Foreign AffairsUkraine Exhumes Bodies From Mass Graves To Probe Alleged Russian War Crimes by KillerCrocodile(op): 2:24am On Apr 22, 2022
Bodies exhumed from mass graves to probe alleged Russian war crimes in Ukraine

Hundreds of bodies have been exhumed from a makeshift cemetery behind a church in the Ukrainian town of Bucha, 50 km from Kyiv, to probe the alleged Russian war crimes.

Ukraine, with the help of international investigators, has started a probe on the allegations of mass graves dug up to bury the dead, which many believe were executions of civilians by Russian forces.

Close to 900 bodies of civilians were found around Kyiv alone. It's alleged at least 300 were buried at this location alone in Bucha. However, there are no official figures to support this.

A team of investigators from France visited the site in Bucha to pick up evidence as bodies were exhumed. They will be studying the evidence to probe the allegations. India Today was at the spot when the exercise to take forward the investigation took place at a mass grave in Bucha.

Russian forces had occupied Bucha but retreated after facing heavy casualties. Russian tanks were blown away as the Ukrainian forces hit back with guided anti-tank missiles that left hundreds of Russian soldiers dead here.

The stiff resistance by Ukrainian forces halted the Russian advance from the north towards Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.

Oleg, a lawyer and human rights activist, who is now a volunteer soldier with the Ukrainian forces, was a part of the investigation team at the spot. He said, "A team of international investigators is looking into it.

Police are also collecting evidence. We know the commanders responsible for this. It was organised and planned. When they came to Bucha they had a list of people to be arrested. The perpetrators of the crimes must be punished."

"What we see here is a typical example of genocide by Putin. This is a violation of the Geneva Convention. They went into Bucha and arrested people without any facts on suspicion of being spies.

There are 280 bodies just at this location," Oleg said. There are several such makeshift cemeteries that have come up in several parts of Ukraine to bury the civilians who died.

As of April 18, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recorded 4,890 civilian casualties in the country: 2,072 killed and 2,818 injured since the Russian invasion started on February 24.

Russia has constantly denied any war crime on its part in what it calls special military operations that started on February 24 to “de-militarise Ukraine”.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet had in a statement on April 4 said, "I am horrified by the images of civilians lying dead on the streets and in improvised graves in the town of Bucha in Ukraine."

The statement added, "Reports emerging from this and other areas raise serious and disturbing questions about possible war crimes as well as grave breaches of international humanitarian law and serious violations of international human rights law."

The UN also called for an investigation into the alleged war crimes by exhuming the bodies.

"It is essential that all bodies are exhumed and identified so that victims’ families can be informed, and the exact cause of death established.

All measures should be taken to preserve evidence. It is vital that all efforts are made to ensure there are independent and effective investigations into what happened in Bucha to ensure truth, justice and accountability, as well as reparations and remedy for victims and their families," the statement read.

Foreign AffairsHonduran Ex-leader Extradited To US For Drug Trafficking And Money Laundering. by KillerCrocodile(op): 1:29am On Apr 22, 2022
Juan Orlando Hernández: Honduran ex-leader extradited to US

A former president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, has been extradited to the United States to face charges of drug trafficking and money laundering.

Mr Hernández, who governed the Central American nation until January, was put on board a US Drug Enforcement Administration plane for New York.

He was arrested at his home just weeks after his second term in office ended.

The ex-leader has denied wrongdoing, arguing that disgruntled drug traffickers are trying to frame him.

Mr Hernández is facing charges of:

1- conspiracy to import a controlled substance into the US
2- using or carrying firearms including machine guns
3- conspiracy to use or carry firearms

In a video posted on his wife's Twitter account, he denied the allegations, saying: "I am innocent. I have been subjected to an unfair trial."

In a statement, the US Department of Justice said Mr Hernández would make his first appearance before a New York court on Friday.

US Attorney Damian Williams said the former president had "partnered with some of the world's most prolific narcotics traffickers to build a corrupt and brutally violent empire based on the illegal trafficking of tons of cocaine".

The head of the Drugs Enforcement Administration (DEA), Anne Milgram, called Mr Hernández "a central figure in one of the largest and most violent cocaine trafficking conspiracies in the world".

The 53-year-old's legal troubles were triggered by the trial against his younger brother Tony, a former member of the Honduran Congress, who was sentenced to life in prison last year.

During Tony Hernández's trial in New York, prosecutors alleged that the infamous Mexican drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán had personally handed the younger Hernández $1m (£765,000).

According to the prosecutors, "El Chapo" told Tony Hernández to pass the money on to his older brother, Juan Orlando, to finance the latter's presidential campaign.

Juan Orlando Hernández is accused of having accepted millions of dollars in bribes during his eight years as president in exchange for protecting drug traffickers from investigation, arrest and extradition.

In its extradition request, the US outlined some of the allegations in more detail, accusing the former president of "participating in a violent drug trafficking conspiracy to receive shipments of multiple tonnes of cocaine sent to Honduras from Colombia and Venezuela and other locations by air or sea routes".

The request alleges that the drugs - amounting to a total of 500 tonnes since 2004 - were then transported to the Guatemala border and from there to the US.

Mr Hernández has denied the allegations, arguing that he fought drug traffickers with all the means at his disposal.

The former president - who was elected to the office in 2014 - says that the evidence against him was fabricated by drug traffickers out for revenge after his government extradited them to the US.

He has been in police custody since his arrest on 15 February.

Foreign AffairsUK Sanctions Russian Generals 'with Ukrainian Blood On Their Hands' by KillerCrocodile(op): 6:55pm On Apr 21, 2022
UK sanctions Russian generals it says have 'blood on their hands'

Britain set out 26 new sanctions on Thursday targeting Russian military generals responsible for what it called atrocities in Ukraine, as well as individuals and businesses supporting the Russian armed forces.

"Today's new wave of sanctions hits the generals and defence companies that have blood on their hands," foreign minister Liz Truss said in a statement.

Britain, which has sought to play a central role in the West's response to Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, has already set out hundreds of sanctions, such as asset freezes and travel bans on prominent Russian billionaires and politicians including President Vladimir Putin.

The latest sanctions included an asset freeze and travel ban on Azatbek Omurbekov, a commander in the Russian army who the British government said was involved in the "Bucha massacre".

Ukraine and most major western countries have accused Russia of war crimes in Bucha during the several weeks when the northern town was under Russian occupation. Pictures of dead civilians that emerged after Russian forces withdrew sparked an international uproar and led to further sanctions on Russia by the United States, Britain and the European Union.

Russia has denied allegations that it killed civilians in Bucha, calling footage and photographs of dead bodies a "staged performance" by Kyiv.

Britain's Foreign and Commonwealth Office said it has concluded that Russian attacks on Ukrainian government buildings, schools and hospitals since March 10 were intentional based on, among other things, the types of civilian targets struck, frequency of strikes and volume of munitions used.

Earlier in the week, Ukraine said the second phase of the war had begun with the "Battle of Donbas" in the country's east, after failing to capture the capital Kyiv and being forced to withdraw from the north.

Russia calls its incursion a "special military operation" to demilitarise and "denazify" Ukraine. Kyiv and its Western allies reject that as a false pretext for an illegal war of aggression.

Britain said its new sanctions also targeted Kalashnikov Concern, a maker of army equipment whose weapons have been used by the Russian army in Ukraine; Military Industrial Company, a major supplier of arms and military equipment to Russia; and Russia's largest leasing company GTLK

Foreign AffairsSpanish And Danish Leaders Visits Zelensky, Promises More Weapon Aid. by KillerCrocodile(op): 1:16pm On Apr 21, 2022
Denmark's prime minister on Thursday pledged to send more weapons to Ukraine during a trip to Kyiv, where she and her Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez were meeting President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in a gesture of support.

Mette Frederiksen also visited the badly damaged town of Borodyanka, which has been retaken after Russian troops pulled back from the region around Kyiv.

Frederiksen and her Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez both arrived in Kyiv early on Thursday, according to footage posted on Sanchez' Twitter account

Frederiksen's office said talks with Zelenskiy would focus on further support for the Ukrainians and the prosecution of "war crimes and human rights violations".

Russia calls its action a "special military operation" to demilitarise Ukraine and eradicate what it calls dangerous nationalists. The West and Kyiv accuse Russian President Vladimir Putin of an unprovoked war of aggression.

Numerous European leaders have travelled to Ukraine since Russia's invasion to show support for its president and people, more especially since Russia pulled back its forces from northern Ukraine.

"We intend to deliver more weapons to Ukraine because that is what is most needed," Frederiksen told the Danish channel TV2 as she walked around the town surrounded by armed soldiers.

Her Majesty has since left her Windsor Castle home to the royal family’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

The monarch flew from Windsor Castle to her Sandringham estate where she is likely to spend several days at Wood Farm, the home Prince Philip moved to after his retirement in August 2017. She visited him frequently until the Covid pandemic necessitated his moving to shield with her at Windsor Castle.

Buckingham Palace is not planning any kind of public engagement to mark her birthday on Thursday, though there will be tributes from family members and organisations she is involved with.

A new photograph was issued to mark the occasion. The portrait, released by the Royal Windsor Horse Show, shows her holding the reins of two white ponies, against a magnolia tree backdrop and was taken last month by Henry Dallal in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

The Queen’s ponies, Bybeck Nightingale and Bybeck Katie, will feature in A Gallop through History, the horse show’s Platinum Jubilee equestrian display showcasing horses from across the globe. The show will run from 12 -15 May.

It is expected the Queen will be visited by family and friends over the next few days during her short holiday. She has no major confirmed engagements in her diary. Recent mobility issues have led her to cancel a string of engagements and it is not yet known which events planned for her platinum jubilee in June she will attend.

If this War continues like this, Putin's Russia would be badly hit.....

His Financial War chest would be depleted given the sanctions from the west....

Las las na nuclear weapons the guy go resort to ..... Just to try and end the matter because he would not accept defeat...

His defence minister is already accusing the West of prolonging the war by supplying arms to Ukraine.....

Why is he complaining ?..... He should have expected that to happen..

Could it be that he was not planning and not ready for a prolonged war ?

The West is ready to make sure that Putin spends 20 years in Ukraine with a depleted war chest and a very weak economy.

I believe the Russians have seen the game plan of the Western nations and Putin should not fall for it this time around....

Ukraine is not really in Rubbles yet. You need to see real Rubbles in Baghdad and Aleppo. For instance, many of the cities the Russians pulled out of to mark the end of Phase 1 have running water system, internet and cellphone network working properly. The only city that looks a bit like rubbles is Mariupol, and that is caused by both sides used of artilleries in city centers.

But in this new phase, with the way the Russians are conducting their operation, there would be hardly anything left in the east by the time they're finished. This is bad for the people of Ukraine.

Ok...

But if they actually destroy the entire eastern side of Ukraine, what would be Putin's prize in this War.

A liberated Donbas is supposed to be his prize.... But not a Donbas in ruins...

Russian forces capture first city in battle for Donbas

Governor of Kreminna says Ukrainian troops have withdrawn after being attacked ‘from all sides’

Russian forces have seized the city of Kreminna in eastern Ukraine’s Donbas region and Ukrainian troops have withdrawn from the city, the regional governor has said.

Kreminna, a city of more than 18,000 people about 350 miles (560km) south-east of the capital, Kyiv, appears to be the first city captured in a Russian offensive in eastern Ukraine.

“Kreminna is under the control of the ‘Orcs’ [Russians]. They have entered the city,” Serhiy Gaidai, the governor of the Luhansk region, told a briefing on Tuesday. “Our defenders had to withdraw. They have entrenched themselves in new positions and continue to fight the Russian army.”

He said Russian forces had attacked “from all sides”.

It is impossible to calculate the number of dead among the civilian population. We have official statistics – about 200 dead – but in reality there are many more,” he said, without making it clear what period the estimated death toll covered.

Russia denies targeting civilians.

Evacuated residents from the city have said they are unable to reach relatives and friends there.

Olena Stetsenko, the head of the City Korupus volunteer organisation located in Kreminna, was evacuated from the city in mid-March. Stetsenko was one of the last to reach someone inside the city before her mobile signal was fully cut off at lunchtime on Monday, she said, hours after Russian forces reportedly took the city.

There has been a pattern of Ukrainian towns and villages losing mobile connection shortly after falling under Russian occupation.
