Tribalism is a big problem in Nigeria. Why we think we are so different from each other, beats me. Guys focus on the issue and stop attacking other tribes. On the topic, I believe that only those gaining from this sad situation want this unfortunate political experiment to continue. Even if we don't break up which is what I think should happen, let's have a UNITED STATES OF NIGERIA or UNITED REGIONS OF NIGERIA. That way,we will not be forced to live with other peoples inefficiency and out-right wickedness. If you don't work hard, your state or your region will suffer. The federal government will not give you money generated from other states. This is much like what the Aburi peace accord stood for. |
I was beyond words in this match but I thank God it went our way. The analyst showed that the penalty was a dive. Thank God Messi missed the pen. Terry was sent off for his actions against Alexis Sanchez. The referee would not have been killed if he had given a yellow card especially because he did not see the event. My question now is: In the scuffle in the Chelsea 18 yard box when Messi Pushed Lampard violently with a comparable if not more force than was used by Terry and did not even get as much as a yellow card let alone a red card, do you think that he should have been sent off? If he had gotten a yellow card, the second yellow would have sent him off. So do you think that he should have finished the game? Please vote and share your thoughts. |
I read this from the UKBA website and I don't know who's side to take. I feel it's wrong to marry just for kpali but I also feel its wrong for people to investigate marriages just to prevent illegal immigration. What's your view? Read the UKBA Excerpt below: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/newsarticles/2012/february/06-nottingham-sham?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ukborderagency+%28UK+Border+Agency+latest+news%29 Ten jailed for Nottingham sham marriage scam 02 February 2012 Ten people have been jailed for a total of 16 years for trying to organise an international sham marriage conspiracy which centred on 3 churches in Nottingham. The scam first came to light after UK Border Agency officers stopped a suspected sham marriage between a Dutch national, Ramsley De Kaster and a Nigerian woman, Folfolashade Ladapo, at St Stephen's with St Paul's church, Bobbersmill Road, Nottingham on 10 October 2010. The bogus bride and groom pleaded guilty to conspiracy to breach immigration law and were jailed for 12 months and 18 months respectively on 25 October 2010. A specialist UK Border Agency crime team, comprised of immigration and seconded police officers, started an investigation which uncovered 16 sham marriages that had taken place at St Aiden's church in Baseford, Nottingham involving Dutch and Nigerian nationals. On 2 March 2011 officers visited addresses in Nottingham, London and Kent. Dutch police officers also raided addresses in Rotterdam and Tilburg on the same day. The suspected ringleader, Phillips Onikoyi, a 34-year-old Nigerian national, was arrested in Nottingham along with suspected bogus brides, and fellow Nigerian nationals, Esther Abiola Idowu and Olujamoki Ikoyi. Isaac Onikoyi, a Nigerian man, was arrested in Ramsgate on 2 March 2011 while another Nigerian man, Olushola Oshingbade was arrested in Lewisham a few weeks later. On 2 March 2011 Wensley Quirindongo, a Dutch man, was arrested in the Netherlands. Four other Dutch nationals were arrested in a follow up operation in the Netherlands on 16 March 2011. All 5 Dutch nationals were extradited to the UK to stand trial along with the other 5 suspects. On 19 September 2011 all of those charged pleaded guilty except Olujamoki Ikoyi. Phillips Onikoyi, of Stanley Road, Nottingham, was sentenced to 5 years. Esther Idowu, of Gregory Boulevard, Nottingham, Isaac Onikoyi and Olushola Oshingbade received 12 months each, while the 5 Dutch nationals were each sentenced to 18 months. These details could not be made public at the time, as the judge imposed reporting restrictions until the trial of Olujamoki Ikoyi had taken place. Ikoyi has taken part in a sham marriage at St Paul's Church, Carlton, Nottingham. On 1 February 2012 at Leicester Crown Court, Ikoyi, of Beech Avenue, Nottingham was found guilty of conspiracy to breach immigration law and sentenced to 2 years. A sham marriage typically occurs when a non European national marries someone from the European Economic Area, including the Netherlands and the UK, as a means of attempting to gain long term residency and the right to work and claim benefits in this country. Pete Copple, from the UK Border Agency's immigration crime team, said: 'We are pleased that this major international investigation has resulted in significant sentences being handed down to all members of this organised crime group who attempted to breach immigration law. 'We will continue to crack down on criminal gangs that try to profit from organising sham marriages. Anyone attempting to benefit illegally from the privileges of life in the UK faces prison and deportation.' The judge praised the UK Border Agency officers for a very thorough and comprehensive investigation into a wide-ranging international conspiracy. Anyone with suspected immigration abuse should contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 anonymously or visit the Crimestoppers website. You may also use our report a crime form on this website. I guess it's more than a slap to the face! |
Very sorry!! |
Can't this violence to an innocent child be classified as an act of war? Why will the commander if chief be meeting the sultan rather than surmonning his cabinet and taking serious action. I was not even able to take a good look at that child's head. It looked like his skull was blown open. I had a nightmare because of that picture. Just imagine if you were this child's mum or dad!!! I weep for Nigeria!!!!! |
Glad to know that this thread is still running. A few people who were having a heated argument with me earlier this year with regards to the possibility of stopping the PSW visa are noticeably absent probably because the law has now been passed and so all doubts are now settled. For those asking for the source of information with regards to stopping the PSW, pls click this link and go to page 17 http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/news/sop4.pdf It will take you to the UKBA document on the Tier 1 post study. I know that some people might be deceived by the Tier 2 story on that page. If you are, kindly read the policy guidance for Tier 2 so that you will know how serious the government is. Also find out how many of your friends and relatives are in the UK on Tier 2. The bottom line of my comment today is what I have been saying ever since. If your one and only intention of going to the UK is to study, then by all means do so as you will undoubtedly get a good education. If by chance you have an intention to settle as well, you have another think coming!!! |
I liked this video and thought it will be fun sharing it!!! Click and enjoy!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Of_sRHlCk-c&feature=related |
Exactly. |
Hi, I have had this discussion and the link to see this in the thread is: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-575600.160.html There you will even see the link to the sites where this plan was put forward. If they do stop PSW which is very likely I will be surprised if it doesn't affect those currently studying in the UK. |
Seun:Thanks Seun. Luckily for me, my card bounced as HP does not deal with the credit card company I use so I had to re-order it and it was then I saw your suggestion above and that was what I bought i.e. (800GB 7200RPM Dual Hard Drive (SSD 160GB + 640GB 7200RPM) and I feel I got the best deal in the end. Thanks again. The final configuration is: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/load_configuration.do?destination=review&email_id=1968586&jumpid=in_r329_emailconfig lynxnoon:No, I am in the UK and buying it from the US as things are generally cheaper there, Cheers |
Still thinking about it, The sight of it , yuk!! |
Shy-One:That was very informative but I still find this difficult to comprehend. How come throughout the ages, it has not been a recognized part of any culture? |
Shy-One:I think I quite agree with you. I don't hate anyone because they are gay but I find it difficult to see it as normal when they are kissing in public. |
Thanks guys for your help, I have finally bought the stuff from the US HP website but I went for the SATA 1 TB drive (two 500GB 7200rpm drives) just because I have an enormous music library and I don't like attachments to my system. Click the link below to see the configuration of the system. http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/load_configuration.do?destination=review&email_id=1959150&jumpid=in_r329_emailconfig I am yet to receive it but I hope to enjoy it. I opted for the fastest processor I could find just to compensate for the SATA drive speed. Thanks guys once again. |
I hope someone has learnt a thing or two from this thread. |
Thanks a lot Seun for your thoughts. I went into a PC store and spoke to an IT technician about this confusion. He kind of agreed with you about using the SSD as your main drive and the external for heavy downloads. But he pointed out that the SSD will "expire" quicker if you leave the system on for a long time. |
Hmm, do I smell a fish here? |
debosky:Another person who understands my point. tensor777:Affordability is always a relative terminology. The vast majority of Nigerians are people who struggled through thick and thin to be able to present themselves as worthy of a student visa to the BHC. The category you are mentioning here is a very slim minority. For those minority, this thread is of no importance. But for those ones whose parents have sold their property and they have borrowed a distant uncle's bank statement (When that was still allowed) just to get here, those are the people this thread will make sense to. |
AjanleKoko:Spot on!! tensor777:The thread is about studying in the UK irrespective of the level of study. The change in law will not spare the B.sc and the M.sc students. They are talking about stopping Post Study Work in its entierty not stopping it for those who are studying for less than an M.sc or B.sc. |
Whats up Tensor, did you check out the statistics mentioned above? I was just trying to back my statements up because you said that there is no evidence that most Nigerians who come to study in the UK stay back afterwards. You also said that cancelling Tier 1 post study is not in the pipeline. Please read my post and the links and get back to me. AjanleKoko:Ol boy, you are not slow at all. A great majority of Nigerians especially those who have never left the shores of our beloved country, almost equate a student visa (Tier 4 as they have baptised it now) with a settlement visa and they don't understand the intricacies of the immigration here until they arrive. If the proposals put forward are accepted, it will be really difficult to study here if you are not from a well-to-do family or if you are not under some form of sponsorship. I maintain my earlier stands. The education in the UK is superb (not putting Nigerian education down). Nigerian education is also superb when you look at the course content and the curriculum. The only problem with Nigerian education is the implementation of this curriculum and exam malpractice which is now a custom in Nigeria. My point about the UK again is this. If you are coming here with the sole intention of studying and going back as soon as you finish (immediately ASAP!!!) and you have a strong financial base in 9ja, then go ahead because the education you will receive will be an asset for you back in 9ja or even in any other country. But if you want to use the student visa as a means to eventually settle in the UK (as most people do and as the Home Office statistics show), then think about it very carefully and possibly, wait till April and see if the proposals will be put into effect (which I am almost certain they will) before you venture into the UK so that you will know what you will be facing. I will not tell anyone not to come here. All I am saying is LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP!!!!! Cheers |
joyceonome:It doesn't really matter which one you fill. Use the school address if that is what you have. The immigration will surely not have a problem with that. I hope that helps |
@Tensor777, Just to back my statement about Nigerians and their ultimate intention after their studies in the UK, Please look at the table in page 14 of the this link obtained from the UKBA and tell me what you think. Compare Nigeria and other countries. http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/policyandlaw/consultations/students/student-consultation.pdf?view=Binary |
I got this from the link from the UKBA website as pasted above and I just wanted to highlight it. http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/policyandlaw/consultations/students/student-consultation.pdf?view=Binary "Limiting the entitlements of students to work and sponsor dependants • Students should only be allowed to work on campus during the week and for any external employer at weekends and during vacation periods. • Where a course includes a work placement, raise the minimum ratio of study to work placement from 50:50 to 66:33 so that these types of courses become less attractive to people using them as a way to gain access to the UK employment market. • Remove permission to work for all dependants of Tier 4 students, except where they qualify in their own right under Tier 1 or Tier 2 of the PBS. • Only those Tier 4 students studying for more than 12 months to be allowed to bring their dependants to the UK." This will simply mean that if you intend for your spouse to work to support you while you study (much like you can do currently), it will not be possible if the proposal goes through, Hmmmm Talking about working in the campus. What kind of jobs exist in UK campuses for students to do and how many non-EU students are getting them? "Ensuring students return overseas after their course • Students wanting to remain in the UK after their initial course to extend their studies will have to show clear evidence of academic progression to a higher level. We are also considering whether such students should be required to leave the UK and re-apply from overseas. • Close the Tier 1 Post Study Work route." This is in response to what Tensor has been saying here. Through out all the period I have been here in the UK, I can hardly remember a consultation proposal that was not put into effect in the April immediately after the proposal was made. This consultation explicitly says CLOSE THE TIER 1 POST STUDY WORK ROUTE and the document released in November did not list the post study work as one of the visa categories that will continue come April.
[li][/li] [li][/li]
We are also considering whether such students should be required to leave the UK and re-apply from overseas. So if you finish your programme and you want to continue into another programme, you will have to go to 9ja to re-apply if they are able to put this forward. Hmmm, it even sounds more severe than I anticipated!!! |
Thanks guys for your reply. It seems like the answer to my question is "a bit of both". Now I may have to go for the SSD but the only problem I have is that the memory is small (Max I have seen is 256GB and the cost is "WIKID" . I can get 3 or 4 640GB to 1 TB with it.The only thing is that if I buy it I will have to constantly use an external Hard drive which is a bit cumbersome and kind of defeats the purpose of buying a laptop in the first place. Hmmm, am I not confused? |
Hi guys and girls, I am trying to configure a laptop to from the Sony website and got confused when I was told to choose a Hard drive. Now there is the "128 GB Ultra SATA Flash SSD" which is the most expensive (£320) and there is the "500 GB Serial ATA (7200 rpm)" which is £50. From my little knowledge about drives, 500GB is obviously bigger than 128GB so I could not understand why the astronomical difference in prize. I read up a little about the Solid State Drive and all I could get from it is that it is faster and has no moving parts and hence is less prone to damage and that it is silent. Now my question is will a 128GB Solid State Drive contain more data than a 128GB Serial ATA drive (Doesn't sound like to me) or is it just for the speed and stability that makes it more than 6 times more expensive? What else is the added advantage of the Solid State Drive apart from what I mentioned above? Please I would like someone to enlighten me. Cheers |
Anybody there? |

Becomericch, How you dey now? ( Abi you think say we no know say na you?) |
I know full well that they have gained an education but lets tell ourselves the truth. How many Nigerians really intend to go back after their studies? I think its worth conducting a poll on this but I don't want the BHC a tool to use to turn people down, |
Joagbaje: ![]() No I am not. Can we get back to topic, guys and girls, Cheers |
makes no sense at all.
