Politics › Re: South Korea's Abandoned Airports: A Warning To Nigerian State Governors by KnowAll(m): 7:05pm On May 19, 2009
Ibadan, Akure, Benin, Warri, and Ilorin airports were not viable in the past. But of recent Ibadan and all these other towns airport has a new lease of life.

Because the Federal Capital has been moved to Abuja which is a good 450 miles from Ibadan, it has become necessary for people to take a flight to Abuja rather than travel on those precarious roads in Nigeria. When the seat of goverment was in Lagos it does not make sense taking a flight from Ibadan to Lagos. Having said that, the Ibadan - Abuja route seems to be the only viable route. Same goes for Akure and Ilorin. Benin and Warri due to other factors there have been an increase of flights from lagos to Benin and Warri because of the deplorable state of the Ore - Benin expressway. Obviously the Benin - Abuja route is also viable so is the Warri - Abuja route. Abuja has become a magnet and a hub not only in Nigeria but also in Africa.

Mr poster who do you think the trains fashola is going to build is for, the so called blue line and red line. You think big men will come out of their luxurious and take a train ride from Agege to Marina. If he delivers the trains he has taken out one of the principle burden affecting 85% of commuters in lagos. The masses will surly benefit from this.

"The money for the project is from FCTA and from private organisations, just like what Lagos is doing, sourcing from the private sector."

So if its a FCTA project, and it has already being captured by the 2009 budget why is the president launching the commmencement of work, surely that should be the a Hon Minister of the FCT's duty and not Yaradua's. The truth is Yaradua wants to get the credit having known that he has not done anything tangible close to 2 years now.

The 38 states in the federation has the right to ask questions like - is it value for money this $1.7 billion of our commonwealth spent on a local access road in Abuja. Nobody can question what lagos state does with its money because the 37 other states have gotten their own money are free to spend it as they wish.

"so 10 lane in abuja, 30 lane in lagos when nigeria died like chicken mugget onitsha-lagos, lagos-abuja-kaduna"

My friend the lagos project is not FG initiated project, if Abia state wants to buld 20 lanes in its cities it is their perogative. The lagos project is a lagos state initated project. The Abuja project is iniated by the FG.
Politics › Re: Pdp; You Are Fired. by KnowAll(m): 11:01am On May 19, 2009
You start by allign yourself to the oppositon party. Closly fought elections are easy to rig but overwhealm support for the oppostion by majority of the people would be impossible for the PDP to rig. It will be like the omoboriowo situation in ondo state where the state Governor was to be sworn in to office in Lagos. The recent concluded Ekiti election was a closely fought election, one can tell from the first few ward results that filtered through during the initial collation both PDP and AC accepted the the 1st early results although PDP had reservation of the results because they were at the receiving end.

"If done in Lagos, it is ok, if done by the federal government it is termed a waste of money. Tribalists and racist people."

Nobody is saying they should not build their white elephant, red elephant or even green elephant project in Abuja, what is wrong is for the president to launch the project with such a fanfare one would think he has not got work to do. For goodness sake he has a minister for the FCT that should be the person launching what is simply a local acess road in Abuja. He has 38 states to look after he is launching a local road in Abuja. Does he really no what the presidency is all about. If it was opening ceromony that is understandable but launching the commencement of work on is a no brainer and a daft thing to do.
Politics › Re: Abuja’s 10-lane Road Project To Gulp N257bn[$1.7BN] by KnowAll(m): 2:33pm On May 18, 2009
What Yaradua fails to know is that the whole country is his constituent and not Abuja alone. I am not against the building of the 10 lane road from no-where to no-where. I think it is duty of the minister of the FCT to annouce the commencement of such project and it should have been included in the 2009 budget so it will not be a suprise to anybody. For the preisdent to launch a project with all the fan fare telling the whole world that this project will not only move the country closer to acheiving its 7 point agenda but further enhances the country is ability in becoming one of the G20 countries in the world. What a lotta none sense. Yaradua should concentrate on his job and leave launching to what can be only described as a local road (albeit it is 10 lane road and will cost $1.7 billion) in Abuja to the Hon Minister of the FCT.
Politics › Re: Abuja’s 10-lane Road Project To Gulp N257bn[$1.7BN] by KnowAll(m): 11:38am On May 18, 2009
What I sense with this road is an un-healthy rivalry between the FG and Lagos State Goverment.

1. Fashola commences the 10 Lane lagos to badary road last week, this week FG and FCT embarks in the 10 Lane Abuja airport road. Yarardua is aware fashola is embarking on a lot of laudable projects in lagos.

2. Lagos state to bulid 2 surface train lines red and blue lines. FCT and FG to build a train from Abuja Airport to the city centre. " You ask yourself wait a moment but you are already building a 10 road lane in the same corridor". Is the Train from abuja airport going to be ferrying cattles from the airport to the city centre, where is the population, anyway they might want to rent a crowd, lagos has them in surplus and will advently be glad to lend Abuja some of its multitudes.

3. The Yaraudua FG is aware of the growing popularity of Fashola and has now pited his tent against Fashola, if lagos embarks on one project we will match them by embarking on 10 projects. I thought the FG is meant to be the umpire. It looks like a case where the refree is celebrating a goal with a rival football team.

4. 2011 is around the corner Yaradua is aware of a lot Nigerians are clamouring for Fashola to throw his hat in the ring come 2011. Despite yorubas having already had their turn as per presidency, the Obama phenomena has change people's perception of who they want in ASO Rock, as long as you can deliver Nigerians will vote for you en-masse. Fashola being a Governor for just over 2 years has delivered and is still continueing to deliver just imagine what that kind of person would do at the centre, he will not only be an asset to Nigeria but also an asset to Africa.

5. The Northerners do not know what tommorrow holds, their argument will be lets develop Abuja while we are still one country so it will be a net gain to the north if there is a split tommorrow.

The Mayor of london did not like the last Met Police Chief and he made it clear to him, the man had to go on eary retirement. How on earth can a man siiting in Abuja know what people are facing in Mushin, Ikot epene, or Bida. The way forward is local policing and the present structure should be scrapped. The so called State CP are appointed by the IGP in abuja and their allegience are to him rather than to the Governor of the state that does not make any sense.

But if you want to go abroad then go to America. London is almost sysnomous with lagos. Infact london is lagos that works while US is a foreign country.

The Federal Govt. is fully aware of what is going on in kano but it's deliberately turning a blind eye because of fears that it might trigger crises. . . mostly religious. . .

Its high time most learned Nigerians wake up and smell the coffee, lets call a spade a spade, Can someone tell me what the IGP in Abuja does, he sits there with his fat arse and complain we have not got this or that yet the last 2 IGP embezzled willing neely. Kano state is only reminding Nigerians of its long forgotten principles of federalism. Fashola had to supply the police in Lagos with new Jeeps walkie talkie and ammunitions. Where was IGP then, when it comes to local elections in Ekiti state that is when you know there is someone called IGP.

The Nigerian Police force should be disbanded. It is an anomaly in a true federalism and a pit of corrupt practices. Every state should have its own police force and the post of inspector general of police should be disbanded. The last 2 IGP stole more money than the salary of 15 european country prime ministers put together, we cannot continue to allow such anomaly to continue in this day and age. Kano state is only correcting the anomaly a lot of Nigerians cannot see. In America local goverments have their own police force so why not in Nigeria. There is no post like the IGP of America.

The airport would be over grown with weeds in about 15 to 20 years time. The airport in Ibadan is a good example, was deemed not viable becos Ibadan is too close to lagos and there are only so so much passengers in Nigeria. Only 5% of the population ever travels by plane. I agree it is a White elephant project.

If one major problem cannot be resolved easily other minor wahala's will statrt rearing their ugly heads albeit people calling for odua republic. e.t.c if a country that can be said to be the strongest nation military wise in west africa cannot dislodge a bunch of hooligans in niger delta how do you think they deal with a much bigger and wider alkaida network even the USA is struggling against them. But for a nation to call itself a proper regional power no one group should hold the country to ransome just look what is happening in Niger delta. How can the Nigerian govt be fighting a bunch of rascals for almost 5 years in Niger delta. That is a sign of weekness. The Nigerian govt should draw a line on these niger delta guys activities and in today's paper I noticed Yardua's is ready to tackle the problem head on by giving some who are prepared to down tools amenesty or face the full wrath of the military. He is planning to increase military presences in the months to come we wait to see if this will be successful.

If a man carries a gun into a bank and tries to rob ordinary N1000.00 if armed police men are nearby he will definately be shot to pieces. But our pen robber here is been considered for the post of the presidency, I think some of us need to have our head examined. I think there is a tedency for jane to see the act commited as keeping it within the family and therby reserving her supposed woman of virtue status. In her confused mind set she is at least not doing it with strangers or people she dosent know. But the fact is the act is wrong but for her ignorance she cannot fathom why it is wrong. I will suggets a remedy for her she should go find herself a boy friend then she will be able to come to terms of the gravity of her offence and probably change for good. I think she might also come to realise her husband's brother is just taking advantage of her confuse and disorientated state of mind.

The Governor's So called Illegality is a matter that has been taking the the appropriate place-THE COURT

But this case has been court for ages and it has been a non issue, and I am telling you for 100th time this thread is not about the case in court but the illagality of the Governor which to his suprise (I am talking about the Govenor here ) was met by an even more pro active action by the president. The Governor has taking the docile nature of the presidency and the president for granted. He the Governor on seeing the action carried out by the president now cried out foul, you cannot draw new rules when the game has started.

And the statement below from other opposition parties confirms the illegality of the Governor. I have already told you the subject matter in this thread is very thin on the ground and it is only base on 2 premises, 1) the action of the Governor and 2) the counter action of the presidency and maybe 3) both parties are playing high level politics.

"The statement by CNPP’s National Publicity Secretary Mr. Osita Okechukwu said: "Whereas we do not support the dissolution of the local councils "

You have valid argument when you take the overall picture of the case but most of those arguments are irelevant to presidency's action. The presidency would not have undermined the Governor's authority if the Governor did not take to what can be construed as an illegal dissolution of the LG elections.

The poster should have at least try to modify the title if he really wants a debate to something like " Can Nigeria really afford to have an Igbo president " this kind of question is open to debate and as long as people are not getting over heated and into self degradation the thread will be left open. Mr moderator keep the good work going.
Politics › Re: Yaradua's Masterstroke And The Making Of A Lame Duck Governor by KnowAll(op): 3:46pm On Mar 20, 2009
If you read all my posts on the subject matter, you will see that my argument is not based on the Governor's Action but the President's Illegality
That's My Point Friend

But the president's illegality as you put it was spurned on by the Governor's illegality in the first place hence the quotation from your post that three wrongs cannot make a right. The Governor's illegality was political motivated so is the presidency's so called illegality. It is a case of a guy pulling out a knife spoiling for a fight and the other guy pulls out a machine gun. The Governor on seeing the machine gun now cried out foul. The thread is about the Governor's illegallity rather than the response from the presidency, I have already mentioned that no one will be intrested in this case if it were not for the Governor's illegal dissolving of the LG election. If you want to highlight the president's illegality then you are in the wrong thread I will suggest you open a thread on that. The bone of contention here is high level politics is been played out in the media.

No doubt PDP is a formidable force to contend with in any General Election, Obviously as you can tell the intention of this thread is for the opposition to see the wisdom in ganging up against the PDP and taking some digruntled PDP members with them. This thread is an awareness campaign for the oppostion parties to come together.
