19 Mar 2019 — Up to Fiditi, they were Gbagura towns. For instance, in Fiditi, an Egba man is given discount in the market by Fiditi traders.
I learnt that there is a strong connection between Egba and Ibadan. Can you expatiate on this?
There is no doubt that there is a strong connection between the two towns as you have said. There must be connection between us because what you know as Ibadan was part of Egba.
How do you mean?
There is no controversy over it that those places as Moniya, Ojoo, University of Ibadan, Oje, Idi Arere were Gbagura land. Up to Fiditi, they were Gbagura towns. For instance, in Fiditi, an Egba man is given discount in the market by Fiditi traders. Ibadan is a town which comprises warriors from different parts of Yorubaland. I mean those warriors from the 100 years civil war, migrated to form what is today Ibadan. That is a statement of fact which is well documented. As I said earlier, the Ibadans know this that the town is a convergence of different Yoruba towns. If you go through the list of the Olubadans, you would see their origins to understand better what I am talking about.
~~~~~~~~~~~ Meet 19-Year-Old Ondo Monarch Who Just Graduated From Secondary School
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cn5gC9ElVCM?si=mo0NBOlR0juZ7nm6 Punch Newspapers • Aug 30 2022 Oba Oloyede Adeyeoba Akinghare II, the Arujale Ojima of Okeluse kingdom of Ondo State, is one of the youngest monarchs in Nigeria. He just completed his secondary school education.
He ascended the throne in February 2019 after his father died while he was in secondary school. ~~~~~~~~~~~~
If this DNA test was done in London, how come the address of the DNA diagnostic center is in Ohio in the United States?
In any event, as long as this young lady wasn't found to have used diabolic metaphysical means to take Ayeni, if the DNA test shows he's the biological father of the child, then Tunde Ayeni should "step up" and play his role. He isn't gonna be the FIRST man on earth to ever have a child from another younger woman while in an existing legal marriage. His legal wife seems pained but understanding and she must be commended for that. This drama has to end ASAP so that these crappy bloggers and YouTubers don't start feeding on the story to the point where the mangle the facts up just to trend online. Period.
Christistruth02: Egbaland Stretched from Fiditi after Oyo to the Lagos Lagoon.
After Egba converged on Abeokuta they reclaimed all their Territories South of Abeokuta in the Ota war of 1842.
Alimosho and Abule Egba are part of Egbaland
That's an interesting perspective.
You know what? I used to think that all those areas you mentioned right into those parts of Lagos State are Aworiland. The Egba presence I felt was a case of the Modekeke - Ife relationship where the Modekeke folks were originally supposed to be settlers paying land rent.
The official state creation gazette of 1967 that I read online some years ago affirms that the 3 groups: Aworis, Ijebus,and Ogus are indigenous to Lagos State. Nothing was said about the Egbas.
Lagos State as we know was created on May 27 1967 by General Yakubu Gowon's military goverment alongside 11 other new states with over 95 percent of the total land area of the new Lagos State being carved out of the Old Western Region. Areas such as Ikeja, Agege, Badagry, Ojo, Amuwo Odofin, Ibeju-Lekki, Epe, Ikorodu, Mushin, Isolo, Orile Iganmu, etc, were all carved out of the Old Western Region [previously governed by Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo GCFR SAN and his dynamic team in the Action Group Party] and merged with the way smaller dual Federal Capital and State Capital (Lagos Island) right up to parts of the Mainland: Surulere, Yaba, etc.
Today, I commissioned the newly completed Abule Egba Bus Terminal in Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), which is designed to enhance seamless mass transportation from this suburb to other parts of our city.
This strategic bus terminal, located near the Lagos Red Line corridor, provides a convenient route for passengers to board and exit buses and connect to other transportation options.
This project marks another significant milestone in my administration’s commitment to upgrading Lagos’ public transportation system with modern, sustainable infrastructure that meets the commuting needs of our citizens.
Our vision is to enhance mobility and stimulate urban and economic growth through interconnected transportation networks, offering residents various commuting options by rail, water, or land. To further improve access to intracity rail transport, I announced a 30% reduction in fares for the Lagos Red Line service, lowering costs from N1,500 to N1,000.
I am also pleased to share that we expect new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric buses to arrive by the third quarter of this year, which will expand our fleet, increase bus availability, and reduce waiting times at bus stops.
I urge residents to take ownership of this project, as it has been made possible through your tax contributions. Please take pride in it, protect it, and ensure it remains safe from harm. By safeguarding these assets, we can all benefit from their long-term value and continue to build a better future for our community. https://x.com/jidesanwoolu/status/1891908888431296999?t=l16zs4d5Op3sruH2JTz8Ag&s=19
- This initiative will also promote cultural heritage, as it would help to modernize Yoruba by incorporating contemporary legal terminologies, thereby enriching the language and keeping it relevant for future generations.
Editorialtimes: The odds of asteroid 2024 YR4 colliding with Earth have surged, reaching a historic probability threshold that has raised concerns among scientists and global space agencies. According to NASA’s Center for Near Earth Object Studies (CNEOS), the asteroid now has a 1 in 32 (3.1%) chance of impact, a sharp increase from earlier predictions.
Initially discovered in December 2024, its impact probability was 1.2% (1 in 83) before doubling to 2.3% on February 7, then rising to 2.6% earlier this week, and now hitting its highest recorded figure. These odds make 2024 YR4 the most dangerous asteroid currently tracked, surpassing even the 2004 predictions for Apophis, which had a 2.7% chance of striking Earth before later calculations ruled it out.
Lagos at Risk if Asteroid Strikes
Measuring between 131 and 295 feet in diameter, YR4 is large enough to generate an 8-megaton explosion, equivalent to 500 times the power of the Hiroshima atomic bomb.
Among the major cities in the asteroid’s projected trajectory is Lagos, Nigeria, one of the world’s most densely populated urban centers. With over 20 million residents, an impact on Lagos Island, Ikeja, or Victoria Island could result in catastrophic destruction, wiping out entire districts and severely affecting surrounding areas.
No Immediate Cause for Panic—Yet
Despite the alarming statistics, scientists urge the public not to panic.
Experts predict that the impact probability may continue to rise before eventually dropping to zero, as has been the case with many previously tracked asteroids.
To refine the risk assessment, NASA and the ESA will deploy the James Webb Space Telescope, using its infrared instruments to accurately measure the asteroid’s size and determine its exact trajectory.
The ESA confirmed that NASA, ESA, and other space agencies will analyze this data to assess the risk and prepare any necessary response measures.
The asteroids can be blasted off course based on guided simulations. One asteroid making a landfall can be catastrophic for any populated area... The "Tunguska Valley" comes to mind.
This is a fight between the two factions of APC in Lagos. The Mandate Group and the Justice Forum.
Odumbaku (Baba Eto belongs to the Mandate) while mostly the younger folks (including several LAHA members) belongs to the justice.
Obasa is from Lagos. Although his family are settlers in the Iju/Agege are in the 1800. He is not Awori by descent but Ijaiye/Egba. Ironically, several folks from the Ishaga, ogba, abules Egba, Agege e.t.c area supporting The new speaker (justice) are also Ijaiye/Egba settlers (from the sack of Ijaiye during kurunmi war. Pansan ti won fi na iyale lol. Politics is crazy.
There are Obasa in Iju area of lagos. Obasa is a general Yoruba name. You would find Obasa everywhere there are yorubas. From Kogi to Osun to Ogun to Lagos.
Impressive historical takes.
Kurunmi War leading to the sack of Ijaiye. (1860-1862).
The Egbas were the original occupants of the ancient military town of Ijaiye in the northern fringe of the Egba forest. The Egbas were from the southern Yoruba group where they were mainly engaged in agricultural production.
Ijaiye (or Ijaye) was a short-lived kingdom in what is today Oyo State, Nigeria. Ijaye was founded about the same time as Ibadan, by refugees from the Ikoyi area, led by Kurunmi. It broke away from the Oyo Empire in 1836 and was reconquered in 1861... This town was re-inhabited in 1895, 32 years after it was destroyed due to an intra-ethnic and supremacy war with Ibadan; another military power at that time.
A part of what is now Ibadan (Eba-Odan) was historically an Egba town as of 1829. Oyo folks and refugees under the guidance of military warrior leaders also moved into Ibadan and the Egbas (who are a branch of Oyo) where forced to migrate out under Chief Sodeke leading to the founding of Abeokuta in 1830. Abeokuta was founded as a replacement for Orile Egba in around 1830 by the Egbas after the collapse of the Oyo empire during the Civil War.
It's clear from the historical sequences that the Ijaiyes/Egbas settled in the Iju/Agege area after Abeokuta was fully settled in 1830 and Ijaiye (dominantly occupied by Egbas) was besieged by Ibadan military forces between 1860 and 1862.
Though originally of settler descent from the 1800s, I think Mudasiru Obasa can now be termed a naturalized indigene of Lagos State based off of the number of years (close to 200 years) his forebears first landed in the Iju/Agege axis. If the direct Tapa descendants of Chief (Balogun) Landuji Oshodi Tapa (circa.1780 - July 2 1868), who was Oba Kosoko's war minister and one of the most powerful chiefs in the Oba of Lagos' court on Eko Island (Lagos Island) from the 1800s are considered Lagos Island and Lagos State indigenes today, why NOT Mudasiru Obasa of Egbas stock as long as he's of the larger Yoruba stock?
*Greetings to Everyone,* On behalf of myself, *Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Adekunle Obasa, and the Obasa Family of Ikemo Royal House Ojo Town, Ojo LGA, Lagos State.* I wish to address and clarify the recent malicious rumors circulating about my alleged dealings with *Hon. Mudashiru Obasa*.
I want to clarify to the public that I, *Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Adekunle Obasa,* born August 29, 1970, and a member of *the Obasa Family from Ojo Town, Ojo LGA, Lagos State,* I'm not connected with Mudashiru Obasa, who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, despite his role as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly and he is not in any way connected to my family root of "Obasa" In Ojo LGA, Lagos State.
To prove that, I completed my primary education at St. Michael Primary School, Ojo Town and obtained my West African School Certificate from Awori College, Ojo Town, in 1989. I also hold a Diploma in Law from Lagos State University, Ojo Town.
My political career includes serving as a former member of the Nigerian National Assembly representing Ojo Constituency in the 8th and 9th National Assembly, Special Assistant to Hon. On the other hand, Mudashiru Obasa, born March 11, 1973, is known for his role as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly since 2015 and he's originally from Ogun State.
*The recent rumors falsely claim that Mudashiru Obasa has brokered a deal with me on behalf of Obasa family root to acquire a membership of the Obasa family root in Ojo Town for his gubernatorial ambitions in Lagos State for 2027 is untrue.* It has also been suggested that this deal involves Cardinal James Omolaja Odunmbaku, also from Ogun State who allegedly influenced Hon Mudashiru to bury his late father in Lagos to avoid the alleged error of the current Deputy governor remains their business as none of the Obasa family root members is in the know of this.
I want to also make it clear that these rumors are untrue, malicious, and unfounded.
There is no agreement or transaction involving Mudashiru Obasa and the Obasa family regarding the sale or transfer of family root for him to claim which sounds very funny and fraudulent.
If any concrete evidence emerges linking Mudashiru Obasa to these rumors, I will not hesitate to pursue legal action.
I also wish to emphasize that my focus is on representing my people effectively, and I am committed to them.
chopnaira: Nigeria’s transport sector is set for a revolution as the Lagos-Abuja High-Speed Bullet Train gains momentum, reducing travel time between both cities from 12 hours to just 2–3 hours.
The Director of Operations at Geofocus Consortium, Engineer Yinka Idris, in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday, described the project as a milestone in Nigeria’s development. Idris lauded President Bola Tinubu’s administration for prioritising infrastructure and fostering Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to drive economic growth.
According to Idris, the bullet train will provide a faster, safer, and more efficient alternative to road travel.
Idris said that the initiative aligned with Tinubu’s vision of leveraging private sector expertise to deliver world-class infrastructure without overburdening public finances.
“Currently, travelers between Lagos and Abuja face long hours in traffic, safety concerns, and reduced productivity,” he said. He said that the project would significantly ease movement, enhance trade, and improve the overall business environment.
“As part of the development, ten smart cities with 10,000 housing units each will be built along the rail corridor.“An independent power plant will also be constructed to support the train and surrounding infrastructure,” he said.
Idris said that the Lagos-Abuja bullet train is expected to create thousands of jobs during construction and after completion.
He said that the initiative aligned with Tinubu’s commitment to reducing unemployment and fostering economic prosperity through major infrastructure projects.
“With feasibility studies completed and proof of funds secured, the project now awaits approvals from the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) before construction begins,” he said.
Idris said that the construction phase is expected to last between 48 and 52 months
He said its completion would promote the project as Nigeria’s largest-ever PPP-driven initiative and a benchmark for transport infrastructure across Africa.
Beyond transportation, Idris said the bullet train would reduce road congestion, lower carbon emissions, and extend the lifespan of highways.
He said that such would represent a major step toward sustainable and environmentally friendly infrastructure development.
“As Nigeria moves closer to realizing this dream, citizens can anticipate a future of seamless travel, improved quality of life, and enhanced economic opportunities under President Tinubu’s leadership,” he added.
Topman7: Has Nigeria Turned A Corner? Investors Think So Nigeria’s fortunes appear to be looking up after nearly two years of painful economic reforms that triggered a cost-of-living crisis.
Improved security in its main oil-producing region has boosted earnings from crude, which generates about 80% of foreign-exchange inflows.
Daily output averaged 1.54 million barrels in January, a four-year high and exceeding the West African nation’s OPEC+ quota.
The pickup in revenue has helped stabilize the naira that plunged about 70% against the dollar since June 2023, when the central bank started allowing it to trade more freely.
Investors have taken note.
The extra yield they demand to hold the country’s dollar debt has fallen to a five-year low. And the main stock index is up 11% since the beginning of December, triple the gain posted by the MSCI developing-world equities index.
Nigeria, meanwhile, looks set to regain the mantle of Africa’s biggest economy (it currently ranks fourth) when the national statistics agency releases rebased figures next month. Gross domestic product is expected to be revised upward to almost $500 billion.
The release of overhauled inflation data on Tuesday was another boon. The measure fell to 24.5% from almost 35% a month before.
That could offer the central bank scope to trim its key interest rate when it meets on Thursday, giving consumer spending and the economy another lift.
The good news hasn’t come a moment too soon for President Bola Tinubu, whose attempts to steady the government’s finances have sent food and fuel prices soaring, and exacerbated hardship in a country where more than half the population lives below the poverty line.
Challenges remain to keep up the momentum, but the long-flailing economy does have a far better look.
aswani: First paragraph, I can indeed confirm that your stance on this and other matters is as you said. On reflection, the word "sugercoat" I used is not appropriate. I can't remember the right word now and it might come to me in time. "Brutally honest" maybe?!
I also didn't read the person you were responding to, which I guess would have put your post in context.
For the above things, I apologise.
In my defence (and opinion), crimes in Ogun state as reported on here and other outlets lately have seemingly (and dissapointingly) increased to high levels and regardless of the state of origin of the perpetrators, Abiodun must start being as visibly proactive as Soludo before it completely gets out of hand (if it hasn't already). That was really the thrust of my admittedly on reflection, not so well put forward argument.
I accept I don't have statistics to put to you to prove the above plus other states still have stuff happening too.
Also, I believe "cross border raiders" from the Republic of Benin might be involved in some of the crimes stated in Ogun state, not just the people you mentioned (hopefully you don't get to consumed in fighting certain people off as I expect you will receive some feedback over it).
Anyway, I wish you a good day. Thanks once more for your insightful analysis and clear breakdown. We won't always agree on everything but your civility is priceless considering what one has to wade through on here.
@aswani
Greetings again and thank you.
I didn't realize that you've responded to my post until I logged in just now. You can read my last post again because I added some facts and corrected a few typographic errors.
You're absolutely right, I recall back in the early 2000s when OBJ was still the Nigerian President (based on available crime intel and the media reports in the public domain), the notorious Hamani Tijani, a Beninoise and his notorious gang of car snatchers usually crossed into Ogun State to steal cars and people sometimes got killed in the process.
That's how the Yoruba-born doctor wife of the recently deceased Chief Edwin Clark lost her young daughter (from her first marriage in a gun fire exchange that was thought to have come from one of the notorious highway bandits at that time though to be Hamani Tijani's gang). Incidentally, Ms. Iyabo Obasanjo was sitting in the very spot of the car (where the girl who died got hit by bullets just some minutes before). She had only moved to another car seat otherwise Iyabo Obasanjo would have been killed by the bullet. She was in the car with Edwin Clark's wife on their way back from Abeokuta to Lagos. OBJ got really angry and fully stepped in, that's how with the help of the government of Benin Republic, they were able to get Hamani Tijani arrested with his Beninoise gang and had them jailed. Since then, Beninoise citizens hardly get involved in highway crimes in Ogun State again as OBJ threatened Benin Republic with reprisals at that time. The Beninoise and their Nigerian collaborators do get into some smuggling of rice and other fast-moving commodities through the common borders but NOT the scary kind of Hamani Titanic daring highway armed robbery raids into Nigeria back in the 2000s.
All the security variables are being looked into but Ogun State and other state Governors including the Commissioners of Justice are complicit in the escalating crime rates by NOT signing the death warrants. They have to stop wasting time about enacting maximum laws on the death penalty. Even death penalty exists in some states in the United States including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, China, etc.If these Nigerian Governors are scared of "spilling blood," then they can simply use electric chairs, hanging and lethal injections! They can ALSO use "naming and shaming" strategies while publicly parading criminals (drug barons and drug traffickers, armed robbers, kidnappers, etc) to the Palaces of the Kings or chiefs in their various hometowns and villages to put them to "extreme shame" and deter other potential criminals from stealing due to public shame. You know many people (especially us men) don't like public DISGRACE and so, would behave ourselves. These are some of the creative strategies that I have thought about since the 1990s to curb crimes.
Goodvibes007: Not the first time. Some skull miners arrested not long ago in Ogun state were also also from Anambra and Imo.
That's the full story and videos of the arrest of those Igbo criminals BELOW. Read and watch the full video:
Many vicious crimes such as armed robberies, kidnappings for ransom, bank robberies, drug trafficking, baby factory and child stealing cartels, some ritual killings, petrol tanker hijacking, etc, that occured in Ogun State and other states in Yorubaland in the last 35 years or more are NOT committed by indigenes of those states or Yorubas. Most of the crimes committed by non-Yorubas based on the credible crime and intelligence data available to me which are also in the media reports going back to over 35 years are Igbos are young Igbo criminals from majorly parts of Anambra with a few from Abia and Imo. One of the arrested Anambra armed robbers arrested in Lagos State for a vicious bank robberies in Lagos and Ogun States (using oxyacetyline gas cylinders to cut their way through the vaults) said the culture pressure in the Anambra villages is what pushed him into armed Robbery and said among his age group, if you are up to 30 years of age and you are NOT yet a millionaire that they would look down on you in the village. That's what he confessed to the crime reporters who interviewed him. Some armed Ijaws pirates from Bayelsa and Delta States operating in Arepo in Ogun, Lagos, and Ondo States (who were into bank robberies through the waterways in VI and Ikoyi, Amuwo Odofin, armed robberies on residential buildings, rapes, and kidnappings for ransom) and armed Fulani herders also constitute part of the non-Yorubas who have committed vicious crimes over the last 30 years. But the Igbos East of River Niger are in the highest and worse offenders.
Christistruth00: But that was the War in Which the Alaafin was killed
The Crown prince of Oyo and Eleduwe the Bariba King were also killed in that War
Oshogbo of 1840 and the Jalumi war were the real deal
At the Oshogbo War the Fulani Jihad fled all the Way to Kebbi without Stopping and Oyo People Crossed the Niger and settled in Towns all the Way to Mokwa though the Oyo and Ibadan Army remained at Jebba and didn’t Cross the Niger because they didn’t know what to expect on the other Side
The Fulani Jihad had reached kebbi before stopping because they thought the Ibadan Warriors were still Pershing them
Later on when the Emir of Kontagora started issuing threats the Oyos that gasped settled in Towns and Villages all the way to Mokwa moved back across the River Niger to the Jebba Area for safety
The Fulani quietly smuggled themselves back into Ilorin while the Yorubas was busy beating themselves up in the Kiriji War years later on and still yet the Ibadan Army still managed to inflict the Calamitous defeat of the Jalumi War on Ilorin again while the Ibadan were fighting War on 5 fronts
Aare Ogunmola of Ibadan was something else, fighting Ogedengbe and the Ekiti Parapo on one Side, beating up Ilorin on the Other, fighting Egba and Ijebu on another front at the same time as keeping Ijaye and Dahomey in Check and Ogunmola never lost any War
How did Ogunmola even manage to Sleep?
It could only have been the Grace of God towards the Yoruba it was a near impossible feat
OduduwaR how come i who you accused of being Bororo Fulani is now the one correcting your Yoruba History ?
The war that sent shockwaves into the heart of the old Sokoto caliphate was not Osogbo war of 1840. It was the Alaafin Oluewu's war of 1830. This was not a war between Ilorin and Oyo...it was a war between Sokoto caliphate and Yorùbá nation in coalition with Baribas. Most of the powerful Yorùbá warrior kings and Warlords that would later prove their legends were involved in this war.
The Phalanx a coalition of vast soliders under the commands of Alaafin Oluewu, prince Atiba of Ago Oja (who would later be the next king after Oluewu), Baale of Ogbomoso, Onikoyi, Eleduwe (A king in one of the Bariba kingdoms) Jato(a general in the Borgu army whose earlier campaigns against the Futa jalon earned him a reputation). Baale of Iseyin and Baale of Saki. Kurumi of Ijaye also joined the ranks with his private militia (at this time,he was a provincial ruler).
They camped at a place called Otefan. The leaders of the expedition were Oluewu of Oyo and Eleduwe of Burgu. The Eleduwe trusted all the lesser generals. Under his command but Alaafin did not trust some of his, including of Ogbomoso and Onikoyi (Onikoyi had a long history of being controversial. He was one of the first provincial rulers of Oyo to pledge allegiance to the Emir of Ilorin)... Oluewu was careful not to put them in strategic sections in the military formations.
Sultan Belo of Sokoto (son of usman Dan Fodio) sent a much larger army of 17 warlords and their soldiers under the command of Esugoyi(ruler of the vassal state of Rabbah) to meet with much smaller army of the Emir of Ilorin. He hoped for victory in a decisive battle against Oyo and obsession to extend to the coast. The army he sent was so large that the coalition army of Oyo was outnumbered twelve to one.
Usual battle Phalanx of the southwest at the time was usually divided into three. A Phalanx stays at the center, one to the right and another to the left(this formation was usually followed religously during....that Lisabi of Egbaland used the positions to confer military titles in his militia. The Jaguna commanded the army at the center,Lukotun commanded the right flank and Lukosi commanded the left flank). In this battle,the Eleduwe fought at the center with his battle-hardened warriors.
Oluewu fought from the right and lesser rulers manned the Phalanx to the left. Eleduwe was the instant hero of the battle. As he suppressed the enemy from the center, he sent soldiers to fill the ranks on each sides at the same time to force the enemy Into the center. From the center, they greatly slaughtered the Fulani warriors and broke their ranks. They fled in different directions with the coalition army routing them as they fled and slaughtering them in thousands. As the Fulani nobles took to hero...they delegated horsemen to confront the enemies pursuing them to slow them down using the calvary advantage as they escaped. The victory was decisive but came with its casualties as well, Eleduwe lost his son in the war.
After this war,the Sokoto caliphate gave up on annexing Yorùbáland and the combats went back to tensions between Ilorin and Oyo.
Dogalmighty17: Mr Bruce is a sore embarrassment. Someone of his level of exposure knows that lie detector tests have long been panned and widely regarded as inaccurate. No court of law will admit the findings of a lie detector into record. Bruce knows this. He is just trying to pull wool over the eyes of Nigerians.
On the contrary, lie detector tests (Polygraph tests) can indeed be used in some U.S. States state criminal justice systems (under certain circumstances) although U.S. Federal courts do not permit them.
However, law enforcement agents in the United States use your statements done with Polygraph tests for preliminary investigations and these statements can be used against you.
aswani: Baba wabavan, with this we must slightly disagree.
Unless the news is manufactured on here and in other outlets, without a shadow of a doubt and in my humble opinion, there is something worrying about the levels of crime and criminality in both Ogun and Anambra states.
Incredibly, these two states have citizens that are not just well read, like somewhere like Ekiti for example, but also quite sophisticated.
Yet the fetishness, which exists in every state, and in Benin for example, used to alarmingly be on display from house to house, is through the roof.
Soludo seems to realise it has gotten out of hand and is thankfully going after it (in the event of which the level of the rot is on full display), Dapo Abiodun on the other hand is playing Nero.
We shouldn't look to sugarcoat things, those two states are outliers particularly compared to neighbouring states and there is no excuse.
My humble take sha
@aswani
There isn't any "sugarcoating" here. I particularly don't take nonsense and I say things the way they are when I know that things are going off course. I detest conjectures and like to deal with FACTS and credible evidence.
If you read my post again, the thrust of my post had to do with countering the disinformation by the guy I quoted on this thread and some paid ipob troll farms online that crimes in Ogun State are "worse" or on the SAME SCALE with the more vicious ones taking place for many years now at regular intervals in different locations in Anambra State such as the notorious Ihiala axis, Onitsha, Nnewi, Awka and more since the late 1990s right into the 2000s and beyond (when Anambra indigenes even stopped traveling to the East of Nigeria for end-of-year holidays for fear of being kidnapped for and chose to stay back in PH, Lagos, Kano, etc, to do their weddings and New Yam festivals) based off of intelligence and crime data available to me. Crimes that happened right into 2025 in Anambra were clearly stated in my post such as vicious kidnappings for ransom, murders (even after ransom payments were made), armed robberies, rapes, child trafficking, etc, aided by irresponsible spiritualist or Dibias who give them the fake confidence to dare the public.
For instance, in 2024, and this month of February 2025 for instance, kidnappers, armed robbers and murderers with direct Igbo origins from the South East (majorly from this same Anambra State to be precise) were arrested by the police in Ogun State as can be seen in the videos and major newspaper links directly BELOW. This ISN'T the first time that young Igbos from that part of Eastern Nigeria would engage in vicious acts of armed robberies, kidnappings for ransom, murders, ritual killings, human trafficking, baby factory gangs, the cancer-causing and highy toxic methamphetamine production in illegal labs within posh residential areas such as Victoria Garden City in Ajah, Satellite Town, Ajao Estate, etc, in the Western States of Nigeria (and other regions) right from the late 1990s but it spiked viciously from the early 2000s with them getting involved in petrol tanker hijackings, many luxury bus attacks along Lagos to Benin Express Way (especially around Ijebu Ode), traffic robberies, kidnappings for ransom of Ifesinachi Transport's wife at Maza Maza, Lagos in 2009 and others, several bank robberies in Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo States, cross-border robberies into Benin Republic and back while pretending to be legit Alaba International Market traders. Look, I can literally go on because I have all the "crime statistics" with the names of these young criminals from Igboland (Anambra especially) that migrated to Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo States, to engage in vicious crimes them some of them run back to the East of River Niger after committing crimes in the West of River Niger especially escalating from the early 2000s.
This group operates within Ijebu-Igbo and environs in Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state.
Two members of the gang, Chukwuma Bathlomew aged 40 and Igwe Sunday aged 42 were reportedly arrested and paraded last month while 31-year-old Ifeanyi Mathias, Anayo Simeon aged 28 and Ayo Adedayo, 46 were recently arrested.
So, I agree with you that drastic actions have to be taken in the annoying random Ogun State "killings" (which from security statistics are also perpetrated by non-Ogun State indigenes and migrant non-Yorubas from other states) and intel available to me shows that the intelligence agencies are surreptitiously working on these cases in order to take everybody involved down. The Governor of Ogun State may not be taking the route that the Anambra Governor is taking BUT he needs to also speak about it. I'm not aware of any video of him saying anything yet. Perhaps there is on the Ogun State Website. The Ogun State Commisioner of Justice is planning that the death penalty should be introduced though as seen in the video right BELOW:
Ogun State Mules Death Penalty To Stop Ritual Killings, Kidnapping
But I want to see the death penalty applied for these crimes through electric chairs and lethal injection and I have advocated for this since the late 1990s. If a person running for the position of a Governor doesn't want to sign the "death warrant," then he or she should NOT bother aspiring for that important political role. Adams Oshiomole is the ONLY Governor I know what ever signed the death warrant. Period.
Enjoy the rest of your week.
Cheers.
kushme: One funny thing with coin base. Fundamentals no straight forward, any influencial person can just say anything and whoop, everything go up then crash after few bullish candles. Currencies, indices, commodities and bonds don't work like that.
If you suffer from inferiority complex and think low of African leaders, cure yourself of the ignorance and low self esteem by watching the Aljazeera documentary on this Argentina President. Until I watched that documentary, I never knew Presidency in any nation can go that low. Even his dog was placed above his people in that documentary. You will be shocked to know that he is an economist o.smh.
PressMyButton: Prices of essential commodities like rice, flour, milk, beans, and spaghetti have crashed by over 40 per cent in Kano, following the Federal Government’s intervention.
The Chairman, of Singer Market, Junaidu Zakari, disclosed this while speaking to newsmen on Monday.
He explained that the government window gave importers opportunity to bring in some essential commodities like rice, cooking oil, and spaghetti, forcing the prices of commodities to reduce in Kano.
“There is no gainsaying that the credit truly must go to the Federal Government and indeed our marketers who adhered to the government policy of importing the stipulated commodities, making them available and resulting in the over 40 percent reduction of their prices,” he said.
Zakari noted that the removal of duties on about 43 items and the subsequent supplies of rice that were sold at N40,000 helped the marketers flood the markets .
He said rice, which was sold at about N120,000, now crashed to less than N80,000, and spaghetti which was sold at N20,000 is now selling at N14,000.
“Even flour that was sold at N90,000, is mow selling in the markets at about N70,000 while 50kg oil that was sold at almost a N100,000 is now selling at N70,000 while flour is now less than N70,000,” he added.
He said the problem they have is with sugar whose prices refused to come down but they are talking to the producers of Dangote and BUA sugar who are the major suppliers of the products.
Zakari also accused Master Bakers of refusing to reduce the prices of bread, though flour prices have been greatly reduced in all Kano markets.
“We have an association which engaged the Chairman of the Master Bakers but he told us that they can’t do otherwise because their association has only 20% of bread sellers while 80% are not their members, so they can’t control them,” he explained.
Heromaniaa: I did this while I was in Nigeria. I prepared a kid in year five for his Primary checkpoint English and his elder brother for his GCSE. And I often prepared others for IELTS. The pay was reasonable considering the exchange rate and it was even more affordable for the parents as they're not obligated to pay minimum wage. So it's a win win!
nlfpmod: Some Nigerians who live abroad now get lesson teachers for their kids from Nigeria to help boost their children's grades in school.
The lesson is done online via zoom.
What do you think about this kind of style?
It's been around for some years now (even before the ascendancy of Zoom during the global lock downs from 2021). Other facetime apps have been used for these sorts to teach kids in the Diaspora languages, and other basic courses in the STEM fields.
