Dsimmer: Iwobi isn't a central midfielder na. I have stated that he's more of a forward. But then again, when Aribo who's a central midfielder was asked to be brought into the central midfield so that Iwobi could move to the attack, there were even more tears.
I learned that Nigeria would be playing against Argentina. Would the midfield be able to handle Argentina's, considering the midfield couldn't handle Cote D'Ivoire? Lol.
Personally, I would go with a 3-man midfield of Tijani, Nwakali and Aribo to see how they would look. Aribo has dominated some good opposition midfield which includes Brazil, so he's got it in his arsenal to do it. Of course Aribo would have to do more to progress the play by constantly passing forward between the lines and switching play to the wings when needed, as well as picking out the runs of the forwards when needed because who's to progress the play if not the midfielders? However, he's got the basic as a complete 8 considering his technique, agility and he's energetic, defensively sound, good ball carrier when needed, offensive and also contributes in the playmaking aspect with his awareness.
Aside the playmaker aspect, another problem that needed to be solved is the holding midfield. I don't know if Samson Tijani would solve it if introduced into the midfield. I haven't seen much of him but I like the fact he's defensively sound and a good passer. He's a smooth tackler for example, good awareness and can read the game the well, added with his technique and passing skill. He actually started as a central back before he got moved to the central midfield as a holding midfielder because of his agility, technique and passing skill. He looked good as a holding midfielder against Inter for example, who are a decent team at least.
As for the 10 role, Nwakali could play the 10 role. I haven't seen much of him just like Tijani but he looks like a good passer. He's not as mobile nor defensively sound but a good passer.
I think the team should be building towards the world cup. So I would go with this.
Nwabali.
Aina - Semi - Ekong -Bassey;
Aribo -Tijani - Nwakali;
Simon/Iwobi - Osimhen - Lookman.
I dunno if Solanke can be lured like Lookman. He's been having a good season. Although Nigeria team has got lot of strikers behind Osimhen such as Boniface, Awoniyi, Iheanacho, Sadiq, Moffi etc. Another is Olise. I don't know if he's been capped tho. There's also the speedy left foot amoo. I don't know if he's been capped. Nigeria has lots of attackers. Problem is the midfield. Lol. This issue of midfield is simple to solve.Remember our goalkeeping issue was like a difficult one but was solved in a week…..if I have my way I will invite Nwakali,Dele Bashiru,Daga,Akinsanmiro and Eletu and let’s see maybe we will not have a balance team. |

lovewins: You guys should relax. Eguavon isn't managing the Super Eagles for the world cup qualifiers. He's more like a stand-in till the position is filled which I believe will be soon. Some don’t understand how NFF operates.When eagles coaching position is vacant the technical director takes over pending employment of a new coach. |

If its Salish Yusuf dem put there, uzoho would have been in goal Salisu Yusuf discovered Stanley Nwabali and it took sports minister appealed to JP that fans are crying over Uzoho…..Stanley Nwabali was a pure recommendation from NFF technical team but kudos to JP for picking him ahead of Uzoho. |

lordofstrings: Midfield problem finally solved😂😂😂 But hope you no go off your TV ooh😂 I watched Chavez vs Arouca which ended 5-1 in favour of Arouca and those goals were scored within the space of 58 minutes,Nwakali got subbed out in 60 minutes and I came to realize that eagles would need more than Nwakali to bring stability to our midfield…I trust local coaches,time to see Daga,Akinsanmiro,Eletu,Bashiru and Nwakali in the folds.These guys just need wildcards invitations and hope to see them doing what Nwabali did to our goalkeeping dept. If midfield issue is not solve we are not going to WC. |

TheGoodJoe: You just like typing my name.
I have never changed my stance. I love the offensive-possessive game to a fault. I believe in it and believe in a long-term strategy. I do not like short wins but like long-term dominance. So, even if we went on to win the AFCON, I won't be impressed because I don't believe it is a long-term approach for dominance. More like luck to win.
I did not talk much because I did not want to spoil the spirit and joy going on. People get happy when they win. I get happy when we play in an offensive style. Win or lose is not my priority but seeing the team grow in play.
Most importantly, it gets the best from the players in the long run.
Finito. Win or lose should be your priority in senior team football though seeing a team play in a very organized way gives joy …sincerely am not impressed with our styles during Afcon and only impressed with Cameroon match.The team need to do more in the midfield. |

That year, if Jona catch you for flank, your name na sorry as a defender. We all knew he was gonna be a pro after school. mostob: PAOK to take action against NFF due to the magnitude of Ekong's injury. Seems the injury is serious more than we think.
For Ekong to play the remaining 5 matches with this same injury...that's patriotism mehn The same Ekong was fizzled out and ready to announce his retirement but Alex Iwobi and Leon Balogun said NO….came back stronger but has to play through pain with a coach who make substitutes on player request sometimes despite having 25 man list. Ekong is out Sanusi is out Aina is struggling Osimhen and Onyeka were used like kilode Saying this now is a taboo cuz the team reached Afcon final. WC qualifiers is going to be tensed so need for Peseiro to manage our players fitness well. |

Mujtahida: Like Goke7 said if Jpes had played subs in place of the regular team and we lost, he would have been blamed to no end with people repeating the mantra that you never change a winning team.
Before Afcon, he set his team up to play as many attackers as possible, he was criticized. He was forced by the situation in CIV to adopt an ultra defensive strategy, he was still criticized.
The truth is that he's damned if he does and still damned if he doesn't.
All I know is that I am grateful to our players for the wonderful effort. Shikena My point here,do we need to play players out of steam to the extent they are ruled out of the season due to injuries when we have players who can do it on the bench.I’m not talking of changing the whole team but forcing two or three players to play can affect the team. JP can do better in this regard next time. |

Marjoribanks: Like who? You just keep attacking JP for no just cause.
Ekong said Paserio gave them identity! I would rather align with the players than hearsay! Iwobi was not outstanding today. He scored a beauty, yes but he lost a lot of balls in vital area and missed some glorious chances. Iwobi left Everton cos he wants to play in midfield. Fulham used him there for few games but decided to push him to the wings. No serious coach would play Iwobi on the wings for Nigeria. JP created a formation that would allow our best players thrive and they did get to the final. A team people like you did not give a chance.
Give JP his derseve dues!
The 1994 team was outplayed by the Ivorians in the semis and Zambia in the finals yet that same team is called the best Nigerian National team ever. Sir Marjori,cuz JP reached the final then I should not say my minds on his tactics. Pls we are here to talk football and not necessarily we should be on the same page. Ekong is out for the rest of the season to justify my earlier comment. Yes a very tactical coach will not forced injured players to play with 25 man squad. JP should understand needs to maximize his full team than forcing players to play through pains. Oh 1994 team,you forgot that it takes a very good team to come from behinds and leveled up,especially in semi and final games,twice against CIV and once against Zambia. Pls go and watch 1994 team matches again to really understand the team Yes I did not believed in the team and does that make unpatriotic.My man it is football we are talking here. |

Our midfielders would have chosen a side pass Odun Baba,if Osimhen no score na for us to blame Napoli players but now he scored na super eagles players Dey do side passes ….Osimhen had chances created for him in Afcon and I want to say off side rules didn’t also help him but one thing is certain Osimhen na goal scorer |

ChrisKels: No disrespect to these players of old but sometimes na nostalgia dey make us rate them or even think they were better talented than our present stars. Omo if you watch videos of some of these guys, you go come dey wonder what the rave was about. Sir,we are talking about 1978 team when Africa had two slots.This team qualified for Montreal 1976 but returned home without participating due to protest against IOC for refusing to sanction New Zealand for touring apartheid South Africa which go against the United Nations rule. My point the team had solid build up from 1975 to 1980,winning Afcon and lost WC ticket on home soil in a painful way,scored own goal.Yes the team would have been a team to remember if they had participated in Olympics,qualified for 1978 WC but good the team won 1980 Afcon to tell you the team was good. Well,comparing them to present generation team,I will not do that but Christian Chuckwu,Muda Lawal,Segun Odegbami and Adokiye Aimesemeaka will shake any generational eagles team. |

For me, our team should be; Nwabali, Maduka and whoever comes top between Arthur and others who are yet to be tested. Yes you are right. |
