Eastcoast33: Bro please ehn, re-explain this in RAW terms to me, i want to grasp the gist too.. i didn't get it the way you just just said it above. THANKS, Shame on APC, SHAME, SHAME, CURSE BE UPON BUHARI, TINUBU AND HIS TEAM! in normal sense the higher the oil price means the price of fuel will go up and the lower the oil price means the price of fuel will go down (ie when the fuel is not subsidized) and during gej administration oil price was above $100 which means the unsubsidized fuel will be sold @N140 but now that the oil price is below $50 the unsubsidized fuel is sold for N145 which must not be so |

same people that kicked against the removal of fuel subsidy in Jonathan government
Former Secretary of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Kano branch, Alhaji Sani Ya'u Babura has described the recent perceived plan by the federal government to remove fuel subsidy as a time bomb that will not yield any positive result to the country's economy. Speaking with Vanguard, Alhaji S. Y. Babura said instead of this purported plan by the federal government in taking the decision of removing fuel subsidy it should focus on reviving Nigeria's refineries as well as concentrate on the Petroleum Industry Bill PIB to enable the down stream sector to function as it is applicable in other countries that supply of petroleum products to it's citizens. According to him, insecurity and abject poverty bedeviling Nigeria's masses are enough catastrophe to Nigerians. He said "The deregulation will only enable the FG to save more money in it's accounts but the masses will suffer, so the plan is a wrong decision especially to the masses". Alhaji Sani Babura who is also an economists stated further that the federal government had no control on the price of petroleum products as it was the marketers that still determined the prices. He said that a liter of fuel in Kano state is sold at a different price in Jigawa, Sokoto and Katsina states because of the distance. He stressed that commodities and other basic needs will be highly expensive as a result of this proposed fuel subsidy removal. He added that those who are in support of the plan are people who do not go to filling stations to purchase fuel with their money or care for the masses. He urged the federal government to think of other ways that will raise revenue in the place of this fuel subsidy as no government should fold it arms and allow it's citizens to suffer from unduly inflation. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/11/removal-of-fuel-subsidy-a-time-bomb-former-ipman-scribe/ |
Politics › IPMAN Commends FG On New Price Of Petrol by kodded(op): 7:47pm On May 11, 2016 |
Abuja - Alhaji Abubakar Maigandi, the Vice
President, Independent Marketers Association of
Nigeria (IPMAN), has commended the Federal
Government on the new pump price of petrol.
Maigandi said on Wednesday in Abuja that the
decision would help to put to an end the persistent
petrol scarcity in the country.
"This is a good development; the best that will
happen is complete removal of the subsidy.
"The price they put is a good one, but the best
thing is to leave the market open so that people will
decide what they want to sell after importation," he
said.
He assured that the products would be available
with this development, adding that the association
was ready to continue to support government’s
effort.
The Petroleum products Pricing Regulatory Agency
(PPPRA) has announced a new pump price of N145
per litre for petrol.
A statement signed by Mrs Sotonye Iyoyo, the
Acting Executive Secretary of PPPRA, said that the
new price would take immediate effect
"In furtherance of its mandate to ensure the efficient
supply and distribution of petroleum products,
PPPRA hereby announces, effective immediately,
that the new price band for PMS shall be at a
maximum of N145 per litre.
“However, NNPC retail stations on the outskirts of
major cities are advised to sell at price lower than
N145 per litre," it said.
The statement said that the review became
imperative in the face of extreme difficulties faced
by petroleum product Importers in sourcing foreign
exchange.
This, it added, had made it difficult to meet the
consumption demand of the nation.
"Importers will henceforth be permitted to source for
their foreign exchange requirements from the
secondary sources.
"PPPRA is conscious of the difficulties that
Nigerians have been going through in the last few
months.
"To ameliorate this situation, we shall continue to
modulate pricing in accordance with prevailing
market dynamics thereby ensuring fair value to all
citizens," it said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/05/ipman-commends-fg-new-price-petrol/ |

Yungkida: Y’all have been lamenting about fuel subsidy up and down, here are some important things you should know about fuel subsidy
Fuel subsidy is the money paid by the Federal Government of Nigeria to reduce the cost of refining petroleum products, especially fuel.
The Federal Government has for sometime now been selling the idea of fuel subsidy removal to Nigerians; making them to understand how immensely beneficial the removal be to all. The Federal Government particularly points that it is aimed at generating additional revenue that will be used to improve the infrastructure in the country such as roads, schools, hospital, etc. However, Nigerians are looking at it differently–as an attempt to exploit their meager resources.
It is interesting to note that states Governors especially from the Peoples Democratic Party have accepted the subsidy removal. In fact, Governor Suswam of Benue State told newsmen in Abuja that “there is no going back on the plan as it is going to be highly beneficial to Nigerians.”
Nigeria is the biggest producer of oil in Africa, yet it is revealing that the same fuel that sells for N65 per liter (with payment of subsidy) in Nigeria goes for just N4 to N5 in Venezuela, the Venezuelan Ambassador to Nigeria, Enrique Fernando Arrundell, explains. Similarly, in Libya, the country condemned recently by many due to Ghaddafi’s undemocratic style of leadership, a liter of fuel goes for just N22.
President Goodluck Jonathan recently pronounced that there is nothing Nigeria can do about the removal of fuel subsidy as all arrangements have been put in place to implement it. He stated that the government has slowed down on the implementation just to carry along stakeholders. He pointed out particularly that those standing against the removal are those planning to bring down his administration.
The above pronouncement by President Jonathan, to me, is highly undemocratic. We are in a dispensation — an era when the masses are supposed to be given a say in governmental affairs, unlike military administration where policies are implemented by decrees and dictates. The decision of the government to remove fuel subsidy maybe a conspiracy by the high-class to have more money to embezzle. State Governors support fuel subsidy removal because it will increase their revenue allocation from the Federal Government
I don’t think the average Nigerian will agree with the removal of fuel subsidy, especially going by past records of our leaders misappropriating funds meant for the development of the nation. In an ideal democracy, the decision of the National Assembly is usually respected since it represents all Nigerians. With respect to our democracy, however, the National Assembly members are literally bought to endorse the subsidy withdrawal.
My candid opinion in this write-up is that since the Federal Government thinks it has reasons to eliminate fuel subsidy, a forum should be created where Nigerians will air their views on the matter. The government can then decide, based on popular views, to cancel or continue oil subsidy.

cc pat077 :

This administration is a scam. In 2012, when fuel was
about 100 dollars per barrel the then govt said fuel will b
sold for 140 naira after subsidy removal. Now, that the
price is around 40 dollars per barrel, how come the price
is now 145 naira per litter after subsidy removal.
