Some Nigerian Breakfast Recipes
Akara
Akara is a popular Nigerian snack made from peeled and blended black-eyed peas that are mixed with spices and deep-fried until golden brown. It is a delicious and easy-to-prepare snack that can be enjoyed as a breakfast, brunch, or evening snack. Here's a simple recipe for preparing akara:

Ingredients:

2 cups black-eyed peas
1 small onion, chopped
1 small scotch bonnet pepper, chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground crayfish (optional)
Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

Soak the black-eyed peas in water for at least 3 hours or overnight. This will make it easier to remove the skin.

Drain the water and rinse the black-eyed peas. Place in a blender or food processor with the onion and scotch bonnet pepper. Blend until smooth, adding a little water if necessary to aid blending.

Pour the blended mixture into a bowl and mix in the salt and ground crayfish (if using).

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.

Using a spoon, scoop the mixture into the hot oil, shaping it into a small, round ball. Fry for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown on all sides.

Use a slotted spoon to remove the akara from the oil and drain on a paper towel.

Serve hot with a side of pap (cornmeal porridge) or as a snack on its own.

Enjoy your delicious and freshly prepared akara!

Ewa Agoyin
Ewa Agoyin is a delicious and popular Nigerian street food made with beans and a spicy sauce. Here's a simple recipe to make it:

Ingredients:

2 cups of brown or black-eyed beans
2 onions, chopped
3-4 Scotch bonnet peppers (or habanero peppers), chopped
1 tablespoon of crayfish (optional)
2-3 seasoning cubes
1 cup of palm oil
Salt to taste
Directions:

Rinse the beans and soak them in water overnight, or for at least 6 hours. Drain and rinse the beans before cooking.

Put the beans in a pot and add enough water to cover the beans. Add one chopped onion and one seasoning cube, and boil until the beans are tender.

While the beans are cooking, make the spicy sauce. In a blender, blend the chopped onions and Scotch bonnet peppers until smooth. You can add a little water to help the blending process.

Heat the palm oil in a separate pot until it's hot. Add the blended pepper mixture, crayfish (if using), and the remaining seasoning cubes. Stir well and cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the oil has turned red and the sauce is thick.

Once the beans are tender, drain any excess water, and mash them with a potato masher or fork until they're slightly chunky.

Add the spicy sauce to the mashed beans and stir well. Add salt to taste and cook for another 5-10 minutes.

Your Ewa Agoyin is now ready to be served! It's usually served with fried plantains, bread, or rice. Enjoy!

Moin moin
Moin moin is a Nigerian dish made from ground beans and other ingredients. Here's a recipe for preparing moin moin:

Ingredients:

2 cups of black-eyed beans
1 red bell pepper
1 onion
2 scotch bonnet peppers
2 tablespoons of crayfish
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of bouillon powder
1/4 cup of vegetable oil
1-2 cups of water
Banana leaves or aluminum foil
Instructions:

Rinse the black-eyed beans and soak them in water for about 5 hours, or overnight.

Peel the onion and cut it into chunks. Remove the seeds from the bell pepper and cut them into chunks. Remove the stems from the scotch bonnet peppers.

Drain the beans and blend them in a food processor or blender with the onion, bell pepper, scotch bonnet peppers, crayfish, salt, and bouillon powder. Add water as needed to make a smooth paste.

Heat the vegetable oil in a pot over medium heat. Add the blended bean paste and cook, stirring constantly, for about 10 minutes.

Add enough water to the pot to cover the bean mixture, and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens.

Rinse the banana leaves or aluminum foil in warm water, and cut them into rectangles.

Grease the leaves or foil with a little vegetable oil, and scoop some of the bean mixtures onto each leaf or foil.

Fold the leaves or foil over the bean mixture to make little parcels.

Place the parcels in a pot with a little water, and steam over medium heat for about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Remove the parcels from the pot and allow them to cool before serving.

Moin moin can be served as a side dish, a snack, or a main course. Bon appetit!

To make quick corned beef sauce
Place a sauce pan on the cooker, add some vegetable oil. Chop you onions, when the oil heats up add the onions, tomato puree.
If you have fresh tomotoes, wash and cut up and add to the onions and tomato puree, if you don't have skip this and add grinded pepper, salt, seasoning cube, curry and thyme and a bit of water allow to simmer for a while and added your corned beef. The last time I bought it, it was 250 so I stopped because it wasn't making any good financial sense to me. I then decided to make mine at home but ended up wasting it cos after having one large size, I was fed up. I kept the remaining five but couldn't resist the temptation of the eggs. That was how I removed and ate all the eggs leaving the dough which I later threw away because I was tired. It was very delicious and milky o but I don't know why anything I prepare myself dey quick tire me. undecided

See how much it cost me to make five Large egg rolls.

Half derica Flour -. 400
Sachet powder milk 100
One milk cup of sugar. 300. ( Didn't use all)
Powder Nut meg. 100
Veg oil. Half bottle 600
5 small sized eggs. 650
I had baking powder at home.

Making it a total of 2150 naira that I spent but could only eat one dough because I made them very large; not intentional though because the balls were small when I rolled them only for it to get to the fire and start rising beyond control shocked grin.

The thing pained me because it was too sweet but my mouth no gree accept am again. For now if I see egg rolls on the road I get full immediately. So that craving is gone for good grin.

I'm curious here... Did you take the pictures of the five large egg rolls with your camera phone? If you did, I would like you to attach it here for us to have a sense of the size.

I will no longer be complicit in a genocide. Aaron Bushnell, a 25-year-old US Air force personnel said, referring to Israel's ongoing genocide in Palestine.

Remember folks: Aaron Bushnell is white. He is American. He is a Christian. And he burned himself to protest Israel's mass murder of Palestinians.

This is not a religious war as the western media is trying to spin it. Palestinians are a combination of Arab Christians, Muslims, and Jews.

The so-called Israeli Jews are European Jews who the Europeans rejected and were made to go live in Palestine after World War II.

Instead of living like good neighbors, they hijacked the country (like all European colonists do), brought in more European Jews, and are trying to chase the Arab Christians, Muslims, and Jews out of Palestine.

A Nigerian lawyer and Human Rights activist Barr. Malcolm Omirhobo has Thursday sued the Federal Government, Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigeria Army, Ministry of Defense and Attorney General of the Federation over the continuous Arabic inscription on the naira notes and the flag of the Nigerian Army without considering Nigeria to be a secular nation.

He is seeking a Federal High Court to interpret the provisions of Section 10 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He filed two suits.

The defendants in the suits are Central Bank of Nigeria, Attorney-General of the Federation, the Nigerian Army, as well as the Ministry of Defence.

Plaintiff is seeking a court interpretation whether by a community reading of Sections 10 and 55 of the 1999 Constitution, it is lawful and constitutional for the defendants to permit the Naira notes to be adorned with Arabic inscriptions.

In the same vein, the plaintiff is asking whether by a community reading of Sections 1(1)(3), 10 and 55 of the 1999 Constitution, it is proper for the defendants to permit the Nigerian Army logo to be adorned, or inscribed in Arabic insignia.

He is seeking a court interpretation whether by the true letter and spirit of Section 10 of the 1999 Constitution, Nigeria is a secular state without any official religion.

He wants the court to declare that it is  illegal, unlawful, and unconstitutional to allow the Nigerian Army logo to be adorned, and inscribed in Arabic language, instead of the official English language or Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo which are the three main languages or ethnic groups in Nigeria.

The defendants are yet to reply. The Court also is yet to fix a date for the hearing of the case.

Bump.

This so-called human rights lawyer is being garrulous perhaps to gain attention to himself.

The Arabic script used to write on the Nigerian Army logo and even the Naira is actually called ajami or HAUSA language written in Arabic script. The Yorubas of the Oyo Empire and the Ashantis of the Ashanti Empire also had their languages written in Arabic script by the Royal Palace scholars who were already learned in speaking and writing in Arabic.

Because the literacy rate was low in the North with reference to Western education back in the day, Ajami came to be inscribed on the NA logo for ease of understanding by Hausa folks.

There's NO such thing as "biafra civil war" as indicted in the article.

The CORRECT historical term to use is the Nigerian Civil War (which lasted for 30 months or exactly 2 years and 6 months). It's just like the American Civil War or Spanish Civil War.

The Civil War took place within Nigeria therefore it is called the Nigerian Civil War.

The project is immensely important

3 Big benefits I see

1. Huge Reduction in cost of doing business:
Given that majority of businesses in Nigeria depend on diesel and PMP for survival. With this power project onboard, Aba is the next favourable destination for profitability of businesses both small scale and commercial business.

2. Boost on Real Estate Sector :
Currently I believe Real estate sector is not too active in Aba and now is the best time for investors with foresight to jump in. Because in not too distance time the Real Estate state business will spring up hence power remain consistent 2,4,7. Naturally Humans are attracted to Light. A major reason for the Japa Syndrome. A new day has come to the City of Aba and the entire south East at large.

3. A destination for Tech industry

It is a known fact that every tech business is outrightly dependent on consistent power supply. The power solution is finally domiciled in Aba City. Your guess is good as mine. The only drawback I see is : Aba City will have to be ready to look after the influx of Yahoo Yahoo boys.

That been said.

It's a New Dawn in Aba City and the entire South Eastern Region.

Bravo.

What Does a 188MW Geometric Power Plant Mean for Residents of Aba?

Here are my immediate thoughts on this very important milestone in the future of the power sector in Nigeria.

The power arrangement is an Embedded Power where power is generated close to the point of consumption, typically within an industrial or commercial facility or a specific geographic area.

In the case of Geometric Power Aba Ltd (GPAL) In the case of GPAL, it means that the power plant is located near Aba, where the electricity demand exists, rather than being part of a large centralized grid.

Power will thus be ring fenced to the 9 local government that will be impacted giving them 24/7 power.

For context of the size is 188MW, Lagos State generates around 800-1000MW monthly, even though demand is thought to be in the region of 2000MW.

Great words of wisdom, Babyosisi.

(You did get me chuckling about his lack of table manners) smiley

Anyway, in addition to what you've just written, I'd like to add that marriage has got it's troughs and peaks. There are times you get really good highs and there are times you get really low, lows. It's not something that can be avoided as life is never plain sailing. However, what does help (apart from having that great sexual chemistry), is if you have a friend in your partner when everything else is stripped off.

Someone who understands you without your having to spell everything out to him (and vice versa). Someone you can share your aspirations, dreams, fears, worries, happiness, and so on with. Also, the longer you've been married, the easier it gets, especially when you've gone past your 10th, 15th, 20th anniversary. You just sort of "grow into each other", and at that point in time, you look back at your earlier years of marriage with fondness and marvel at how inconsequential now, many things were such a big deal to you both then.

Yes, it's never going to be a bed of roses, nor a smooth frictionless path. It's quite the opposite and akin to that proverbial garden that you've just got to keep tending to, else weeds would creep in and choke the life out of it, if neglected.

Marriage can be as hellish or as beautiful as you want it to be. You've just got to have a common goal (both parteners) and work towards achieving it.

Now this, is my Valentine's message.

Happy Valentine's to everyone. cheesy

The worst thing that can happen to a woman is marry a man she doesn't love passionately.
Marriage is tough especially the early years and there will be times you will feel like packing your bags and running away
Even marriages that started very well can sour over time when they are ill managed let alone one that started with a tone of uncertainty in one's voice.
From what you have written you do love this man but not enough to spend the rest of your life with him that is why you have those doubts and misgivings.

Let me use myself as an example
I was engaged to someone else before meeting my hubby,I have shared that many times
Very very handsome and romantic man
His family adored me,my folks loved him
Very kind and generous, would give his last dime to a stranger in need
Perfect gentleman

But he is a little too boisterous in nature and had some terrible table manners
Some people may say this is minor but it bothered me a lot

The last straw was at a wedding when he motioned servers a little too loudly to get us food,I was a little embarrassed,we were in a hotel and could easily go and get food.my husband will never ever do a thing like that never!!

To make matters worse when the food came,he opened the wrap of moi moi and licked the foil and I wanted the ground to swallow me ,and that was the day my spirit left the union

I couldn't marry him,I couldn't be with a man that would embarrass me.,I just couldn't take it coupled with the fact that he wanted to get into politics and I couldn't envision myself standing on a podium campaigning.

To some these were minor things,to me they were major

You said you are not compatible sexually, can you live with that all your life?
Bad kisser,can you manage that?
If you don't feel sexually attracted to this man I wouldn't advise you to continue
It won't work

When hard marital current strikes sometimes the sexual chemistry is what will take you over the hump and if it is lacking from day one,you may be swimming against the tide.
You should be madly in love at this stage if he is the one
It doesn't sound that way from what you wrote

Food › Re: Ewa Agoyin And Agege Bread: The Fading Delicacy Of Lagosians by Konquest: 9:32pm On Feb 26, 2024
alextayo:
Ewa Agoyin is best enjoyed when it is cooked for house hold cunsumption and as part of menu in a party. Honestly speaking, i pity those who buy this beans when it is being cooked for commercial purpose. I grew up on Lagos Island and lived among the Togolese who brought this delicacy to Lagos, infact they occupied half of the compound where i lived and they are specialist in preparing this meal if they really want to. They initialy started well and that was when the beans became the darling of many Lagosians.

Unfortunately, greed sets it and the high rate of cutting corners to maximise profit makes them at times do the unthinkable against the good mind of the unsuspecting public.

How many of you are aware that at times they cook white beans and use tonic grass (a local herb that emits red colour when cooked and you can get it at the local herb market)to turn the beans colour into brown .This is the period they add more palm oil to your beans with little stew. In some instances they cook a mixture of white beans and olo 2 mashed together with the left over from the previous day.

And presently what we have on the street of Lagos is EWA KWARA being hawked by Kwara girls and claiming it to be Ewa Agoyin. Anybody can cook ewa agoyin once you can mash the beans and get the right recipe for the stew.

THOSE WHO HAVE EARS....LET THEM HEAR
Bump.
Food › Re: Ewa Agoyin And Agege Bread: The Fading Delicacy Of Lagosians by Konquest: 9:31pm On Feb 26, 2024
apacheguy:
Saying that Ewa Agoyin, a meal of mashed beans, topped with specially prepared palm-oil stew, was one popular meal in which captured virtually every Lagosian’s heart, would not be an exaggeration.

Coined from Ewa, a Yoruba word meaning beans and Agoyin, a name that was used by Nigerians to describe people from Ghana, Togo and Benin Republic, Ewa Agoyin is simply a word used to describe how people from these regions make their beans meal. It is, however, more peculiar to the Togolese and Cotonou people.

Ewa Agoyin was introduced into the Nigerians’ diet by the migrating Agoyin people, who came to Nigeria as early as far back as the sixties. It became more popular in the 80s’, until its fame and craving for it began to dissipate in the mid-nineties.

One of the special things about Ewa Agoin was the way it cut across all the social strata or economic classes in the Lagos metropolis. It is a meal, arguably loved by all, the poor, the middle class and the rich, cheap, but definitely unique; a perfect escape for the boring Nigerian method of preparing beans. According to its lovers, even people, who did not ordinarily like beans professed love for Ewa Agoyin. Some people preferred to combine with yam, others preferred garri sprinkled on it, some others chose dodo (fried plantain), ranging on personal preference.

The most popular combination was, however, with the equally famous Agege bread especially when freshly baked, soft and slightly stretchy (Ewa Agoyin was probably the reason behind the Agege bread’s fame too).

Recounting her love for Ewa Agoyin, United States of America (USA) based Adebisi Shodare said, “the first time I ate Ewa Agoyin was at a cousin’s place at Bariga. I was about six years old then and it always made me want to go to their place every holiday I had. And then, when I was old enough, I would drive all the way down from Ikoyi to Bariga just to buy Ewa Agoyin. Having relocated from Nigeria for a while now, I miss it so much.”

Preferring her Ewa Agoyin with fried plantain, Adebisi added that, “whenever I visit Nigeria, I search everywhere for it and make sure I eat a lot of it before leaving the country again.”

However, the food had, over the years, surprisingly suffered a huge decline not only in popularity but in the savouring taste it offered back then. Mrs Janet Samuel, a Nigeria-based Togolese, who sells Ewa Agoyin at Ebute-Metta, said it was more popular back then because it was usually hawked and the hawkers could easily access the nooks and crannies.

“At some point,” she added, “we began to get arrested for hawking and we had to stop. We still hawk it very early in the mornings or late in the evenings, to avoid getting arrested. It is our major source of survival here in Nigeria, so we take the risk,” she said.

Asked on the recipe for the meal, particularly the sauce, which is the basic uniqueness of Ewa Agoyin, Janet, after a little reluctance shared, “we make the stew with seedlings from red pepper only, it is usually grinded together with ginger. This is then poured into hot boiling palm oil, salt is added, you allow it to fry for a while, when its almost done, already sliced onions are poured into it to for flavour and aroma, stir the stew till well fried and that’s it,” she said.

For the preparation of the beans which is much easier, brown beans is cooked till it gets really soft and then mashed with a pestle, according to Janet. Speaking with Dede, who is from Cotonu, she said that she does not mash the whole beans together in the pot but mashes a portion that is about to be served/sold.

The sauce preparation recipe was, however, same.

Asked if it was peculiar to any part of Togo, she said it was a general meal in her country, just the way rice is eaten here.

Asiata, another Togolese who is based in Nigeria and sells Ewa Agoyin, said that the change or decline in the taste of the food was not because the original makers of the meal were no longer up to the task but that there were a lot of Nigerians who now also make it for sale and were incapable of preparing it as well as the Agoyins will, try as they might.

“A lot of people, especially Yorubas in Nigeria, have also delved into the Ewa Agoyin business and they are not getting it right. We were born into it, they are only trying to imitate but really cannot get it as perfectly as a Togolese would prepare it,” Asiata proudly said.

According to Mrs Titilola Osho, the decline in the popularity of Ewa Agoyin was because of the arrival of more varieties of food over the years, “back then, meals like rice was sort of like a special meal, taken on Sundays or during parties or special occasions,” but now, she added it had become the everyday meal of the average Nigerian on a daily basis.

She added that the popularity it used to enjoy was because it was one of the fastest meals you could get around but that the arrival of the two-minute noodles and several other fast meals also contended with Ewa Agoyin in that regards, generally weakening its hold on the diet of Lagosians.

Seun, a medical doctor’s opinion on the decline of Ewa Agoyin and Agege bread’s popularity could also be attached to the awareness given Nigerians on the dangerous chemical, bromate, put in the bread by bakers to make it puffed, which, according to research could cause blindness.

“Whenever I bought Agege bread back then, the next thing that came to my mind was getting Ewa Agoyin to back it up, but since the bromate awareness in Agege Bread, I stopped buying it, so Ewa Agoyin gradually faded from my mind. But I have to admit that I still miss that combination very much”, he said.

In a lot of ways, this is quite true and there are certainly many people out there who, having diverted from taking the Agege bread, had Ewa Agoyin gradually faded from their minds.

In Babatunde’s opinion, just like almost every other thing being produced in Nigeria which is fast losing value, so has the Ewa Agoyin delicacy, as it is no longer as popular as it used to be back then.

It is worthy of note that the deteriorating Nigerian economy may also be responsible for the gradual fading of the Ewa Agoyin and Agege bread, because, as mentioned earlier, it was a meal for the poor. The Agege bread is now bought at the rate of N40 against what used to sold back then for 20 naira. Those times you could still buy N5 Ewa Agoyin but that is no more, because the least you can get is N20 which is about the same quantity as what used to be sold for N5 or even less.

Ewa Agoyin may no longer be ubiquitous as it used to be and getting it may be more difficult now, but it is one meal that will always remain in the hearts of Lagosians. If you never had the opputunity (or luck) to eat EwaAgoyin and Agege bread, hopefully, Lagosians claim that it won’t go into full extinction and you may be lucky enough to taste it someday.

Lazy Op, come and finish what you started oo! Every Yoruba subgroup has its own delicacies, so let me see if I can help out.

Ekuru, Iyan(pounded yam)and efo elegusi belong to Ondo and Ekiti

Eba, plain Egusi soup, Gari Soaking, Fufu, Eberipo elewe and Ikokore are Ijebu's. Egbo is food I grew up thinking is Ijebu's but now I can see it's eaten a lot in Ibadan too.

Godo/Eberipo(cocoyam) and obe didin for Remo

Lafu (white amala) Ewedu All Star & Eko, Ofada and Ayamase for Egba

Amala isu, Ewedu and Gbegiri for Oyo

Sokoyoto, Ila All Star, Eko and Eba for Awori.

Asaro, Moin Moin, Adalu, Egbo, Ewa-Agoyin. Apon, Gizdodo are all Yoruba.

Kwara and Kogi have Agbado and Rice meal, Oka is another word for Agbado but I don't think that's what it's called.

And of course Yoruba put J in Wollof rice.

Then comes the street food

Agbon nuggets
Guguru & Epa
Asun
Boli
Kokoro
Langbe(boiled corn)
Dodo
Puff puff
Bunz
Shin-Shin
Akara
Igbekere
Dodo ikire
Dundu
Ojojo
Robo(spicy Egusi snack)
Agbado yiyan
Ekuru
Adun
Jogi(roasted moin-moin)
Yilata squad(Igbin,Beef, Ponmo & Eja)

There are more but I can't remember their names, like fried batter made from fresh corn and sugar.

I think Yoruba have the most street food.

Argh! I'm hungry now!

An impressive thread on Yoruba regional foods and recipes... Also, historically, the internationally famous Ayamase stew recipe (green pepper stew recipe) was originally invented by a woman (Madam Felicia Adesina, born in 1924 in Ikenne, Remo in Ogun state).

=>https://www.feastafrique.com/hall-of-fame/aya-mase-iya-oniresi

Ayamase stew and Ofada stew are very similar but the major difference between the two stews is that Ayamase is made from green pepper, while Ofada stew is made from red pepper.

The best way to most people’s heart is via good food and entertainment. This is one thing the Yoruba tribe are very good at doing. Yorubas have a number of mouthwatering and finger licking meals that will leave you demanding for more. So, when you find yourself in any part of South West Nigeria where the Yorubas are populated, Jumia Food, Nigeria’s No 1 food ordering platform shares some cuisine to try.

1. Pounded yam and egusi soup

Pounded yam is mostly eaten with egusi (melon soup). Pounded yam is made by boiling yam unsalted and pounding it when it becomes soft. Ondo and Ekiti people are known to be fond of pounded yam.

2. Ewa aganyin

Ewa aganyin is made up of cooked beans and pepper sauce. It is a delicious beans dish, well-known for its softness and tasty sauce. You can eat Ewa Aganyin with bread to savour and appreciate the meal.

3. Adalu

Adalu is a combination of beans and corn, pepper and palm oil cooked together with seasoning and spices. It is quite delicious.

4. Moin Moin

Moin Moin is a Nigerian staple food which is very rich in protein. It is a cooked bean pudding made from a combination of grounded peeled beans, pepper, and onions. It can be eaten with rice, pap and bread.

5. Eba and efo riro

Eba serves as an alternative for pounded yam. People who do not want to go through the stress of pounding yam prefer eating Eba. Eba is usually taken with Efo Riro (Vegetable soup) which makes the meal more delicious and nutritious.

6. Amala, ewedu and gbegiri soup

Amala is made from yam into flour and Ewedu is a leaf blended into watery soup. This delicacy is a local dish of the Oyo state people. Amala is better enjoyed alongside Ewedu and Gbegiri.

This guy and his style of cooking.

No sequence or procedure. Just ingredients.

See the look of the soup he made with half cooked Titus fish and the very strong Eba.

He will still shine his teeth and give himself thumbs up.

hehe yeah I need to adopt that style of making jollof if I can be bothered bro. It’s too hot to be cooking. I like to spend 5 minutes max cooking and anything that requires more than 5 minutes I no do oooo 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. When I saw her was about a year ago to be exact give or take a couple of months. Truthfully I run into all these celebrities everyday. It’s crazy. You are in supermarket running into chinda ( light skin actress ) and Uriel oputa and mofe damijo and lola omotayo etc etc .
Hello Sukkot.

Indeed, I like to work smart too and NOT hard. Lol. If you want to download that Sisi Yemmie's smokey jollof hack video online, simply type: "How I make perfect smokey party Jollof rice without firewood" and voila the 8 mins 37 secs YT vid pops up via Google, you can then make the exact smokey jollof rice without firewoods.

Yes, you meant Monalisa Chinda, RMD, and the rest. The Lekki area is where a lot of them live or hangout.

I'm a data analyst. Got a little weekly pay job from an academy in Europe. Surprisingly after 3months of work and weekly payment, My name was flagged by western union on suspicion of fraud (with my pay for February second week cancelled after many hours seating infront of the computer).

It's very appalling and morale draining to be profiled in one's own country. I really wish I could push for a law suit and make them understand not all Nigerians are criminals and seeing us/considering us as one will have consequences.

Has anyone had such terrible experience, how did you handle?
Anybody can get flagged by WU though when the transactions reach thresholds which ticks off a flag.

This is an insightful thread with great feedbacks.

The women were brought to a police station, where several religious scholars confirmed that the text on her dress was Arabic calligraphy, not verses from the Quran.

The police then asked the scholars to record a video stating their findings and that the woman was innocent.

"I didn't have any such intention, it happened by mistake. Still I apologise for all that happened, and I'll make sure it never happens again," she said, adding that she is a devout Muslim and would never commit blasphemy.

Authorities said she was in Lahore to do some shopping, and has since left the city.

Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, a former advisor to the prime minister on religious affairs said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the men in the crowd, rather than the woman, should have been the ones to apologise.

Ms Shehrbano said authorities have seen a "mushrooming of incidents" similar to that on Sunday.

https://nairametrics.com/2024/02/24/cbn-plans-to-limit-buying-and-selling-of-forex-in-cash-by-bdcs-to-500/
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is considering limiting the cash payment for buying and selling foreign currencies by Bureau De Change (BDC) operators to a maximum of $500 and ensure payments above the stipulated figure is done digitally.

The apex bank disclosed this in its proposed revised regulatory guidelines for BDC operators in Nigeria published by the bank where it proposed that electronic transfer/purchase of foreign currencies are to be made to BDCs naira account.

It stated,

“Payments to customers for cash purchases of foreign currency, the equivalent of above USD500, shall be by transfer to the customer’s Naira bank account. If the customer is non- resident (whether Nigerian or not), a BDC shall issue the customer a prepaid NGN card.

Where such a card is issued, relevant maximum credit and cumulative limits, in line with relevant Know Your Customer requirements, shall apply.”

“Payments to customers for cash purchases of foreign currency of the equivalent of USD500 and below may be made in cash.”
Permissible and non-permissible activities if BDCs

According to the bank, permissible activities by BDCs include; acquisition of forex from approved sources, sales of FX in line with its guidelines, serve as cashout points for IMTOs etc.

On the other hand, the apex bank prevented BDC from engaging in street trading, account maintenance, accepting deposits and granting of loans, facilitating international outward transfers, dealing in precious stones and metals, establishing subsidiaries and others.
