this is one aspect of the milito brothers that has always intrigued me. as one plays centre forward and the other centre back, they are bound to see a lot of each other during the match and conflict is almost inevitable. the family is blessed though, to have two sons playing at the highest level is amazing.

im sorry but you are the one that is out of touch and terribly so. south africa are currently in germany and were due to play about five matches three of which were cancelled. two of these matches were to be against lower tier clubs in the german leagues.now if lagerback organized these kind of friendlies i guarantee you would be calling for his head. you are trying to tell me that since the year started south africa has played fifteen friendlies?? blatant lie my friend. by the dictates of common sense alone one can see why this is not possible. we are in the fourth month of the year and each month has roughly four match days at domestic level. this basically means that from the start of the year till now there would have been only sixteen match days. assuming that matches are played at the usual rate of once a week, u r now telling me that a country whose players are largely home based and have domestic commitments would ask 23 players to leave their clubs and have been playing friendlies every week since january? please name me the fifteen teams they played.

What are the purposes of organizing friendly matches? to assess ur players capability?? no! that can be done on the training ground or even by watching them play with their clubs which largerback does. the purpose of playing friendlies is to get the team used to playing in a particular style and to pick out the players can play in that style perfectly. there is therefore no need to organize any friendly for the home based players(are they even up to ten??). he has already seen them play so he probably has a good idea of their individual ability, the purpose of his training camp is simply to pick out the players that can play lagerbacks game plan and build a team from there.

what is my point? interesting question. my point is that you should stop being negative. its like you do not want him to succeed as any and every step he takes is negative you. if our preparations are not going smoothly it is not the fault of lars lagerback but of the NFA .

having a dinner together does not impair their capacity to train. this just one way to build togetherness and morale. surely you dont think that they are going to sleep, eat and defecate on the training ground 24/7??
SportsRe: 44 Days To Worldcup : Largerback Yet To Collectively Meet With His Selections. by Kgdavid(m): 10:33pm On Apr 27, 2010
sure south africa played four friendlies this year, so? nigeria played more games than that in the nations cup. considering the fact that the core of players in the super eagles is very likely goin to contain the same old faces, they dont need too much now for them to gel properly. perhaps there might be one or two new faces in the squad but they can adjust during training. you dont need ten friendlies to acclimatize three or four players. in any case, over 90 percent of south african players are home based which means their FA can manipulate things in order for them to play friendlies when they wish. at this time of the year no player at a european club will even think of asking for permission to leave talkless of actually being granted the permission to do so. look at the teams south africa played, zimbabwe, korea, paraguay and namibia, all those nations have a relatively large number of players coming from their respective national leagues. which european nation has played a friendly in the last two months? lagerback was appointed in late febuary which means he basically has been handed no international break till mid may. the guy was stopped from meeting his players in london not even abuja talkless of taking them away for friendlies.

what should be done then? you went friendly matches but im sure ur aware that in the absence of any FIFA endorsed international break, no player is leaving his club for any friendly. you complaining about them not knowing each other and yet you dont want them having a dinner before they leave, so they are supposed to get together and begein to train immediately even from the airport if possible? i would love to know what exactly you people want lagerback to do.
RomanceRe: What Position Do You Play? by Kgdavid(op): 1:34am On Apr 27, 2010
for the sake of those who do not understand football,
the goal keeper is the last line of defense and he is the only player allowed to use his hands to catch the ball. the goal keeper is dependent of his defenders to stop all attacks before they get to him.

defenders are players whose specific task is to stop oppsition players particularly strikers from scoring.

midfielders are tasken within winning the ball back when the opposition have it, ensuring that theirteam retains possesion of the ball and creating opportunities for their strikers.

wingers are an extension of the midfield with the more specific task of creating chances and getting the ball to the 18 yard box( where the opponents goal posts are situated) they are usually very good dribblers

strikers are the guys tasked with scoring goals.
RomanceWhat Position Do You Play? by Kgdavid(op): 1:26am On Apr 27, 2010
there are four basic positions in a football team. the goal keeper, defenders, midfielders and strikers. each of these positions has peculiar characteristics which correspond to the characteristics of different kinds of lovers. see if you can pick out your position.

goal keeper, very dependent on his/her partner and is highly emotional. tends to get jealous easily and will not easily forgive a serious grudge(i.e a goal conceded). goal keepers are best partnered with defenders.

defenders, mr nice guy. is always there when you need support. defenders may not be the most exciting or spontaneous partners but they are very caring. they also tend to dependent and when paired with the wrong partner they easily become pushovers. they are best partnered with goal keepers or fellow defenders.

midfielders, the go getta. they are strong and dependable although they may be strong willed and bossy. midfielders tend to be argumentative. they are best partnered with strikers or wingers.

wingers, they are full of energy and they love life. always willing to try new things and are usually on the wild side. while fun to be with, wingers are hard to please and may be prone to cheating. they are best partnered with midfielders.

strikers, these are people who tend to be more productve and exciting when given the right encouragement. they need a strong figure in their lives and might be clingy. strikers are left heartbroken and after a break up and may retreat into their shell. they are best partnered with midfielders.

im a defender, what are you? smiley

idiot how has ibrahim failed to establish himself on u-20. he was the top 3 best in u-17 after that he went to rwanda 2009 he was nigeria best player there, then egypt 2009 he was also the joint best him and nwankwo, and you say that he has not establish himself. if keita, olofinjana, ayila, ajilore and etuhu likes let them have experience one thing is for sure they are not half as good as ibrahim. how can someone be experienced when you are not calling him up or playing him
ibrahim might be more skilful than etuhu but he is not necessarily better than him. why? because they do not play the same position! one is an attacking midfielder and the other is a defensive midfielder so while etuhu cannot begin to dribble or score like rabiu might, rabiu certainly cannot break up play or provide the element of physicality that etuhu does. the most reasonable basis for comparison between r.ibrahim and Etuhu and co would be their respective impacts when playing for the same team. as they have never been in the same team such a comparison is void. an alternative approach would be to compare the impact of the two payers at their respective clubs where one(etuhu) is a first team regular in the english premier league and the other(rabiu) cannot even make first team in the portugese league. ibrahim may go on to become something special but for now he does not belong in the company of nigerias elite. apart from all this, i really have to ask if etuhu, olofinjana, ayila and kaita were the only midfielders you saw in that list? there are attacking midfielders who made the list so compare him to players such as haruna lukman and not dickson etuhu. the world cup is not a place to garner experience, it is the place where u use the experience gained elsewhere. the process of gaining experience involes a lot of mistakes some of which may be extremely costly particularly in tournaments like the world cup where elimination is always a possibility. i have been following rabiu ibrahim and haruna lukman since u17 level and i am convinced that lukman is just as talented as ibrahim and far more mature and consistent. their roles are slightly different but haruna would able to do the job.

semid4life it is official you are a goat. haruna lukman is a box to box midfilder although he is good he is not a playmaker, ajilore, don't get poo twisted amodu gave this guy chance but he played terribly bad he is not nigeria class to play attacking midfield he cannot dribble, pass or have any technique so i will say out of option.
emmanuel ekpo i like him but his name is not on 45 man list. onyekachi okonkwo a player that voghts gave chance but the guy is simply not nigeria class, not have as good as mikel talkless of ibrahim. and to add salt to injury you say that you will take ramon azeez in eagles over ibrahim 'you are really mad. and please don't mention ajilore as an option for attacking midfield because the guy is totally rubbish in that position
thats not true. ajilore has a lot of technical ability. vogts gave okonkwo a chance how many years ago? so u dont think the guy has the capacity to have improved? i saw this guy play against real madrid this season and i was impressed.

^ u need to learn manners. respect yourself. who says we should select five defensive midfielders? where did anyone on this thread say so? so not selecting ibrahim is equivalent to selecting five defensive midfielders? first of all etuhu, mikel, olofinjana and ayila are not useless, they are under utilised by nigeria. i watch these guys play for their clubs especially etuhu so i know what i am saying. in attacking midfield there are other options apart from ibrahim. haruna has been in good form for his club, ajilore looked really good when i last saw hm play and okonkwo is a much improved player since he made his super eagles debut. this guy now has invaluable champions league experience. i think emmanuel ekpo also made the list. these are enough players to choose one or two or three attacking midfielders from.

is rabiu ibrahim talented? yes
is he ready for the world cup? no!
the world cup is not a training ground and serious countries do not take players that wont make an impact. even at under 20 level he was drifting in and out and does not yet have the ability to dominate a game. if he should be included solely for the purpose of developing his talent then the squad will be ridiculous as stannley okoro, fortune chukwudi, sani emmanuel, ramon azeez and co would have have an equal claim to be there. after all these are our brightest prospects no? rabiu is not living up to expectations at the moment so sadly he cant justify a place in the squad.

i guess you did not read where i said he is not so strong defensively or you dont understand what i meant by attacking fullback? in any case olic did not "sodomise" anyone. evra had a lapse in defense and olic pounced on it. if that is what you call sodomizing then ur lack of knowledge of football is exposed.

great game today! it was really open although the first half was a little devoid of any clear cut chances, the second half was much more intense. this season nani fletcher and rooney have really come of age and im particularly impressed with nani as his improvement from last season has been absolutely amazing. i enjoyed the game as there were talented players on both sides with some interesting little individual battles. scholes was supreme in the middle of the park, fletcher was all over the place as usual, nani was incredibe with the way he kept providing attacking threat and tracking back superbly, rafael did a very good job although he could work on his crosses, vidic was great as usual, evans and evra looked a bit shaky but held out. evra really must be the best attacking leftback in europe although defensively he is not so good. on tottenhams side, bale was a great attacking outlet for them, modric was dangerous with his passes and control, defoe was not too involed but this is less due to him being poor than it is to the united defense being good, dawson was solid and king was simply fantastic today. the guy is such a phenomenal player. he foiled quite a number of chances and i found myself clapping when he scored. rafael and bale had a great little battle today and over all i gotta say rafael won. he was able to stop bale from having any real impact even though he(bale) threatened united several times. at the same time he (rafael) got down the flanks well and was involved in the play. i almost forgot berbatov, he was much better today and provided a real attacking threat. however he had several goal scoring opportunities which he missed. without a doubt macheda should be on the bench for all our games now! every time he comes off the bench something happens and he seems to have a really good understanding with nani as well. good to see owen hargreaves back in he squad although he didnt play. all in all sir alex was right when he said we do not need wholescale changes to the squad. the future remains bright.

SportsRe: Lars Lagerback’s Nigeria Shown How To Quieten Argentina's Lionel Messi By Inter by Kgdavid(m): 2:44am On Apr 23, 2010
i watched both finals against argentina and although the history books will say argentina won both games and therefore are superior to nigeria, the reality on the pitch on those days was not so clear cut. in the youth cup finals messi did relatively well but not so special. at the olympics he was completely silenced and at the time some guys on an english football forum commented on how good our defenders were. the back four that day was taiwo, adeleye, apam and someone else maybe adefemi? i particularly remember apam making some great tackles. if the team is organised properly they will be able to handle messi, and higuain.

messi is not so hard to stop if you mark him properly. lucio and zanetti really did that perfectly. in the first leg against arsenal, clichy and song also did it very well.
SportsRe: How Good Was Sunday Oliseh? by Kgdavid(op): 2:33am On Apr 23, 2010
what i find disturbing is the fact that although the new crop of nigerian players look very good, there is none who looks like a really good defensive midfielder.
