he should battle for shirt.

To make any team’s starting 11 doesn’t come on a platter of gold

For me if spurs are serious he should join them, also heard Newcastle and Villa are interested too
With Yves Bissouma, who is much better than him hmmm he could end in up warming bench.

We are saying the same thing but in different tones. What I'm saying is that there's the temptation to dismiss all home grown talent because they are at a disadvantage when it comes to facilities and local coaching. I'm insisting as difficult as it is one shouldn't close ones mind to giving a highly gifted Nigerian based player a chance because who knows if he gets the opportunity to shine he might go on to greater things.

Is there any guarantee it will work out? No, just like everything else in life. I've seen too many diamonds in the rough that have gone to achieve great things in the national team to be cynical of their potential.

Bruv grin you're still on this your revisionism. You know deep down within yourself that from the beginning you never rated Osimhen so I still chuckle every time you use the 'he took my advice' line to save face. Once again to clarify issues for anyone else reading this the reason why Osimhen struggled initially when he got to Europe was because of a combination events including injuries, change in managers, new environment just to mention a few. He was understandably down on confidence and he needed a place that would give him a run of games to build up his form. It wasn't that he was a poor player. The ability was always there he just needed a conducive environment to flourish.

For Iwobi he was already involved in the first team of Arsenal before his invitation plus the fact that Okocha was his uncle certainly didn't harm his chances. To Alex's credit his decent performances in the Gunners first team continued to earn him invites to the SE which he justified.

Excuse but who are the 'better players' that are currently being ignored? Please educate me.
Over the years I've seen a lot of youth players who made it and many who did not . I am right now in Blackburn in the cold and rain watching a game of youth players.

Nigerian players have outstanding athletic ability raw skills and dribbling yes. But game management, football intelligence even the finer technical attributes they struggle. The just have not had the quality coaching required.

When I see a player, l don't use Nigerian based units of measurement but the expected standards that are generally expected in Europe.

You are very correct. AT THAT TIME , I did not rate V.O
he lacked many of the basics and he would not have got into a premier League academy. However, raw athletic ability and blistering pace a big yes.

I repeat I said he needed to step back , reappraise himself, get a football education, learn develop and then move forward AT THAT TIME. My posts were very clear. Thats essentially what he has done.

Now back to the original issues, unfortunately nearly every area of public funded sndbor be directrd activity in Nigeria has gone into REGRESSION.

After 24 years of democracy our electoral system has gone worse not better. The Judiciary is a sham, the legislative a comedy House of dishonourable men and women.

Why then would football be any different.

As a consequence the new breed of top level Nigerian players are going to have their talent devoloped and created in Europe not Nigeria. Whether they are born in Nigeria or Europe is immaterial.

This is the reality.

In the African context especially Nigeria players don't always have the opportunity and exposure like their European counterparts and such you can't 100% apply selection methods in those other countries to how it is here.

A player who everyone in the coaching crew has assessed and believe can offer something to the national team shouldn't always be denied just because of the level they are playing at or club situation.

Sometimes top quality for whatever reason doesn't always translate from club football to national team. Could be structure of the team, attitude of the player, bad karma you name it. That's why a less profile player sometimes fills in the gap.

The Mikel example I gave before prior to 2006 AFCON nobody could guarantee that an inactive clubless player would shine for us a risk that eventually paid off.

Meritocracy will continue to be the standard for choosing players however leeway should be made for one or two exceptional diamonds in the rough where applicable.

At the moment the SE lacks quality GKs, CBs, CMs so it wouldn't harm giving one or two individuals a chance to prove themselves and if they are not good enough we move on.
You brought two contexts into play African and European.

You make a demarcation based on exposure and opportunity not sure exactly what you mean. But that for you is component that divides the two contexts Europe and Africa for you.

It's simplistic for me, remember Biblically speaking 🗣️ whatever a man sows he will reap.

The advantage and benefit of Opportunity comes to those who work hard are diligent and prepared.

Micheal Beale was once assistant manager at Sao Paulo in Brazil. He was coaching the U12 development phase in Liverpool FC academy. He is fully qualified and experienced speaking a number of European languages. That is how important that development phase is considered by clubs.

Arsene Wenger once said that once a player is over 13 it's difficult to inculcate natural skill, technical ability ,first touch and flair.

Nigeria football ⚽ development for me is still stuck back in the 80's . Infrastructure almost zero , coaching development not far off, local league development has regressed.

The world football is not at a standstill but Nigerian football ⚽ is in terms of development gone backwards at worst static at best.

Most premier league and even some Championship football academies. Will train 4/5 times a week 2/3 hour sessions each from age 7/8 with top quality level coaches, they will play games and tournament across Europe even America.

I brought one of my friends to a Premier League academy u12 near 3 hour training session. He was astounded at the level of football intelligence, technical ability, skill , game management, physical fitness, etc.

Jude Bellingham was sponsored by Adidas at 13 , who have a data base of top potential players across Europe and the Americans from age 12. It's done with objective measurement and appraisal by top coaches.

There are certain basic skill sets that your average players coming out of an academy will have. Most Nigerian players will excel in some areas particularly athletic ability sometimes dribbling but have poor football intelligence and game management.

Our local coaches who don't have the same competencies as European coaches cannot produce the same thing with little or no infrastructure as well as coaching acumen.

But you want those limited knowledge local coaches to assess players and set up a team and decide who is best . If you have better players and you can't make them work sack the coach. Our coaches also unfortunately have conflicting interests and agendas.

I have noticed that when players from Nigeria get to top academies they don't hit the ground running they take time to learn and unlearn ( nonsense they have been taught in Nigeria) quite often.

Mikel obi was an exception hit the ground running but most struggle to find thier way and some never do unfortunately.

When V.O. first got to Wolfsburg he was completely out of his depth and at THAT TIME would not have got into any top academy.

I ADVISED he reinvent himself drop to a lower league, learn develop and then move up, when the his football education would be complete. That's exactly what he had done.

Iwobi went straight from Arsenal academy to the SE ,why he already had the football education to compete.

It should be the best players in the best clubs and leagues that should be selected. We are essentially ignoring better players for those who have stayed longer in the SE. In must cases without competition, that is enthroning MEDIOCRITY.

With the quality players we currently have, Isaac Success shouldn’t even be in discussion at all.

Anyone who has been following Isaac’s career trajectory for more than 3 seasons now will know that he has not been at his best at all. I don’t think he has ever been since his days at Watford.

I thought he was going to become what Osimhen became. Unfortunately, life had other plans. It’s either he is injured on not in form.

Whether he will perform in the GWG shirt is what I don’t know. But based on his performance at the club level, we shouldn’t be thinking of him at all. He’s too injury prone and inconsistent to rely on.
Isaac success is history and not 🚫 in the discussion.

Sometimes just because a player is doing well in club competition doesn't necessarily mean it will automatically translate into the national team.

Yes club form is a major determinant for getting into a national team squad but your overall performance for your country will always count for you good or bad.

National teams all over the world stick to tried trusted players irrespective of their current club form and level of competition.

If we become too dogmatic to how players are invited then there's a chance you might miss out on diamonds in the rough. Sunday Mba and Oboabona come to mind. Heck we even took a clubless Mikel Obi to the 2006 AFCON.

Nobody is saying standards shouldn't be maintained but there should be exceptions to the rule especially when it's obvious a player is talented .
Not sure what you mean by talented and ability is always by comparison not isolation.

If you have an outstanding consistent top quality player in the league and it cannot be translated to success. Then there immediately becomes questions about the team management and coach not just the player.

Imagine having Harry Kane and or Lewondoski and they don't score for several games in the national team. You will look more at the team management and coach as opposed to just the player.

The issue of TALENT as you put it, Ishihara not obviously apparent that Boniface is not just talented but consistently outstanding.

Who is therefore more talented and deserving of a national team call 🤙🏿 up ❓

But I have a question and enlightenment, pls what role is Isaac Success playing in Udinese cuz his goal scoring damn too poor and as you said his assist not that top notches but keep on getting games.
So essentially you will pick a not in form player over high scoring outstanding player in higher league and club.

The basis of national team selection is consistent outstanding top performances for club and league in the HERE and NOW.

Not 🚫 past recent glories in the national team.

Teams improve because they pick the most outstanding consistent top 🔝 performing players CURRENTLY.

I will NEVER pick KC over BONIFACE.

Back to the proviso, it's your consistent, outstanding top level performances in club and league that get you selected.

The number of caps is not a unit of measurement for quality, particularly in the Nigerian context. We had a Shehu with how many caps and a finished Echiejile who went to the world cup.

Because Chukwueze has had 30 caps doesn't mean he is better than anybody else.

I remember a Sone Aluko who was a quality player that got only 7 caps over 6 years even when he was in the Premier League.

Is Tella better than Chukwueze is not proven and vice versa until he plays and or gets a run of games. Or is there room for both of them 🤔

Good morning everyone, I don't know if most of you remember me how I was all over nairaland begging for job sometimes last year..

So I gate crashed to this firm around Port Harcourt were I stay, submitted hard copies of my small documents and was called for interview four days letter.it is a bottling a water factory firm owned by one man.
There was no offer letter, we were just sent an SMS to resume work on so and so .

I was asked to resume 7.30 to 6pm on a salary of 25k per month..for the first month, I was paid half with the excuse that company was not going well as per sales, the second month I was not paid atol with two other guys that resumed same time as me but oga was just giving us 300 naira each for TP,we thought he is generous, because we were expecting double Salary by the month end since we didn't get our previous salary.

It got to the third month which is this month, the three of us went to the lady that does HR and complained to her, she said we should take our complaint to the boss.

The next day, the man came to work with a new ride..Lexus saloon car, how did I know it was a new car? He called his friend on phone and we overheard him telling his friend to come to his office and see the new car he got..

Letter that day after work which was Friday, I and the three other guys met him and said we have not been paid for like 3 months sir, the man cuts in and said don't we see how the country is, that if we are tired we should go..

Since Friday I and the two other guys left the work.and still planning on what to do on him.

I know the country is bad, but we should not try to take advantage of job seekers just because you feel they look desperate..

Right now my head is just full..
Unfortunately 😕 this is a very common phenomenon in Nigeria. The rich take from the poor and never give back .

It's mostly the rich 🤑 that owe me money and never payback.

I am bewildered beyond reason how someone can work for 25k a month in Nigeria, Forgive me. How much is transport,i f you buy pure water 💦 every lunch break how much money will you have at the end of the month❓

Going by this logic, would you really say Tella deserves a call-up? He has been largely anonymous this season for Leverkusen and isn't a starter.
I agree in principle yes .

However, he was excellent last season has gone to a club that's top of the Bundesliga. And who changed a winning team.

He is going to have to displace the Dutch international who is cemented in the team Frimpong.

In comparison Chukwueze has also been largely anonymous in AC Milan ,it's quite obvious he has to displace the more versatile Pulisic.

It's possible that Tella is simply not good enough and or the Bundesliga doesn't suit him. Remember the torrid time Ademola had there , he leaves to the Premier League and the rest is history. He is killing it in Seria A currently.

So who is better for the SE for me is open to debate, but until Tella has a few games we will NEVER KNOW.

Chidera Ejuke
Emmanuel Dennis
Kelvin Akpoguma
Mikel Agu
Henry Onyekuru
I can go on and on.

What we saw before their Super Eagles invite was far from what they delivered.

Even someone like Ademola Lookman has stilled not lived up expectations.
I don't bring in sentiments on whether foreign of local born when I assess players. Let us see what Tella can do in the Green and white jerseys, ON AFRICAN PITCHES first before you start any comparison with Chukwueze.
None of these players mentioned above have been consistently outstanding with top level performances for club and league.

So you are essentially agreeing with me.

In addition I could argue, none of them have had a run of games, but it's not a material fact.

Tella had an outstanding last season he is now in a team top of the Bundesliga and not getting any game time or a run of games to create form. In addition he has to displace in form Jeremie Frimpong, who is a Dutch international and maybe 🤔 better.

Chukwueze is in a better position but not necessarily good, he also is not getting much game time too. He has to displace Pulisic, who in my opinion is better ,more versatile with better end product.

So in this regard who is better for the SE is open to debate. In my opinion looking at Chukwueze past performances, he dribbles unnecessarily, poor crosser of the ball and his finishing is very suspect.

None of those issues that plague Chukwueze impact on Tella. I can assure he can cross the ball accurately there are basic requirements from academy football ⚽ more so in the Arsenal academy.

Most of our forwards are starved not getting good crosses. What's the point of having a " headmaster ' like V.O. and nobody can cross the ball with quality 🤔to him.

So it's time for Tella to be tried out and it's not a question of poor African football ⚽ pitches,it's about quality end product, football intelligence and work rate as well as helping the defence.

We have been too long in this game to start jumping in excitement over any player we see in Europe. Club football is different from national team football.

Let Tella come and play on African soil, with his Nigerian team members against African oppositions before we start any comparison between him and Chukwueze.
Give me one example not two .

The basis for national team selection has always been outstanding consistent top level performance in your club and league.

With a proviso for quality of club and league, for instance, a bench warmer in Real Madrid can still be an outstanding player.
