Renowned Hollywood actor Will Smith, who boasts an Oscar in his accolades, recently opened up about his profound spiritual journey and the solace he found in reading the Quran during a challenging phase over the past two years.

In a recent interview, the 55-year-old multifaceted artist expressed his affinity for spirituality, citing the tumultuous nature of the preceding years as a catalyst for introspection. During this period, Smith delved into various religious texts, including the Quran, seeking solace and understanding.

Detailing his immersive experience, Smith revealed, “I embarked on a journey through the pages of the Quran, absorbing its teachings from cover to cover, particularly during the month of Ramadan this year.” His quest for enlightenment led him to appreciate the Quran's simplicity and clarity, which resonated deeply with him, facilitating a seamless comprehension of its contents.

One aspect that particularly resonated with Smith was the recurring narratives of Prophet Moses, which he found profoundly moving. Reflecting on the interconnectedness of religious scriptures, Smith noted the seamless continuity from the Torah through the Bible to the Quran, underscoring the enduring connection between them.

Drawing from his spiritual insights, Smith discussed his approach to parenting, emphasizing the ongoing nature of guiding and supporting his children, even as they transition into adulthood.

You've introduced a valuable topic with broad appeal, but your delivery is harsh and fiery. How do you expect people to heed your message when it's delivered with such intensity? It's fortunate that the people in your region seem to have a greater understanding of cryptocurrency compared to those in the Northern Region of Nigeria. I have been in forex trading for quite some time, even my own relatives are unaware of it due to common misconceptions. Personally, i can earn over $1,000 a day through Bitcoin futures trading alone. I attempted to involve some of my friends in the business, but unfortunately , they declined, their reluctance stems from a lack of understanding. Politics / How Google Maps Leads NYSC Corp Member To Bandits' Hideout In Sokoto by khalifjgusau(m): 6:28pm On Feb 28
Former Member of Parliament and prominent activist, Senator Shehu Sani, has raised concerns over the escalating rates of kidnapping and armed robbery incidents across Nigeria.

Senator Sani highlighted a recent incident involving a young NYSC member who narrowly escaped from bandits in Sokoto state. According to Sani, the NYSC member revealed that their reliance on Google Maps during their journey inadvertently directed them into the territory of the bandits.

Taking to his Twitter page, Senator Sani shared the chilling account, stating: "A Youth Corper who managed to flee from bandits recounted how their use of Google Maps while traveling to Sokoto led them straight into the bandits' domain."

The revelation comes at a time when the northern region of Nigeria, particularly the Northwest, grapples with heightened security challenges, including frequent attacks orchestrated by bandits and armed assailants.

A man threatening to beat his daughter so badly that the authorities will take her away?

He's allowed to be frustrated. But then he sounds like someone who isn't ready to see where he went wrong, as a perfect person, or talk to his own child reasonably. If he's been threatening her, it's only going to make her worse.
Yes, I now understand your point. Thank you for your time...

He's still besotted with his new wife. Anything she says goes. His priorities don't lie with this daughter. That's the cause of his problem with her.

He should address his own behavior if he wants to change hers.

He sounds like her. Children are good learners.

However, don't you see that his words stemmed from a mix of anger, frustration, and fear regarding his daughter's troubling behavior, indicating a potential danger to her parents in the near future?

What if she becomes lesbian instead and continues as she is? He's far from the root cause.

It's a good decision to bring her back to Nigeria for her studies at the boarding school. This will really help her learn discipline and other valuable lessons. Despite your love for her, please be patient with her adjustment. Once she completes her secondary and degree studies in Nigeria, if you see positive changes in her behavior, then consider taking her back to abroad again...

Jumbo Allowances For Ex-Gov: Zamfara Dramatic Event Unfolds In Rivers Assembly

The unfolding drama, reminiscent of the events in Zamfara State, where the House of Assembly repealed the law approving substantial pensions for former governors, deputies, Speakers, and deputy Speakers, has now shifted its stage to Rivers State. The repercussions of this political turmoil have taken a destructive turn, with the Chamber of the Rivers State House of Assembly falling victim to a deliberate act of arson.

The catalyst for this unfortunate incident appears to be a cloud of uncertainty surrounding a rumored plan to impeach Governor Similanayi Fubara. Unverified sources have suggested that the arsonist managed to gain unauthorized access to the Assembly chamber on a fateful Sunday night, igniting a fire that threatened to engulf the entire complex. Fortunately, the swift response of the fire service personnel managed to prevent the flames from consuming the entire Assembly.

Politics / Disparities In NLC Support For FG, State And LG Workers by khalifjgusau(m): 11:10am On Oct 08, 2023
The National Labour Congress (NLC) holds a pivotal role in safeguarding the rights and interests of workers across Nigeria, irrespective of their backgrounds or affiliations. However, concerns have persistently arisen among state and local government employees regarding what appears to be a bias in the NLC's advocacy and support, favoring federal workers. This report delves into the factors contributing to this issue and emphasizes the urgent need for more equitable representation and support within the NLC.

One of the foremost concerns raised by state and local government workers revolves around a perceived imbalance in collective labor bargaining. While both federal and state unions engage in negotiations for national wages, discrepancies emerge when it comes to implementation.

Federal government workers were initially granted ₦18,000 during Goodluck Jonathan's administration as a response to the fuel price increase from ₦65 to ₦87. Subsequently, ₦30,000 minimum wage was introduced by Muhammadu Buhari to counter the fuel price hike from ₦87 to ₦195. Regrettably, many states failed to fulfill these wage commitments.

The pivotal question is whether the NLC effectively intervened to support state and local government workers in such instances. Unfortunately, the answer appears to be in the negative.

Another contentious issue revolves around the NLC's approach to strikes.

Undergraduates studying education in public varsities to get N75K per semester

The Federal Government has approved the sum of N75,000 as stipend per semester for students undergoing degree programmes in Education in public universities in Nigeria.

Also, the Nigeria Certificate in Education students will get N50,000 as stipend per semester as part of the deliberate effort of the government to attract the best brains into the teaching profession as promised by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), last year.

Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, announced this on Tuesday at the World Teachers’ Day celebration held at Eagle Square, Abuja.

Adamu, whose speech was read by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, said his ministry would collaborate with the state governments to ensure automatic employment for the students on graduation.

He said: “Undergraduate students of B.Ed/B.A. Ed/BSc. Ed in Public institutions are to receive stipends of N75,000.00 per semester while NCE students will get N50,000.00 as stipends per semester.

“Federal Government should find the modality through which respective states’ governments could provide automatic employment for NCE graduates at Basic Education level.”

Politics / Buhari Met Nigeria As One, But Allows Bandits To Rule Part Of Country — Sheikh K by khalifjgusau(m): 9:32am On Aug 29, 2021
The chief Imam of Apo Legislative Quarters Mosque, Sheikh Nuru Khalid, has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari for his failure to tackle banditry in the country.

Addressing worshippers during his Friday sermon, the Imam said Mr Buhari met a united Nigeria, but allowed bandits to rule part of the country.

“Go and tell the president that under his government some group of people are issuing threats to local communities, demanding that they be paid some amounts of money or face attack,” Mr Khalid said.

“And they would gather the money and announce publicly on the BBC that they (bandits) would be paid this Friday [to avoid attack].

“Tell the president that there is a country we pay allegiance to, and there is another country we do not know, which is governed by bandits.

“The president should either return the country as one nation — just the way he took over, or Allah will deal with him.

“This is the message. I’m saying this in open forum, and it is live-streamed for the world to see. I take responsibility for my words, and I’m ready to face whatever consequences for preaching peace and unity of Nigeria.

“Mr President, we don’t want to hear the reports of killing of people under your watch. We don’t want to hear reports of cowardice among our soldiers, such that they are attacked at their base.

“We have a video where you said Nigerian soldiers had the the patriotism, training, discipline to tackle all manner of criminality in the country. You said if you were elected, you will give them the required support to tackle insurgency in a short period of time.

“Your Excellency, a promise made is a promise kept. If you lack the advisers to remind you about this, we are ready tell you. We are praying to God to help you fulfil this promise if really you are willing.”

A.A Yari is a notorious criminal who was not supposed to hold any public post in Nigeria. But unfortunately, he is still existing in Nigerian politics. Electing him into the office of the state governor, is one of our grave mistake that led us to the most heartless movement in the history of democracy in Zamfara state.

Crime / BREAKING: Gunmen Kill Pastor, Kidnap 19 People In Niger State by khalifjgusau(m): 5:07pm On Dec 14, 2020
This is coming barely a few days after armed bandits abducted an unspecified number of students at the Government Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State.

Unknown gunmen have killed clergyman and kidnapped at least 19 people in Ogu and Tegina communities in Rafi Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State.

The Chief of Staff to Rafi LGA Chairman, Mohammed Mohammed, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Monday.

This is coming barely a few days after armed bandits abducted an unspecified number of students at the Government Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State.

Newsflash247 had earlier reported that Governor Aminu Masari had revealed that 333 students are missing following an attack on Government Science Secondary School, Kankara town in the state on Friday.

He confirmed these figures of students still missing when he received a Federal government delegation led by Babagana Monguno, National Security Adviser to the President on Sunday.

The governor who explained that the school has a population of 839 students said so far, those kidnapped cut across the state with the boarding school housing all children from all parts of the state and outside the state.

“Based on the available record we have, we are still searching for 333 students through either the forest or their parents to ascertain the actual number that has been kidnapped,” Governor Masari said.

“We are still counting because more are coming out from the forest and we are calling through the numbers those parents that have phone numbers to find out whether or not their children have gone back home.

“We as a government we are yet to be contacted by any group or person responsible for the kidnap of the students.”

Politics / Nigeria’s Inflation Caused By Closure Of Land Borders, Insecurity – World Bank by khalifjgusau(m): 12:48pm On Dec 12, 2020
The World Bank says that the closure of Nigeria’s land borders since August 2019, insecurity in the North, and farmer-herder clashes, among others, were responsible for the skyrocketing inflation in the country.

The World Bank said it would consider Nigeria’s new $1.5billion loan request in the coming week to help boost Africa’s largest economy.

According to Reuters, the World Bank country director in Nigeria, Shubham Chaudhuri, stated these in Abuja at the launch of the latest World Bank Nigeria Development Update.

Shubham said the $1.5 billion loan request would be tabled next week before the World Bank board for approval.

Shubham said: “We recognise how much Nigeria has done. There needs to be a little bit more. The onset of the COVID-19 crisis has made the task much more challenging and urgent because of the severity of the economic downturn and the decline in fiscal resources.

“In other words, while COVID-19 will hit incomes across all countries, Nigeria is expected to suffer twice as much.

“Because Nigeria’s growth has been uneven and volatile, once we adjust for inflation, we find that for Nigeria going back to 2010 is equivalent to going back to the 1980s.”

The country director further explained that “before COVID-19, rising food prices were already putting pressure on inflation due to insecurity in the North, conflicts between farmers and herders in the middle belt, and Nigeria’s closure of land borders since August 2019. Then, on top of these, pandemic related disruptions in value chains and production processes further increased inflation.”

In a statement issued after the Nigeria Development Update release, the World Bank raised the alarm that despite the current recession, Nigeria risks sinking deeper into recession in the next three years.

The statement reads, “In the next three years, an average Nigerian could see a reversal of decades of economic growth and the country could enter its deepest recession since the 1980s.

“In the absence of measures to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 crisis, the number of poor could increase by 15 to 20 million by 2022.”

Former Governor of Zamfara state, Ahmed Yerima summoned by panel over ‘police abuse’

Former Governor of Zamfara state, Ahmad Sani Yerima has been summoned to appear before an Independent Investigative Panel (IIP) set up by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to probe alleged police impunity.

The order was given after Yerima was accused of using some police officers to arrest, torture and detain a Katsina State-based businessman, Alhaji Musa Wapa, over a claim of N23 million.

Yerima’s name was reportedly mentioned many times in Wapa’s complaint before the  Justice Suleiman Galadima (retd.) led panel, making it necessary for him to be invited to defend himself before the panel.
