Sanusi Meets With Niger Coup Leaders

Following the refusal of the Niger military junta to hand over power, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the 14th Emir of Kano, yesterday met with the coup leaders in Niamey, the country’s capital.

Alhaji Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, successfully met the military leadership after the junta aborted a meeting with representatives of the African Union, AU, ECOWAS, and a top US diplomat.

“We have spoken to the head of state, the new strongman, General Abdourahamane Tchiani, and will deliver a message to Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu,’’ said Sanusi, adding that he is not an emissary of the government.

Peter Obi's Former Campaign DG Begs Senate To Confirm El-Rufai As Tinubu's Minister

Following the Nigerian Senate's refusal to confirm the nomination of the immediate past governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, and two other nominees, a chieftain of the Labour Party, LP, and a former campaign DG to Mr Peter Obi, Doyin Okupe, has asked the Red Chamber to reconsider its decision.

According to the LP chieftain, the Senate may insist on an undertaking from the former governor before his confirmation that, while in office as minister, he will refrain from making any comments or remarks on religion rather than dropping El-Rufai.

He made this plea to the Senators via his official Twitter handle on Wednesday.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio found himself in an embarrassing situation after he mistakenly revealed that money has been sent to Senators to enjoy their recess while live on national television.

The coup leaders in Niger have appointed an economist, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, as the transitional prime minister of the West African country.

Zeine, 58, served as finance minister under Mamadou Tandja, who led the country from 1999 to 2010 after its return to civilian rule.

He currently serves as the African Development Bank’s Country Manager for Chad and previously served at the same institution and position in Ivory Coast and Gabon.

Strike: FG Withdraws Contempt Suit Against NLC, Organized Labour

The Federal Government says it has withdrawn the contempt of court proceedings against organized Labour for embarking on a nationwide protest.

FG's decision was contained in a letter addressed to the lead counsel to the NLC, Falana and Falana’s Chambers. The Solicitor General of the Federation, Mrs B.E. Jeddy-Agba, signed the letter dated August 7 to Falana’s Chambers.

Fashola To IGP: Probe Claims That I Wrote Verdict Of Presidential Election Tribunal

Babatunde Fashola, a former minister, has filed a petition to the acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to probe allegations that he drafted the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal verdict for the judges.

In a petition addressed to the IG on Monday, August 8, Fashola urged IGP Egbetokun to begin an investigation into the claims to clear his name and set the records straight.

His lawyers argued in the petition that the allegations amount to nothing less than character assassination with a calculated view to achieving damaging effects against him in his profession as a legal practitioner.

Nnamdi Kanu Spits Fire From Detention, VOWS To Deal With Anyone Doing This 🤯🤯

Nnamdi Kanu has issued a stern warning against individuals or groups misusing his name and the names of IPOB and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network ESN, to promote the cancelled sit- at- home order or engage in fundraising activities.

Last week, an ECOWAS delegation team headed by Abdulsalami Abubakar, a former commander of the Nigerian military, was prevented from leaving the airport in Niamey after their arrival.

The ECOWAS delegation, which included the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar III, and President Omar Touray, sought to broker peace talks with the Niger coup leaders. They were then barred from entering the city, citing security concerns.

After five hours of trying to meet with junta commander General Abdourahamane Tchiani, the team withdrew without making any headway. The junta then suggested that they return home. They arrived in Nigeria at roughly one on Friday morning.
