Christianity Etc › Re: Why Did God Create An Imperfect World? by KnownUnknown: 7:45pm On Feb 28, 2022
budaatum:
We are discussing God. It's in the topic of the thread, known. And creation does include Adam and Eve and the entire God books and a lot more, if one asked me.

What is your meaning of luminaries, please?
We weren't discussing God and topics often veer of the OP so don't act brand new. I asked specifically about the lord you referred to in your response to me not any god. And you did say “nothing in particular” but if you mean God, fine.

Luminaries as in the orbs that doth the sky.
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Did God Create An Imperfect World? by KnownUnknown: 7:36pm On Feb 28, 2022
budaatum:
Believing, mostly. When one lacks understanding of religious texts.
What do you mean understanding?

budaatum:
Oh how so little you seem to know that some study Things Fall Apart for different reasons like trying to understand the foundations of the religious beliefs of some.
Oh well, you can assume what I seem to know but nothing I said implies what you assume.

budaatum:
I'd say, "understanding the text", since calling it an allegory kind of implies anything but. After all, it could be a story or mythology too, or "the foundation of religious belief" of some, though, to me it's words in a book to be understood
Known. How can I possibly be insisting that my own understanding must be your own understanding? Is my mind your mind? Don't you have a mind if your own to use to get your own understanding?

You will notice that while you keep insisting it is my own interpretation, I keep correcting you that it is my understanding of a text we claim to have read.
I never said anything you are claiming. I didn't tell you not to call it understanding so why are you up in arms because I called it your interpretation when you can't show your interpretation to be the intended meaning anyway. Call it understanding all you want.

budaatum:
Please know that buda is stating buda's understanding of the text, specifically with the insistence that you use your own eyes and mind like Eve did to get an understanding of your own as opposed believing like ignorant Adam did
You are the one treating your interpretation like a fact so maybe you're believing like ignorant Adam.

budaatum:
Did Eve not disobey a commandment when she used her own senses to test if she would die on the day that she ate or not?
budaatum:
But it wasn't poisoned nor triggered the decay that eventually killed them, so what's your point?
I can say it was poison in the fruit that triggered the decay that eventually killed them just like you can say that they were slaves in the garden to prove your point.

budaatum:
Should they not have bothered to check instead of making "could have" crap up in their own heads?
I'm sure you can use your senses to increase the amount of choices instead of the two you have decided on.

budaatum:
"When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom".
I can't see how your allegory lense or any lense at all makes you think that's not "smarter".
Isn't the above supporting the claim that's its an allegory for pursuing knowledge/wisdom?
The story is also more than the eating of the fruit but your interpretation doesn't take that into account. Also, she saw that it was desirable for gaining wisdom prior to eating it.

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

budaatum:
For you, perhaps. We can't exactly discuss Adam and Eve without them, and we should not discard them without first working hard to make the unknown known.
We weren’t discussing Adam and Eve when we first mentioned the Lord and the “nothing in particular” definition can’t work in the Adam and Eve story.

budaatum:
What is your understanding of "lords and gods", KnownUnknown?
The luminaries.
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Did God Create An Imperfect World? by KnownUnknown: 5:56pm On Feb 28, 2022
budaatum:
No. Some still fear gods while some don't give a damn just like in olden times.

I do think Adam is a very good example of religious ignorance however you wish to take it.
What is religious ignorance?

budaatum:
Do note that taking it as allegory or literally is blindness.
Understanding the allegory is the cure to the blindness.

budaatum:
You don't have such problems when you read Things Fall Apart you'd find, and should wonder why.
Things fall apart does not represent the foundation of religious belief and it doesn’t fal under the confusion of allegory or literal classification

budaatum:
And yes, you may call it my own interpretation, which is based on my own understanding, as opposed to what one might have been told to ignorantly believe. Hopefully, you don't mind me using my own mind to understand what I read.
They can be slaves or freemen. Makes no difference as long as you don’t insist that your interpretation is right, which you’ve argued with people about.

budaatum:
In your own opinion, did Adam use his senses?
Did Eve use her senses?
Neither were using their senses if you are referring to critical thinking because they are both presented as simpletons to be commanded.

budaatum:
You would find that no lord directly instructed her, but please explain what the potential danger about the fruit was.
The fruit could as well have been poisoned. It could have triggered the decay that eventually killed them.
It’s not like they got smarter after eating the fruit. They realized they were naked but still didn’t make clothes and the Lord had to make them clothes and basically instruction to till the land. One can interpret the story anyway that’s suitable if one doesn’t stick to the actual meaning of the allegory.

So one can say that the fruit was poisonous and that Eve clearly wasn’t “using her senses”.

I added it because you are not the only one I am communicating with even if I quoted you. Take what you want from it and strike out the rest if you want Unknown. The main point, that by "the law, I mean that which points to conduct which benefits the human race and extends its existence", works pretty well too without you being given any land by any lords or gods.
Okay. No need for lords and gods.
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Did God Create An Imperfect World? by KnownUnknown: 4:14pm On Feb 28, 2022
budaatum:
Nothing in particular really.

It's more whatever you make of the entire sentence than what I might mean by any one particular word. This after all can't be the first time you've heard "the Lord", so you must have your own meaning or opinion of it through which you can understand the entire sentence.
Of course I’ve heard about “the lord” but just like you’ve proven, it depends on the interlocutor, most of whom are only versed in the exoteric. You say “nothing in particular”, which I think is a way to escape defining terms and clarifying what you mean.

If it means nothing, why add it?
By "the law", I mean that which points to conduct which benefits the human race and extends its existence [s]on the land that the Lord hath given to it.[/s]
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Did God Create An Imperfect World? by KnownUnknown: 4:02pm On Feb 28, 2022
budaatum:
No god's uphold any laws, Unknown. Laws are for humans to uphold or not, just that in ancient days the fear of the gods made humans uphold the laws more as we learn from Adam whom we read choose to remain ignorant rather than use his own senses for fear of a lie he was told.
The fear of gods deters some from their worst inclinations and some invoke gods to justify their worst inclinations. Still, some will chose to obey or disobey regardless of god while some discount god altogether. Do you think there is a difference between modern and olden times?

Is Adam a good example to illustrate your point?
If you take Adam to be literal, I can understand the fear of god making him uphold “the law”. If you take Adam as allegory then what you wrote is just your interpretation.

In your interpretation you say Adam didn’t use his senses but is that accurate?

Adam chose to obey the lord while Eve chose to obey the serpent in the heat of the moment. If the serpent had accosted Adam instead of Eve, what makes you think he wouldn’t have “used his senses”?

Was Eve using her senses by eating a potentially dangerous fruit? Or was she just obeying like she obeyed when the lord told her to eat the other fruits?

They're not meant to be posted casually on Nairaland. Physics is serious work for me, and what you ask for isn't meant for this community.

I don't even plan to post any articles or works I did in the past or am doing at the moment on Nairaland.

After the day's job and having just finished watching the AFCON semifinal match, the next thing is to have a good night sleep, not keep a vigil engaging in Nairaland's cyclical arguments that never end.

Only jobless people do that.
You must be pretty busy between your job as a tech writer, physicist, and theoretical physicist all performed on a mini laptop. Sleep tight and may you have lucid dreams.

Instead of wasting my time with cyclical arguments on Nairaland, it's better to organize my ideas, develop them scientifically, and put them in the form of a research paper, published for scrutiny and peer review or in the form of a book.

And how is this my business?
I didn’t say anything about your research or writing that are yet to be published (is your career just budding or are you a theoretical physicist? It seems your expertise changes from post to post. If your career is just budding (MSc/PhD) how are you so far ahead that you are working on books?). I said post some of your equations and explain them. They don’t have to be related to your “research and books” or be original.

Do you favor string theory or quantum loop theory? Why?

These should be very simple questions for someone of humongous genius.

No, there's nothing like F = MA in Physics as stated above.

It's good you changed it to the correct equation, F = ma, which is even correctly put as F = ma

To prevent ambiguity and confusion, the correct use of symbols is crucial in Physics.

And a, the symbol for acceleration, is different from A, the symbol for area or A magnetic vector potential or A, the S.I unit of electric current (Ampere).

Judging from your posts and comments, it's clear you don't even know the basics in Physics.

Nairaland is a funny place.
Congratulations, you copied from some source and corrected simple typos.
Theoretical Physics equations aren’t as easily searchable otherwise you would have posted some already.

Read the post again but this time slowly to comprehend the clear statements I made there. Can you tell me where I told you all things have a source or origin?

I don't think you read and understand the post you quoted. And it's obvious you don't know Jack about agnosticism (check the attached image).

Whether agnostic or not, every sane person thinks and talks about the source or origin of all things. But it's not everyone that calls the source of all things God.

Show me where I made such an assertion.

Your comments don't prove this. And then you don't even read things carefully.

Show me where I told you God/god is a scientific term. I don't really have the time for these cyclical arguments on Nairaland when you don't understand simple and clear expressions I made above.

Nothing is a scientific/philosophical concept. It says the Universe can arise ex nihilo (from nothing ).

If the hypothesis turns out to be true, that means the Universe has no origin or first cause.

Then, it's even a scientific fact something can come from nothing.

Personally, I posit the Universe can be self-created or come from an earlier universe that's self-created.

These sources explain the concept of nothing well:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nothing_comes_from_nothing
Lawrence Krauss' A Universe from Nothing.

It's better for me to not to go into this aspect at all. I don't have the time to engage in this sort of length arguments. And these longs posts take time to type.

You can call my points and assertions anything you like; that has no real effect.

No need to go into this. All these Nairaland arguments are time wasting.

Maybe later in the year, I can create a thread about some of your inputs when I'm less busy.

I don't want to start the New Year with Nairaland arguments that don't add a dime to my account.
Lol. All these are a waste of time. The pertinent questions are the ones below.

You're the one making those ideas (quantum mysticism and co) up in your head because you're clearly ignorant about the established concepts and principles in Physics, and the hypotheses and ideas modern physicists in various parts of the world are working on.

(Then, you can't even spell mysticism correctly.)

Even the simple equation you put up there is trash; there's smiley nothing like F = MA in Physics. First learn the basics in Physics before you discuss about what you don't know.

Better stop discussing anything related to Physics because it's obvious you've no idea about what you're talking about.

Scientists still have to prove this claim.
Don’t view theoretical physics through the lens of mysticism. The physicists who actually do the work do not assert anything similar to what Quantum Mythicists claim.
People who barely understand F = MA making theoretical physics claims is the height of absurdity.
Christianity Etc › Re: Thank God For Broke Christians & Rich Unbelievers by KnownUnknown:
A001:
That means you don't understand what agnosticism is all about. An agnostic says there may be a God or not, meaning the nature of God (meaning the source of all things) is unknown.

Deists believe in God, but I don't.
You are not an Agnostic because you have created your own concept of God and claim it’s unknowable. The gods the agnostic say may exist or not is any god presented to them; the same gods you refer to as ancient aliens. The God you claim you don’t know exist is your own creation, so how are you not a deist?

Agnostic aren’t speaking about the “source of all things”, they are expressing skepticism about claims made by others. They certainly don’t reclassify Gods as aliens so they can call their own concept of “God” unknown.

It’s similar to Christian’s who claim other gods are demons but their god is the real one.

Why should the source of all things be “God”. If you call it “God”,you’re making a huge assumption already about its singular nature.

A001:
This simply shows you're not widely read.
But I’m widely read enough to recognize science fiction influenced by religious fables.

A001:
It seems you don't know science itself has its roots in (natural) philosophy and that many principles and concepts in science today started as philosophical concepts and arguments before the Age of Scientific Enlightenment.

Philosophy is the mother of science, of all disciplines. That's why every student of Physics in universities takes courses in Philosophy.

As said earlier, scientists (astrophysicists and cosmologists) conduct research on the source or origin of the Universe.
Maybe you should do a quick Google search to check the meaning of cosmology.
God, as defined by some, is the origin of the Universe. Some others take the Universe as God.
But God isn't a scientific term and even if scientists discover an origin of the Universe in the future, most likely, they won't call it God.
You could have saved yourself some time (which you don’t have much of) by just agreeing that god isn’t a scientific term and science isn’t about looking for the supernatural.

A001:
It's all semantics. And based on the current understanding of the universe, it's possible the Universe has no origin but arose from nothing.
What is nothing?

A001:
Of course, it's not all the historical facts about them that are true, and most are even exaggerated tales concocted by their worshippers.
And also, it's not all of them that really existed.
No dispute here.

A001:
I don't have the time to argue much about this. When I am discussing with someone that knows a lot about human history and language development, I'd know from the depth of their takes on issues.
There is no argument because you are just making claims that can be categorically dismissed because they are your assumptions about early history.
e.g. you claim that it was singular individuals that came up with language, which is absurd because language evolved/evolves and it most likely wasn’t created by singular persons. Unless we are talking about fictional languages created by linguists but those are still based on extant languages.

Explain how one person would have come up with Tagalog.

A001:
Yes, if someone is existing today, but dies later on in the future, they become an alien to this planet.
Aren’t they just dead?!! What do you mean by they “become alien to this planet”?

https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/alien

3. ADJECTIVE
If something is alien to you or to your normal feelings or behaviour, it is not the way you would normally feel or behave.

Living Faith already has a master plan till 2032
yet govt does not have a plan for 2020!
What's the plan. Increasing ignorance in the society so they can keep the cash rolling in?

You know Illogicality is the trademark of most Africans. They fail to think beyond their prejudices and sentiments hence Africa has remained on the ground.
Mr. Momodu is a shining example of that "African illogicality". Africa remains on the ground because the place is littered by ignorant, myopic, and superstitious people like him.

Can we imagine how developed the nation would have been if we have people with the right mindset at the helm of the nation’s affairs?
The corrupt church leaders you are advocating for are not qualified to helm any nation's affairs. In a world were you need visionary leaders, what can a pastor offer?
Running a cult where your followers have been brainwashed to give you money is different from running a country.

damosky12:
God bless all our pastors.
THE PUBLIC SHOULD BE CAREFUL WITH THEIR TONGUE.”
Your god is worthless and you need to stop being servile towards pastors. There's nothing good about people who scam others and enrich themselves in the process. If the society wasn't so impoverished and corrupt, these cretins wouldn't be placed on the pedestal they are placed on. Even in more developed societies, the most impoverished and downtrodden are usually the ones under the corrupt spells of these useless pastors. A thriving society with intellectually vigorous people is not looking at purveyors of ignorance for leadership.

And could that reasonably be the case? A vacuum which is the source of the universe and still part of the universe? Is that not contradictory?
At all events, bear in mind of course, that no such perfect vacuum is observed anywhere.
You are the one claiming the universe resides in vacuum of real time.
I’m just pointing at the similarity of his virtual particles in a vacuum to your claims.

His claims about the vacuum being “nothing” is the issue anyone would have with his claims.

You are the one who should bear in mind that the real time vacuum doesn’t exist or you haven’t done anything but made claims based on credulity.

Explain how the real time is self existent maybe we will get somewhere.

Beautiful! - very very close to exactly how I see it! - Save that infinite real time is not nothing either!
But keep in mind that his vacuum is part of the universe not independent of it.

And his two succeeding posts on same.
You always rightly criticize that one physicist’s idea of “nothing” because it involves a vacuum but the idea supports your cosmology. The universe could have sprung out of the vacuum of infinite real time, which has infinite possibilities.
