Nevertheless that same constitution of the Federal Government of Nigeria disapproves of Caretaker Chairman to be appointed. We all know that the Constitution of the FRN supercedes all other constitution and everyone is expected to abide and adhere to it. Can you show where you get this from the Constitution? Why didn't the Ex-LG councilors simply use this to fight the governor directly,of course with the understanding that they foo are required to respect the same Constitution? |

Every Nigerian out there should at this point bow their heads in shame for promoting mediocrity of this kind to the national level. At this point, the populace should be collectively compiling moves to at least turn the man into a sitting duck president so he does not do any worse to the economy than he already has at this point. Chetas81: what about those Nigerian citizen, who love to be slaves to the politicians, this are problem, what you mentioned is what they do in uk thr requirement is to gather signatures from at least half+1 of the voters in your specific electoral area. And yes, it is what people in parliamentary and Democratic communities do, their civic duty. You don't simply say, "oh, he rigged himself into office so it is over," No! You can cast a vote of "no confidence" to have them recalled in that case, something Nigerians ought to be doing a lot of but haven't been doing any of. |

Quest7777: Nigerians can never unite in anything including to protest. Why? Because ONE NIGERIA is a Scam. Why? Because Nigerians owe more allegiance to Ethnicity than to Nationality. Why? Because Nigeria is not a Nation but a forced Geographical Contraption of diverse ethnic Nationalities that are not ready to unite and function as one. ONE NIGERIA remains is a Scam. Nobody including President Tinubu believes in One Nigeria. Everybody is just out to grab from the centre and to satisfy his selfish or sectional interest. The Kenyans protesting are not doing so for a one Kenyan but for the fact that they all do not want to be taxed to death. Stop brandishing this one Nigeria. It is not a good enough excuse because no one region in that country is clean as far as corruption and criminality have become the daily reality. Even if you split Nigeria into 100 parts, I can guarantee you that these same problems will not only equally impact every single partition but will also continue unabated until the people stand to fight it head-on.

Chetas81: ONLY THE NIGERIAN CITIZENS FEAR THE GOVERNMENT DEATHS, NOBODY WANT TO DIE, BUT SUFFERING When it comes to Africa, protests generally don't work at all. So, prescribing protests for Nigeria would solve anything. What I would recommend is instead a move by individual voters to correct the problem through the use of the very same law that the looters once used to rig themselves into power against them. Nigerians can demand these criminal elements be recalled and this can be done from right within their homes... no gathering to protest necessary. The Kenyan kids plan to do exactly that soon, and Nigerians can do so too.

VillagePipu: ■ Why didn't RISIEC also get its funds the same way? ■ Who funds INEC? FG Who is in charge of the FG? What Governors do to the LGs can also be done to the Governors by the FG. INEC is not RISIEC which is instead recognized as a sub constituted at the state level in charge of elections of local government councils in River's state. INEC has its laws and powers defined separately from that of the Federal even though the funds for INEC come directly from the Federal as is the case for the entire government. Can you say the same about RISIEC? |

The ex-LG men were never elected by the people to serve a 3-year term each? I am having a hard time following what you are saying here. man·date /ˈmanˌdāt/ ▶ an official order or commission to do something. ▶ the authority to carry out a policy or course of action, regarded as given by the electorate to a candidate or party that is victorious in an election. |

I made clear that the governor's supposed violation of the constitution/law DOES NOT give any person or groups of people the right to then take power from the people. This is simple! You have a problem with what the governor did, then take it to the appropriate courts, not try to use it as a means to deprive the people of their rights. |

The governor should not be speaking from both sides of their mouth and choosing what suits them. The issue in Rivers State was that the SHAM (State House Assembly Members) preinformed the Governor to conduct LG elections so that transition from one elected LG chairman to another is smooth but the governor chooses to go the old ways of selfish and greedy leaders. Can all the state governors conduct LG elections within 3 months of their swearing in to office rather than put Caretaker Chairmen till 7 years in office and do elections when their governorship administration is coming to an end? The problem here is rather than take the fight to the governor, these ex-LG leaders instead took to trample on the mandate given them by the people to serve for just 3 years. |

VillagePipu: ■ Very good. What then occurs to the LG when an election into the office to be declared vacant has not been conducted because the Governor has refused doing so? If the Government fails to conduct an election, it should in no way embolden any individual or groups of people to take it upon themselves to desecrate the people's mandate. An issue like that should never be used as an excuse to walk all over the mandate handed to them by the people. Officials are elected for a fixed term and that should never be changed by anyone or any group of persons. Whatever problem the Governor creates, that is for the people to get at the governor for that but it by no means gives any man the right to trample on the authority of the poeple. |

politicoNG: Speaking on the political upheaval in Rivers State based on the tenure of local government chairmen, the chairman of the Southern Governors Forum, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, said it was unconstitutional for anybody to extend the tenure of constitutionally elected public servants. He argued that the law is very clear on the tenure of elected officials, and when the tenure expires, there is no need to extend it by whatever means. Speaking against the backdrop of the decision of the Rivers State House of Assembly to extend the tenure of the local government chairmen in the state, but which was refused by Governor Fubara, who then went ahead to appoint caretaker chairmen, Abiodun in an interview with a national television said it would be a dangerous precedent to extend the tenure of local government chairman. It is indeed unlawful for elected officials, elected by the people to serve a specific term, to have their tenure extended for any reason whatsoever. That act is clearly against the mandate of the people. |

WhizdomXX: I"m ready to join a nationwide effort. What Nigerians need is to show power at this point, not more protests. Large protests in Nigeria are known to turn deadly before you say "bull" and they rarely yield any change at the end. Most people simply show up for a day or two and then go back to life as usual. Instead, people, particularly our own Gen Z's(their parents included), in their local zones, can rally together to vote out non-working senators and representatives both at the local and national level. People can sign these petitions right there in their homes and have them delivered to the right offices and go from there.
