hotseat: ■ "potential consequences", as you call it, has come to play. Why then the weeping and wailing? Pay attention to what I said... and make sure to carefully process it before you respond. Kobojunkie: Again, you are saying anything new or with meaning. FREEDOM OF SPEECH as proffered to every Citizen by the Supreme Law of the Land means people have a right to say what they want to say and, yes, face the consequences afterward. The same Law that offers the benefit also states the potential consequences. So, anyone who uses the benefit is already aware and basically acts knowing full well of all of this. |

hotseat: ■ Freedom of speech has its limitations. It is not guaranteed if one uses it as a cover to peddle lies about others. There are no limitations except the one you imagine in your head because the very same Law that proffers it also defines the potential consequences that follow it leaving it up to those who take advantage of the right to also accept the potential consequences as they do. |

hotseat: ■ Freedom also involves obligation. There's nothing like freedom of speech to peddle falsehoods and damage the character of others because where your freedom ends, someone else's own begins. Again, you are saying anything new or with meaning. FREEDOM OF SPEECH as proffered to every Citizen by the Supreme Law of the Land means people have a right to say what they want to say and, yes, face the consequences afterward. No one is granted by law the right to illegally abduct any citizen in the way that Burna boy did to this other boy! |

Ofodirinwa: ■ Ruin what? So you're ok with people using money to kidnap their fellow human being more talking on social media? I don't agree with your priorities based on how your interpret the case, but Darlington is a US citizen and the United State legal code in any state will fully handle this case. Burna boy posting that post on social media is damning evidence but since Nigeria is disorganized and corrupt, his only hope is everyone involved lying on his behalf. Burna boy is also rumored to have killed a man (his guards did it) for objecting to burna boy flirting with his wife in a club. The worship of money is a problem in NIgeria but Speed, as an American, should not suffer its consequences. If he wants to sue he can. 1. NO! What I said is that Darlington, since he is also an American — I was informed this happens to be the case — ,could go all out and ruin the reputation of Burna here following the treatment he was served in Nigeria. |

Politics › Re: Hardship: I Expect Youths To Storm Different Streets And Protest– Rotimi Amaechi by Kobojunkie: 8:19pm On Oct 09, 2024 |
Ofunaofu: In an interview with Igbere TV, Amaechi expressed surprise that Nigerians have not taken to the streets to protest the rising cost of living and the ongoing economic hardship. Amaechi criticized the passive reaction of the public, suggesting that Nigerians should be more outraged at the current situation. “People should be angry because you cannot see a group of people stealing your money without doing anything. I am really angry with the citizens because they are not doing anything,” he stated. Reflecting on the worsening economic conditions, including skyrocketing prices of essential commodities and energy, Amaechi pointed out the high cost of diesel as one of the severe impacts of inflation. “Look at what happened in Edo State, should any politician be campaigning in Edo State? See, some of us cannot afford to buy diesel again because it’s costly,” he added. The former minister, who served under the Muhammadu Buhari administration for nearly eight years, expressed his disappointment at the lack of protests, whom he expected to lead the charge for change. “I expected youths to storm different streets and protest against the high cost of living, but I have not seen anything that shows that they are serious,” Amaechi declared. Amaechi’s comments come at a time when Nigerians are grappling with the effects of subsidy removal, high inflation, and a generally tough economic climate. I no blame this man and all of Nigeria's politicians. I blame the Nigerian people. |

hotseat: ■ Before making statements or accusations against someone, one must be sure of his facts and evidences. Freedom of speech does not include defamation of character because there are laws governing how we use our mouths or hands. A lawyer in Enugu State was recently fined the sum of N150m for both general and examplary damages arising from defamation of character of a fellow lawyer. Freedom of speech is not freedom to peddle falsehoods about people. Stop giving this useless advice of yours! People have a right to say what they want to say and, yes, face the consequences afterward. It is a right they have by law too. That does not however give anyone the right to illegally abduct them in the way that Burna boy did to this other boy! |

You saw the sentencing attached to it and which can only come out from a criminal suit brought to a court of competent jurisdiction by the state on behalf of the petitioner. Are you ret@rded? Do civil suits end up with a criminal conviction ? See this one! ChiefJusticeFuc: ■ Online defamation falls under criminal libel and is a felony . Besides, Burna's image is tied to his career . For that IPOB lout to open his bucal cavity and spew shit about Burna boy being Puff's fck boi was more than damaging. As Burna rightly stated , he spent 20ys building his career to this point and for one idiot hoping to trend and spew his hate towards him was a call for all out warfare. Tell that idiot to know when to avoid the internet when he is high on something. I so hate hate hate how Nigerians open their mouths — waaahhh —in Ignorance to spew nonsense every chance they get! Defamation can only be ascertained by the court and this after the Plaintiff has filed a suit in the courts against the defendant, not before. Burna has yet to file a case and appear in court regarding this issue. Your courts have yet to prove it is in fact defamation so it is nonsensical to assert that it is definitely that. So all this you are yammering means absolutely nothing! |

But Burna did not sue him— no news of that ever happening even as we speak —, instead, Burna used his status in Nigeria to illegally abduct him. That is the problem here. And I hope people in the U.S.A., and other countries where he goes out to perform are watching cause Burna should not get away with this despicable act. |

voicemail956: Everything na cruise and jokes until hand touch you ... then they will say you are an oppressor because you think you have money and all There's a huge difference between freedom of data and freedom of speech....Nigerian singer and former presidential candidate, Speed Darlington, has been released on bail after his arrest following a petition filed by fellow musician Burna Boy, who accused him of cyberbullying. Darlington, also known for his controversial content, was detained by the police's Intelligence Response Team in Abuja. His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, facilitated stating there was little in the petition to justify the arrest. The case gained attention after Darlington's mother publicly pleaded for his release, accusing Burna Boy and his team of involvement in her son's detention. Nonsense! There is no excuse for the kidnapping/illegal arrest of this boy by Burna Boy. This is a clear case of overstepping one's bounds and abuse of power by the Nigerian Police. You would think Nigerians would be tired of this nonsense at this point but seems people are not ready to be rid of corruption and abuse in that country. |

Seunpapa65: “Seeing your mom on her knees begging me to release you got me emotional. I cherish all the mom’s out there. For over 20 years of life, I worked hard, dropping classics and getting zero attention. Many told me to give up and chase a better career. Many made mockery of me and said music wasn’t my thing. Today after so many years of putting in work, I’m a successful artist and one unfortunate dude somewhere is on the internet, saying abominable things about my career simply because he has a mouth. If not of your mama, you would’ve stayed in jail for the exact number of years I stayed underground as an artiste. Go home to Mommy and sin no more” ~ Burna Boy speaks If this had happened in the United States — and I bet since Burna boy became popular in the U.S.A., he has received similar hate comments from people in the U.S. by the way— would Burna boy have resorted to the same or similar tactics of abusing his privilege as he did against this boy in Nigeria? Would he have attempted to illegally use the U.S.A. police to illegally abduct a U.S. Citizen against the law? This Burna boy chap should be ashamed of himself abeg! His fans in civilized climes — United States, UK, South Africa, etc., —should note here how their star is nothing but a dictator himself. He owes that boy and his mother an apology for his trampling the boy's right to freedom by law. |

Sadly, Nigeria does not have a developed health care system and this is the reason why mental cases such as himself roam free in that country.
