FOOD FOR THOUGHT

I'm not holding brief for any criminal, I just want us to be aware of the double standard we ignorantly exhibit.

I've not watch this man's confessional statement but...
I'm surprised We didn't see anything wrong with this media trial? After all, this man, like some of our beloved politicians, has not been convicted of any crime and he wasn't even caught red-handed, so to speak.
Examine yourself if you claim the trial of politicians are media trial because a court of competent jurisdiction had convicted them but you see nothing wrong in not Giving this man the opportunity of a court of competent jurisdiction before you start condemning him and exposing his wife and innocent children to public disgrace and psychological trauma.
Maybe we can blame the wife, but certainly not the children.
If some of us had concluded that exposing { corrupt} politicians in the media before they're convicted by a law court Is a media trial, then what is THIS?
When racists want to say something racist, they start by saying "I'm not a racist, but"

Immediately I saw this "I'm not holding brief for any criminal, I just want us to be aware of the double standard" in you post, I became certain that your comment belong to the dust bin.

Do you want me to dig out hate speeches by individuals from a particular ethnic group against the Igbos? Should we use that as a yardstick to generalize against such ethnic group? Una mumu no get part 2, I swear.
Speech of one man that got the endorsement of most Ibos. Speech of one man that wasn't condemned by any of your elders.

Fifty years from now when you try to rewrite history, as you are doing with what happened in the sixties, our kids will find it quite easy to tell the world that their ancestors weren't the bad guys who dished out the first blow. Internet will keep on record that Kanu started the madness and had the approval of many Ibos.

Live with that reality.

There are two ways of doing things; the easy way (usually slow) or hard way (usually very fast and more effective grin). The northerners chose the latter. A certain easternwind on nairaland has no right to tell them how to do their thing.

You men that are saying yes .. hope you are not just saying so because of your mothers love to you as her child. Have you considered how she related with your father?
If your mum was also a lovely wife to your father then thats fine, however I have seen occasions where a woman would shower so much love on her children (especially to a son) but that same woman makes a terrible wife to her husband i.e. disrespect, neglect etc..
Marry a woman like that and your kids will enjoy her love while you suffer.
Fantastic thinking
Ultimately, a great mom does not equal a great wife.

What useless veritable statistics other than this, I guess you are referring to the ones ranked by Southwest propagandists, stop deceiving your people
It's all the Southwestern media propaganda.

I did a post graduate degree program in one of the Southwestern schools and I was really disappointed at the standards.

How that same institution manages to be ranked among the top three institutions in the country year after year is a mystery to me.
Education › Re: JAMB Releases Most Sought-after Universities In Nigeria (check Details) by KevinDein: 11:59am On Jun 04, 2017
ThierryJay:
This is not a matter of choosing a position. All the schools I mentioned are the most reputed universities in Nigeria based on available statistics over the years. The only one I missed was FUTO.

In any group, u have to have the best, and I've mentioned them. This does not demean other lower ranked universities. I do not understand why u feel offended. If a foreigner tells me that University of Cairo is much better than all our unis, I will not be offended cos I know it's a fact.
Available facts created by Yoruba media, I guess.
The days where the Yoruba dominated Media peddle lies as facts are long gone. Southwestern schools are no better than top schools in other regions regardless of whatever opinion you are trying to pass across as fact.

People in other regions rate their schools just as high as you do yours, hence they send their wards to these institutions. People in the middle belt don't rate UNAAB higher than Unijos, for example. Easterners are also perfectly happy with their Unizik while Northerners don't see ABU as inferior to UI.

Get used to the new status quo, Mr.

Tribalism has removed every sence of objectivity from you, this too is a killer disease. So in listing of reputable universities by Nigeria standards from southeast and south south you only saw unn and uniben, then unizik under maybe? Your condition is pathetic. In your list you included futa without FUTO, uniport, unical etc, anyway no need of talking too much since talk alone can't help your kind of condition, just look for babalawo to do some kind of deliverance for you it won't cost much
That poster you quoted is very bias.

He mentioned all the universities in Southwest as examples of top schools but listed just one or two from other regions.

Talk about blatant bias just to score some cheap points.

Of course most candidates would like to go to "hyped up" institutions. But how many of them would actually apply there as the reality, which they know, is that they may likely not make the cut. So they go for the more realistic options which translates into higher number of applicants for the lesser hyped unis. That's why they come tops in this area.

Trust me, if the union body has a way of measuring candidates' intentions regarding what they truly desire, the OAUs, Unilag and UI will take the cake.
Those schools you mentioned are top schools in their own right but you guys can actually exalt your schools without demeaning others; that's exactly what some posters on here are doing.
The same way you rate your schools over there is the same way others do theirs.
Northerners will very much chose ABU, Unijos, BUK
Easterners, UNN, Unizik

My point; accept that top schools aren't restricted to the South Western part of the country.

ThierryJay:
It is important to note that this ranking is not a true reflection of the overall standards for each university. There are factors that will influence how highly sought-after a university is. The most important ones include:

- Ease of completing academic calendar - many candidates would want to graduate without any form of delay at an affordable cost. This explains the preference for Unilorin as this is now its main selling point.

- Geographical distribution of standard universities - There are more reputable universities in the southwest (UI, OAU, Unilag, Covenant, FUTA, Unilorin, UNAAB) than in the North (ABU) or the Southeast/Southsouth (UNN, UniBen, maybe UniZik). So this means that prospective candidates are more evenly distributed among the SW universities due to tougher competition.

-Tough entry standards - Universities that are perceived to be difficult to gain admission into will generally have lesser number of applicants than other "come as you are" universities. This explains why Havard does not have the highest number of American applicants in the US. This takes nothing away from its premium status.

In short, OAU, UI, Unilag,UNN and more recently CU are still the universities to beat in Nigeria.

At the very top, OAU and UI are the real deal.
Any argument to make yourself feel good.

I bet if your hyped up institutions were top, you'll be drooling all over this thread telling anyone who cares to listen how great those institutions are and that's why everyone wants to go there.
