The president's action is commendable and good for democracy even though it might be political motivated, having said that rules are rules and illegality should be seen to be condoned or encouraged. |
Going through Nigeria newspapers this week nothing exciting as usaul then out of the blue came the news that the presidency has instructed the IGP to deploy police detachments to every LG HQ in ondo state. The reason been that the action of the state's Governor was not only illegal and unconstitutional but it is outright stupid to me. When I first read that the Governor has sacked all the duly elected LG Chairmen (even though we all know the elections was probably rigged but that is not the issue here ) I said to myself that cannot be, it is illegal the Governor has not got the power to do that, but then, I later convince myself anything is possible in Nigeria. Yaradua - Our Mr due process president realise the Governor has made a fundermental error and striked like a boa constricture that has been monitoring its prey this singular act is a master stroke if not maradonic in nature. The Governors Argument 1. The Goverment that authorised the election was an illegal Goverment hence the election is illegal and should be declared null and void. 2. This argument has holes written all over it, does it mean if the Agagu goverment builds and commisions a mordern hospital in Akure, the goverment of Mimiko would tear down the hospital because it was built and commisioned by an illega goverment. Basically Mimiko has shot himself in the foot and would have to dine with the devil. With all LG''s controlled by PDP and PDP been the majority in the house the Governor is at their mercy. We wait to see Yardua's next move. |
I think the presidency had to step in here, forget about due process for the time been. PDP will not want to lose all the SW states, it will take them another 50 years to replicate what OBJ did, to break into the heart of Awolowo country is not an easy feat. You can see the presidency has started weilding their big stick Ondo state is clear example. |
US Dollar rate, |
Yahoo finance only shows the official exchange rate. N200 is the black market rate. the diffrence between official rate and black market cannot be as high as N50.00. 200 is wishful thinking for u guys in america, it might still get there in the weeks to come but for now the black mkt rate would probably +10 the tribune rate which would be around N185. |
At least Akala can stop looting and and start ruling now he should have no fear anymore. |
@Blacksta- price +/- 10 if there is scarcity, but I beleive you can get your dollars at this rate. Tue. 17th March, 2009 Location Currency Sell Buy CBN Dollar 145.60 146.60 pound 204.20 205.80 Euro 188.06 189.35 Lagos Dollar 174.00 176.00 - by lagos lagos island or Eko hotel VI pound 243.00 245.00 Euro 220.00 224.00 Ikeja Dollar 174.50 176.50 - by Ikeja Internatinal and local airport pound 243.50 245.50 Euro 220.50 224.50 |
i think this is just a head line grabber, just checked the official rate and black market 145 and 175 |
We look foward to what our due process goverment of Yardua will do about a proposal that is not only african in nature but is as natural to an african as breathing. |
The guy that opened the thread that he does not believe the problem of nigeria is its leaders has been proved right judging from the comments of this Mr Knowall. I opened the thread or what are you talking about. |
with Atiku romancing with everbody, we are not sure where the wind will eventually blow him either with pdp or the opposition, he seems to be courting both camps. Lets see what permutations we have if eventually he decides to re-decamp with pdp if there is an expression like that. Thats if Yardua throws in the towel and says enough is enough Atiku Demiji Bankole Soludo this will not be a bad combination reps all 3 major tribes this will finish any opposition combination. If on the other hand Atiku peaches his camp with the oppostion Atiku Fashola Duke ( thats if Duke becomes disillusioned with pdp ) Atiku Fashola Ngozi Iweala ( if Ngozi's is disillusioned with pdp ) Atiku Ngozi Iweala Fahola depends on what pdp puts out. this will be acceptable to all parts of Naija. We will wait and see, this thread is a count down to 2011 and will be active till then, there will be sevral chops and changes along the way, it will be worthy of reading the various permutations before 2011. |
At least a LG Chairman built a beautiful lodge for his excellency of his state, thats one development worthy of praise in a Niaja LG, we hope to see more commendable projects. And I bet such a chairman as this chairman was not short changed by his state goverment. |
You have nothing to argue about if it is corruption u want to legalize.Since you want to become a politician start perfecting on how u will loot your constituency Corruption is already de facto legalized in Naija whether u like it or not, or how else do u explain your ex Vice president attendance of Alams burial, its only in Naija u will see a man that has ambition of running for the president mingling with a convicted cross dresser ex Governor. |
they will just cross the border into otta, and start shooting from their, its a no brainer ![]() I only hope baba no demand in own tax ![]() |
but the kind of thinking you exhibit here will not allow this inward thought. This thread is about Legalizing corruption and not revenue alloaction formula, u will have to talk to your reps about that. |
the more thoughts like this the more retrogressive we become. think how to generate revenue out of this stupud oil , then maybe we all will be involve in running our affairs cos as it is now we think inwardly its not my money being stolen. Its true talk my brother, I will like us to go back to what we had in the 60's but a lot of Naija politicians will vote against such proposals, they are use to the finer things of life now and have probably forgotten how to plant groundnut or grow cocoa |
If the people that make up the L.G.A are not complaining maybe they are happy with the project. What u said is right that is part of the dividends of democracy. If a localty beleive the most important project for them is to build a mordern Governor's lodge for the chief executive of the state what is wrong with that. Our top bankers are buying planes to facilitate their jobs our pastors the same thing why not the Chief executive of the state. I dont see anything wrong with that its the people's wishes. |
"Mr knowall tell me that nigeria did not witness the greatest development in its independent history when we where still existing as regions when every zone controlled and generated its own revenue and paid taxes to the center." You are right, there was oil Nigeria even then but we did not know its true value not untill the Udoji awards of 1974. Armed with this new knowledge we have today and the realisation of the kind income a state can earn, I will doubt if any of the northern states and to a great extent a lot of even southern states will want us to go back to what we had in the 60's. Obviously rivers state and delta state will want each state to raise it revenue and contribute to the centre. |
At least the LG Chairman is a doer and not a promiser like most of our politicians, I would vote for doer any day than those that promise heaven and earth. Some will even promise, no Governors's lodge , Where is the money for Governor's lodge cannot be traced. Building we no see money we no see. |
This is why it is ironic There is nothing ironic about it in the sense we still have a strong central or federal goverment. And allocation of funds to the states would be as stipulated in the constitution as it stands. Unless there is a constitution review in which case the current arrangement will not be applicable. |
However, comments above are ironic, as asha 80 pointed out. lol. whats is ironic about my proposals here it is not a depature from any of my previous stance. |
IF CURRUPTION IS LEGALISED IN NIGERIA YOU AS A PERSON WOULDNT HAVE MONEY TO BROWSE IN THE CAFFEE ANY MORE Thats why I advocate the creation of more states, if we have as many 75 states it will weaken the central, the central must be weakened in a proper federal structure. The federal goverment should hand over all these items to the states. 1. Schools - FG should not be running schools including Uni 2. Industries 3. Airports 4. Roads there should be no federal roads, state roads e.t.c there should only state roads and LG road. 5. prisons 6. police we dont need IG of police for the whole nation, what we need is IG police for each state. 7.Courts The only thing the FG must concern herself with immigration control, customs, armed forces, foerign affairs. There will be a healthy rivary amongst the different states which will eventually lead to overall development of the whole nation like what happened in Europe in the 19th century . Little states Luxemborg and lichenstein created a niche markets for themselves by only concentrating on off shore financial dealings. |
And why should they be allocated money by the federal govt when they must have been constituted? Why can't the generate funds themselves? Why are the states in the current dispensation allocated money from the federal goverment. This thread is not about internal generated revenue. |
legalising corruption is like adding petrol to a burning fire, you know what that means. At least Egypt has not burned into oblivion, neither is it a basket case like a lot african countries. Egypt are practising what they feel is best for them, to the contrary their economy is growing from strenght to strenght. The topic should actually have been African democracy but the reason why I went for legalising corruption is because the state allocation will be paid into the Governors personal account and from their it will disbursed. Obviously this is not the practise anywhere in the world and can be interpreted as a form of lagalized corruption because abuses can easily be made. But then with what we have at the moment most Governors have a blank cheque to do as he / she pleases. |
Part of me we like to join in the new political dispensation back in Nigeria, but after reading stories like this it deflates any enthusiasm you have. |
at what number do you stop. when all local govt. become states? It really does not matter how many states we have as the same money each constitute part gets is still the same. If for example oyo state is divided into 3 states, assuming they get 4 billion from the federal goverment, the re-alloaction to each constitute part will still be the same 4 billion only that certain areas based on population will get more than others. Whatever western states was getting in 1975 is what ogun, oyo, oshun, ekiti and ondo all combine together are getting today. |
Guy if you want us to go back to the way we where before colonialism then nigeria has to divide. What has division got to do with africans practising what they practise for centuries, the Igbos will practise what they beleif is the best for them, the yorubas will practise their own democracy so will the hausa's and every other tribes in naija, the only think I will advocate for is the creation of more states so no group will be minority in any state. |
some people mennnnnnnnn just dnt know where to stop!!! amara brain strom hah Its people like you that has been brain washed by oyinbo people, we should go back to the way we use to do things before the advent of colonialism. Or how else can u explain why not a single African country is doing well with this western model, its just not working. My thesis was on Traditional African democracy. You see countries like Egypt they are using a style of goverment that is unique to that part of the world and as a result have the 2nd strongest economy in africa. |
@ Mr Know it all, I agree with you 100%. This is absolute day light robbery and something has to be done to put an end to this menace that continue to threatens our democrazy and the functionality of our Local Government Administrators. What do you suggest we do your majesty sir? There are 477 Chairmen in Nigeria, If they think whatever arrangement they have with their state goverments is fine with them, what can an ordinary citizens really do. Except the new FOI- Freedom of Information bill is passed by the house of reps. If and when this bill is finally approve you can go to your local goverment and demand you want to see their books, and if for any reason you find any shortfall between what the federal goverment gave the state to pass on to the LG then as a concerened citizen u can seek redress from the courts, If no geniue reason for the deduction can be established. But the bottomline is the onuses lies with the Chairmen and women of the LG to seek redress if for any reason they are not happy with the allocation hitting their accounts. |
Imagine this scenerio OBJ and his cohorts quietly gain access to the Yardua house hold met his house help, OBJ: Where your oga, House boy: he dey 4 room, OBJ: Where is the room, HB: na the room be that ( pointing to the 2nd room to the left of the living quarters ) OBJ and cohorts berges into the room, Yardua on seeing OBJ the following transpired Yaradua: Ah Mr President why the sudden visit, Have I been implicated in some fraud or something, I am the only surving Yardua, he was pleading that they should not arrest him. OBJ burst into an uncontollable laughter, and said OBJ: No, No, we are not arresting you, infact we have come to make you the next president. Yaradua: Me president, president of what, OBJ: of Nigeria of course, Yardua: What happened to Atiku OBJ: forget that man, u are the people's choice. Yardua: But I have no programme for the country OBJ: Use the Katsina programme its all one Nigeria. Yardua: Kai, that na big job oh, baba u for tell long time ago, OBJ: dont worry u will be ok, its a piece of cake, even a primary 4 year child can run this country. Conclusion : Yardua was not ready that is why he has been dilly dallying for 2 years. What Atiku said is right. |
@Knownutinall Now your glaring ignorance is going Olympic. It is not a matter of dying with the king, rather, let the truth be told for the benefit of the unborn generation. Our history cannot be swept under the carpet, because your likes has missed the bus to basic facts of history. Out of pity for your ignoramus tendencies, let me avail you some books you should busy yourself reading to take you out of the deep well of ignorance you have decided to bury yourself in. 1)Omotosho Kole - Just Before Dawn 2)Madiebo A. Alexander - The Nigerian Revolution and the Biafran War 3)Mainasara A.M - The Five Majors: Why we struck 4)Ojukwu Odumegwu Emeka - Because i am involved 5)Forsyth Frederick - The making of an African Legend; The Biafran Story 6)Muffet D.J.M - Let Truth Be Told: The coup d'Etat of 1966 7)Obasanjo Olusegun - Nzeogwu Okwudibia Nnoli - Ethnic Politics in Nigeria9)Ojukwu Odumegwu Emeka - Ahiara Declaration, Official Government Publication on Biafra Civil War 10)Achuzia J.O.G - Requiem Biafra I could go on and on, there are so many documented books by active participants during the course of the war and after the war. God be thanked for books. They are the voices of the distant and the dead, and make us heirs of the spiritual life of past ages, so my friend try and feed your empty soul with information via books and stop all this rants. I have read enough nusery rhymes in my time to now engross my precious time in what can be tantamount to 2nd hand information and to call them facts and knowledge beats my imagination. It shows your shallowness when it comes to put your point across. If you are in a law court not those naija courts, in a western nation bringing information from a third party and now peddling them as facts is nothing more than hear-say and cannot be admissble as a statement of fact. This are statements of fact 1. Biafra lost the war 2. Ojukwu the Generallisimo of the Biafran army abandon his men when they needed him most ( Infact it is within the right of any rememnats of the Biafran or even the Nigerian Army( Since the Nigerian army absorbed the Biafran Army ) army to issue an abandonment warrant on him because what he did was contrary to the tenants of a proper military commander. 3. If he was not a coward then what is a coward ? , is the word coward the new hero and the word hero the new coward, I might need explanation here. |
u don come again. If legalise corrpution , it will still only benefit about 0.01 % of the popultion of Nigeria. what is the ratio of people in government against population. I dont think so, the citizens of the state we see the Governor of the state as their father, the onuses will be on the Governor to repay its citizens for their loyalty. One clear example was Awolowo's free education in western Nigeria. |
