Foreign AffairsRe: BRICS Moving Away From The De-dollarization Agenda by Konquest:
jUeLiZ:
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin proudly displayed a mock-up currency bill at the 16th summit in Kazan this year. The BRICS alliance clarified that the banknote is unofficial and was only a display presented by Putin. The theatrics of a BRICS currency followed Russia’s de-dollarization agenda to evade sanctions.

However, the de-dollarization agenda has no takers even among the existing BRICS members. Countries like India, South Africa, and Brazil are slowly taking a step back as the dust settles after the summit. Only desperate countries like Russia, China, and Iran are advancing de-dollarization
using BRICS as a stepping stone.

No serious development about launching a new BRICS currency is taking shape within the bloc. The formation of a BRICS currency is consensus-based and needs the approval of all members before taking shape. India has distanced itself from the de-dollarization agenda despite being a member of the BRICS alliance.

India needs the US dollar to survive, as without it, its goal of becoming the third-largest economy will stall. The Indian economy is closely tied to businesses in the US for the IT sector, not other BRICS countries. The de-dollarization initiative pushed by BRICS members Russia and China will only hamper India’s economy and businesses.

China and Russia are only using the BRICS bloc to further their agenda of global financial domination. Even Iran has joined the bandwagon as its economy is battered by US sanctions. While BRICS de-dollarization is growing slowly, it has now become a ‘one step forward and two steps back’ type of approach.

The steps to de-dollarization are long and hard and without unity from the members, it will remain a distant dream. The US dollar has more benefits than other currencies as it can sustain the harsh yet competitive currency matkets.

femisplash:
The Federal Government has commenced a free Compressed Natural Gas bus service in Abuja to ease transportation costs for Nigerians in the capital city.

The CNG buses began operations on December 2, 2024, as shown in a video shared by the Presidential CNG Initiative on its social media page.

The buses, according to reports, will run along popular routes from suburbs in Abuja such as Mararaba to Eagle Square and Berger bus stop.
The government had said that the buses would convey passengers free of charge for the next 40 days. The free bus ride will end on January 6, 2025.

Last week, the government, through the Ministry of Transportation, handed over 15 Compressed Natural Gas-powered buses to three transport unions to ease the high cost of transportation in the capital city.

The transport unions that benefitted from the gesture include the National Road Transport Workers Union, the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria.

In a video obtained by our correspondent on Monday, commuters who benefitted from the program commended the government initiative to reduce the costs of transportation.

One of the respondents, Fatima, said, “I just boarded a CNG bus going to Maraba, and we were asked not to pay, and I didn’t pay. I hope it will continue for long.

“I like it very much; I know this is the beginning of good things that will happen to Nigerian people.”

Another respondent, Blessing, said, “If they’re doing like this, we’ll be happy. After this one now, let them bring down the price. That’s why I said after this one they should.”

She wouldn't have joined it for a GreenCard but she could have joined it to facilitate her citizenship and further widen her opportunities of getting outstanding jobs as a veteran.

GREENCARD is now a mandatory requirement for enlistment in the United States Army.
It wasn't like this before. Before, even students could get enlisted and move up the ladder to becoming GreenCard holders, then citizens.
True that.

What an interesting time in west Africa
What a shame for Nigeria to be romancing France
While it's a historical FACT that Colonial France was even more ruthless in her former colonies in Africa and elsewhere than the British Colonialists were in the former British colonies, I don't see anything wrong in Nigeria maintaining diplomatic and business ties with modern France (and indeed other forward-thinking countries of the world) because NO country can stand in isolation.

This is the reason why the regular "France-Nigeria Business Council" meetings exist and that led to the top business leaders from Nigeria visiting France last week alongside the current Nigerian President to sign several business agreements. Nigeria was France's top trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa in 2023, with bilateral commerce worth over $5 billion, based on data from the French Customs Authority.

Despite the support of Charles de Gaulle of France for the badly organized secessionist rebel side during the exactly 2 years and 6 months Nigerian Civil War from July 1967 to January 1970, France quickly aligned with Nigeria and several French conglomerates moved to partner with Nigeria for the purpose of industrialization, such as Peugeot Automobile Nigeria based in Kakuri Industrial Estate, Kaduna in 1972, CFAO and more.

The distancing by some of the former French colonies from the French military presence and military bases has more to do with PRIDE and the quest for sovereignty, and it's their prerogative to do so. Nothing more.

However, there's a current severe security problem in the West Africa Sahel region with regards to Al-Qaeda affiliated jihadist terror groups such a as JNIM and others who have taken over large swaths of territories ever since the French were expelled and the Russians got involved in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger Republic. More than half of Mali and Burkina Faso have fallen into the hands of these jihadists and once the capital cities fall, you can be sure that Northern Ghana, Benin Republic, Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal and even Northern Nigeria will be further destabilized.

The military coups in Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso haven't helped either. These naive young military coupists thought Russian involvement in helping them would work but things have grown WORSE security-wise.

These former French colonies need to put their pride aside and work with other Western countries such as the United States, ECOWAS and AU because the original belief in Russian military assistance has FAILED woefully because Russia is distracted by it's war with Ukraine and we can see that the Russian involvement in Syria with the help given to Assad had suffered a setback with Aleppo in Syria falling back into the hands of the rebels as of last week.

I posted recent video reports on my thread earlier on this jihadist terror groups operating freely in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger Republic and I have attached them BELOW again.

IyanAtiEgusi:
France imposed conditions on its colonies before granting them independence, particularly in Africa. These agreements, often referred to as the “Colonial Pact,” established France’s control over various aspects of the newly independent nations. While the specifics varied by country, the general conditions included:

1. Monetary Control: Colonies had to adopt the CFA franc, with reserves controlled by the French Treasury.
2. Military Presence: France maintained military bases and could intervene militarily.
3. Economic Dependency: Colonies were required to prioritize trade with France, restricting access to other markets.
4. Natural Resource Exploitation: France retained control over key resources like oil, gas, and minerals.
5. Education System: The French education system and language were maintained to influence culture and governance.
6. Exclusive Trade Agreements: Former colonies could only import and export goods through France.
7. Tax Obligations: A portion of national revenue was remitted to France.
8. Defense Agreements: France controlled defense policies and decision-making in case of threats.
9. French Contractors: Public contracts were awarded primarily to French companies.
10. French Control over Currency Printing: The CFA franc could only be printed in France.
11. Customs and Tariff Policies: France dictated import/export tariffs.
12. Intellectual Property Control: Patents and knowledge rights were often retained by France.
13. Political Alliance: Colonies aligned with France in international politics.
14. Permanent French Advisors: Key ministries, such as defense, finance, and education, had French advisors embedded.

These conditions ensured France’s continued economic and political dominance over its former colonies, creating a system often criticized as “neocolonialism.”

Copied cool
Indeed... These are largely historical FACTS about Colonial France's largely ruthless, one-sided experience in relating with her former colonies around the world.

Modern France is doing a self-reappraisal and hopefully they can find a way of working in harmony or mutual respect with those former colonies and other countries.
Foreign AffairsRe: Senegal & Chad Order French Troops Out Of Their Country (Photos) by Konquest: 4:04pm On Dec 03, 2024
Chad's government abruptly ended a defense cooperation agreement with former colonial power 🇫🇷 France, issuing the unexpected announcement just a few hours after a meeting of the foreign ministers of the two countries.

"After 66 years since the independence of the Republic of Chad, it is time for Chad to assert its full sovereignty, and to redefine its strategic partnerships according to national priorities," Chad's Foreign Minister Abderaman Koulamallah said in a statement late Thursday.

"This decision, taken after in-depth analysis, marks a historic turning point," he said.

The announcement came just hours after Koulamallah met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot in Chad's capital N'Djamena. Koulamallah said that the meeting took place without incident.

The French government has yet to comment.

Chad's decision will require French troops around a thousand are reportedly stationed there to leave the landlocked Central African country. Chad is the latest nation asking France to withdraw its forces, after Paris was forced to pull its military out of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger following military coups.

Just a few hours earlier, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye said France should close its military bases in his country.

Faye said French President Emmanuel Macron had admitted for the first time that France was responsible for a massacre of Senegalese soldiers in 1944, as the country prepares to mark the 80th anniversary of the slaughter on Sunday.

"Senegal is an independent country; it is a sovereign country and sovereignty does not accept the presence of military bases in a sovereign country,” said Faye.

The comments from Chad and Senegal come against a backdrop of Russia's ambitions to expand its foothold on the African continent — and amid political instability.

Both Chad and Senegal reiterated that the situations in their countries are different from Niger, and their decisions do not represent a break from France.

France's foreign ministry did not immediately reply to a request for a comment.

Yeah. Steel recognize steel for sure. ..

The battle raps between LL and Kool Moe Dee kept me spell bound from 1987 till LL ended it all with MAMA SAID KNOCK U OUT (1990).

LL was just too smooth. My best from LL was I NEED A ROUND AWAY GIRL.

I was also locked in by DOUG E FRESH at some point in the 80's.

1990 came with Pete Rock & CL Smooth.

Rap was pure Creativity&delivery at its finest.
That's mad cool... "STEEL recognizes STEEL." This brings back a lot of nostalgia.

Indeed, those of us who were born within the lower-end Baby Boomers and Gen X who witnessed the early roaring years of rap and hip-hop history from the early 1980s right into the 1990s till this moment (2020s) are the real MVPs who have a BETTER perspective about who the all-time BEST rappers are. Without listing LL Cool J, Kool Moe Dee, Kurtis Blow, Pete Rock, and other OGs, you can tell that MOST posters on this thread have limited understanding of the full force of rap and hip-hop history. A top 30 list CANNOT even do justice to the BEST, all-time rappers. A top 50 would be the minimum.

Kool Moe Dee listed his top 50 all-time BEST rappers (male and female) in his 2003 book There's a God on the Mic: The True 50 Greatest MCs without MC Hammer being on that list though. For me, "Hammer" being a world-class entertainer and hip-hop artiste is in my top 10 all-time for his deft, muscular stage performances and I felt he was underrated by Kool Moe Dee in that book.

I earlier posted on page 7 of this thread the LL COOL J - "Around The Way Girl" (Official Music Video). The Lisas, Angelas, Pamelas, Renees, and more absolutely loved the music track back then. Just clean, topical lyrical flows... No cussing. That's what makes LL my best all-time till date.

Good to see we're bout on the same page. Islamic terrorism's a blight on society, and it's high time the world came together to stamp it out.

We can't let these extremists spread their toxic ideology and wreak havoc on innocent lives.
Indeed, those criminals hiding under lame Wahhabism and/or radical Shiite piety are sick people that do NOT deserve any space on earth in the grand scheme of things. Recently, the "British patriots" have gone full throttle on many occasions by ensuring that they monitor and disrupt any open air public preachings and incitements by radical Islamists in the UK who they say are trying to destroy the United Kingdom. These guys have been sussed out already by normal thinking people worldwide who are tired of them hiding under religion to perpetrate the WORSE kinds of disgusting evil (such as taking women prisoners of war, impregnating them and turning them to their wives whether in Syria or Somalia or West Africa!)

Someone up there is asking the US to get involved in Africa. When the US does get involved, you lot start spinning the narrative, saying they're just trying to recolonize Africa and sponsor terrorism.

Look, you folks got to stop crying to the US about every little thing. You've got the Russians hanging about in some parts of Africa, but, they're about as useful as a chocolate teapot.
Under their watch, you've got terrorists and other groups set up shop. You can't have it both ways. You can't hate on the West, bring in the Russians, and then expect them(USA) to sort out all your problems.

The US is a global superpower for a reason. It's not just about propaganda and anti-West policies. It takes planning, years of military building, and a solid strategy. The Russians just can't compete with that.

Remember when I said it months ago, without the US and its allies, Africa's gonna be a breeding ground for terrorist groups. Russia's just toothless, can't do squat to stop these terrorists!
It's the United States that's raising a major alarm right here and they know FULL well the dangers of having this insurgency spreading further beyond Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger Republic. As the U.S. Intelligence CLEARLY states, a major jihadist caliphate in the Sahelian region of West Africa would be deadly to the security of Europe and direct deadly terror attacks on United States' soil can also be easily launched from West Africa. So, it's ONLY a matter of time before the United States will get involved again with the support of ECOWAS and the AU. I'm NOT the one calling for the U.S. involvement, it's the U.S. who are concerned about their own safety and that of Europe and West Africa, so, this is a big deal.

I've got years of knowledge in "intelligence analysis." You seem to be implying (wrongly) in your post here that this thread was started by someone who blames the U.S. for her involvements in curbing global terror. Far from it, I have believed for decades now that the United States (alongside her allies) is an integral part of the equation in solving the terrorism situation around the world along with others. It's NOT been smooth sailing BECAUSE countries like to be politically correct by not applying maximum force while speaking of human rights, BUT it's time to go full throttle by using deadlier weapons against these criminals who clearly do NOT want world peace. It's just a matter for the U.S. (and her allies) to CLEARLY articulate their military objectives to the media and the global public to avoid WRONG interpretations of any future military actions in the fight against Islamist insurgencies in West Africa or elsewhere. Period.
Foreign AffairsRe: "US Warns Of ISIS Rising In West Africa | Vantage With Palki Sharma" by Konquest(op):
If this situation escalates to the point that more territories are taken over by these criminal jihadist terror groups represented by JNIM and other ISIS-related gangs leading to the fall of the capitals of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, then the Northern parts of Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Benin, Togo, and Indeed West Africa would become fully destabilized.
The refugees from Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso would come flooding in torrents into Nigeria and put pressure on resources.

Those of us who have observed the optics on the jihadist terror gains since Russian military personnel were invited have been vindicated!

The Russian presence ONLY gave false hopes to these young military coupists while Mali and Burkina Faso have since LOST more than half of their territories to the Islamists since the coups took place.

The Russians have been distracted by the Russian-Ukraine War, so, do NOT have the time for fuller involvements in curbing the cancerous jihadi terror attacks and territorial gains in the Sahelian region of West Africa.

The warning by the United States intelligence agencies CLEARLY shows how dire the situation in the West African Sahel is.

US counterterrorism officials have flagged a new terror threat.
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, may be rearing its ugly head again. It may return with a new caliphate. But this time, the location might be in West Africa.

The Sahel region is a terror hotspot. Countries like Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger have been dealing with Al Qaeda and the Islamic State for about a decade. And these terror groups are steadily making gains. American officials fear that they could capture territory and use it to launch attacks on Europe and even the US mainland.

At least 50 women were abducted by Islamic extremists in Burkina Faso’s northern Sahel region last week, a local official said Monday.

The kidnappings occurred January 12 and 13, 2023 approximately 15 kilometers (9 miles) from the town of Arbinda in Soum province, Lt. Col. P.F. Rodolphe Sorgho, the governor of Sahel, said in a statement.

The women were kidnapped while in the countryside gathering wild fruit, he said.

Jihadi violence linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group has overrun Burkina Faso, killing thousands and displacing nearly 2 million people in the West African nation. The failure of successive governments to stop the fighting has caused widespread discontent and triggered two military coups in 2022, the second against the first military regime to seize power.

TravelRe: I’m Scared Of Returning Home, Nigeria’s Failed Heathcare Killed My Mum– US-Based by Konquest: 3:22am On Dec 03, 2024
Morbeta11:
I’m scared of returning home, Nigeria’s failed heathcare killed my mum – US-based

President of the Bini Club of Houston, United States, Lydia Aguebor, speaks with BIODUN BUSARI on her struggles in search for greener pastures, community leadership in Houston, and why she is scared of returning to Nigeria because of the way her mother died

How will you describe your stay in the US?

I’m a mother of three beautiful children in the US. I relocated to America in 2005. When I first settled here, it was quite challenging because I left my comfort zone to come to a land where I knew nobody. Settling here came with its challenges. I came here to start from scratch. It was a lot of battles. Basically, it was tough for me in terms of job search and career. I studied Law at the University of Benin. And being in the US requires you to have licences for the things you do.

What kind of challenges did you experience?

There were only menial jobs to do in the beginning. Even, there were jobs that I didn’t get because of overqualification. When I submitted copies of my resume to some places, they would tell me I was overqualified for the job. They called it a college degree here, and I was asked to lower my qualifications. I had to do it because I needed jobs to make money. After all, bills were mounting. I started working with a fast food outlet where chickens were sold. I did that for a year. Then I worked for the State of Texas for eight years. Then, I began working on my papers. I wasn’t really happy with what I was doing. Later, I decided to start my business.

You said you didn’t like some of the things you did at scratch. What were they?

When I worked as a cashier or more or less of an attendant at a fast-food outlet, I would pass the money to another person in the inner lobby who would bring the order for me to give to the customers. I also worked as a cashier at a place called Target like a grocery store. It could be likened to ShopRite in Nigeria.

Why did you leave Nigeria in 2005?

I never worked before leaving Nigeria. I was a full-time housewife. I started coming to the US in 2002 when I was a law student at the University of Benin. Anytime I came to the US, I just loved it and dreamed of settling there. So, I came here in search of greener pastures.

What kind of business did you venture into?

I started a legal business. It started in my living room. The company was about helping people file their travel and immigration documents. When my client base was increasing, I moved on to get a place. I still couldn’t afford an office for myself. I had to pair up with someone. I only just had a chair, desk, and printer in that office. I started my business in June 2014.

What factors contributed to your business growth in the US?

The whole factor was narrowed down to the clients in my community. I knew the people I wanted to render services to. I did the feasibility study to know the kind of people to attract to my business. I started giving out fliers. My clients were mostly Nigerians, Africans, and Hispanic communities like Mexicans. Basically, I targeted the immigrants. They were the markets I was looking at. These people needed the services I offered. Apart from that, I gave them good service. I had a passion for helping and serving people. This made my business grow because I began to get referrals. When immigrants came to the US looking for a way to stabilise themselves and get their papers, people referred them to me based on the good services I rendered to them or their relatives. If I wasn’t doing good jobs, I wouldn’t get those referrals. These helped my company.

How did you come about being a community leader?

I’m from Edo State. Therefore, I’m the President of the Bini Club of Houston. I was born and raised as a Bini in Benin City. When I relocated to the US in 2005, I first settled in Dallas for a year, before I moved to Houston. Then, in 2006, I wanted to associate with my people and tell them what I did for a living. That was when one of my aunties introduced me to the Bini Club of Houston. I registered as a member and in the following year, I became their secretary through election. I served as the secretary for eight years to different administrations. It was a two-year tenure, so I had four tenures. Two years ago, I became the vice president. When the president was leaving this year, I ran for the office. I emerged as the first female president of the Bini Club of Houston. This is just my 11th month as the president.

I met a guy, we exchanged numbers and started talking, on our first date, just on the road to where we can have a lunch, guy was just so rude, he finds every little opportunity to insult any car or trycycle that drives anyhow or blocks his way.

He over reacts at everything, I will just laugh at some and some I will calm him down.

I overlooked the attitude that day thinking maybe he had a bad day, but on our 2nd meeting, he did same thing again.

The annoying part is that he didn't see anything wrong in doing that, he sees it as a normal thing.🤦No remorse.

Omo after that day I ex him sharperly, mek e no come reach my turn one day, e fit even turn to beating😂

I cannot come and die because I see man wey get big car😂

I pay attention to signs.
A little reaction or exasperation while driving in a traffic grid lock is quite okay.

It can be very irritating to see and hear a man or lady relentlessly "cursing out loud" while driving. Being less reactive while driving is a virtue. You have to be AWARE of how you own moods negative affect others so that they don't start a avoiding you.

It's the same way I feel about excessive display of anger or use of curse words while some are watching soccer on TV OR the excessive display of nagging by especially women (and some men).

Reacting to the incident, the president of Women Arise for Change Initiative, Dr Joe Odumakin, decried the sexual violence against women and girls around the world and urged Mrs Olupona and her daughter not to give up the fight for justice.

“The alleged police officer rapist is in prison, while prosecution is ongoing. Other complicit officers have been dealt with as well. One was sacked by the force, while the other was de-ranked from a sergeant to a corporal,” she added.

In his reaction, the Chief Executive Officer of Gnosis Help Initiative, Olumide Omosebi, advised that the focus of the case should shift to the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja to ensure that the suspect faces an “orderly room trial.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, did not take the call made to his phone and did not respond to the text message requesting his comment as of the time of filing this report.

Whoa! Once Olumide Omosebi and Joe Okei-Odumakin get involved in this kind of sexual assault case, there's NOT going to be an escape route for the irresponsible senior police officer.

Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Justin Sun Eats Banana Art He Bought For $6.2M And Reveals How It Tastes by Konquest: 10:43am On Nov 30, 2024
Newlymarried:
Crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun on Friday, Nov. 29, ate the duct-taped banana he bought for $6.2 million.

Sun, 34, ate the fruit in front of reporters in Hong Kong in what he called an “iconic” stunt, fulfilling a promise he’d made after buying it from a New York art auction, according to Agence France-Press.

As he ate the banana art, he compared conceptual art and cryptocurrency.

“It’s much better than other bananas,” he said as he took a first bite. “It’s really quite good.”

Titled "Comedian", the conceptual work created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan was sold at a Sotheby's auction in New York last week, with Sun among seven bidders

Sun said he felt "disbelief" in the first 10 seconds after he won the bid, before realising "this could become something big".

In the 10 seconds after that, he decided he would eat the banana.

"Eating it at a press conference can also become a part of the artwork's history," he said Friday, Nov. 29.

The banana art first debuted at the 2019 Art Basel show in Miami Beach. At the time, it sparked controversy and raised questions about whether it should be considered art.

And Sun on Friday compared conceptual art like "Comedian" to NFT art and decentralised blockchain technology.

"Most of its objects and ideas exist as (intellectual property) and on the internet, as opposed to something physical," he said.

The banana artwork owner is given a certificate of authenticity that the work was created by Cattelan as well as instructions about how to replace the banana when it goes bad.

Sun told AFP that his artwork may well benefit from the same kind of speculative craze usually associated with crypto.

"I think (the price) probably is going to go up even more in the future, just like Bitcoin," he said.

Meanwhile, the mega-million-dollar banana had been bought from a New York street vendor for just 35 cents, then duct-taped to a wall by artist Maurizio Cattelan as part of his “Comedian” collection.

Sun ate the banana just hours after it emerged it had been bought for less than a dollar from 74-year-old New York City street vendor Shah Alam, who works for $12 an hour at his stand outside of Sotheby’s on the Upper East Side.

“I am a poor man,” the widower told the New York Times with tears in his eyes. “I have never had this kind of money; I have never seen this kind of money.”

Sun vowed to “buy 100,000 bananas from his stand in New York’s Upper East Side,” he tweeted Thursday afternoon, Nov. 28.

“These bananas will be distributed free worldwide through his stand,” Sun said, adding that he hoped to visit Alam in person.

This young man just munched a whopping 6.2 million USD... That's good money thrown away. cheesy grin

Okay, the story ended well for Shah Alam, the 74-year-old Iranian immigrant street vendor who originally sold the banana for just 35 cents. NOW he has an offer to sell a whopping 100,000 bananas to the 34-year-old buyer of the 6.2 million USD for distribution worldwide. That's mad cool.

Correct. That's the default channel.

It seems many Nigerians have challenges with comprehension. Very sad. We should, as families and individuals encourage the upcoming generation to read more and use the internet for more constructive activities. During our time growing up when there was no internet, we spent our free time reading books and we have grown up with that culture, and that has enabled us to be able to read up to three paragraphs of an article without losing concentration and grasping its meaning
Indeed, succinctly stated Ishilove, there's a LOT of comprehension issues and short attention span online (and offline) like you said. I love reading books and have a personal home library that is well-stocked with functional books of various genres. The Internet and functional YouTube videos simply play a complementary role to reading books offline. It's ALWAYS good to pay attention to little details before reacting to issues so as NOT to end up looking stupid! Personally, I wouldn't have been OVERTLY offended like some were by that channel default setting issue.

Although I got to realize from silently going through this thread that the default channel "distortion" lasted for 3 months because they had an initial downtime, the issue has NOW been fixed. The Customer Care units of GoTV should have been the FIRST port of call, then to the NBC if anybody felt cheated by poor services and NOT spinning this into a knee-jerk accusation of "religious imposition" which it CLEARLY wasn't.

It NEVER was the intention of the private cable TV operator to impose ANY religion on anyone because these technical "snafus" can indeed happen from time to time. They also have to apologize to all their clients across "all beliefs" who may have felt dissatisfied by the distortions in the default channel settings. It wouldn't hurt them to do that because in professional public relations practice, "perception is stronger than reality."

Enjoy you weekend.

Ciao.

I may not always agree with MURIC but I'm with them on this one. I suddenly noticed that instead of the GOTV decoder tuning into channel 1 which is their default channel, it switches to channel 100 a Christian channel. They've made the Christian channel their default channel now and you can't miss it once your decoder turns on. This is completely unfair to non Christians, if I was a Christian I'd be just as annoyed. They operate in a multi religious country yet they're forcing a particular religion on the people. They're still lamenting decline in subscribers, they've not seen anything yet. I've kukuma ditched their DSTV over a year ago, now it's time to ditch their GoTV and focus on smart TV fully. Na data e go cost me

Imagine you turn on your decoder and it takes you straight to a Muslim channel instead of the default channel where they advertise their channels and programs. Won't there be a national outcry of Islamisation IMMEDIATELY? It's been over 3 months now that GOTV has set their decoder to tune into a Christian channel once you turn it on and MURIC is just reacting yet Muslims are the intolerant ones.

The prof said they are airing Christian programs on Muslim channels, which according to him, ought not to be.
Let me step into the convo here.

Right BELOW is an excerpt of what is contained in Ishaq Akintola's rant:

According to a press statement, the Faith programme, which focuses on Christian televangelism, now occupies the top channel on GOTV, a slot that was previously used for advertisements of other programmes.

I don't think it will take some westernized pressure to prevent me from using a blade to draw lines on my face though. grin tongue

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ichi_(scarification)

Ichi was facial ritual scarification worn by mainly men of the Igbo people of Nigeria. The scarification indicated that the wearer had passed through initial initiation into the highest society Nze na Ozo.,[2] thus marking the wearer as nobility. The scarification was found among men in the Awka-Nri areas and among a few women in the Awgwu and Nkanu areas. There are two styles; the Nri style worn in the Awka-Nri areas, and the Agbaja style worn in the Awgwu and Nkanu areas.[3] In the Nri style, the carved line ran from the center of the forehead down to the chin. A second line ran across the face, from the right cheek to the left. This was repeated to obtain a pattern meant to imitate the rays of the sun. In the Agbaja style, circles and semicircular patterns are added to the initial incisions to represent the moon. These scarifications were given to the representatives of the eze Nri; the mbùríchi.[4] The scarifications were Nris' way of honoring the sun that they worshipped and was a form of ritual purification.[5]

Paddy Adenuga is in the news again. This time his story of how he almost bought Chevron Netherlands has been dissected by popular Economic analyst, Feyi Fawehinmi for Quartz Africa, his article can be summed-up in this except:

“There’s much to commend in Adenuga’s tenacity and willingness to take a big bet. Certainly the Nigerian economy could do with a lot more bold and daring entrepreneurs willing to go against the grain of what is the acceptable way of doing things. The trouble is that his story is none of these at all. It is the same kind of story that has caused so many problems of late in the Nigerian economy.”

He also compared Paddy’s tactics to that of his father billionaire businessman, Mike Adenuga:

“In essence, these loans were taken out and then handed over to the taxpayer when they went bad. Around a third of these loans relate to the oil and gas ‘enclave’ as the chart from AMCON’s website shows.

“Indeed, Adenuga senior was revealed to be a debtor to AMCON, among others, by a newspaper a couple of years ago. The last time AMCON published a list of its top 100 debtors, the top three were all oil and gas companies with close to $1 billion outstanding among them. All of them taken out in the heady days of $100 oil and aggressive assumptions about how much money it was possible to make.”

The Article has not gone down well with Paddy, who tweeted:

the #qzafrica article’s attempt to tie my chevron NL acquisition with AMCON is dangerous, ill-informed, and a case of poor journalism. i’d never use Nigeria’s tax payer money for a private European deal – NEVER! i’m open to criticism – i am just not open to lies and falsehoods.

What do you think, is Feyi Fawehinmi right about Paddy’s business strategies? You can drop your comment below.
