izzou: Let me even help you a little. Vulcanising, Bus conductors, Danfo drivers all fulfill the conditions to your questions... But it seems we just want to get emotional and miss the point from the beginning
The challenge was to channel our energy to alternate models that will be better than driving. What is wrong with that? Or is uber driving the "best job" on earth? Aren't there 1001 jobs that are far more better than this?
I don't know why we all are acting so defensively as if someone touched a nerve.
I have a friend (not on nairaland) that I introduced to uber driving. Recently, he told me he's stopping this December. I asked why. He told me he needs to pursue his career in Procurement and whatever... That the driving isn't giving him time to chase that dream. This is a man with kids that is using it to survive, and doing well probably. What is wrong with his decision?
Stop being emotional sir. The people you're arguing with are drivers too. They won't talk down on something that they used to keep body and soul There’s nothing emotional about my posts. By all means, do whatever works for you. Your friend that’s dropping the hustle entered for the wrong reasons and so has to exit in no time. If the thing fits your plan, then go ahead, if not move on. Don’t come and start saying bla bla bla. You are seeing driving as a side thing that eats up all your time and what not. I ask you what thing pays that doesn’t take time? You want to eat your cake and have it? Uber/bolt pays one of the best hourly rate in the country. So tell me why can’t one take it as a full time hustle? No employer will fault you for putting uber/bolt as an experience on your CV. They’ll only just overlook it if it’s not relevant to them. There are ways you’d construct the CV narrating the JD. Point is if you already have the defeated mindset about anything, then you’ll hardly make headway. |

lin3r2: @Kodred while I understand your frustration, I am of the opinion that you didn't get to read @nitigriti's apology on this matter that you are beginning to make a mountain of. Please I beg you in the name of Jesus to just let this go. It won't make you any less of the man that you are. It is OK to see opinions differently but more mature to understand that opinions will always differ relatively to different people and no amount of arguments can shifts the other's viewpoint. So, please kindly let it go. Thanks in anticipation of your cooperation I’d be doing the society a disservice if I allow the few people I can help roam free ignorantly. It’s part of my civic duties to change the narrative (herd mindset) There are certain ways to drive home points not being ignorant because you’re a COO. Orisirisi |

nitigriti: So you are the person that will teach me to be humble?
When you've bagged pure water in a factory (120 bags an hour), sold gala in traffic, sold apples in traffic, worked as a Danfo bus conductor ... all as a graduate, then come back here and teach me to be humble.
And yes, all of the above were my hustles in the past. I have no chips on my shoulders. Oh wow so you’ve been broken. I really feel for you bro. But it seems your experience didn’t shape you because you obviously failed to learn the lessons from your ‘hardship’. I also won’t be wrong if I assume you’re not finding fulfillment at your present job but just have to make do because you can’t go back to driving ‘taxi’. You need to put your head straight and not give a Bleep! That someone is writing books or descriptions and makes $1k doesn’t mean you’ll also make it. Stop the herd mentality and find something for yourself. Just an advice. |

izzou: I think you guys are not understanding nitigriti
What he's saying is you can't build a career from uber. Uber should be an hustle to make ends meet, and then move on..
The guy you people are quoting had a job before he joined uber. If he wants to apply for another job, can he put uber driving on his cv?
People have built careers from far less. Uber can be anyone’s full time job. People take care of their households from driving. People look at things differently. You need to look for ways to solve problems not be the problem. |

ndubuis: Guy, as a matter of fact, there are CEOs that do Uber outside of Nigeria. People do it for different reasons regardless of their status. You know what? I have a job and do Uber because my job gives me so much time that has been begging to be utilised. I found a way out of boredom doing this and it also puts good money in my pocket. My salary where I work has never been touched for over a year now. By the grace of God, my house would have been completed by next year because my uber hustle is helping save big bucks. So, when you say rise above the level where I will stop worrying about uber", I just don't understand what you mean. Uber makes things happen for me, therefore I get worried when that part of me is being threatened. You got a job and quit uber, some have better jobs and still do uber. That's the difference. Inferiority complex is having a field day with the guy. Just ignore. |

nitigriti: Thank you so much. There's a book I'm reading — It talks about the way Billionaires think. An example is that they think in the long term. They ask, where is this commitment [business] taking me to in 5 years?10 years? If it doesn't make sense in the long term, they don't do it in the short term.
Guys, being an e-hailing driver is not a job. No one builds a career as an e-hailing driver. I did it for 2 years, but I can't place it in my CV. See e-hailing as a means to an end, not as an end in itself.
You guys can rise above the level where you will start worrying about Ocar or Uber or Bolt. The fact that it didn’t work for you doesn’t mean it’s not working for other people here. This statement just shows you also looked down on the hustle and didn’t put your full mind to it hence you couldn’t overcome it and make it work. I’m not taking sides but there are levels to everything. Why can’t the experience be put in the CV? You did it for 2 years and couldn’t add it because it’s not professional ba? I’m sure it was more because you were ashamed than professional. It’s a very valuable experience that exposes you and gauges you on - Integrity - Customer Service - Money Management - Time Management - Patience - Leadership - Social - Networking And so many more. You have to stop being myopic. You want to be the rider using the service because you see it as a prestige instead of a business. Dude drop your shoulders, sit down and be humble. |

northbird: yes, you are right, though somtyms I don't lyk ubers style,
why wud u send me 3km to pick a rider n eventually rider is just going around 3-4km too or just around d street laden wt traffic.
Most of dese apps think only about deir profits n riders( taxify is guilty of this)
Why am I using your app to drive in d first place? Ofcousr, to make 'Profit'.
Sending me all the way to pick someone, I get to d place, rider headed to ICM Ikeja, just across d street, end trip, #375, waited 20mins , no gbagaun. Or sending me to dose those rejected areas n not trying to find a way for me to com out with @ least a trip.
you know how cumbersome ICM is, you HV to park n go n sort deir parking shit @ n all. Driving in traffic. I wait in traffic for ONE good hour, engine firing on all Four cylinders , AC in collaboration, stereo in the background too. And all I get in return is #450 !
For one good hour of deploying resources.
This game is a stopgap.....Seriously. Calm down bro. Uber/Bolt does not select trips it gives to drivers. It works with proximity/customer availability. They (apps) have every right to connect drivers to riders no matter the distance the rider is going even if it’s just to cross over to the opposite side of the road. If you go to any area with low usage of the apps or too many drivers, you’d have difficulty getting a request. Positioning is key Also filter your rides. Ask for destination and if it’s not worth it, simply decline. Don’t be desperate to accept and start cussing later. |

izzou: The last time I drove on Taxify..... If you set a destination, after some minutes, maybe 15 minutes, the app either tells you to go offline or set the destination again, or cancel it. So how can you accumulate hours doing nothing?
And secondly, like I said, even if he isn't driving, he's awake to keep setting destinations. At least, he isn't sleeping
And did you see he did 439 trips last month? An average of 14 trips daily for 30 days?
Okay oh Bro leave story. Taxify(bolt) need to fix their app. It’s too basic. |

izzou: How?
Can you make it very easy to explain? I know 15 hours online doesn't mean 15 hours of driving.
But then it means 15 hours of being awake. So Abeg help me explain Taxify app is bland. Their destination trip feature is terrible. You can accumulate hours without doing anything! |

adsmaster: Guys things are taking a twist. The new car I got that got bashed on the day I collected it for the previous driver(the day I was suppose to go for uber and taxify inspection) These was on Friday, so on Saturday went to panel beater, Monday sprayed it then took it to the office today because the fleet manager asked me to come. He said the owner of the car wants to see the car because of the recent accident complains.i went the guy didn't show up only for the driver I took the car from to call back and said they want to give out for higher purchase 1.5M to be paid for in a year.
That's N31,250 per week the car has not be driven up to a year they bought the car early these year my guy was the first person to drive it, not accidented car, the car is in great shape when he took it.. Even now it is just the two front tire, and the driver side tire hub.
Guys is it a good deal? Naija use 1.5Mto be paid for in a year Not a bad deal. But HP can kill a man sha because you’d be solely responsible for fixing any and everything. Rental is good for you to save some money first though. If you have some money saved or you have a go-to person/people for funds then grab the deal otherwise, don’t be in a haste to own a car. |
