

Nope, nobody calls my Java *****.

Though i am not really into the C family but you cant tell me that java is obese. Because its not.
I dont know the world that you guys are from or the level of your expertise in any of the technologies that you use but one thing that i do know is that java is not so IDE dependent. Unlike C#, .Net and the like. C and C++ are still very much ok but whats the essence if i get to write the same sets of code that took you a whole day in minutes.

Dont think that i am a kind of programmer that is IDE dependent, i learn the standard, life cycle, and structure of whatever technology that am using my IDE for. If i truely understand what my technology requires, then why notuse an IDE to better optimize my work and make me move really fast.

I get what you 'll tring to say but java is not just so IDE dependent. It's just like setting up a new server when you have the cloud. Everything is moving............

lordZOUGA: this guy just said that java programming language has a bad design... Am not sure he said that java developers are bad programmers..
They dare not say that java programmers are bad programmers, grin simply because that are one too
Programming / Re: Of The Greatest Programmers, Seriously In Need Of Algorithsm. Pls Help. by Kennyinusa(m): 1:44pm On Dec 28, 2012
xterra2: Good idea, let me help you a lot
Simplest way to do that ( i do this always - it's my way ) is to use good old pen and paper - use a book or multiple A4 papers
and THINK then write down your though at this point it won't be something useful
Then later on, again think, the following day again the same thing, when you are free but during classes hours e.g 8-2 think - jot down ideas
Keep doing this in 1 week, compile everything and you'll see you're done, <b style="font-weight:50px; color:red;">don't worry about algorithm</b>
Start to code it parts by parts till you'll have a complete application
Thats what i do, i always code my ideas in parts i.e do A jump to K, go to L go to Z then come back to B

Come back after one week with your response

I support every thing that @xterra2 has said exceept the u dont need to worry about algorithm.
Note this in programing <b>The fact that you are seeing result doesn't make it right</b> There is always a convention and a standard for doing everything, including writing of codes, the programming paradigm as a whole.
You necessary dont need to be a algorithm writer but that doesn't stops you from knowing the basic.

Programming / Re: Interested In Moderating This Section? by Kennyinusa(m): 1:36pm On Dec 28, 2012
I have watched nairaland grow. I visit this sector at least thrice in a day but there aint nothing to see.
Am aint paranoid about the fact that the prevois moderator have done much of a perfect and it would be Saddening if i say that i wanna be the moderator. What i would just say is that the bouncing rate of this section is still the higher in the website and some people including myself feels secured if we see more able, experienced, and robust gathering of IT proffessionals in this part of Nairaland.
Programming / Re: How Do I Retrieve Fields From The A Java Derby Database by Kennyinusa(m): 10:03am On Nov 15, 2012
I personally do not use Java DB but i also encountered such probs too, and solving it is quite simple.

First of all (introduction- Olamide)
You would need the Java DB driver, i do not know maybe you have it bundled with your IDE but you sha would need it.

Afterward you would have to specify that you project need to work on a JavaDB, just right click on your project then go to properties...

You should know that your ResultSet work as a List so... You can get your way around that by just going through some few materials...

Lastly Google is your friend

cool,

cheesy
Hope that you are high on enery because to me you aint. And there isn't really somethng like mate, because if he is better than you then he would always be better, so the best thing i can say to you is to just take it upon yourself to be better and then set your long terms and sort terms target and always, always
make sure that you meet them.

Do not set outrageous target for yourself and always remember that there is always time for improvemenet as nobody is perfect and some people would always be better than you do. Just develop yourself and do not kill yourself

Am an final year student in Computer Science.
Am just a one and half years old in programming java.

Am into

JavaSE
JavaFx
JavaME( Starter)
Mysql

IDE
Netbeans
Notepad
Eclipse( @joshua recommended)

How do you handle requirements/deadline?
I try my best to finish my code o time, because that is basically what i do.

Agile or Scrum?

I do not know what Agile or Scrum is embarassed

Do you write tests before coding?

I just declare my universal variables and the behaviour of my method.

TDD? Subversion?

How do you continue to improve on your skills?

By getting the latest books. though some people might dis agree with me, but the fact is that you do not expect me to start learing HTML with some book published in the 90's or niether is learing JSF with a 2007 book cool. reading the latest books keeps you informed of the latest technology.

And again, i am a team player, i code along side 2 of my friends, who are really good programmers too.

What book will you recommend and why?

I personally have finished more than 5 hard copy books, and a host of other PDF's. when it comes to my world which is Java, Dietel Series is the way.
And just like i said earlier, do not learn Java with How to program java Edition 6 when we have 7, 8, 9 and below.
Always go for the latest books....
And again the documentstion of oracle websites helps alot

Final word

Please guys, correct me if am wrong but i do not believe in being a jack of all trade. If you do .Net, let it be .Net, if u are into Java, let it be Java. though it is possible for someone to be into lots of stuffs( i have them as friends) they get really screwed because they basically do not know what they want and they never get satisfied with what they know. I love java, and i can code lots of stuffs with it; be it mobile(ME), Enterprise(EE), Standard(SE), web (Servlets, JSF). And almost any other technology can be built round it. So i just stick with it.

Javanian: https://www.nairaland.com/1033088/connecting-remote-database
thanks @javanian

Though the thread was helpful but it wasn't what i was looking for.
Let me put it like this

1) How do i set up a web server or remote database
2) How do i make my application connect to the database.

I have a domain name already and i would like to host the database on my domain. And mind you, am not thinking of building or designing any website or nothing...

J ø $ h ù á:
and please note if you dont have an abdroid phone like ME, you need to get a simulator.

it is to test your applications.

if you get an eclipse ide, you can configure android directly from it and download the simulator.
The problem with me is that my system is rarely connected; I.e. I download wif ma fone, so if u ve any direct download link; me woud so much appreciate.

If the simulator that u are talking about is embedded in the android SDK, then I think that I have it.

Nairaland / General / Who Is On nairaland by Kennyinusa(m): 7:01pm On Aug 27, 2012
Nairaland.com; i virtually jumped into this webpage about 5years ago but it took me 2years to register an account. I find this website so interesting that i visit it almost everytime i am on the internet. I find it ammusing that we have around 913,000 members in this community but everytime i come in contact with people, i sometimes ask and the reply is that no, some even ask me what nairaland is; i freak out everytime i hear that, i tell them to register and be a part of the community. Most of them do not register....

So who do we blame?
Seun Osewa..... Nope
But i think that he has a hand in thisi too. This website needs all the popularity that it can get. I have never seen any publication that in any way said something about nairaland except for Oge Okoye in the movie Blackberry babes.

I am taking it upon myself and upon every member of this website to do all it can to make sure that we clock One Million Registered users come december. Maybe we can get to host a get together party on that.

Seun Osewa, i haven't met you, but thank you for creating such a wonderful avenue for great nigerians to communicate, collaborate, and share information, resources and knowledge. But your work aint complete if you aint doing more than enough to make this site bigger. I must say that its better, it has always been better. Thank you seun..

I know that some motherfu***** would still abuse me but am ready...............

Business / Forex Fundamental Geeks. Strictly Fundamental Analysis... by Kennyinusa(m): 10:53am On Jun 19, 2012
I personally feel that technical analysis sucks and i believe that we have Fundamental geeks that 'chop their money' at least twice a week. Feel free to help others with your system(i would personally give out my system before the day runs ut).
But their is a problem, and that problem is the Forex brokers as 'They no want make we chop our money'. But there are various system that bypass their malicious restrictions I have personally lost about 300pips with technical analysis and i recovered with just one trade with Fundamental analysis.

For example SIGLite closes my profit with their bullshit 2minute rule.

Career / Re: Any Hope With 3.49 CGPA? by Kennyinusa(m): 12:41pm On May 19, 2012
My first question would be..
Why did you attend the university? was it for 3.5 or 4.5 or to get educated. I understand how frustrating it might be after all your effort but believe me GP is GP it doesn't really change anything about you, your potentials, your life. Just be determined, set some goals and then continue to work hard.
Some of you were talking about going for a Masters, and if the grade there too doesn't make much sense, then they would probably tell you to go for a Doctorate degree after then what........

There is more to success than GP. Please
