PoliticsRe: Minimum Wage: Let's Pay According To Our Ability - Southern Governors by Kobojunkie: 5:11pm On Jun 27, 2024
naptu2:
9. The Forum discussed the minimum wage issues demanded by labour and unanimously agreed that the minimum wage should be reflective of the cost of living and ability to pay, and each State be allowed to negotiate their minimum wage. This led to the forum’s call for strengthening fiscal federalism and devolution of powers.
Sure, each state should be able to negotiate any value above, not below, the minimum wage. No man or government has the right to pay slave wages to its workers. Any governor unable to pay at least the minimum wage to its workers should be removed from office and the state considered for scrapping. undecided

■ First off to be honest the bill was not well thought out, I mean how can you tax bread and sanitary pads?
■ But it still doesn't remove the fact governance is different from politics and gimmicks , the reality when you enter office will make you take decisions you didn't prepare for ,except you want to deceive yourself and ride the storm Sam way buhari kept paying subsidy with borrowed funds.
LOL.... There are developed countries where taxes are paid on such things. Cut the crap abeg! undecided

■ Obidients used him last year as yardstick for a new Africa as he defeated the incumbent, then placed him on a high pedestal , what they fail to realise is winning an election is 1 thing , governing is totally different as you will meet reality when you resume office of what your country ìs really worth, beautiful speeches won't pay workers salary or loans or balance budget deficit .
The other president in Argentina they used to mock tinubu and apc is struggling seriously.... let them keep deceiving themselves Obi will do differently.
Governing is another thing yet the same Ruto who had all of Kenya believe that the bill was do or die has rejected the same bill. What does that say to you? undecided

In his defence, Edoka said, “The N30,000 minimum wage was a matter of confusion coming from somewhere. We got to know that there was a report made available to the divisional headquarters of the NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
“Kogi state was mentioned amongst states yet to implement the N30,000 minimum wage and as a government of continuity and consolidation, the current Governor is paying the same N30,000 minimum wage across the board to all workers in Kogi state”.
However, Edoka assured that “The issue of hostile relationship between the Kogi state government and Labour unions have become a thing of the past

So, for 42 years after the downgrade, the airport could not at least prove there was meaning to its existence? And now, the current governor wants to, using mago-mago, make you all believe this comatose airport will magically become better than the other 20-something other elephant airport projects of its kind that litter Nigeria today? 😐😐😐😐😐undecided

■ Exactly. That is what the seyi Makinde administration is gunning for and this airport upgrade approval is the icing on the cake. In his first term,He did the road that led to the airport by dualising it. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vanguardngr.com/2023/03/wike-joins-makinde-to-commission-ibadan-airport-road/amp/
Constructed a 500,000 Aviation fuel Tank Farm at the Airport. Before now, planes cannot refuel there. Now they do and more airlines are now plying the Ibadan route. Airpeace and others His plan is to expand the runway after the FG has given the approval. With the runway expansion and the building of a new terminal, it becomes fully an international airport and will take the stress off the Lagos airport
When the runway in Lagos is full, planes are diverted to Ghana. That won't be again. They will be diverted to Ibadan and contribute to the Economy of the State
The last major diversion of planes from Lagos to Ghana happened in 2020, and it was not due to runways being full as you claim but due to bad weather. Ibadan is barely 80 miles from Ibadan meaning weather issues are bound to be similar across both airports. undecided

Additionally, MMIA recently embarked on its expansion projects, so exactly how much traffic does the governor expect would come on average from MMIA to boost the viability of Ibadan Airport which has, for approximately 42 years, existed on life-support? undecided

There are many possibilities for that airport without affecting Ikeja and the one being developed at the Lekki and Ajah (trade zone) axis.
All efforts should be made to ensure that standards are not compromised.

After 40 years of being in business it cannot even pay for the extension of its own runway? Can we please stop enabling waste and start demanding common sense at every point and corner? ■ I have flown into that Airport a couple of times and I can tell you of a fact that it's Runway is horribly short and is a disaster in waiting. The current Minister for Power aircraft over ran that Runway last year. The Airport is overdue for an upgrade at least to allow bigger Aircraft to use the place.
■ Thinking ahead may justify why it should be upgraded to accommodate international flights. Currently Ilorin International Airport which over 400km away is considered as the alternative to Lagos, God forbid emergency at MMA Lagos
1. That airport is over 40 years old and has been living on life support for the entirety of that time; it has never proven itself a viable airport for the state to have. Why should the state sink billions of limited naira into it just so you and a handful of other fliers can fly conveniently at a loss to the taxpayer? huh

2. Thinking ahead when the state has yet to think seriously about even a Water reclamation and treatment plant to ensure clean water is provided to every citizen all across the state and curb the issue of flooding and erosion? Thinking ahead when Oyo state does not even have a basic passenger rail system to help ease serious transportation problems in the state? Thinking ahead all in order that a handful of Oyo indigenes can claim they too have an airport? Come on! undecided

Huh? We are talking here of an airport that is over 40 years in Ibadan and has in all of that time not shown any great prospect ooo! Why in the world would you choose to sink more seriously limited funds into it if it has yet to prove viable in over 4 decades when there are numerous other areas of development needed in the same state that have yet to be addressed? The area of water reclamation and treatment for example. The passenger rail system is another. undecided

I am thrilled to hear that Tinubu has given the goahead for the upgrade of Ibadan Airport to an international status, it will greatly benefit the regions economy and development!
Look around at all the other "international airports" that litter states across the country that are sitting today in terrible shape after millions have been poured down the drain under the guise of attracting investors. And tell me that you have not yet realized that investors are not stupid. A state that barely has an excellent transportation system for goods and ground passengers yet with an international airport is not trying to attract investors but instead trying to build an airport for the corrupt goons in power to steal money with. Oyo should rather invest in a high-speed passenger rail network/system and possibly a good freight train system to move goods from one point in the state to another. Then it would not have to say much to bring local and international investors rushing in. undecided

I doubt international airlines will run Ibadan to Europe or US flights. Ibadan is simply too close to MMIA.
MMIA is also about to expand its runways.
An airport in Lekki Airport is also under planning. That will further squeeze Ibadan airport.
Nigeria doesn't have sufficient travelers to sustain all the international airports, which is ok.
Ibadan might end up doing flights to mecca and stuffs like that. Like Kano
.
That is if the project isn't yet another avenue to see money embezzled in the name of updating a potential elephant project. Ibadan should be channeling any money it gets a hold of now into a high-speed passenger rail system to connect to all parts of the state including Lagos. It should take advantage of the influx of investors into neighboring Lagos in a big way at this point in time. Some of that money is bound to flow Oyo's way if it critically positions itself as a more affordable alternative to Lagos living, industry, and building. undecided

The Airport will serve as alternative to the ever congested Muritala Muhammad Airport. All I can say for now.
How? How can this airport with the many bad roads in the area, serve as an alternative to Muritala Muhammed Airport for Pete's sake? Any more the state gets would be best spent on building a high-speed passenger rail system to transport people from the Lagos airport to Ibadan, from the local airport, and back. No need to waste money that Oyo currently does not have to spend on this, for lack of a better word at this point, white elephant that has yet to prove its worth. undecided

**improving productivity is a major driver as far as attaining food securty in Nigeria is concerned. But to achieve improvement in maize productivity two tenets are important.
(1) Always start with the right seed variety.
(2) You should always adhere to good Agronomic practices.
**"the purpose of this research is to check the yield potential of sc719 under good Agronomic practices
Protect your farm from cattle invasion by planting weeds poisonous to cattle(about 1 meter in width) all around the edge of your farm(length and breath). So many farms have been decimated by cattle in the last couple of years. It is high time farmers begin to more effectively defend their crops and livelihoods. undecided

Another thing you can also do is spread rumours around through even the other farmers that you and other farmers have taken to planting poisonous grass in your farms to help curb the giants called cattle. The rumour may not work immediately but may cause the cattle herders to become wary of farms and growths in your area. undecided

Boycotting their meat altogether is additional way of deterring them from going through your area. They have to go buy to feed their cattle and also to possibly reach your markets. If the demand for the plants are poisonous for their cattle and demand for their meat significantly reduced, they would definitely look for other places to forage and also to sell their meat. undecided
