🇸🇾 Syria's Bashar al-Assad and his family have arrived in Russia and have been granted asylum by the Russian authorities, 🇷🇺 Russian news agencies reported on Sunday, citing a Kremlin source.

The Interfax news agency quoted the unnamed source as saying: "President Assad of Syria has arrived in Moscow. Russia has granted them (him and his family) asylum on humanitarian grounds."
Even the Russian military involvement in Syria couldn't stop those insurgents from taking over Allepo and Syria in entirely while booting out Bashar al-Assad.

Newly re-elected president of Ghana Mahama visited Offa Kwara State where he grew up

Newly re-elected Ghanaian President John Mahama has disclosed his deep connection with Offa, Nigeria, where he now considers his second home.

The ex-Ghanaian leader made this revelation in a public event, a clip of which has gone viral on the internet.

Speaking about his Nigerian roots, Mahama explained, "My stepmother is Nigerian, who raised me. She comes from Ofa in Kwara State."

Mahama detailed his personal history, highlighting a period of exile during a coup in Ghana that led him to live with his stepmother in Offa.

"I had to come and stay with my stepmother for many years in Offa, so I know Offa quite well," he said.

The former president's connection with Offa has been recognised formally, as he was honoured with a chieftaincy title by the Olofa of Offa.

Mahama proudly shared, "I'm the Are Atolase of Ofa Kingdom."

This title signifies his esteemed role within the local community and reflects the deep bonds he has formed with the region.

Mahama's announcement underscores the strong personal and cultural ties he maintains with Nigeria, illustrating a unique aspect of his background and highlighting the cross-border connections that shape his identity.

Ghana's former President John Dramani Mahama has staged a political comeback by winning the West African nation's presidential election after his rival Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat on Sunday.

RhodaFa:
XEC COVID-19 Variant: Federal Government Confirms No Cases in Nigeria

By Lara Adejoro, Tosin Oyediran

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has clarified that there is no evidence of the strain of the newly detected COVID Variant XEC in Nigeria.

The assurance comes as the variant, first reported in Australia, spreads to 29 countries, raising alarms over its heightened virulence, PUNCH Online earlier reported that the FG warned.

In a press release issued on Saturday but dated Friday by the ministry’s Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, Alaba Balogun, the ministry addressed circulating misinformation about a supposed resurgence of COVID-19 in the country.

“The good news is that there is no evidence of COVID variant XEC in Nigeria,” the statement confirmed, urging the public to disregard rumours fuelled by a letter with reference number DHS/INSPDIV/017/VOL1/46, which has been widely shared online.

The ministry emphasised that the public should remain calm, adhere to universal health precautions, and rely on verified information from official sources.

“In light of the above, the general public is advised not to panic but to continue with the universal precautions of observing personal hygiene, including regular washing of hands,” Balogun stated.

To mitigate potential risks, the Federal Government has ramped up its preparedness across Federal Tertiary Hospitals and border entry points. These measures include establishing molecular laboratories, isolation centres, and intensive care units equipped with ventilators.

“The Federal Government has proactively upgraded our Federal Tertiary Hospitals to ensure uninterrupted healthcare delivery to all Nigerians in the event of a disease outbreak,” the release added.

The ministry has also intensified surveillance at Nigeria’s borders and entry points to detect and address any potential cases of the variant, reassuring Nigerians that proactive measures are in place to safeguard public health.

This statement stated that the announcement is a call for vigilance, not alarm, as Nigeria remains free of the new variant.

“Citizens are encouraged to continue their daily activities without disruption while prioritising hygiene and preventive health practices,” it concluded.

In November, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention advised the AU Member States to continue to enhance influenza-like illness and severe acute respiratory syndrome surveillance to monitor SARS-CoV-2 cases and emerging variants.

It said the XEC variant is a subvariant of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron strain and was first reported in May 2024. It is currently being monitored by the health authorities in other regions.

Africa CDC stated that XEC has been detected in 43 countries across Europe, Asia, and North America.

“In Africa, Botswana reported 1 XEC case from a hospitalised European traveller. However, there is limited testing and sequencing than before, making it difficult to know the spread of XEC variant in Africa,” it noted.

This life is quite complex.

A number of persons here reported getting negative feedbacks when they post their achievements in the social media.

For me, it has been the absolute opposite. Anytime I post about my successes, more seem to roll in. Thinking back now, I think that's my primary motivation behind posting my successes online.

It helps me strive to do more and not be complacent but most importantly I attract important clients and stakeholders who are eager to partner with me based on my skill set
True that.

Indeed, when the Nigerian-American, Dr. Julius Oni left his job at the Johns Hopkin University as a musculo-skeletal specialist in the United States and moved back to Nigeria a few months ago in 2024 after 25 years of living in the U.S., some posters online said he was "mad" for doing so. But this is a self-aware guy who already has real estate investments in Nigeria and took that conscious decision to move over to Nigeria with the full support of his wife to start his own specialist medical facility after selling his house in the United States. He still maintains professional ties with Johns Hopkin though.

I follow the brilliant Julius Oni (who is originally a native of Ile-Oluji in Ondo State and still in his 40s) on Instagram and the original video he posted on IG including subsequent videos went absolutely viral. Since then, he has had a lot of media engagements from media outlets who interviewed him and that gave him massive publicity and clients.

I was on a YouTube channel of one of the top media brands with over 1 million subscribers and another U.S.-based doctor of Nigerian descent posted a comment on the channel stating that he has been inspired by Dr. Julius Oni's "Reverse Japa" story and he too was already planning to give back to Nigeria by setting up a specialist medical facility in Nigeria. That's the power of putting yourself out there and telling a POWERFUL story that would be of benefit for all.

Posting your achievements on social media like vacation trips, graduation pics, Job promotion, dinner dates, eating out in luxury restaurant's and others.

Do you think it's a wise or foolish decision?

Give logical reasons.
This is an interesting thread.

Indeed, if it's extremely personal details such as your current locations whenever you embark on leisure travels, names and details of all your kids including where they school, etc, then don't post them online because of security concerns from potential stalkers, house burglers and hired assassins. Even some of your domestic staff can be a potential threat if adequate background checks are NOT carried out.

But for business-related matters, you just have to publicized yourself because publicity is KING. That's how folks get to know your brand around the world in whatever business niche you're into. You just have to enhance your business security by carrying out a comprehensive threat assessment and get security gadgets such as CCTV cameras, alarms, tracking devices, portable spy pens, and more.

Newlymarried:
A newlywed couple returning to the mainland from the Ikoyi Marriage Registry were amongst the 18 persons involved in a ghastly accident that occured on the Third Mainland Bridge, near Ilaje, heading towards Iyana Oworonsoki today December 7.

The accident, which involved a mini truck (AGL 22 YE) and a commercial LT bus (BFG 204 XF), was attributed to a brake failure on the LT bus, which was traveling at excessive speed. The bus collided with the mini truck, which was moving slowly due to mechanical difficulties.

A statement released by the spokesperson of the Lagos Traffic Management Agency LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, said a total of 16 passengers seated in the rear of the LT bus—11 women and 5 men—sustained significant injuries and were swiftly transported to the Lagos State Trauma and Emergency Centre near the Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for urgent medical care.

He said two additional passengers seated at the front of the LT commercial bus were trapped in the wreckage and suffered severe fractures to their limbs. He mentioned that they were extricated with the combined efforts of LASTMA personnel, emergency responders and concerned bystanders. These victims were later rushed to Gbagada General Hospital for specialized treatment.

Adebayo said the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASABUS) and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit (LRU) facilitated the swift evacuation of all casualties to medical facilities.

Law enforcement officers from Alonge Police Station and operatives of the Lagos State Task Force provided critical security support at the accident scene, ensuring order during the rescue operation.

Expressing deep sympathy for the injured, LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, wished them a speedy recovery. He also underscored the importance of observing speed limits and maintaining vehicles in optimal condition, particularly the braking system, to prevent such tragedies.

Bakare-Oki further highlighted the intensified public enlightenment campaigns led by LASTMA’s Female Elite Corps, which aim to educate motorists—especially commercial bus operators—on safe driving practices before, during and beyond the festive season.

I'm glad they survived this near-horrendous accident. It's a second chance to live life to the FULL and learn to show genuine empathy to others when needed. Thanks to the rescue team as well.

This brings back some memories for me. I've been involved in 2 major car tyre blow-outs/break failures back in the late 1990s on the Lagos-Benin Expressway while traveling from Lagos (just right after Sagamu), and the other was in the early 2000s and it was the expert manouverings by both drivers on each occasion in the speeding cars that prevented the vehicles from outrightly somersaulting and flinging everybody out of the vehicles or something WORSE. I was just calm and braced up for whatever was going to come on both occasions but fortunately we all came out safe.

Both drivers were NOT drunk on both occasions (contrary to the belief of some posters on page 1 of this thread that drivers consume all kinds of alcohols) because tyre blow-outs (and break failures) can indeed occur anytime especially if the pressures are not adequate. This is why regular checks are needed before all long trips (and even short trips). It was a back tyre blowout that occured in the vehicle (we were moving at over 100 kilometers an hour and had just overtaken a long haulage truck) I was traveling in back in the late 1990s, and if the driver (who was very calm and professional) had mistakenly STEPPED on the car break pedal due to the sudden loud explosion, we would have been toast. The back tyre was completely torn to shreds when the car came to a final hault. That driver was indeed a hero.

First off, I was already gearing up to respond to your mention. I appreciate your insightful feedback here as I'm a great lover of unique global cultures.

Second, indeed, with reference to your 3rd paragraph response, there's an uncanny similarity in your answer here with that of the Isoko people too. Before you mentioned it, I used to think it's only folks from that area who don't eat snails BUT I learned some unique insights from you about the snail eating taboo in your hometown. I checked online earlier today to read about the Isoko snail taboo and found out that non-indigenes can indeed rear snails and eat snails right in Isokoland BUT NOT the indigenes. It's indeed very important to learn more about the customs of people so as NOT to offend their sensibilities.

I ALSO strongly believe that since Urhobos and Isokos are related and have some Edoid roots, folks from your hometown in your part of Ukwuani definitely have direct Edoid ancestral connections going to the Benin-Edo area who split from the Isoko/Urhobo axis. Let your dad and mum know more about these similarities in the snail taboo culture and you'll be surprised that they'll both give you more insights.

NOW to the big one... YOU cracked me up when you refered to snails🐌 as "boneless, slime factories." cheesy grin It seems as if you ALSO CLEARLY won't like eating catfish because of the slippery slime. Tbh, when fully prepared, peppered snails (and catfish pepper soups) taste really awesome! It's just "unfortunate" that your folks don't eat snails because of the taboo, BUT then again, that centuries-old tradition has to be respected.

Let me tell you though, you can get EASILY get rid of snail slime and catfish slime with lime. Some folks use alum, while some use hot water. But lime gets to remove the slime and you're good to go.

Reality TV star and influencer Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has taken a bold step in closing a chapter of her past by removing a tattoo of Nigerian music superstar Davido from her chest. The tattoo, which sparked widespread conversations and admiration when she initially unveiled it, has now been erased through laser treatment. shocked

Tacha reportedly underwent the procedure at a top-notch laser clinic, sharing glimpses of the process on her social media pages. Fans and followers couldn’t help but speculate on her reasons, with some suggesting it symbolizes personal growth, while others think it’s a subtle way of moving on from old sentiments.

The tattoo, once a tribute to the award-winning singer, had been a defining element of her persona during her time in the limelight. Its removal has sparked mixed reactions among netizens. While some applauded her decision, others expressed nostalgia for the era it represented.

As the reality star continues to evolve, her fans remain curious about what prompted the decision. Tacha, however, seems unbothered by the chatter, confidently embracing the new chapter in her life.
As an intense lover of all forms of visual art, the "tat" that she has fortunately removed via laser treatment doesn't look aesthetically appealing to me. She did the right thing by removing it from her chest... Less is MORE.

So I made some tasty peppered goat meat before and forgot to list down the steps, and I have the easiest steps ever now for you to follow and make yours.

Asun is a roasted/grilled/smoked goat meat stir fried pepper sauce; this is one of Nigeria’s popular small chops commonly served at weddings, parties or birthday events.

There are different ways of roasting goat meat for Asun, you can roast goat meat in the oven, grill goat meat using charcoal pot, over bbq fire or you can cook your goat meat on the stovetop. If you have been looking for a simple way to make Asun (peppered goat meat) and maybe have no access to oven or grill, this platform is exactly where you get the easiest method.

You can now make your spicy peppered goat meat without stress. I also have a quick video on how to make this delicious delicacy. check it out too.

For ingredients I used

1. 1 kg of goat meat (with the skin on)
2. 6 scotch bonnet peppers or as desired
3. 2 red bell peppers
4. 3 green bell peppers
5. 2 medium onions
6. 3 goat meat seasoning cubes (Knorr cubes)
7. 3 cloves of garlic, optional
8. Cooking oil for frying of the meat
9. Salt to taste

Steps On How to prepare Tasty peppered goat meat ever

1. Season goat meat with chopped onions, salt, garlic, pepper, 1-2 goat seasonings cubes and mix to coat very well.
2. Cover and place the meat in the fridge to marinate for 40 minutes to absorb the seasoning.
3. Bring the meat out of the fridge and place in the pot to cook for few minutes without adding water to intensify the smoky flavour.
4. After 5 minutes, add a little water to cook the meat until it is tender and the liquid begins to dry.
5. Place a pan on heat and add cooking oil to it, add the meat to the oil and fry until they are golden. Remove from the oil and set aside.
6. If you are using the oven, place the meat in the oven rack and grill, turn it occasionally until it is light brown but not so dry.
7. Place another pan on heat, add about 2 tablespoons of oil to it, add the coarsely pounded pepper, chopped onions and stir-fry for 1 minute.
8. Season the pepper sauce with some goat meat seasoning, salt and stir- fry for 1 minutes till you perceive a nice fragrance.
9. Add the chopped red and green bell peppers to the sauce and stir-fry for 1 minute, if it appears dry, add about 3 tablespoons of the meat stock to adjust the consistency.
10. Return the grilled/fried goat meat to the sauce and stir until the meat is completely immersed in the pepper sauce. Garnish the meat with few slices of onion rings and cook for 2 minutes.
11. Asun is ready, serve warm or pair with fried plantain or jollof rice.

Daddy Freeze gives brilliant response to Pastor Adeboye's son, Leke Adeboye, after he advised Nigerians to go back to farming and stop asking the church for money.

Leke Adeboye, one of the sons of Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, advised Nigerians in a video to go back to farming to meet their needs and stop asking the church for financial assistance.

Leke said in the video that Nigerians have gone out of recession but now face famine and to combat this problem, he asked Nigerians to go back to farming and the era of trade by barter. Whatever they are able to produce on their farms, he asked them to use those farm produce in exchange for those things they need but don't have.

He also warned against people writing letters to the church begging for financial assistance when they could have saved to avoid lack.

In reply, Freeze reminded him that charity begins at home and asked him why his father's church hasn't started collecting tithes and offering in grains and cattle like it was originally intended in the Bible.

Freeze wrote:
@lekeadeboye, how are you and how is your daddy? Tell him I send my utmost regards and kind considerations.
-
You are making a lot of sense with this trade by batter suggestion, but let me ask you this, does your dad pay his private jet pilots with cassava or rice? Does he exchange garri for aviation fuel?
-
Charity they say begins at home, why not start by collecting tithes and offering in grains and cattle like it was originally intended in the Bible?
-
The ‘jokers’ you mentioned so respectfully, could go to one of the numerous redeemed schools littered across Nigeria, can’t they? This shouldn’t be rocket science.
-
You speak of money ‘saved’. I ask from where precisely? Through what means was this money ‘earned’?
-
Do accept my kind regards to yourself and Pastor E. A. Adeboye, your father.

But regarding his lifestyle as stated it will be un-Nigerian of him not to show off and throw his weight around and be grandiose. It’s that annoying Nigerian trait that is ever so ubiquitous. Davido exhibits the same trait hence why they are blossom buddies. Bunch of narcissistic weirdos 🥴🥴🤣🤣
I hope you're doing OK my bro?

It's interesting that as a UK citizen, you didn't know Tobi before now. I first heard of him sometime during the COVID-19 lockdowns when Ifedayo "Freeze" Olarinde (whose medical doctor father is from Osun State and lawyer mother is from Romania) talked about him and interviewed him from London.

I follow "Freeze," Tobi, Obi Cubana and a host of other prominent business, investment, travel and lifestyle folks of Nigerian descent (Diasporans or not) on Instagram, so, I get to regularly see their videos and posts. Just in November 2024, Freeze, Obi Cubana, Davido, etc, all posted videos and group pictures they took with Tobi in London at a celeb party on IG. NO doubt, Tobi is well connected to a lot of celebs and this is why he has been able to quickly raise £1 million to take care of his court appeal. Davido is actually his friend and a member of his Church, while Freeze and others are either his friends or acquaintances.

The obviously annoying thing about the 44-year-old Tobi is the cockiness he exhibits which meshes with the emphasis in your post about the "show-offs" and "grandiose" behavior. Davido himself smokes "Igbo" the smell of which I can't even stand as a man NOT to talk of smoking it. There's recreational marijuana which is certified and distinct for the management of the tremors in Parkinson's disease and other neurological disorders, BUT smoking "Igbo" for a young singer like Davido in that Tayo Aina travel documentary is on another level entirely. Smoking weed does have long-term mental effects based off of credible medical and scientific research that are in the public domain

Enjoy your day Sukkot.

Ciao.

This 44-year-old guy is obviously adamant about staying on in London. 'Tobi brought this upon himself with his sometimes garrulous nature and should NEVER have led an extravagant lifestyle in the United Kingdom (England) where you will instantly draw the attention of the regulatory authorities, the media, and even envious people.

Since he still has a right of appeal, let's see how it pans out. If he ends up losing his appeal, then he can go back to Nigeria and join his father who I hear is a well-respected General Overseer of SPAC in Ibadan OR move to Eko Atlantic City, on Victoria Island to continue his so-called hyped up version of SPAC.

It's indeed stunning that a First-Class Uni graduate of Law can allow a mix of religion and extravagant lifestyle to turn him into this quagmire. It's even obvious to discerning folks that Tobi Adegboyega (who is a first cousin to British-born John Boyega the Hollywood star) has a personality flaw in his psychological make-up and needs to see a shrink in order to regain a balanced perspective of life.
Christianity EtcRe: Why Pastor Tobi Adegboyega's Deportation Was Approved — UK Judges by Konquest:
dre11:
New details have emerged on why the United Kingdom immigration upper tribunal approved the deportation of Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, founder of Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church, commonly known as SPAC Nation.

The 44-year-old pastor, who arrived in the UK on a visitor’s visa in 2005 but did not leave when it expired, had sought to remain in the European country on human rights grounds. He had married a British citizen.

After the Home Office denied his request, he appealed to the first-tier tribunal, which equally turned him down.

Subsequently, he appealed to the upper tribunal on August 15, 2022.

The controversial pastor, through his lawyer, Dele Olawanle, told the tribunal that his church had initiated various intervention programmes to rescue troubled youths on the streets of the UK from gangs and crime.

Adegboyega also argued that his deportation would harm his projects and community influence, which he claimed had been supported and recognised by prominent UK figures, including former Prime Minister Boris Johnson and senior figures within the Metropolitan Police.

He also claimed that he had played an instrumental role in setting up a food bank which had provided 136,000 meals for children, adding that he “intervened in the lives of many hundreds of young people, predominantly from the black communities in London, to lead them away from trouble”.

Adegboyega added that he established a network of safe houses throughout London where he accommodated young people trying to avoid gang conflicts.

But the upper tribunal judges, Bruce and Rastogi, insisted that Adegboyega must return to Nigeria despite his arguments.

In the judgement document obtained by Saturday PUNCH, the court rejected Adegboyega’s appeals, citing his unlawful stay in the UK and exaggeration of his community work claims.

The tribunal ruled that Adegboyega had “grossly inflated” his contributions, describing his claims as “hyperbolic” and unsupported by substantive evidence.

The court noted that the pastor failed to provide corroborative evidence that the UK police endorsed and supported his works.

The court insisted that his work could continue without his presence in the UK and dismissed his marriage to a British citizen as insufficient to counterbalance his immigration violations.

“We do, however, note the absence of corroborative evidence in respect of the most prominent agencies that the appellant (Adegboyega) claims as his supporters.

“There was nothing before us from the Metropolitan Police, Downing Street, the Mayor of London or the Home Office, all institutions which the appellant claims to have enthusiastically endorsed his work,” the court affirmed.

“For instance, there was nothing at all to support his assertions that his presence in London is needed to ‘calm the nerves of people from ethnic minorities’ following the ‘fascist uprising’ of August 2024, or that his presence is an ‘absolute necessity’ to fighting crime. There was no corroboration for his claim to have visited Downing Street on ‘countless occasions’. These are examples of areas of the appellant’s evidence where we are satisfied that he has sought to grossly inflate his influence.

“When we asked him to describe an average day, the appellant told us that he schedules six church events per day, seven days a week. These can be all over London. He visits as many as 20 congregants per week in their own homes, and is often called upon to spend between 3-4 hours talking on a one-to-one basis to a troubled young person. He also told us about the time that he spends supervising and helping some of the many business ventures, or ‘CIC’s set up with SPAC Nation’s help, and to organising the foodbank. Even allowing for his admission that sometimes this packed itinerary causes him to run late, we find it to be implausible that he has the time to undertake all of this work personally. We consider it far more likely that this work is distributed among the many pastors, congregants and supporters of SPAC Nation.”

I depend solely on my wife

Earlier, Adegboyega told the court that he had always depended on his wife, Mary.

“He states that he lives with his partner, Mary Olubukola Alade, who earns £100,000 per year working for AON. He spends his time working for the church, for which he is unpaid. He is entirely supported by Mary.

“He has a first-class law degree from Nigeria but he has ‘sacrificed’ his legal career to help those who cannot help themselves,” the court heard.

Adegboyega also told the tribunal why he flaunted an extravagant lifestyle.

“For instance, people have pointed to the fact that he wears designer clothing and drives expensive cars. He was adamant that all of his personal possessions have been paid for by Mary. He has never taken a penny from the church. He believes that it is important for him to dress the way that he does because he needs to inspire these young people – they need to understand that there are legitimate ways of making money, for instance through entrepreneurship.”

Known for his flamboyant lifestyle, the self-styled pastor has long been at the centre of controversies involving alleged financial misconduct and a lavish lifestyle that have drawn criticism.

The British Broadcasting Corporation released a documentary detailing how Adegboyega, popularly known as PT among his followers, allegedly defrauded his church members in the guise of helping them create their own businesses.

In the documentary, victims claimed that they were “brainwashed” into believing their financial sacrifices would fund community programmes to rescue troubled youths on the streets of UK from gangs and crime, only to find the money allegedly misappropriated to support the pastor’s lavish lifestyle, including designer wardrobes and luxury cars.

But Pastor Tobi did not face any criminal proceedings neither was he convicted of any crime.

The celebrity pastor threw a lavish birthday party in November. The party was attended by popular Nigerian artistes, including Davido and Kcee.

“Let us just have fun as one family tonight and if I get into trouble like I do most times, my lawyer is there right on my table, so nothing can touch me”, Adegboyega said to the cheering audience.

The cleric, who is usually seen in the company of celebrities displaying an affluent and opulent lifestyle, became enmeshed in a scandal when the UK Charity Commission and High Court investigations revealed financial impropriety involving over £1.87m, leading to the closure of his church in 2022.

Responding to the latest ruling on his immigration status on Instagram, Adegboyega dismissed the allegations, insisting that no amount of persecution would bring him down.

He said, “I’m right here at home, no cause for alarm. Naturally, I will dismiss things that have to do with retrogression; every Nigerian should be proud of me. Living in the UK, a city that is well known for pulling people down, I have survived all sorts, so the matter that they are propagating is the smallest matter.

“No panic, I love London city, it is my city and nobody can do anything. Of all the people of colour you know here – pastors and leaders, I have survived everything.

“I’m here, I am at home, nobody should panic for me. I succeeded well in this country despite all challenges and I’m in the league of people you look up to. I have survived that well, nothing has changed, nothing will change.

“I’m here, number one in London City and nothing is going to bring us down.”

Few hours later, another video of Adegboyega surfaced online showing him dancing with others.

He claimed his companies had raised over £1m since the news of his deportation surfaced.

“They have raised over £1m in 24 hours since yesterday’s news. This is a blessing I couldn’t see coming,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, Adegboyega still has an option of appealing the upper tribunal judgement at the Court of Appeal of England and Wales.

According to the UK Home Office, he must file the appeal within 28 days of being given permission to do so by the upper tribunal.

It seems only elders bother about knowing the origins of certain cultural practices. Food is normally spiced for taste, so if the butter beans which ordinarily should be prepared with salt and other ingredients is left tasteless, there must be a reason for it because in this same thread someone said butter beans is delicious when cooked.

For example, in my hometown, eating snails are forbidden. I have never eaten snails and will never eat them. When I asked my parents the origin of this practice, even they could not give me a concrete answer. They were only certain of the repercussions of breaking the taboo, but could not tell me the history of that taboo. I am still hoping I can meet someone who can transmit the oral history to me.
@Ishilove, I was about logging off when I saw your brilliant mention. What you posted here is really fascinating! You know why? It brought back some memories for me.

First off, 2 different guys on this thread (whose family members got married to Eggon women) actually said the butter beans is tasteless. I didn't notice the post of anybody who said it's tasty while rapidly scanning the thread posts. I'll check/read the thread pages again.

So back to the escargot taboo story, I met a young lady slightly over 25 years ago (she was then a freshman in a Nigerian Uni) who was fluent in Yoruba language because she was born in Lagos State and hailed from Isokoland (Ozoro to be precise) in Delta State and she told me the EXACT thing you posted right here that in her place in Isokoland, they do NOT eat snails, and I raised my eyebrows in disbelief!

I actually love global history, and I study cultures and taste local cuisines while traveling from time to time.

It's REALLY amazing that your town folks in Ukwuani ALSO have the same culture with the Isokos of NOT eating snails. It seems you guys might be ancestrally related since Isokoland and Ukwuani share boundaries. There MUST have been a common OR shared ancestry then with outward migration of folks still carrying the taboo of NOT eating snails along with them. That's my strong hypothesis here based on historical trends in human migration going back to hundreds of years.

I did ask her WHY snails are forbidden in Isokoland (Ozoro) and she said something about the "snails coming to the rescue of their ancestors from danger" centuries ago.

But on another note, I'm a lover of snails (peppered snails) from time to time with my refreshing malt drinks... They go pretty well with the taste buds. You are missing out Ishi. cheesy

Last but not least, in your Ukwuani culture, if you DON'T eat snails BUT your man (spouse does) would that have a negative metaphysical effect down the road on your relationship?

You're very correct.

My brother married an Eggon woman.
Those basins of beans that you're seeing there are so tasteless as if they didn't use any spice to cook them.

We couldn't eat it honestly.

My brother married the first daughter, so they collected one big pig, too.
Whoa! So, it's true afterall. Tasteless butter beans... NOT even salt was added? It's such a fascinating culture though and it would be nice to find out why they do that (i.e., eating tasteless butter beans).

I remember attending one Eggon traditional marriage. Only thing served is this beans, cooked with plenty of oil, sparse ingredients, tasteless. So tasteless that we abandoned it and ate only mangoes which they had in abundance.
That's an incredible thing to do... Serving tasteless butter beans to wedding guests.

Mixed reactions trail fixed bride price of N5000 and four basins of cooked butter beans for Eggon women in Nasarawa state

Mixed reactions have continued to trail the harmonised bride price of the people of Eggon ethnic group in Nasarawa State.

The Aren Eggon, HRH Justice Ahmed Ubangari Alaku (Rtd) pegged N5,000 as the bride price with four basins of traditional butter beans known as Ebyekpyen as the maximum requirements to be met by the groom in order to marry an Eggon lady.

Aren Eggon, who is the paramount ruler of the Eggon people worldwide, made the pronouncement on May 25, 2024, at his palace in Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area.

The royal father explained that the action was in response to the outcry from many quarters, complaining about the exorbitant requirements often placed on young men intending to marry
Eggon ladies.

“We thank Almighty God for what has happened today about these two events; the issue of bride price in Eggon land and the little crises that have affected our growing children. These two issues have been pending for a long time and I am particularly happy that what has been bothering our local communities has come, particularly the issue of bride price in Eggon land. And I am sure you have seen the reaction from the crowd,"
he said.

"It is an issue that has been affecting the youth, both the female and male alike. You see them littering around because they cannot pay the dowries. So exorbitant. During our days, if I should
tell you how much I paid my father-in-law, you will be shocked

“And we don’t want these children to remain at home. Let them marry in good time so they can bring children in good time. It is not good to wait till when you are 50 (years old) before you get married and he starts producing children. By the time these children are growing, he is also getting older. The training will not be there. I think that is the essence of what we have done. Train these children in good time so they can become
good citizens.

“I told them I have done my own. What is left is for the parents of the children. If they go by this, the happier the lots of all of us. If they refuse it, the children will remain at home with them, which is the problem we are trying to avoid. I am now using this opportunity to call on to them to abide by this conventional agreement which has been reached this morning so that it becomes something for the good of Eggon land," the traditional ruler
added.

The presentation of the butter bean is very significant as it validates the marriage between the two couples.

The bride's family accepts or rejects the butter beans from the groom's family as a sign of their approval or disapproval of the marriage.
The butter bean is specially prepared with Beni seed and lots of palm oil that can be seen on the surface.

In a Facebook post on Friday, December 6, some people expressed their approval of the fixed bride price while others insisted that the requirements are still too high.

PoliticsRe: NNPC Plans To Reduce Methane Emissions By 60% by Konquest: 11:42pm On Dec 06, 2024
seunowa:
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing methane emissions in the oil and gas sector by 60% by 2031, with an overarching goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.

According to the NNPC on its X platform, this is a bold step towards combating climate change, which aligns with the nation’s leadership role in Africa under the Global Methane Pledge initiative.

Speaking on Thursday, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari, highlighted ongoing efforts to meet these targets during a meeting with the U.S. State Department’s Global Methane Program Manager, Robert Leahman, and a team from Deloitte.

“Reducing methane emissions is not just an environmental necessity but also a strategic imperative for Nigeria’s energy transition. We are leveraging partnerships to adopt global best practices and innovative solutions,” Kyari stated during a meeting at the NNPC Towers in Abuja.

The meeting centred on collaborative methane abatement initiatives, including a pilot project in the Niger Delta. The project aims to establish emissions baselines, mitigate methane leaks, and promote sustainable practices across Nigeria’s energy operations
Leahman commended Nigeria’s proactive approach, emphasising the global impact of such efforts.

“Nigeria’s leadership under the Global Methane Pledge sets a standard for the continent. These initiatives will not only help reduce emissions but also drive sustainable development in the energy sector,” he noted.
