5 million USD pere (only) for the new United States golden visa eligibility rules! That's an increase from 800,000 USD/1 million USD.

This newly raised entry bar will crush some folks but for others, it gonna be easypeasy.

The newest global mantra still remains ”America FIRST!"

A bit of unwarranted information I must say, but I'm not really interested. I expected an insightful response to my comment, at least, on how the black south africans would fare or outperform if the afrikaaners were to leave SA.

Remember the events that followed when the white farmers were ejected from Zimbabwe? The black south africans would not be immuned to same reality IMO.
I'm a man who pays attention to little details before strongly striking out. My original response was based off of what you typed in your initial post which was a bit scanty and didn't contain the specifics you are now talking about. Effective CLARITY in communication is key. You are ONLY just providing more CLARITY in this current reply.

My honest opinion as someone who is well-traveled internationally (with a vast understanding of global geoeconomic and geopolitical dynamics), I don't see White South Africans being fully ejected from SA in the mid-term to long-term like the Zimbabwean situation (where international sanctions got imposed on that country) and the White folks have said it as well that they DON'T want to leave South Africa for the United States in large numbers. If any of them eventually leaves and indeed, there are some who showed interest and made some inquiries on the official U.S. Website portal that deals with immigration into the United States, but they would still have to pay between 800,000 USD and 1 million USD (I'm hearing of a new 5 million USD investors golden visa introduction by Donald Trump which has further raised the entry bar).

In a WORSE case scenario though, if the Zimbabwean experience were to take place in South Africa, then they obviously will run into some agri production inefficiencies from farm gate to the sales outlets in the short-to medium-term. BUT since necessity is the ultimate mother of inventions, the indigenous South Africans will certainly pull through by using green house technologies, aquaponics, hydroponics, improved varieties of seedlings, and more to increase the output of specific crops and livestock which grow favorably in the temperature climate of South Africa.

Enjoy you day.

IBB has written his own denial but we owe posterity to keep the facts for posterity.

Igbo leaders were spared , no single Igbo leader was touched and the primary beneficiary of these tragic and callous murders was Late Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi, also a Nigerian of Igbo extraction who went further to reward his Igbo kith and kin military coup plotters with promotion while non- Igbo Nigerians were grieving and mourning the violent murder of their leaders by the Igbo coup plotters across the nation.
This is no coincidence. The coup was pre-planned and viciously executed to kill the leaders of other regions, decimate and cheat other Nigerians by the Igbo military officers. An obscene and unpatriotic I Before Others(IBO) mentality was perpetuated by the Igbo coup plotters against Non- Igbo Nigerians.

These are the proofs that made people regard the coup as Igbo coup. You can't spin and revise the history. Apologize to the Non- Igbo Nigerians you murdered their leaders violently in the unfortunate coup.

No fair-minded Igbo will be happy if it is the other way. If you are Igbo, just put yourself in the place of Non-Igbo Nigerians whose leaders were violently murdered in their prime by these Igbo military officers. Awful, right?

A good starting point is understanding what ISAs are. ISAs is the umbrella term for your tax free saving allowance of 20k. Its like a tree which then has different subdivisions such as LISA, S&S ISA, Cash ISA e.t.c. I've found this site useful in explaining the whole concept : https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/isa-guide-savings-without-tax/

Now to LISAs - Its a seperate bucket under your ISA where the government tops up your contribution by 25% but this can only be used penalty-free for 2 purposes: buying your first home or at retirement. There is also an exemption if one is terminally ill. Also worth noting that you can't currently use it to buy a house that costs more than 450k - something to consider as you're in London.

First is to decide if you want to save for your home in a LISA or normal ISA or both. To many, filling a LISA first is preferable as you get the 25% rebate. With the money (your deposit + govt rebate) now in a LISA, you then decide what you want to do with it. Do you leave it in cash and get 1- 4% per annum without the risk of loosing money or do you invest it in S&S with potential for much higher returns but risk of losing some capital. If investing, the next question is do you buy individual companies (st0cks) or do you buy a basket comparising a large amount of companies (i.e fvnds). Fvnds which are my preference, if well chosen are cheaper, little hassle and historically return 7-10% pa. There's the risk you may lose some money when investing but if you your time frame is long enough (3-5 yrs and above), you would likely come out much better when invested properly. The risk is actually holding cash. Remember guaranteed interest on cash would struggle to match inflation and is unlikely to keep up with house prices.
When deciding on whether to go with solo st0cks or buy a collection, I've found this short video series quite good in explaining the concept.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gM4KEJQ_Z5U

I'd give an example (pictured)- after buying my place, I decided to continue investing in my LISA for retirement purposes. This time I went with S&S against cash. Its maxed out for the financial year and invested for under 8 months in the named fvnd. Returns so far (aside government rebate) is over 9%. Granted the last 2 years have been exceptionally good for markets but it'd take 3 years for same amount in cash to bring same return if the interest rate was 3%. I say 3% cos though you might get higher now, rates are likely to fall as BOE drops rates. Interest rates on cash were 1% is not too long ago. While saving for my place, I used a cash ISA+ LISA but with what I know now, I'd save in S&S if I'm doing it again.
Thesame concept largely also applies to how pension investments are made. Just like ISAs, they are all called tax-free wrappers. It's what you do with money inside the wrapper that matters.
Insightful.

Saved.
PoliticsRe: Made-in-Nigeria helicopter set to fly soon – NASENI by Konquest: 4:14am On Feb 28, 2025
Morbeta11:
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has announced that the first Made-in-Nigeria helicopter is nearing completion and will soon take its maiden flight.

Speaking at a Focus Group Engagement in Kaduna, Engr. Kareem Aduagba, Project Manager at NASENI’s Aeronautics and Air Vehicle Development Institute, confirmed that significant progress had been made on the indigenous helicopter, which would soon be officially recognized as the “Nigerian Chopper.”

The engagement session, organized by NASENI, brought together inventors, manufacturers, government officials, industry leaders, and academics to promote local innovation and discuss policies that will drive Nigeria’s industrial and technological advancement.

“What we are doing now is not reinventing the wheel. We have one of our projects that started from the ground up, including the Made-in-Nigeria helicopter and some Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs),” Aduagba explained.

“Additionally, we have acquired some aircraft components from developed countries in Semi Knock Down (SKD) and Complete Knock Down (CKD) forms. Using scientific and engineering expertise, we are working on assembling and modifying them.

“Very soon, we will conduct the first test flight of the Made-in-Nigeria helicopter as we approach the final stages of development,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, Engr. Abdulfatai Ambali, Head of the Manufacturing Services Department at NASENI’s Hydraulic Equipment Development Institute, Kano, emphasized the agency’s renewed commitment to commercialization, collaboration, and innovation under its current leadership.

“Many Nigerians are unaware of NASENI’s contributions, but with the leadership of the Executive Vice Chairman, Khalil Suleman Halilu, we are prioritizing awareness, stakeholder engagement, and community impact.

“Our goal is to develop homegrown technology that reduces Nigeria’s reliance on foreign products. Many of our innovations are already being deployed across various sectors,” Ambali stated.

Facilitator of the program, Saleh Kwaru, urged Nigerians to support local industries, stressing that national development depends on patronizing homegrown products.

“We must look inward and leverage our resources. Constant reliance on foreign products weakens our economy,” he noted.

Similarly, Yusuf Suleman, Acting Zonal Coordinator for the North West Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), commended the event for tackling challenges affecting locally made products, such as quality and finishing.

“Innovation and modern technology are key to improving the acceptance of Nigerian products. This kind of engagement will help solve production challenges and create more job opportunities.

“SMEDAN and NASENI share common goals, including marketing, technological advancement, and job creation, ensuring sustainable industrial growth,” Suleman added.

My Simple point I an ethnic coloration doesn't not mean it is ethnic motivated. Dora said what she said which is facts.

Also many credible and authoritative people have come out to say the coup was NOT an Igbo coup and that is FACT but bigots won't let it rest.

I do not care what IBB said infact many yorubas have labelled him a serial liar so his point or position is indifferent.

Bottom line Coloration doesn't mean fact.
@Jaxxy, I'm certain now that I remember seeing your moniker and post last year claiming that you grew up and live in Lagos State, so, I expected you to have a more rational and balanced view. I responded to you because you did NOT overtly use insults here BUT you are CLEARLY "deflecting" and "minimizing" grave historical events and you are clearly rambling on in your post here.

You said in your post that "bigots won't let it rest." YOU MUST realize that it's young Igbo bigots and Ipob troll farms with links to the despicable ipob idealogy that have relentlessly triggering the massive anger from other ethnic groups based on the deliberate disinformation and historical revisionism they are spewing out! They are CLEARLY the trouble makers here.

As I type this, there are defamatory and totally FALSE YouTube videos and online posts deliberately created by Igbo bigots claiming that the January 15, 1966 coup was an "Awolowo coup" meanwhile it was an Igbo-dominated coup consistening of about 95% Igbo officers who then hijacked it and KILLED the political and military leaders of the Northern Region, Western Region, and Mid-West Region. Unknown to a lot of young Igbos pushing this criminal narrative around, the legal luminary, Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, GCFR, SAN, was imprisoned in 1963 for 10 years on trumped up charges of treason and plotting a change in government which was totally FALSE. It was in on becoming the Head-of-State of Nigeria in 1966 that General Yakubu Gowon immediately released Chief Awolowo and 16 other WRONGLY jailed Action Group Party members: [such as the recently deceased Afenifere factional leader and lawyer, Chief Ayo Adebanjo that Igbos are hailing today for supporting LP, and Chief Anthony Enahoro who moved the motion for Nigeria's independence and more]. So, it's totally stupid for any ipob supporter and member to deliberately FALSIFY videos and say that an innocent man who (unknown to them) was locked up in a maximum prison in the Eastern Region planned OR plotted the January 15, 1966 coup. That's one of the WORSE lies to ever tell. Although Major Nzeogwu gave the release of Awolowo and others from prison as one of his groups reasons for the coup, the prison release was NEVER carried out NOT even under the military goverment of Aguiyi Ironsi who took over power attempt to release the innocent Action Group Party top politicians. This is what General Yakubu Gowon immediately did that Aguiyi Ironsi did NOT do for the 6 months he was the military Head-of-State. The whole planned release of Awolowo and co by Major Nzeogwu and others was a simply a RUSE or SMOKE SCREEN to draw the sympathy of the few non-igbo collaborators in the coup such as the naive Major Adewale Ademoyega, and hence draw public sympathy meanwhile the coup that was originally planned to be "nationalistic" had been hijacked by the "Igbo-dominated" coup plotters.

On one hand, you and some others are openly making FALSE claims that Ibrahim Babangida confirmed in his book that the misguided January 15, 1966 coup (which was hijacked by the Igbo-dominated officers who constituted about 95% of the coup plotters) was "not" an "Igbo-coup", yet on another hand, you are CONTRADICTING yourself and saying in your last post (which I'm quoting here) that: I do not care what IBB said infact many yorubas have labelled him "a serial liar" so his point or position is indifferent.
One moment you are "positively referencing" Ibrahim Babangida then in one breath you are condemning him by saying he is a serial liar!

EFFECTIVE CLARITY in communication is very import and you have completely lost the plot here. Who are the so-called "credible and authoritative" people you are talking about? They will literally be torn to shreds when confronted with ALL the EVIDENCE and sources I directly listed here.

You CLEARLY have NO points here and some of the younger generation of Igbo bigots influenced by ipob online forgeries and propaganda are creating more enemies for yourselves with the forgeries you are helping to spread which is clearly a security risk. Go online and you'll see vivid videos of how highly irresponsible and semi-literate Igbo ipob members are openly threatening Nigerians of other ethnic groups from Bini-Edo, Esan-Edo, Urhobos, Isoko, Efik, Ibibio, Ijaw, Igala, Ikwerre, Benue, etc, with toxic hate speech, disinformation and forgeries on their ancestral histories. This has led to several angry reaction videos from Nigerians from these ethnic groups listed above living over there in Nigeria and in the Diaspora warning the Igbos against attempts to annex their ancestral homelands into a so-called biafra. The Igbos are clearly the aggressors here for attacking other Nigerian ethnic groups and have implicated themselves with those highly toxic threat videos they are making... Are some of you Igbos the ONLY people in that country called Nigeria, thereby endangering the lives of innocent Igbo people who just want to live their lives peacefully?

My stance here are ONLY to ensure that the sanctity of historical events remain as "pristine" as possible. Period.

I will not revisit this thread again (unless there is another grave disinformation posted here by anybody). So we'll let it rest.

Indeed many people even b4 IBB regardless of what he said in his book have said it was not an igbo coup but bigots find that hard to believe. I understand.
@jaxxy

I do NOT have the time for mind games here. Read the direct quote excerpt from Dora Akunyili back from the 2000s right BELOW:

“There were a lot of fights from the political class, they didn’t want him to give me the job because the Minister of Health was Igbo. I am Igbo and MOST of the drug counterfeiters are Igbos,” Akunyili said. “Remember, I am also a woman. But Obasanjo stood his ground and said, ‘No, this is the woman that will do the job’.”

"I AM Igbo and MOST of the drug counterfeiters are IGBOS,” Akunyili said.
=>https://neusroom.com/how-12000-pounds-earned-dora-akunyili-nafdac-dg-job/

As seen in the excerpt directly ABOVE in the "Neusroom" publication, "The Guardian" newspaper of the UK and more, Dora Akunyili herself widely confirmed in the Nigerian and international electronic and print mass media when she was the NAFDAC DG from back in 2001 that some of her own Igbo people are the ones MOSTLY behind the importation, production and sales of FAKE, EXPIRED and COUNTERFEIT drugs! Let it sink in here... These FACTS are also known from well-documented crime statistics available to me from over 35 years now.

Dora Akunyili (the bold Anambra-born administrator said her sister, Vivian died in 1988 due to fake, counterfeit drugs hence her strong passion) was very blunt and outspoken about her condemnation of these criminals of Igbo origin who used mainly Anambra State, Aba, Idumota, etc, as locations to distribute these FAKE, EXPIRED and COUNTERFEIT drugs with NO genuine NAFDAC numbers to other parts or cities of Nigeria and West Africa thereby causing kidney failures and death with unsuspecting buyers picking them up. In December 2023, these criminals tried to kill Dora Akunyili while being driven in her car in Anambra State but the bullet miraculously grazed her scalp from the back wind screen of her car.

Second, again, contrary to your repeat claims, the infamous Ibrahim Babangida NEVER wrote in his book that the January 15, 1966 coup is NOT an Igbo coup. You obviously haven't read that book and you are deflecting by twisting his written words here despite the CLEAR book excerpts and FACTS that I gave you earlier yesterday on this page.

Again, there is absolutely NOWHERE in IBB’s book where he said that the coup of January 15, 1966, was NOT an Igbo coup. Despite corrections made for you folks, you are still living in bloody denial of well -documented historical facts.

In fact, he alluded to the contrary in the book excerpt right BELOW, when he said the coup had taken on an ‘unmistakable ethnic coloration. (Meaning the coup which was supposed to be nationalistic was hijacked by "OUTSIDERS" OR Igbo officers). IBB was simply being diplomatic or charitable in NOT using harsher words than he did in his book on those Igbo-dominated coup plotters).

He (Ibrahim Babangida) wrote BELOW:

"It was heinously callous for Nzeogwu to have murdered Sir Ahmadu Bello and his wife, Hafsatu, because not only were they eminently adored by many but also because they were said NOT to have put up a fight. From that moment the putsch was infiltrated by "OUTSIDERS" to its supposed ORIGINAL intention and it took on an unmistakable ethnic coloration COMPOUNDED by the fact that there were NO related coup activities in the Eastern Region"- President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, 'A Journey In Service: An Autobiography', February 2025.

Therefore, the infamous Ibrahim Babangida NEVER said anywhere in that book with the quote ABOVE that the highly irresponsible January 15, 1966 coup led by a majority gang of about 95% Igbo officers wasn't an "Igbo coup." IBB infact took a swipe at Nzeogwu among others for the brutal gunning down and kiliing of Sir. Ahmadu Bello and his wife. It's obvious you haven't read the full book in hard OR soft copy and so are still using propaganda information as a basis for you current post here.

Third, the FACT that many Igbos were killed in the public revenge attacks in many cities in the far Northern Region (including parts of the Middle Belt section of the Old Northern Region) after the irresponsible January 15, 1966 coup is another historical EVIDENCE that the coup which was carried out by about 95% of Igbo-dominated officers who then proceeded to brutally kill ONLY Northern, Western, and Mid-West Region senior political and military leaders was SEEN by a large number of Nigerians in 1966 and beyond as an "Igbo-dominated" OR Igbo coup! Is this too difficult for you to understand? Why were people from other ethnic groups living in the Northern Region NOT killed like the Igbos were singled out and unfortunately killed in revenge for the death of several Northern military and political leaders in the January 15, 1966 coup?

Listen... You are talking to a historically well-informed older man here NOT a young person. I don't tolerate rubbish and I hate it when insidious people oppress the less privileged in the society and tell deliberately forged blatant LIES against others. That January 15, 1966 coup was originally planned as a nationalistic coup as confirmed by Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu and Major Adewale Ademoyega (who was naive and deceived into getting involved) BUT it ended up as an "Igbo-dominated coup" that got hijacked by some Igbo officers just like the Okpanam, Delta State-born Chukwuma Nzeogwu finally confessed in an interview he granted before he died that the TRIBALISM from some Igbo officers from the East of River Niger led to the selective killings of ONLY non-Igbo political and military leaders from other regions of Nigeria (leaving out leaders of the defunct Eastern Region). This is what Ibrahim Babangida stated in his book excerpt that I posted ABOVE for you to read, and the discrepancies in the vicious January 15, 1966 killings of the political and military leaders of the 3 other Nigerian regions [of the Northern Region, Western Region, Mid-West Region] was as CLEAR as day light for ALL Nigerians, the international diplomatic community, and the international mass media who covered the events to see! Period.

Many of us have direct and distant family members who were brutally KILLED in that highly irresponsible January 15, 1966 coup and it becomes highly irresponsible and disrespectful for some younger people of Igbo origin to deliberately engage in forgeries while twisting the historical documented FACTS in FAKE YouTube videos and other online platforms and engaging in criminal historical revisionism. That will NEVER be tolerated.

I will end my convo here and now.

Drama as Flight Captain gives his pre-flight announcement in Igbo language. Passengers on board were excited while some had mixed feelings.
Nothing wrong if the Air Peace flight took off from one of the South Eastern States of Nigeria while heading towards the FCT. The Igala language can also be spoken by the Flight Captain if he chooses to (since Igalas too are indigenous to both states) if the flight took off from either Enugu or Anambra States.

What I detest MOST is that a large part of the editing of this video is amateurishly doctored and the supposed "drama and mixed feelings" of the passengers wasn't captured. Rambling of a demonic Yoruba man.

How does the above rubbish clear the fact that Fajuiyi was killed because all evidence pointed to the fact that he trained the boys involved in the coup and supported the coup?

How does it disprove the fact that your wicked Yoruba people invented a lie to try and cover Fajuiyi role in the coup so as to cover your loose end?

How does it change the fact that all that were killed were all Awolowo enemies, none were his friends.

How does it change the fact that Awolowo was imprisoned because he committed an act of treasonable felony which lends credence to the fact that he was more than capable of attempting to pull of a coup?
IBB being present at Awolowo funeral and eulogizing him means nothing, he was probably relieved the chronic power hungry man is dead.
Even Nigeria gave Nzeogwu befitting burial.

When will you wicked ones that have ruined Nigeria stop with the lies and bigotry, have you not done enough?

You invented an Igbo coup lie, hijacked Nigerian economy through Indigenization policy, ran all the foreign companies you stole down to bankruptcy through your financial incompetence and plunged the economy into recession.

You have repeated that same feat since 2015 just when it looked like Nigeria was finally getting to recover under Igbo financial prudence touch from 1999 to 2015. You ran an Igbophobic agenda against GEJ, invented lies and lies against the man, ousted him. And just like in 1967,
you have ran the country back to recession and shit hole! While still inventing and propagating your usual Igbophobia!

How can a people be this vile?
YOU will NOT be allowed to continue to use this Website to spread toxic hate speech and gross disinformation against other Nigerian ethnic groups anymore. What you and your ilk are doing here, deliberately distorting long-established Nigerian history are officially frowned upon on NL and completely violates the major rules of Nairaland.

Nairaland was founded as an international discussion forum or Website by @Seun in 2005, (who is incidentally of Yoruba descent) in 2005 and this Website is NOT an ipob Igbo website where you can think you can use to concoct and deliberately spread volatile disinformation, and toxic hate speech. It will NEVER be tolerated!

I'm ONLY gonna respond to this post, so that the younger, uniformed readers are NOT deceived by the deliberate disinformation in all your warped posts here. Ordinarily, you do NOT deserve a response after being hit by the CLEAR FACTS in my earlier post debunking those criminal claims, only for you to resort to deflecting and bringing up totally unrelated vile topics and toxic hate speech here.

EVERYTHING you condescendingly wrote ABOVE about the Ado-Ekiti indigene, the late Lt. Colonel Francis Adekunle Fajuyi, MC, BEM, and Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, GCFR, SAN are purely figments of your "warped imagination" and will NOT be tolerated.

Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo attended the elite and prestigious "London School of Economics and Political Science" as a law graduate, eventually becoming a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and he was given the GCFR title as an octogenarian to show his distinct nationalistic service to Nigeria over several decades by former President Shehu Shagari (thereby making him the ONLY man in Nigerian history who never became a Nigerian President) to be given the GCFR award.

If Obafemi Awolowo truly committed treason or was a coup plotter along with the other 16 innocent Action Group Party officials such as Chief Ayo Adebanjo (He was a lawyer and the recently deceased Afenifere factional leader), and Chief Anthony Enahoro (A professional journalist and the FIRST EVER Nigerian to move the motion for Nigeria's independence from Britain) to name a few of those who were framed up by the then sitting NPC/NCNC alliance government and wrongly jailed for "treason" in 1963, BUT wisely released immediately by General Yakubu Gowon when he became Head-of-State in 1966, Obafemi Awolowo would NOT have been given the highest GCFR title years later.

The internet has NEVER been anonymous and it was right on this same NL Website that the digital footprints of that criminal and international fraudster who posed as a legit millionaire entrepreneur called Obinwane Okeke (the so-called invictus obi) who stole millions of USD from American businesses, were detected by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States, and this led to Obinwane Okeke's arrest along with his criminal gang in 2019 by the FBI right in the United States while he was trying to escape to Nigeria in order to evade justice.

Quite a long epistle but let me summarise it into the recent NAFDAC Raid which seem to have unmistakable taken an ethnic coloration but its definitely not an ethnic Raid or is it? undecided undecided undecided
It's NOT an "epistle" but based on CLEAR historical FACTS right from 1966.

The NAFDAC sting operation was carried out by over 1000 Nigerian law enforcement agents as CLEARLY indicated in the video report BELOW and it took 1 year of covert operations to plan in order to bring these criminal gangs pretending to be legitimate traders and millionaires to justice, while selling and distributing harmful FAKE drugs (that destroy the kidneys and society over there in Nigeria and West Africa) while operating from Anambra, Aba and Idumota.

The sting operation with 1000 Nigerian security operatives was planned in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser in Nigeria (Nuhu Ribadu) so it had a nationalistic collaboration NOT an "ethnic coloration" contrary to what you stated. This is exactly what the gallant Dora Akunyili stood against. The MAJORLY Anambra-based Igbo counterfeit drugs gangs even tried to kill her on some occasions FINALLY firing a bullet into her car as she was being driven into Anambra State back in the 2000s, with one of the bullets grazing her scalp and injuring her! If the bullet flight path and velocity had come a bit lower, her head and brains would have been blown out from the back wind shield because she sat at the back when the bullets struck. Some of those involved got arrested eventually and were charged to court. That's how vicious those criminal elements are and just like NAFDAC and NDLEA have separately proposed, the death penalty has to be introduced and ENFORCED for these crimes and more to be minimized and eradicated just like it's being done in Singapore, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, etc.

He noted that apart from the release of the concrete polling figures of the watershed 1993 presidential election, the major take away from the controversial memoir is IBB’s clarification on the 1966 coup.

“Some of us have always known that the naming of the January 1966 bloody putsch as Igbo coup was the deliberate orchaestration of the United Kingdom Government using the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and Lagos/Ibadan axis of domestic media.

“Britain resolved to sow the seed of long term political animosity between Igbo and Yoruba, as well as set Igbo up for national vilification, demonization and hatred. And, to my mind, this long-term plot by the British, started with the ignition of open battle between Chiefs Obafemi Awolowo and Samuel Ladoke Akintola, which snowballed into the 1966 coup.

“From branding the coup as Igbo, through the counter coup, the genocide, the breakdown of Aburi accord, and deceiving Ojukwu into secession by the same British, all provided a golden opportunity to destroy Ndigbo, Igbo land and the Eastern Nigeria emergent and thriving economy,” he remarked.

Obidigbo maintained that with the benefit of hindsight, nobody or group would explain in whose interest the war was fought, regretting that no Yoruba, Igbo, Ijaw, Biron, Jukun, Hausa or even Itsekiri can point to any benefit from the war.

Obidigbo, who said he was yet to read in full Babangida’s memoir, said it would have been proper for the retired General to explain the circumstances that surrounded the 1992 Military Plane crash at Ejigbo, Lagos State and what he knew about the murder of Dele Giwa, so that Nigeria’s healing process could begin in earnest.

This is another delusional opinion of a so-called "elder statesman." His cherry-picking and wild inferences about Britain, the BBC, and the Nigerian media are largely off the historical trail.

Right ABOVE in the original article, Obidigbo himself said he HASN'T fully read about that IBB's book and yet he is cherry-picking words that suit him and making wild inferences from the same book he claims he hasn't fully read. Some people just like to bury themselves in shameless historical revisionism denials until they get completely crushed by the weight of TRUTH and get totally forgotten in the sands of time.

IBB isn't the first to say it wasn't an Igbo coup. Don't know why bigots are crying over IBB'S book. undecided
There is absolutely NOWHERE in IBB’s book where he said that the coup of January 15, 1966, was NOT an Igbo coup.

He (Ibrahim Babangida) wrote:

So, the infamous Ibrahim Babangida NEVER said anywhere in that book that the highly irresponsible January 15, 1966 coup led by a majority gang of about 95% Igbo officers wasn't an "Igbo coup." IBB infact took a swipe at Nzeogwu among others for the brutal gunning down and kiliing of Sir. Ahmadu Bello and his wife. It's obvious you haven't read the full book in hard OR soft copy and so are still using propaganda information as a basis for you current post here.

Many folks have moved on since January 1966 right into the Civil War of 30-months 1967 and 1970. Many Nigerians have tried to relate with Igbos since then to such an extent that a mere 9 years after the Nigerian Civil War ended, Alex Ekwueme became the Vice President of Nigeria. There's NOTHING wrong in accepting these FACTS of history BUT the irritating denials and forgeries by a section of younger Igbos claiming falsely that the January 1966 coup wasn't "Igbo-dominated" OR an "Igbo coup" (after it got hijacked by a section of Igbo coup plotters) is highly criminal and dishonorable to the memories of those who were gruesomely assassinated and their larger families. This act of historical fabrications will ONLY fuel anger towards these group of Igbos for being liars and openly deceitful.

The Ethnic Profiles of the Killer Officers and Military Logistics of the January 15, 1966 Coup Assassinations:

1] Ifeajuna led the Lagos faction that went to Sir. Tafawa Balewa’s residence… He is Igbo-speaking

2] Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu led the Northern faction that killed Sir. Ahmadu Bello and his wife in Kaduna … He is Igbo-speaking

3] Nwobosi led the faction that went to Ibadan and killed Aare Samuel Ladoke Akintola… He is Igbo-speaking.

4] Timothy Onwuatuegwu led the faction that went to Ademulegun’s house and killed him and his pregnant wife... He is Igbo.

5] Timothy Onwuatuegwu again led the faction that went to Ralph Sodeinde’s house in Kaduna... He is Igbo.

6] Ezedigbo led the faction that went to the Itsekiri leader Okotie- Eboh’s house and killed him… He is Igbo

7] Chris Anuforo led the faction that went to Col. Kur Mohammed’s house… He is Igbo

8] Donatus Okafor led the faction that went to Maimalari’s house... He is Igbo.

9] Lt. Oguchi was sent to the East to kill the Eastern Region Premier Sam Okpara… He spared his life… He was Igbo.

As can be seen from ALL the evidence right ABOVE EVERYONE (from the former Northern, Western and Mid-West Regions) who got brutally killed by gunfires in the highly irresponsible January 15, 1966 coup were killed by Igbo-speaking officers.

Martial law over the NORTHERN provinces of Nigeria. Suspension of constitution. Ten proclamations in the extraordinary orders of the coup, but nothing suggesting Awolowo's release, neither was he ever released by the coupists, but revisionists are telling us otherwise.
Looting, arson, rape, homosexaulity punished by death sentences
Demostrations punishable in grave mannner up to death.
Shouting of slogans punished by incaceration or more.
doubtful loyalty of sitting on the fence punished.

These are the things the young generations don't think of when they shout for military because some mediocre candidate lost an election.

People argue that the ENDSARS movement started off as nationalistic, but it clearly came off in one way.
People argue that the Obident movement started off as nationalistic, but it clearly came off in one way.

We refuse to be fooled or gaslighted.
That January 15, 1966 coup was indeed most irresponsible. Though originally planned as a nationalist coup initially, it soon got hijacked by a section of Igbo officers amounting to about 95% of the coup plotters who them proceeded to brutally KILL many of the selected political and military leaders from the Northern Region, Western Region and Mid-West Region of Nigeria and WITHOUT any form of coup activity in the Eastern Region or killing of Michael Okpara. This off course led to the unfortunate massive reprisal killings against the Igbos in the Northern Region cities due to the perception of the overwhelming "Igbo-dominated coup" OR what became known as an "Igbo coup."
PoliticsRe: How Babangida Converted Maryam To Islam by Konquest:

The real issue with the 1966 coup is the relentless Yoruba attempt to rewrite history, branding it an "Igbo coup" despite clear records showing that 50% of the participants were Yoruba. Had the coup succeeded, we’d never hear the end of how the Yoruba played a crucial role in toppling the First Republic’s government.
I have to step in to correct your highly dishonest, relentless disinformation and "blame game" against Yoruba folks when infact that phrase "Igbo coup" evolved right from the January 15,1966 coup period because about 95% of the officers who took part and brutally gunned down the political and military leaders of the 3 others regions (of the Northern, Western and Mid-West Regions, leaving out the Eastern Region leaders alive) were Igbos OR Igbo-speaking officers.

You are totally WRONG here and don't seem to want to learn the FACTS of history. It will serve you well to desist from selective amnesia and historical denial.

That highly irresponsible coup of January 15, 1966 has ALWAYS been refered to by many people in different regions of Nigeria since 1966 as an "Igbo-dominated coup" OR Igbo coup because about 95% of those who took part in that coup were Igbo-speaking officers.

I will hit you harder so that you will WAKE up from your childish denials, LIES and attempts to pin this "Igbo coup" phrase on the Yorubas. Even one Obidigbo was carelessness blaming the British and others for that "Igbo coup" phrase when infact as of 1966, many people acknowledged that Igbos played an overwhelming role in the assassinations of political and military leaders of the 3 other regions while sparing their kinsmen in the Eastern Region.

1] Now, it's simply because that January 15,1966 coup was seen nationwide by many Nigerians as a 95% Igbo officers-led "Igbo-dominated" OR "Igbo coup" that the deadly public REPRISAL attacks and riots in 1966 by Northerners on mainly Igbos in different cities and towns of the Northern Region took place.

2] Second, after those series of killings of mainly Igbo civilians in the Northern Region because of allegations against Igbos of public insults, tauntings and so many reasons including the January 15, 1966 coup which led to the brutal KILLINGS of several Northern politicians and military leaders (plus those from the Western Region and Mid-West Region), with gunshots fired at ALL of them by ONLY Igbo officers, the 1966 Nigerian counter-coup from July 28,1966 - August 1,1966 took pkace. That counter-coup from July 28, 1966 to August 1, 1966 featured General Murtala Muhammed, Theophilus Danjuma and several far-Northern, and Middle Belt Nigerian military officers who had lost kinsmen in the brutal January 15, 1966 coup, and had a devastating effect of its own with LARGELY Igbo-speaking officers and soldiers losing their lives.

Aside from that, folks such as Chief Harold Dappa-Biriye who is the late father of modern Ijaw nationalism from the Niger Delta ALSO CLEARLY gave an interview in 1998 also took a swipe at the coup plotters who he called "school boys" said were sent by their leaders to carry out that coup thereby leading to Aguiyi Ironsi coming into power which then sent shivers of Igbo domination down the spines of especially the Niger Delta people and the Northern Region because of Aguiyi Ironsi's Unification Decree 32 of 1966 which led to Aguiyi Ironsi relocating Igbos immediately into the Civil Service to automatically occupy Civil Service positions in the Northern Region, Niger Delta areas, the Western Region. Dappa-Biriye who hailed from Bonny Island in Rivers State said the whole of Nigeria was apprehensive about Igbos domination in the light of the January 1966 coup and subsequent events leading right into the Nigerian Civil War of July 1967 to January 1970.

I went further to ask her why she did that and she told me she watched it on a movie. Probing what she would do with those videos, she said she would use it to blow bigger on social media.

I thought she lied and decided to ask her to send 5 of those videos to me on WhatsApp which she accepted. She said "comrade, I have over 60 videos but I will send you 17 of them. The only one I deleted was the first guy who bought me the phone.

She sent the videos to me on a "once view". Sharp boy like me, I got them saved one way or the other but my greatest surprise was seeing a popular church deacon whom I know very well.

I will have a conversation with her tomorrow.

keep writing long epistle but it won’t change the fact that the coup was not an Igbo coup, Yorubas make una rest small, why do you guys carry this matter for head like gala. Spit
People from all over Nigeria (Old Northern, Old Westy, Old Mid-Western, parts of Old Eastern Regions) know full well since 1966 that the events of January 15, 1966 coup turned into an Igbo coup OR Igbo-dominated coup of about 95% Igbo officers despite the fact that it was originally meant to be a "bloody nationalistic" coup which even Major Adewale Ademoyega who willingly took part in that coup states so (I have Ademoyega's book among several books on the Nigerian Civil War such as Olusegun Obasanjo, Godwin Alabi-Isama, Alexander Madiebo and Hilary Njoku, that I started reading and buying for my home library collection since 1981), BUT that Igbo-dominated coup of 1966 was hijacked by a group of Igbo officers as rightly NOTED in Ibrahim Babangida's book which I quoted ABOVE in my last post, and even in an interview by Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu before he died who accused some of the Igbo coup plotters of TRIBALISM in the way they allowed the coup to FAIL in the Eastern Region and Michael Okpara was left unharmed while the military and political leaders of other non-Igbo ethnic groups in the Northern Western and Mid-West Regions of Nigeria were KILLED by ONLY Igbo officers.

Despite the fact that CLEAR FACTS of evidence and references were given in my post, you are still denying that it was NOT an "Igbo coup" despite the CLEAR FACTs which you have quoted. Many older people of my generation have long moved on from the highly irresponsible January 15, 1966 coup and relate as best as possible with Igbos anywhere we meet around the world, BUT this satanic, highly demonic and relentless acts of telling LIES and denying the sequence of established historical events that (started from the days of the secessionist massob and ipob since the late 1990s) by you young Igbo ipob supporters is causing a lot of ANGER and offence among many Nigerian ethnic groups towards Igbos. If you go online, you will see very angryvideo reactions by men and women living in Nigeria and living in the Diasporans from Benin-Edos, Esan-Edos, Ibibios, Urhobos, Isokos, Ikwere, Ijaw, Igala, etc, over several video threats by highly irresponsible young Igbo ipob boys foolishly threatening to annex their ancestral homelands into a useless biafra. These acts of careless, condescending threats online are a declaration of WAR. It's not a joke because those irresponsible ipob videos are not bluffing too. So this is not about Yorubas alone who you people like to attack in your infantile blames game unknown to you, you have deeply offended people from many ethnic groups from Nigeria over this overbearing Igbo attitude and threats of Igbo invasion of their ancestral homelands for inclusion in a biafra. You Igbos are ALSO fabricating FAKE history on this thread and others claiming that the irresponsible January 1966 coup was an "Awolowo coup." That is madness and NOBODY of conscience will accept that. Let me warn you all, the Internet is not anonymous. Obinwane Okeke (The so-called invictus obi), the international fraudster was arrested by the FBI for international fraud with his gang running into millions of USD based on his footprints of his activities on Nairaland.

The reason why a lot of historically knowledgeable people are correcting you these young Igbos who troll online posting misleading information is to guide against leaving a LIE to spread and be told again and again. When NOT challenged, it becomes the truth. I will end my warning and comment of this thread topic here. Period.

Even Zimbabwe had a literacy rate of 98 percent in the early 2000s showing the high standard of education there right from when Zimbabwe gained independence from Britain back in the in April 1980 and changed it's name from Rhodesia to Zimbabwe under Robert Mugabe..

Ever since the notorious apartheid system led by those insane elements among the Afrikaans ended, South Africans have boosted the capacity building programs of her citizens and there's an elite core of indigenous South Africas who are excelling in different spheres of human endeavor.

RandDigital:
Farmers and agricultural workers are flooding into South Africa from neighbouring countries such as Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Namibia, and Mozambique.

This data was detailed in a recent Parliamentary Q&A, where the Department of Employment and Labour (DEL) was asked for the total number of work permits issued in the last financial year.

In response, the DEL explained that it provides recommendations on corporate work visa applications regarding the availability of local labour in various categories.

According to the department, it received 60 corporate work visa applications covering 6,255 migrant workers.

Of these, the DEL negatively recommended (rejected) 5,383 (86%) and positively recommended (approved) 872 (14%).

The approved visas included workers from several countries, including China, India, the Kingdom of Eswatini, Namibia, Mozambique, Lesotho, Pakistan, the UK, Israel, and Zimbabwe.

The various sectors included agriculture, education and training, manufacturing, mining, maritime, wholesale, and retail.

However, 91% (796) of the recommended approvals of work visas from the Department of Employment and Labour were for farmers and agricultural workers.

Most of these foreign agricultural workers came from neighbouring countries, Zimbabwe (445), Lesotho (250), Namibia (70), and Mozambique (30).

WHY ARE THEY COMING TO SOUTH AFRICA?

The chief economist of the Agricultural Business Chamber of South Africa (Agbiz), Wandile Sihlobo, told BusinessTech that these migrant farmers and workers are moving to South Africa for better opportunities and pay.

“South Africa’s agriculture is robust and growing. We had about 924,000 people working in primary agriculture at the end of the last quarter of 2024.

“There are workers in the sector from neighbouring countries who are attracted by competitive wages in South Africa’s agriculture,” he said.

“The revised agricultural Minimum Wage in South Africa is R28.79 per hour. In Namibia, the sectoral determination for farm workers is at R10 per hour.” This makes work in South Africa attractive, he said.

In some instances, Sihlobo added that farmers also provide lodging, which assists. Some, such as Lesotho, bring unique skills in sheep shearing, amongst other aspects.

However, Sihlobo stressed the importance of ensuring that South African workers receive primary work opportunities and that neighbouring countries supplement them when necessary.
South Africa has vast arable lands and temperate climate, so, it's NOT surprising that this is happening and indeed it has ALWAYS happened. In the past decades, citizens of Southern African countries neighboring South Africa used to come in to work in the SA mines. So, SA has got the allure for income generation for folks on different economic ladders.
PoliticsRe: The Curious Case Of Fajuiyi,The Falsehood And His Role In The Nzeogwu Led Coup by Konquest:
pazienza:
From Lt Walbe account and ADC Nwankwo account, we can rationally deduce the following:

1. Fajuiyi was marked to be killed by the North because they reckoned that he was the one who trained all the boys who participated in the coup, he ran a course which all those who were involved did.
Infact the only reason Fajuiyi wasn't personally involved in the coup was because he went on overseas course during the execution, but he supported the coup fully. So much for an Igbo coup.

2. The Western region media lied about the circumstances surrounding Fajuiyi death because that's all they always do, lie! Twist truths sell falsehood.
It was easier to do that that admit that Hausa-Fulani came to their region and killed their military governor in Fajuiyi! They didn't want to confront the implications of that, they were more interested in looking for ways to sell Igbo coup agenda and to pin Akintola( the same man who distablized their region and led to Awolowo imprisonment) death on the Igbo and push on with that agenda.
Their modus operandi hasn't changed till today.

3. If they could lie about Fajuiyi death, what else can they not lie about?

My Questions though:

Could it be that Fajuiyi was Awolowo link to the coup, could it be he was working for Awolowo incognito. He allegedly trained the boys involved in the coup, a coup that conveniently killed all Awolowo enemies!
Remember Awolowo has history of coup before, he was imprisoned for the crime of financial misappropriation and treasonable felony! Balewa accused him of hatching plans to overthrow his government.

Also remember that Awolowo actually was accused by IBB of trying to overthrow his government after Jakande ratted him out, and he was given the option of going to prison or exile by IBB government?
https://www.legit.ng/1169589-what-led-death-chief-obafemi-awolowo.html

Every other regional leader was killed , except those not reachable. Zik was outside the country, Okpara was entertaining international visitors and couldn't be reached without harming them. But Awolowo was most vulnerable he was in prison and easily reachable, yet he wasn't killed, why was that?
Could it be he was the masterminder of this coup and had Fajuiyi as his agent who brainwashed young soldiers like Nzeogwu and co into a suicide mission?

Why has this aspect of history not been explored before now? What was Awolowo role in this coup?
Your post is another of your highly insidious, rambling historical inconsistencies and conjectures you are known for. I once debunked your FALSE account years back that it was Awolowo and Yakubu Gowon that teamed up to create states on May 27, 1967,
BUT Chief Harold Dappa-Biriye (who hailed from Bonny Island) media interviews which I still have CLEARLY stating that it was he and other Rivers State leaders of thought including Ken Saro-Wiwa and more that visited Lagos Island several times (where Nigeria's administrative capital was located) and impressed it on General Yakubu Gowon from 1966 to 1967 to create states and move away from regions to reduce the alleged domination of the larger ethnic groups especially from the Igbo in the Old Eastern Region.
That 12 new states creation of May 27 1967 by General Yakubu Gowon was effectively carried out after due consultations with the indigenes of those new states contrary the claims you made on that thread post years back.

Second, Ibrahim Babangida NEVER accused Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, GCFR, SAN (who passed on in 1987 at the age of 78) of trying to overthrow him in any coup! YOU are spreading a recycled FAKE old story here. I was alive and a young adult as of the time Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo passed on and Babangida himself and many world leaders eulogised Awolowo who was given a grand state burial in Ikenne, Ogun State. IBB came into power in August 1985 till 1993, so, he didn't overthrow Awolowo or Jakande directly. Awolowo was a septuagenarian then (so how can an old man of 76 to 78 between 1985 to 1987 be plotting to overthrow IBB?). It's ONLY mentally deranged minds that would sit down in one little dingy corner, fabricate and then spread such defamatory conspiracy theories online!

Third. This same shameless strand among the Igbos are rewriting history by spreading criminal falsehoods that Awolowo plotted the January 1966 coup when the rest of the sane world knows from documented historical facts right from the early 1960s (1962) that Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, GCFR, SAN, Chief Ayo Adebanjo (the lawyer and factional Afenifere member passed on last week), Chief Anthony Enahoro and other leaders of the iconic Action Group Party totalling 17 people were all imprisoned in 1963 on FALSE charges by the NPC/Zik alliance structure which later floundered. Awolowo and the 17 others imprisoned in 1963 for 10 years NEVER committed treason OR plotted from prison ANY Ifeajuna-led coup of January 15, 1966 as irresponsibly being alleged and pushed around by ill-informed young Igbo posters on multiple online platforms.

Fourth. It's the same historical FACT that Ibrahim Babangida NEVER said "Yorubas are cowards" in any 1993 interview whether in Hausa or English languages. It's again another defamatory and asinine Igbo fabrication that gained momentum from ipob propaganda websites that I have visited for years now and that FAKE news is being relentlessly spread online by ONLY Igbos even right till last week. Babangida has a lot of Yoruba friends and associates over the years, so, he NEVER spoke condescendingly about Yorubas in any 1993 interview. All these highly offensive fables are being spread by you and other Igbos online and I have said it before that you are particularly known for engaging in sophistry on this website and your insidious falsehoods and half-truths will be debunked and much more. This place is not an ipob website where you can blatantly spread disinformation.

5] The MAJOR reasons why that January 15, 1966 coup has been termed an "Igbo coup" or "Igbo-dominated coup" since the 1966 in publications around Nigeria (NOT your so-called Western Nigeria media you falsely alluded to here) is simply because it was "hijacked" by Igbo officers who the Okpanam-born Kaduna Nzeogwu accused of in his interview he granted after the coup of TRIBALISM due to the fact that they did NOT carry out any killings in the Eastern Region while political and military leaders from other regions of Nigeria were killed.

Historically, ALL the Igbo officers who opened direct gunfire and KILLED the senior politicians and military leaders from the Northern, Western, and Mid-West Regions are all known by name right BELOW. NOBODY from other ethnic group killed Northern, Western and Mid-West leaders... ONLY the Igbos opened gunfire! Then MOST of the officers who took part that infamous coup were Igbos despite a few non-Igbos such as the naive Major Ademoyega and 2nd Lieutenant John Atom Kpera being mentioned. John Atom Kpera later fought as a veteran during the exactly 30 months Nigerian Civil War of July 1967 to January 1970 and rose to become a General from Benue State after it was clearly shown that he knew NOTHING about the coup and he and other non-Igbos in his squadron were drafted to take part in the military exercise by the largely Igbo officers who knew about the coup (without their knowledge of any coup plot!). General John Atom Kpera (rtd) is still alive and granted several interviews and reaffirmed that the 4 non-Igbo officers knew nothing about that irresponsible coup until after it occurred.

BELOW is the EXCERPT of the 2017 interview publication about the Nigerian Civil War veteran General John Atom Kpera. He is still alive in Benue State.

"Role I Played in 1966 Coup – General Atom Kpera"
Published on December 31, 2017
By John Owen Nwachukwu

“That is why I said I participated in it blindfolded. I wasn’t the ONLY one; ALL our officers, probably ONLY the Igbo officers knew that it was a coup. In that squadron, we were four that were non-Igbo, every other person was an officer of Igbo extraction. That was how it went.”
=>https://dailypost.ng/2017/12/31/role-played-1966-coup-general-atom-kpera/

6] Last but NOT least, (as an older man here with a vast knowledge for decades now of the geopolitical events before and after the EXACTLY two-and-half years Nigerian Civil War) the perception of that highly irresponsible January 15, 1966 ALL over Nigeria is that it was an "Igbo-dominated coup" OR "Igbo coup" because of the CLEAR FACTS I stated above even though that wasn't the ORIGINAL intention when Nzeogwu and co were selling that vision to some officers, BUT it was later hijacked, gullible officers like Ademoyega were cut off from the real goings on, and the killings MAJORLY occured in the Northern, Western and Mid-West Regions. This is the MAJOR reason why a counter coup or REPRISAL attacks by Northern Region military officers such as Theophilus Danjuma and more against largely Igbo officers took place 6 months later and civil unrests laced with deep public anger targeting ONLY Igbos took place in the Northern Region of Nigeria because that coup which was ORIGINALLY supposed to be a nationalistic coup unfortunately got hijacked and metamorphosed into grand "Igbo coup."

So, DON'T try to rewrite history here.

There is absolutely NOWHERE in IBB’s book where he said that the coup of January 15, 1966, was NOT an Igbo coup.

In fact, he alluded to the contrary in the book excerpt right BELOW, when he said the coup had taken on an ‘unmistakable ethnic coloration. (Meaning the coup which was supposed to be nationalistic was hijacked by "OUTSIDERS" or Igbo officers. IBB was simply being diplomatic or charitable in NOT using harsher words than he did in his book on those Igbo-dominated coup plotters).

Ahmadu Bello and his wife in Kaduna … He is Igbo-speaking.

As can be seen from ALL the evidence right ABOVE EVERYONE (from the former Northern, Western and Mid-West Regions who got brutally killed by gunfires in the highly irresponsible January 15, 1966 coup were killed by Igbo-speaking officers.

To irresponsibly deny and think that the January 15, 1966 coup was NOT an Igbo-dominated affair is criminal and a BIG insult by some Igbos on the memory of those who lost their lives in that coup and their surviving loved ones.
Period.

PoliticsRe: Seplat Energy Eyes 14 Trillion Cubic Feet Of Natural Gas In Acquired Assets by Konquest: 12:41am On Feb 26, 2025
NewDigitalWorld:
Seplat Energy eyes 14 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in acquired assets in Akwa Ibom.

The Chief Executive Officer of Seplat Energy, Roger Brown has disclosed that the company sees the potential of unlocking an estimated 14 trillion cubic feet of untapped natural gas in its newly acquired assets in Akwa Ibom State.

Brown said this while speaking at the Heirs Energies Leadership Forum 2025, in Abuja, where he spoke about Nigeria’s potential in accelerating oil & gas production, unlocking untapped gas reserves, and driving sustainable growth in the energy sector.

He reaffirmed Seplat Energy’s commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s energy sector by accelerating oil production and expanding its domestic gas supply capacity.

“We see tremendous potential in unlocking 14 TCF of untapped gas in our newly acquired assets in Akwa Ibom State and we are aligned with the government’s vision that every barrel of oil and molecule of gas counts,” he said.

Seplat Energy Targets 850 Million scf

He stated that the company will deliver 850 million standard cubic feet of gas for domestic and industrial use in Nigeria.

“Seplat Energy is committed to supporting the delivery of Nigeria’s energy future by accelerating oil production and delivering on our 850 million scf gas capacity to domestic industry including power, fertilizer production, and LNG.”

He noted that Seplat Energy’s targets and recent investments align with the Nigerian government’s vision of optimizing every available resource to strengthen energy security and economic growth.

“We are aligned with the government’s vision that every barrel of oil and molecule of gas counts. As such, we will continue to invest in safe and efficient operations to ensure long-term energy security and sustainable growth,” the CEO added.

He stressed that Nigeria’s energy sector is undergoing a historic transformation, with unprecedented divestments.

He said these new investments and divestments will unlock new opportunities for growth in the energy sector.

Backstory

Last year, Seplat Energy, which is listed in both Nigeria and London acquired Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU) from ExxonMobil for $1.3 billion.

• The assets acquired primarily include oil and gas operations in several oil fields and export terminals in Akwa Ibom state.

• The acquisition has now bestowed on Seplat, equity in 11 blocks (onshore and shallow water); 48 producing oil and gas fields; 5 gas processing facilities; and 3 export terminals.

Nairametrics reported that the acquisition will double Seplat Energy’s oil production capacity.

The company described it as a “game-changer, positioning us to maximize the potential of mature assets through strategic investments and high-impact drilling campaigns.”

What you should know

• With Nigeria pushing to expand gas utilization as a transition fuel, Seplat Energy’s investments in oil and gas infrastructure, as well as other recent multibillion Naira investments, are expected to play a key role in enhancing domestic energy supply and supporting industries.

• The federal government has a target of producing over 2 million barrels per day of crude oil in 2025, but its output for January was 1.5 Mbps.

• It is short of 500,000 bpd, but the government has vowed to meet this target this year, as the 2025 budget is benchmarked on an output of 2.06 Mbps

Those are indeed huge targets. These oil and assets originally belonged to ExxonMobil before exiting the onshore facilities to concentrate more on the lucrative offshore exploration.

I also thought along your POV. Thank you for emphasizing on and mentioning Abayomi Ogundeyin's Proforce Defence Industries Ltd. Belarus indeed bought Armoured Vehicles from Proforce a few years ago because of the high quality of Armored Vehicles and MRAPS.

Proforce can even manufacture these tractors just like they produce other motorized vehicles such as boats and more. In my FIRST post on this thread, I made a suggestion that the Nigerian governments must invite existing Nigerian domestic manufacturers of farm tractors to supply their mini tractors as part of the leasing scheme. The technology tractors and farm equipment manufacturer can be further improved down the road.
AgricultureRe: Food Production: Nigeria Receives First Batch Of Farm Implements From Belarus by Konquest:
TimeManager:
The Federal Government has received the first batch of 2,000 tractors and 9,027 other farming equipment from Belarus as part of efforts to enhance mechanised farming and accelerate food production across the country.

The Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, confirmed the development in a video posted on X.com on Tuesday.

“Nigeria has received the first batch of the 2,000 tractors and 9,027 other farming equipment to be procured in 2025 as President Tinubu’s administration seeks to accelerate food production in the country,” Olusegun wrote.

According to him, the new tractors will be distributed under three key schemes aimed at making mechanised farming more accessible to different segments of the farming community.

“The tractors will be distributed under three key schemes: direct purchase for individuals and organizations seeking to acquire them outright, a leasing scheme that provides affordable access to mechanization without full ownership costs, and a service provider model that establishes tractor service centers in farming communities across the country, allowing smallholder farmers to lease tractors as needed,” he explained.

To ensure sustainability, Olusegun added that the government has procured spare parts alongside the tractors to guarantee maintenance for at least the next four years.

The arrival of the farming equipment aligns with the government’s broader strategy to enhance food production and reduce the soaring prices of food commodities. In August 2024, President Bola Tinubu announced that Nigeria had placed orders for mechanised farm tools from the United States, Belarus, and Brazil to support the agricultural sector.

Similarly, in January 2025, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, disclosed that the government had begun receiving the 2,000 tractors ordered from Belarus, reaffirming its commitment to modernizing agriculture and addressing food security challenges.

The initiative is expected to provide smallholder farmers and agribusinesses with greater access to mechanized farming tools, ultimately improving agricultural productivity and stabilising food prices across the country
https://leadership.ng/food-production-nigeria-receives-first-batch-of-farm-implements-from-belarus/
That's impressive.

Belarus is one of the former Soviet Union republics. The leasing option is the best in order to lower the entry bar and with 2000 tractors that's a huge figure based off of the first batch... An average of 333 for each of the 6 regional blocs in Nigeria if they choose that format for distribution. I wonder if these are brand new (or refurbished tractors that are still in working condition)?

I've seen videos in the recent past of up to 3 Nigerians with two being from the West of Nigeria and one in Jos who manufacture portable tractors, so, the Nigerian goverments at all levels MUST see how to key them into the agribusiness revolution (i.e., if they are certified OK with proper aftersales services in place).

Last but not least, remember all-round security is essential against the vicious and incidious foreign herdmen and bandits within some of those agro ecosystems. A man was able to save himself and members of staff from one of such attacks about 3 years ago by armed criminals with the aid of his drone which was hovering over the large farmhouse in one of the North-Central states (Kwara State to be precise).

PoliticsRe: The Tension Between Hausa And Fulani by Konquest: 4:20am On Feb 25, 2025
nsiba:
The cultural and ethnic melding of Northern Nigeria’s Hausa and the Fulani people is so deep, so labyrinthine, so time-honored, and so unexampled that a fictitious ethnic category called the “Hausa-Fulani” was invented by Nigeria’s southern press to describe the emergent ethnic alchemy it has produced.

Northern intellectuals resented the label at first. For example, the late Dr. Yusufu Bala Usman, the famously iconoclastic professor of history at the Ahmadu Bello University who was ethnically Fulani and who was the scion of the Katsina and Kano royal families, condemned the hyphenation of Hausa and Fulani as both ill-willed and ignorant.

But several Northern Nigerian elites of Hausa and Fulani filiation have now enthusiastically embraced it. President Muhammadu Buhari, for instance, told the Weekly Trust in 1999 that he loved the hyphenated Hausa-Fulani identity that the southern press invented because it encapsulates the complexity of his own identity. His father is Fulani while his mother is half Kanuri and half Hausa.

More than that, though, Buhari is culturally and linguistically Hausa. Like most people in Nigeria’s northwest who trace patrilineal bloodline to the Fulani (including most of the emirs), he doesn’t speak a lick of Fulfulde (as the language of the Fulani is called in Nigeria) and is completely divorced from the culture of the “unmingled” Fulani who now live mostly in Nigeria’s northeast and in the bushes elsewhere in the country.

Over the years, the northern political elite not only used the common Islamic heritage of the Hausa and the Fulani people as an instrument to construct and cement the notion of an undivided and indivisible Hausa-Fulani identity, they also encouraged other parts of the country to see them as one, undifferentiated people.

In time, the rest of the country came to regard the Hausa and the Fulani as indistinguishable. A popular quip among the Yoruba says, “Gambari pa Fulani ko lejo ninu,” which roughly translates as “If a Hausa person kills a Fulani person, there is no case,” implying that the Hausa and the Fulani are homogenous people whose internal strife are no more than evanescent, resolvable sibling squabble.

But the emergence and unabating intensification of kidnapping for ransom and other forms of rural and urban banditry in the Northwest where most of the villains are Fulani and most of the victims are Hausa are rupturing the centuries-old ethnic harmony between the Hausa and the Fulani that Nigerians had taken for granted.

In response to the rural and urban banditry by mostly Fulani brigands against Hausa people, Hausa people have formed vigilante groups called yan sakai or yan banga for self-defense, but Fulani people say the yan banga self-defense groups often indiscriminately murder innocent Fulani people who are not even remotely connected with abductions and murders.

This has provoked an endless cycle of recriminations and retaliatory violence between Hausa and Fulani people and is threatening the age-old, Islam-inspired ethnic fusion between them.

This has been going on for years under the radar of the national and international media until BBC’s BBC Africa Eye brought it to the forefront of global attention in its Jul 24, 2022, documentary titled “The Bandit Warlords of Zamfara.” The documentary showed that although the Hausa and the Fulani share a common culture, religion, heritage, and language, they are, for the most part, divided and rarely mix in rural areas. They fight over land, water, and food.

Self-confessed Fulani bandits told the BBC that Hausa people enjoy preferential treatments in government jobs, that Fulani people face discrimination in the formal sector in northern Nigeria, and that kidnapping, banditry, and indiscriminate mass murders were the only way they could call attention to their neglect.

Following the documentary, which so unsettled the Nigerian government that local TV stations that rebroadcast it were fined, there has been an open discussion, particularly in Arewa social media circles, of hitherto culturally taboo subjects such as whether Usman Dan Fodio whose jihad inaugurated the current Fulani ruling families in much of Muslim northern Nigeria was a Hausa-hating Fulani ethnic supremacist.

Islam had been centuries old and already deeply entrenched in Hausa land before Usman Dan Fodio’s nineteenth-century jihad, which many historians have called a “Fulani war.” The well-regarded seventeenth-century Songhai Muslim scholar by the name of Ahmad Baba, for instance, had recognized Hausa land as a bastion of Islam.

In a 1613 essay titled, “Al-kashf wa-l-bayān li-aṣnāfmajlūb al-Sūdān” (translated into English as “The Exposition and Explanation Concerning the Varieties of Transported Black Africans”), he wrote that “the people of Kano, some of Zakzak [Zaria], the people of Katsina, the people of Gobir, and all of the Songhay” lived under ideal Islamic rule and could never be enslaved by other Muslims.

About 200 years later, when Dan Fodio decided to “reform” the Islam he met in Hausa land, he repudiated the Islam that the Hausa people had practiced. In his 1806 treatise titled "Bayan Wujub Al-Hijra, Ala L-Ibad,” Dan Fodio rebutted Ahmad Baba’s thesis by asserting that what was true of Hausa land when Ahmad Baba wrote, “might not necessarily be true at all other times, since every scholar relates what he sees in his own days.” Dan Fodio’s son, Muhammad Bello, also wrote Infaq al-mansur in 1813, exactly 200 years after Ahmad Baba, and contested the notion that Hausa land was ruled by Islamic precepts.

Now, in everyday dialogic engagements on social media, in the marketplace, and in the streets, Hausa and Fulani people are openly talking about the jihad and its decidedly ethnic character. Hausa people are asking why all the emirs that emerged from the jihad, except for that of Bauchi, were Fulani. (Emirs in Borgu in Kwara and Niger states are not the product of the jihad and are not Fulani.)

These questions are especially important because the Fulani emirs who dislodged Hausa Muslim rulers have been doing exactly what the Hausa Muslim rulers were accused of by Fulani jihadists—keeping multiple wives and concubines, oppressing everyday folks called the talakawa, believing and partaking in fortunetelling, etc. Besides, in Islam, leadership isn’t hereditary, so Hausa people are asking why a supposedly Islamic jihad has entrenched Fulani ethnic monarchies to the exclusion of the native Hausa populations.

These debates aren’t new, of course. For example, in a June 30, 2000, article titled “The Fulani Factor in Nigerian Politics” published in the Weekly Trust, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (who later became the emir of Kano on June 8, 2014, and was dethroned on March 9, 2020) caused a stir among not just other Nigerians but also among Hausa people when he said although the Fulani in northern Nigeria have lost their language and culture to the Hausa, they still cherish the irreproducible cultural and genetic distinctiveness that their ethnic identity imbues them with.

He isolated Nigerian leaders of putative Fulani line of descent—Ahmadu Bello, Shehu Shagari, Murtala Mohammed, and Muhammadu Buhari—whom he said even their “greatest enemies” respect because they supposedly embodied incomparable and uniquely Fulani values (even when they are/were not culturally Fulani).

He pointed out that the same could not be said of “other prominent non-Fulani contemporaries of these great men,” including military Head of State Ibrahim Babangida, who is Hausa, and Sani Abacha, who was Kanuri but born and raised in Kano. Sanusi then said the Fulani are “culturally programmed, generation after generation, to imbibe the best spirits of what makes good leadership, to a far greater extent than competing cultures.”

Garba Shehu, now a spokesperson for President Muhammadu Buhari, who is ethnically Hausa from Jigawa, was incensed. In a response titled “Sanusi’s Racist Rubbish” on July 7, 2000, Shehu wrote: “When I read Sanusi L. Sanusi’s article ‘The Fulani Factor in Nigerian Politics’…I came away with the feeling that the writer wanted to do one of two things: to either be ridiculous or to insult all of us who are not Fulani with some racist crap.”

Shehu invalidated Sanusi’s ethnic supremacist notion of a Fulani culture that makes Fulani people such good, just leaders by calling attention to the atrocities that were perpetuated against Hausa people by Fulani emirs—or what he called the “well-documented acts of brigandage” by the “Fulani oligarchy”— which instigated the emergence of the Northern Elements Progressives Union (NEPU).

“Where was he when the late Sa’adu Zungur, Aminu Kano, and company fought Fulani rulers who forced Hausa peasants to work the emirs’ farms, snatched wives, plundered what was kept in their trust, and appropriated/mismanaged farmlands and other resources belonging to their subjects?” Shehu wrote.

These sorts of emotive brickbats between everyday Hausa and Fulani people are escalating and becoming mainstream in the aftermath of the bloodstained conflict between Hausa farmers and Fulani herders. In fact, there are now calls, from both Hausa and Fulani interlocutors, for the reformation of the emirate system to strip emirship of its exclusivity to people of Fulani ancestry.

I think these are transitory, spur-of-the-moment tensile pushes and pulls that may soon abate, but it’s astonishing that it’s even happening.

Everyone who died in the January coup was killed by a "son" of Zik. Nobody from another tribe pulled a trigger that killed anyone in the January coup.

To imagine that the January coup was not an Igbo affair in as insult on the memory of the casualties.

So Nzeogwu spoke Hausa fluently and lived in the North…. SO WHAT?

Ojukwu was born in the North. Spoke Hausa fluently. Up until he was made Governor of Eastern region, he never lived in the East. He schooled in Lagos and England before joining the military. History remembers him as the warlord that led the Biafra war.

Zik was born in the North. Spoke Hausa fluently. His parents had to send him home so he could learn the language. He spoke Yoruba fluently. His early political career was in Yorubaland.

That did not stop him from building an Igbo supremacist group called Igbo federal union where he declared that his people were created by God as a special race to lead others.

Propaganda has no place in our time. Your fathers killed innocent people… murdered innocent women and even pregnant women. You can never whitewash the sins of your fathers with any kind of Propaganda.
That brilliantly sums it all up.
