"The statement by CNPP’s National Publicity Secretary Mr. Osita Okechukwu said: "Whereas we do not support the dissolution of the local councils "

Your post justify my stance, like I said the thread is really thin on the ground and no room to manouvre around it, it is about a Governors action and the presidency's reaction any other contrary view or commentaries are side talk and off the mark. Your post does not justify anything.

Poor Obasanjo is facing a hard time indeed.I always wonder why people don't appreciate good things.I am not advocating for Obasanjo but the the truth remains that we celebrate bad people, rogues and the likes while the faithful fellas are vindicated. The man is not bad as he is been painted. Though he made some terrible mistakes but you can condemn him in totality.

Obasanjo is still one oF the great men in the world TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT

I agree with u, at the end of the day Nigeria is ruled by the president and 36 Governors and a minister in FCT. How can u blame the presidency for the nitty gritty of every day lives in the states. He performed his federal duties like paying up our external debt, he left a huge $52 billion in reserves, Abuja where he lives is a city to be proud of his only failings are the power sector and the bogus railway contracts then one should be asking the ministers that are in charge of those contracts questions rather than the president. The president delegates power.

It is very shameful when people talk so ignorantly that the wise would have pity on them.is nigerian population up to 140 million?how many people in a state have up to a million dollar?an average of 6500 millionaires in each lga!!if that is the case then we are not poor.for those who didn't know, most of those choice properties are owned by selected few who belong mostly to the political class. and they cannot be up to 500,000.

Your point has been noted, we are exchanging ideas here nobody knows for sure the true figure, I beleif it should not be more than 5 million people out of a population of 145 million I think that is a fair estimate. Some people beleif it should be even more. My suggestion that it may be as high as 35 million is a humourous joke u can tell by the puzzled look and the pulling faces expression I am only trying to highlighting the ills of our society albeit Chioma, Akala's daughter and Odili.

how many people in a state have up to a million dollar?  - Would anybody annouce to the world I am worth 1 Million dollars, no I dont think so who wants EFCC to start investigating them.
Politics › Re: Pdp Can Be Destroyed In 2011 by KnowAll(op): 10:49am On Mar 20, 2009
Greed and corruption would never allow them unite.

So we just have to keep managing the corrupt PDP leaders for the time being or until God himself send us help from above.

If Ghana can do it, there is no reason why we cant, for democracy to really work a non performing administration needs to be voted out of office. When that happens then I will say to myself Niaja has arrived, we wait patiently for that day.

Obj is the father of mordern democracy in Nigeria today, there is a tendency for even a horrible leader tommorrow to out perform OBJ by a mile, because that is the laws of nature nothing in life stands still, whether u like it or not there would always be improvements u can not hold back technology or advancement.

@Crazykid

The opposition does not have a choice 45 parties challenging 1 dominant party, that is a recipee for disaster for the oppostion. They have to come together as one and also attract into their ranks disgruntled PDP members if they are to have any chance.

P.S:- You can go through my posts on the subject matter again to gather substance. . .

There is nothing to substantiate in a thread that leaves just little room to manoeuvre out of the subject matter which is a “ Governor’s action and the presidency’s reaction “ any attempt to circumvent the main issue here we be totally off the mark, and I am afraid you have just hit a brick wall.

As you said no hard feelings.

The Nigeria goverment should do something about the $52 BILLION IN reserves to stimulate the economy, that is what is done all over the world.
Politics › Re: 5 Million Nigerians Worth More Than $1 Million Dollars by KnowAll(op): 5:37pm On Mar 19, 2009
It also came to light that out of a budget of N1.3 Trillion Naira in 2008 only N2.1 billion was returned to the coffers of the goverment that is 2% of the total buget. I will give it the benefit of the doubt that the remainder 98% was spent on various projects can that be true undecided nothing on the ground to buttress this point. Should I review my figure upwards , No, it might be the same people becoming millionaire in dollars yet again and that would be double counting, what of if they aquire new wives and girl friends Hmmmmmmmmmmm I think I shall do some thinking about that angle huh

You are too off target to know the difference and fully accept your folly. . .
I chose not to dissect your last post because it was full of errors.
I am tired of pointing facts to you( I could go on and on and you won't still get it)
So let's see how it all goes. . .
Till Then. . .

You are too proud to accept your arguments are baseless and irrelevant to the subject matter on this thread ( I can understand most Nigerians are like that ) . It is the thread poster that can guide you as to the suject matter in a thread. In this case it is a very narrow bone of contention and if care is not taking one could easily be led astray. The subject matter here is - "the error of the Governor and the reaction of the presidency" they say every action taking would certainly be followed by an equal if not stronger reation that is the case here. If the Governor had not taking the action this debate will be a non event and would not be talked about.
Politics › Re: 5 Million Nigerians Worth More Than $1 Million Dollars by KnowAll(op): 5:05pm On Mar 19, 2009
With the recent news that Chioma, Fani - pussy's Girl friend has houses in Ikoyi, VI, Asokoro, Dubai and London, and If we take account of all our theif theif politician's Girl Friends, concubines, Mistresses the fugure of Nigerians that are worth $1 million dollars might be approaching 20 million. wink

If we also take account that Akala's daughter lost $50, 000 to theives money to be spent on painting the town red , if this money is just for the weekend then I refuse to imagine how much she has in account. If the above scenerio is repeated amongst our looting politicians all over the country then I am afraid I might have to review the figure upwards to 35 million. 35 million Nigerians in a country of 145 million that is 1 in 4 Nigerian is a million in dollars can that be really true huh undecided

I am tempted to believe this figure because it also came to light that Peter Odili embezzled N100 BILLION Naira that is close to if not more than $850million dollars this kind of money can never be embezzled without making a few people millionaires in dollars along the way, and if this scenerio is repeated throughout the 36 states and FCT then I refuse to conclude that 35 million Nigerians is worth $1 million dollars, how can that be with so much poverty around us. The question to be asked is 1 in 4 of us a millionaire in dollars, well I have concluded when next I am in Nigeria when I count 4 people the 5th person must definately be a millionair, I will ask the 5th person for my share. undecided

@
IFELEKE
[b]What are you argueing about : It is your own argument that lacks substance u are totally off course from the the subject matter which is the error of the Governor dissolving the LG and the presidency taking advantage of this error. The issues u are raising are irrelevant to the thread. Issues bothering on what powers the constitution gives the Governor, if u want us to talk about that we will blog from now till Christ comes back, I dont really have the time for something that is off subject.

The are the facts as it stands on the ground as of today

1. The LG Chairmen / women are back to work yes or No

2. But the Chairman of the PDP in the state, Dr. Tayo Dairo, who accused Mimiko of violating the 1999 Constitution, said that the party would not allow the mandate given to council chairmen to be violated. He said that the PDP in the state was averse to “autocratic rule and abuse of power” by Mimiko, whom he described as one of the beneficiaries of the rule of law. -

I made mention of this particular fact the only reason why the presidency acted was the Governor made an error dissolving the LG COUNCILS instead of him allowing for the courts to make a judgement on this issue .

3. The ex-council chiefs had on Monday resumed work almost two weeks after Mimiko announced the dissolution of PDP -controlled LGAs on March 4, 2009. They had claimed that they were ordered back to work by the Presidency and the State House of Assembly. -

I also made it clear that the HSE OF ASSBLY did not in any way supported the Governor's decision, and at least we are in agreement that the Governor needs 2/3 of the house for dissolution to take place.

4. The sacked chairmen who had vowed not to surrender their mandate without a fight were also in the council secretariats on Tuesday. -

Why should they surrender their mandate I made mention of this fact if you go through my thread, did Mimiko surrender his mandate he is also a beneficiary of Yardua's inspired due process.

5. When contacted on the telephone, the chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in Ondo State, Chief Adedayo Omolafe, insisted that the councils had not been dissolved. -

That is from the horses mouth LG has not been dissolve, please stop arguing baseless argument.

6. Omolafe, who is also the former chairman of Akure South LGA said, “The only authority that has the power to dissolve the local government is the Ondo State House of Assembly and the House is yet to do anything in that regard. “So, there was no dissolution of local government anywhere in Ondo State.” -

Loud and Clear message the house has not done anything about the issue as it stands today, it may change in the weeks and months to come that is anyone's guess and that is not the issue on this thread.

7. The removed council chiefs had initially obeyed the governor’s order but suddenly resumed work on Monday following what was gathered by our correspondent to be a move by “from Abuja” to prevent the PDP from total “loss of face.” in Ondo State. -

that is why it was a mastroke from the presidency, he knew the Governor had err and he quickly capitalised on his errors, the Governor should surround himself with wiser advisers than he currently have at the moment. .

8. True there is court injuction b4 the LG election took place, that is not the essence of the thread, the essence of the thread is the error of the Governor that is the bone of contention and not the court injuntion.

And like I said the court decision is a debate for another day and irelevant to this thread.
Politics › Re: Yaradua's Masterstroke And The Making Of A Lame Duck Governor by KnowAll(op): 6:10pm On Mar 18, 2009
I am really not intrested in the theoretical parmutations and specultions of the power bestowed on a Governor. This thread is about what has taken place as of today as it stands now,  that an executive order of a state Governor has be reversed,  the LG Chairmen are back at work, whatever happens in court is a debate for another day. The bottom line is the Governor mis- calculated and his position as a Chief executive of the state has  been seriously compromised.
Politics › Re: Yaradua's Masterstroke And The Making Of A Lame Duck Governor by KnowAll(op): 5:59pm On Mar 18, 2009
The Governor can dissolve by Executive Order but He must duly notify the House of his intentions

A Governor can only dissolve by executive order if 2/3 of the house of Assembly are in agreement. The Governor has no such power to dissolves LG willy nilly. The house here is a PDP dominated house, you dont seem know the political landscape here you are looking at it from a general perspective, but when a Governor is refered to as a lame duck his power to influenec the house of assembly diminishes considerably.
Politics › Re: Yaradua's Masterstroke And The Making Of A Lame Duck Governor by KnowAll(op): 5:30pm On Mar 18, 2009
@Ifeleke

Yaradua is not meddling with the affairs of Ondo state he is only allowing the status quo to remain as it is, until such time that 2/3 of the house decides or the court decides the final out come. The presidency will however abide by what the courts decides or HSA . It can be assumed that the presidency has capitalised on the Governors error to reverse the Govermors pronoucement therby underming his authority in the state.

Rather than send the police men to battle armed robber in Oyo state,he's deceiving himself with all these shenanigans??

It is not the duty of the presidency to get himself involve in armed robbery surge in oyo state or any other part of Nigeria except if it gets out of hand and by my own collection the Governor of oyo state has not send an SOS (Save our soul to Abuja ), when u have a Governor there, u have CP, and you have the IGP in Abuja. But what you call shenanigans is politics and every politician who is worth his salt would be intrested in that no matter how low the political arena.

The Nigerian sitiutaion

Federal Goverment releases $10 billion to Banks, to realease to ingeneous Nigeria with fantastic ideas. But the biggest hicup would be the so called would entreprenuars would take the money and disapear and since we dont have credible a credit scoring system it is unworkable.

Which due process??

Go through th Nigerian constitution and find ou who has jurisdiction over LGs??

Rather than send the police men to battle armed robber in Oyo state,he's deceiving himself with all these shenanigans??

Its very simple,if you feel the governor has violated any law you get a restraining order dfrom the courts, you can't be taking side just because you appoint the inept IG of police.

It may take time ,but the nigerian people will overcome all these none-entities we call leaders !

I think every single one of those Chairmen and women have the same mandate to their constituency as the Governor himself, if Yardua did not act a precedent would have been established and grassroot democracy would have taken a big knock. We should commend the precedent for his quick reation even though it is politically motivated but there you go again that is politics.

His due process worked on this occassion and we should commend him for a job well done.

Politics › Re: Yaradua's Masterstroke And The Making Of A Lame Duck Governor by KnowAll(op): 3:07pm On Mar 18, 2009
There was an existing court order against the conduct of the local government elections in the first place. . .that is Mimiko's Argument.

That is one of his argument, but he actually dissolved and sacked the LG Chiefs because he is of the view that the goverment at the time was illegal. Secondly even if there was an existing court order the court had not declared the elections illegal, judgement has not been made by the courts either way the Governors actions was wrong and un-constitutional,

Quantative Easing

Is a form of printing money, but this time not physical money but electronic money. The USA has been doing easing its currrency since November 2008, The UK will commence easing hers from next month.

What does it actually means - Major banks in UK and USA have serious cash flow problems because of their exposure to the sub prime market leading to serious toxic debt in their accounts. The goverments of these countries have decided to bail out troubled banks that have over - exposure and by bailing out comes the easing

Easing process -  The Busineses provided by banks in the UK and USA are different from say Nigeria, the banks need to lend to small businesses for the economy to be ticking over.  If for what so ever reason  funds are not forthcoming to small businesses there would be a down turn in the company which will invariably lead to laying off and subsequently increasing the un-employment figures.  Small busineses employs 75% of the population so it is vital the Banks extends credit to small busineses.

Bailing out - The Goverment increasese the money in circulation by credicting the banks that are been bailed out. Basically $75 Billion can be credicted into a bailed out bank's account over night, the effect is like printing physical money the only difference is that this money is used by the bank to generate more businesses thereby stimulating the economy by giving funds to creditors and giving mortgages to those that require it.

Would it work in Nigeria   - Nigeria banks dont borrow to small busineses, that is why we have a very high un-employment rate in Nigeria. However the Goverment can stimulate the economy by giving some of our major banks money from the reserves that stands at $52billion to lend to un-employed  university graduates that has good business plan at very low rate of intrest. If 60% of such busineses succeed that could interprete to as high as 40 million people absorbed into the labour market. But I have my reservations if this will ever be implemented.

The presidency as one of the custodians of our constitution has identified the errors of an unruly Governor and acted fast in stopping the illegality. You call this “I am in love with such a mess” , having already told u I am a political animal, If this is not politics of the highest level then what is politics. Clearly I can see politics is not your thing and I will suggest your passion might lie in some other threads have you tried the sexuality or romance thread, you might be of more help there than here.

dirty twist and turn politics? - The proper name of twist and turn in this context in politics is politicking but to a lay man it is twist and turn, I dont see any reason why u getting so worked up and confused by a simple usage of words, u are derailing the thread by going off topic.

Twist are turns is politics and that is how is played in every democracy, twist and turns has been part of politcs since the begining of time. The problem with Nigerians and people like you is that you have become so accustomed to dictatorship ( Abacha type of rule, turn left u go u turn left, turn right u go turn right ) that u have not the slightest clue how politics is played or how it is to be played. If the same scenerio( ondo state issue ) happens in a PDP state where u have a PDP Governor it will be a different outcome. Do you know politics is a game undecided

How can a sane nigerian fall in love with the huge mess you call twist and turn? Are nigerians not tired yet?

Lawd have mercy.

The twist and turn only arose because of the unruly, uncostitutional and unthoughtful behaiviour of the Governor. You cannot blame Nigerians for that.

LOL

I am a political animal, I just love the the twist and turn of this particular case one minute you have a Governor who after winning in the courts promising heaven and earth only to shoot himself in the foot a few weeks after his coranation. And the crowning of the cake of this melody is he is now at the mercy of his political enemies what a turnaround, fantastic this is pure politics and democracy played at is very best.

same way nigerians vouched for an ill prepared yaradua."

If you think the names thrown here does not get to the ears of the individuals then u must be joking. Anybody at whatever political level they are operating at the moment we like the top job. The race to Aso rocks does not start 3 weeks to the election , but 2 to 3 years planning. When an Individual realise that Nigerians are naming him /her for the top job if he / she is really intrested in it he would start working on it by talking to the right people.

My mistake on my previous reply

The president's action is commendable and good for democracy even though it might be political motivated, having said that rules are rules and illegality should not be seen to be condoned or encouraged.
