Utter rubbish.

And they got their arse whooped by Hausa-Fulani, sold each other as slaves and got colonized by the British.

Bollocks rant

Yu must be in kuku land Ibadan city state stopped the Hausa - Fulani marauders in their tract. The last mordern town that fell to the fulani was Ilorin. You have to remember that old oyo empire extended as far as abuja. But Ibadan stopped the fulani on slaught and all yorubas should be grateful for this great victory. If the Brish can defeat the spanish and french in the 17th century do we really have stand a chance. But amongst all black race the yorubas where light years away.

I will tell u a little history about the Yorubas

1. They are the most civilised balck race on earth. If only they built boats like the british they would have conquared the world.

2. They are one of the few black races that wore clothes - aso oke, there are so many tribes that dont wear cloths working naked all over the place.
There are some that tie wrapper has cloth they know themselves.

3.They eat proper food, there are some tribes that eat people u will not catch any yoruba do that.

4. They are the only black race that after 400 years of slavery their customs and traditions still survive in brazil, cuba, southern Southern USA around sea island of the coast of America. You cannot beat that - that is culture and every yoruba man must be proud of it.

For mordern Nigeria to reduce our monarch to a pitable begger is a slap to every youba person.

what a hell u talkin about, 4 billion for what? my god, what is wrong with some black man, a coucil in uk wouldnt even consider that

what is wrong with some black man head

have they got fossil's brain eh

nawoo

even sadam would do that

How can you u compare a yoruba monarch with some little council in England or Saddam a man that stole power by the barrel of a gun. The equivalent of Yoruba monarch in the west is the Queen of England. The Queen of England does not live in some shit run down palace. You need to and read more about the yoruba city states of the 18th century. The only thing going for the Queen of England is she has never been defeated in battle that is the reason why she still have all her opulence intact.

I am sorry, but the largest credit for peace in the city should probably be allocated to the Police, State Government and Federal Government.

So why should he be giving some money to some lunatical dreamer that wants to spend N4bn on property?

You somehow think this king is entitled to collect money from people.

Yoruba Kings where proper kings that had power to raise funds and feed themselves. It is this artificial creation called Nigeria that is stopping City states like the Ibadans, Egbas , Ijebus from raising their own revenues. This sole called federal and state goverment after hijacking this city state's revenue they should at least have the decency at least to provide the monarh's of such city states a befitting palace as the case maybe.

There is a market in Ibadan called oja oba - which literally means the king's market. He collects a levy from every body that trades there every day in the olden days but now I think the LG collect that levy now. Basically the King has lost most of the source of his revenue to corrupt LG Chairmen and women.

Eh eh ehe!! Why u guys sounding this way? Dont u knw the palace is gon contain several teritories of different animals??
But seriously that money is three much infact, its four much.

The problem with us in Nigeria is we are use to seeing our kings live in sub standard buildings, in the olden days a tax would have been levied on the citzenry of the town to raise the money, market would pay the kings levy b4  they can trade. All those revenue has been taking away from the King and giving to the State and the LG.

What hand is feeding him? Why can't the hand feed itself?

My friend, it is his brain and sweat that is feeding him.

Earlier, Akingbola lauded the monarch for the peace the city has been witnessing during his tenure, stressing that the bank planned to build more branches in Ibadan because the current branches are making profits in the city.

It is only stupid executive that will open new branch in a city if they are not making money in that city.

4 billion naira is to much for a palace.who's gonna be living there. . . .elephants?

A city with 1.5 million in any other economy can do enough civic feat for distinguish members of that society.

I wonder whether Akingbola does not know 2 words: "Bleep OFF!"

Bleep off becos of what, Is Akingbola's bank not making money in Ibadan, u want him to bite the hand that feeds his bank. A city of 1.5 Million people if not more, if u are making only N10.00 from every adult in that city u will be a millionaire in no time. The biggest problem with Nigerians is our enterprenuers are not inventive.

ibadan is the largest city in west africa and surely deserves a state. Because of its size ibadan can easily consume the federal allocation, and when that happens there will be nothing left for the rest of the state.  Have u ever thought of how many primary school and secondary schools in ibadan the state goverment will have to pay all these teachers.

The Guy was asking if Nigerian Graduates are really graduates of course they are when it comes to u wanting to do a post graduate (Wont u pay for your PG ). But u present the same certificate for jobs in the UK or US or canada  you will be told that those qualification are not recognised.

Politics › Re: I Was A Doctor In Nigeria, Now A Cleaner In Canada by KnowAll(m): 1:33pm On Jun 01, 2009
Just a simple question? If the above in bold fonts are realy true, why do some of us still got all it takes to break into the UK market with our Nigerian degrees and still came out being the best everywhere we work or at whatever we do? Why did the UK govt recruit many people to work in Britain under the HSMP Visa if Nigerian Universities turn out shit?

they want our money 90% of our politicians sons and daughters are either in the UK and the US studying and they pay top dollar. I live in a Uni Town in hertfordshire and I know want Nigerian parents are doing in my localty. They pay landlords 3 years rent to cover their kids schooling they also pay the uni for the 3 years duration of the course. We are talking £8,000.00 per academic year for the school and £10,000.00 a year for house and flats that are rented.

Yeye! after eating burger and enjoying uninterrupted power failure, decent road, decent police force without accidental discharge, decent transport system, unpoluted cities, you are complaining.

Yes I agree with u.

The fact is most Naijas want too much. Because we call these nations developed does not mean they still dont discriminate, they do it in a subtle way. When Naija was good, did we as a nation treat our fellow west africans equally as a Nigeria. Can a Ghanian compete equally for a job in Nigeria even most times people from different tribe are discriminated against in Nigeria. But when we come abroad we want to compete with oyinbos for their own country and to be fair to them they give a lot of us chance to compete fairly equally.

The Past Millitary Regime Is Our Backwardness.

This statement is an under statement. We all know what the other great reformer of the Colony of lagos was about to do in 1983 b4 the military junta of Buhari / Idiagbon took over. The contract for the lagos metrople had already been awarded to a french company. The whole cost would have been $700 million dollars. But for the juntas, nothing spoil with Fashola at the helms we on course to acheive greatness for the colony which will impact on the hinterlands of the southern and northern protectorate. Join us in our crusade in making the Royal Niger company the greatest company in the world again. Eko o ni baje.

Politics › The Republic Of Lagos- After 148 years the Colony Of Lagos Arise From Its Arshes by KnowAll(op): 11:34am On May 29, 2009
The British annexed Lagos in 1861 in order to protect Akitoye’s son and successor, foil Kosoko’s bid to return, and secure a base for further activities.

The British were not yet willing to assume the expense of maintaining an administration in Nigeria. To reduce costs, Lagos was administered first from Freetown in Sierra Leone, along with Gold Coast forts such as Elmina, and later from Accra (in present-day Ghana); only in 1886 did Lagos became a separate colony. A consul was maintained at Fernando Po to oversee the lucrative palm oil trade in the region called the Oil Rivers.

The protectorate of Southern Nigeria and the protectorate of Northern Nigeria were amalgamated to the colony of Lagos in 1914.

What this brief history is telling us is that lagos was an independent colony from both the southern and northern protectorate for good 53 years. Lagos had its own economy and it was sustainable for a period.

Mordern Independence of Lagos

With the new dispensation into civilian rule in 1999 Lagos has once again begin to enjoy the privileges and independence it once did back in the 19th century. Prior to 1999 lagos influence was reduced to a pitiable, deplorable and neglected state by the military juntas that ruled Nigeria from 1984 to 1999. A state with a vast human resources yet waiting every month for the grant giving to it by the federal Government. The grant was basically use to pay salaries and the rest got filtered away into the various Governors that ruled the state. The infrastructures in the state decayed by every passing second, minute, hour and every day since 1984. I once joked to a friend that some one who travelled out of lagos in 1984 and have not been back since would still recognise the city as the same nothing has changed.

The coming of Tinubu and the fall out with the Federal Government.

Tinubu became the Governor of Lagos state in 1999 obviously with the same mentality like the previous past administrators of the state. But unlike in the past loyalty to the center is subjective depending on the party you are . Tinubu in order to effect positive changes to all nook and corner of the state created more LG. This singular act infuriated the government in Abuja, culminating with the withholding of grants meant for lagos state. There is the popular saying innovation is the mother of invention. Tinubu knew lagos had only one resources and that is human, he now capitalised on these resources by been innovative with the sole aim of driving the revenue generated internally up. It was a gamble and it paid off, the state was generating enough revenue internally that they soon forgot about the federal grant ( albeit temporary )  and where embarking on projects and completing such projects on time. Lagos had discovered it own gold like the black gold in the Niger delta, Lagos gold was human, as long as enough humans continue to live and work in lagos the revenue generation exercise will continue unabated and how much can be generated is anyone’s guess.

The Coming of the Messiah

The next of Governor of lagos state Babatunde Fashola was part of the Tinubu team and was fully aware how much was generated by the internal generated drive. He ( Fashola ) now took the exercise to the stratosphere and the advantage Fashola had over Tinubu  was a change of government in the centre and the new administration in Abuja preached the gospel of due process and the need for the rule of law to be respected. The regime change in Abuja became a blessing and bonanza to the lagos state government, not only are they generating 3 times what Tinubu’s Goverment was generating they were also getting their grants from the FG and all withheld money was paid. Lagos now is experience one of the fastest growth rate in the country despite all the mini civil war in the delta – “If I can use that expression” and the huge money the FG is spending in Abuja in other to make it the number place of choice in Nigeria.

Lagos has benefited from

1. The hostility in Delta – A lot of companies have transferred there opertions to lagos.

2. The Niger delta Governors between 1999 to 2007 were said by many political commentators that they were one the most corrupt Governors in this new civilian dispensation. Ibori and Odili were said to have provide arms to the militants in the delta in order to harass their political enemies. Whether there is any truth in such allegations time will tell. Although Rotimi Amechi the current Governor is trying his best to undo the damages that has been done to rivers state in general and Port Harcourt in particular.

3. Fashola’s zeal to make the city a 20th century city with all amenities

4. There might be political understones to Fashola’s style of ruling only time will tell if he is eyeing the presidency in the months and years to come. Nigerians are seeking for their home made Obama.

5. Lagos tend to get the bulk of Diaspora Investment in Nigeria.

6. Disaporas working within the Fashola Government has help the government employ new ways in driving revenue up for the state. I will say the lagos state government is using skilled Nigerians to achieve some of fashola’s dream.

7. It has been proving lagos can survive with or without the federal allocation from the FG.

8. Like Anywhere in the world public works leads to increase in employment and employment increases spending power which increases services provided which in the end contribute to growth in that economy.

Conclusion –

The republic of lagos or should I say lagos colony has come to stay irrespective of what happens in the Niger delta or the corruption in Abuja. Lagos will continue to wax stronger and will sooner rather than later will be the commercial capital of West Africa with a mega city stretching from Lagos to Accra. The building block of this dream has been laid with the plan of  building the lagos to badagry 10 lane road which in time will extend to Port- Novo , Coutonu, Lome and eventually end in Accra.

Nigerians will not give a hoot if our law makers get N100 Million a week if an only if - :

1. You can board a train in lagos and within 4 hours you are in Abuja.

2. A business man can board a Train In the Morning in lagos and you are at Benin within 4 hours and Onitsha within 6 hours, enough time to do your business transactions and join your family for dinner in lagos.

3. Fast trains connecting all major cities in the country, we can afford it the money that has been embezzeled in Naija is $220 billion dollars since Independence that is 4 times the amount spent on the  Marshall plan giving to Germany to jump starts its economy after the 2nd world war.

4. You can travel on a flawless well maintened express roads without the current hazards.

5. Electricity ! Electricity !! Electricity !!! we all know the power of Light in Niaja please our elites give us lights, our senators give us light you are well paid . it is pay back time do something for your constituents.

6. The Federal Goverment should realise the bulk of Nigerians wealth comes from Niger delta that region should be developed to it is utomost. The Goverment should also realise the cost of building 1KM of road in Northern Nigeria will not build 100 meters of road in Niger delta. Niger delta is an area with about 3000 creeks, you can imagine building roads in such a place. Those state with a lot of rivers should be giving special funds for there development.

7. Jobs ! jobs !! jobs!!!, I have the blue print of Nigeria fulfulling 100 % employment in which all graduates will be employed if the Goverment wants to discuss this issue I am available for dicussion. Nigeria is a blessed country. If undergraduates are already head hunted b4 they finish their courses who will give a damn about senators salary.
